The Smallest of Dragons, The Loudest of Roars (An ASOIAF Valyrian Adventure Quest)

Calling the vote: Plan: Bonded Dragon is Awesome, but let's not get ahead of ourselves wins.

The Senate’s Justice
The Senate's Justice:

They made you watch them die.

It was a rather thankful thing, in the very end… that almost all of them… died quickly. Some were made to ingest poison… a painless death from the most loyal, and the ones that the senate did not wish to have shed their noble blood on the Senate's floor.

They took it, and were escorted away to someplace close, but away. Far enough away from the Senate… to ease the bloodied consciousness of any man that was still doubting the justice that needed to be done.

Children begged for their lives. Brave little Alyn wished to break free, to see you, to beg for you to help them.

Yet even if you found your voice to speak… what could you even say to stop them?

Your father was watching as well, his eyes dead. The defiance he had for the Senate was gone, replaced by horror… and then defeat. His begging, his postulation… he was willing to give up everything, even his family's status as a noble Senatorial house, a member of the forty families… to save them.

To save you.

But the Senate was not interested in making bargains with traitors.

To them, at least as far as you knew… they were interested in justice.

You wanted to laugh. They wanted cruelty.

Your father never told you what exactly he had done, and the Senate's vague answers to the contrary were nothing short of annoying, and not very helpful.

The only thing you knew for certain, was that your father tried to continue being dictator after his legal term…

And that he did something far more grievous than just want to pay the soldiers more for their services.

But that, even you didn't know. You were a child in his eyes, a bright one, one who wanted to spend his time among the clouds, with his dragon, or in the family accounting books, then studying the ways of politics and rumors of the Freehold…

Despite all that your brilliance… all your cunning and at very least, your ability to know that the truth was far greater and more complicated than the stories told…

You were nothing but a child here. A child being stipped of everything, in the most humiliating way possible.

The Consuls came to you, both men wearing their robes and their smiles… and their eagerness for the main event.

Your father walked out, half naked and in chains. He had beaten… you could see the scars from the whips. They wanted blood in the air.

"You have seen what madness has brought to our republic. A dictator offered supreme power and trust to our beloved homeland in crisis! Yet he has brought ruin and distress amongst us! He has used the States coffers to build an army that is not fighting the great demon of the east in Ghiscari, but to march against us! His most loyal servants and countrymen! This crime, this dereliction of duty must be dealt with by the most severe, and just punishment that we can give to this most ignoble of traitors!"

"We are not the monsters your father would have made us out to be, young one!" Gaenar Gaeliar stated as he placed a hand on your shoulder, trying to show his kindness…

And his cruelty. He had… not said a word. He did not need to. You knew that it was his idea to put your family to the sword.

"But the betrayal of our country, our great and powerful nation!… is a crime most terrible." His whisper was for you and you alone.

The Dragons came, flying above the great open-air building that was the Senate building.

"And for your betrayal… You shall be sentenced to death… by Dragon."

Your father's last sight was of you, and your last vestige… your last memory of your father before he was torn apart by dragons…

Was a smile. A smile towards you. A smile that told you one thing.

He was sorry. He was sorry that you had to live while he died.

But you were still alive.

That was enough for him.

How could a man who lost everything, except his son… be happy to die?

It was a smile that broke you.

You cried at the man you loved died... as he did not scream while the dragons tore him to pieces. No, he stayed silent the entire time.

The Senate got it justice.

And you… had nothing.

Just as inteneded.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You had… many conflicting feelings about your father's death and that of your family. But one feeling was above them all:

[]Mourning: Your father was dead… Your Family was dead… how could you feel anything else, but great sadness.

[]Anger: You were furious… angry at the world that had so cruelly destroyed everything you held dear! You wanted to watch the world burn… For only then, would you feel the warmth of your family again.

[]Confusion: You wanted to know why your father died. And your family had to die as well? What did the Senate fear from you… that made them do such drastic action?

[]Hopelessness: You wished to die and join them... You wanted to no longer feel the pain anymore... For it to finally end.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

But before you left home… You needed to make a choice…

What camp would you place yourself into?:

[]The Conservatives: Your Father's foremost enemies in the Senate, not for any personal reasons, but out of pure dedication to the Constitution of the Freehold. They do not believe your father to have warranted an execution… merely an exile. They were horrified by the true nature of the executions and murders that had taken place, and wished to see the perpetrators punished, as that execution violated every single law in Valyrian history… But they fell on deaf ears. They are the second smallest faction right now… if only because many of them are disgusted by one of their own… betraying everything they held dear for power.

[]Moderates: Allies and enemies of your father alike flocked to the moderates before his death… There were many that wished to uphold the status quo… Their protests to a lighter sentence fell on deaf ears. They lost the most power after the death of your father.

[]Populists: The ficklest of the factions… they followed the will of the people… And the people's will was easily influenced by the great orators of their great party. They are the most ambitious… and also the most likely to break up if trouble were to find them. They are strong because of the people… but the lot are cowards without them. Unless they had a leader.

[]Mercantile: The Men of Coin, who are interested in other things… colonies in the west, the south, even towards the Narrow Sea, where the Pirate Valyreon's have taken up a shelter at Driftmark. They want Valyria not only to rule the world… But to control everything in it, by coin and power. They are the second most powerful faction… Thankfully, they do not want war… War is bad for business after all.

[]The Dragon Faction: The madmen who clamored for death. They wanted war… your father got in the way of that with ludicrous wages for the Legions. But their plan was simple. To remove the Ghiscari from the world, forever. They are the strongest… and would be, as long as the consuls controlled the Senate, and got their war.

[]Alone: You did not align yourself with anyone. Let them play politics and alliances. One man was not worth the vote. Abstaining was a legitimate form of representation. No one would control your voice in the destiny of the Freehold… It did not deserve it.

You needed to go home… An empty home. that was without a family to come back to.

You have 4 Actions… (Note: You will not get a training action this turn… that is for later, next turn. This is more of a story turn, before the Training montage).

[]Taking Account: Your father and family had a long list of coin, and assets meant only one thing. You needed to secure them before they were seized by opportunists and opportunistic enemies.

[]Bury Your Family: Your family's corpses deserved a proper burial. You are going to make sure that they will rest in peace.

[]Ride your Dragon: You want to fly away for awhile… Spend time with the only thing that cares about you.

[]Senatorial Allies: A pair of Senators who worked with your father has come to you… to pay their respects… and to tell you a few things they knew about what really happened.

[]A Regent in Control: Your father's senate seat has a regent… a man who was appointed by the Consul to rule until you were of age… You will not allow yourself to become a puppet to the man who murdered your father.

[]Join the Legion: You want to leave this place. To… go somewhere else. Home is not a place you want to be right now. And a Dragon Rider in the Legion is always welcome with open arms.

[]My Best Friend: Rhaerya came riding in on her horse… she wanted to see you… to make sure you were okay. After all, that's what friends were for.

[]Dragon Eggs: You need to see the Dragon eggs… to find out if any were ready to hatch.

[]Choose a Hobby: You wish to have a hobby, something to take the edge off of all the stress. (Write in below of what that hobby is)

[]Visiting Home: Your Home is empty… but the memories there are enough to make you… reminisce about better times.

AN: Enjoy, and please Vote in Plan Format.

There is a voting moratorium for 12 hours for planning and discussion.

Edit: Now let me sleep.

The Merchant faction is a safe enough bet right now since it wont bring us into conflict most likely with any of the other factions. Sure the Warhawks might not like them but us not being in open opposition to them just trade being disturbed will hopefully let us slink by their notice for long enough and show people that all we want to do is make some money and that we dont have our sights set on higher office. I would go with the Conservatives but that would right now just let everyone know we are trying to curry favor with our old allies and are trying to build back up to a pace of power again. Lets get our house back in order right now and just try and lay low for now.

Plus with Legendary Stewardship we should get that bonus into action as soon as possible in making us contacts and coin.

In my opinion, either anger or hopelessness might be the best option when it comes to emotions when it comes to our dead father. When it comes to our political position I would recommend us to stay on the sidelines or otherwise known as alone. My goal in this quest is to do three things.

One, obtain retribution for our family in any way possible, no matter the consequences. If the world wants to end us, then we should destroy it first.
Two, find out where our father went wrong, and rebuild from hist mistakes and succeed where he failed.
Three, place our family in the sun, and world conquest.

Problem as i see it with Anger is that we dont want to be getting any attention drawn to us at the moment since our position is so tenuous amongst Valryian society. Even one miss slip of someone over hearing us say we want revenge for our family could have us labeled as the second coming of our father and people shunning or avoiding us due to that. Mourning is the expected and safe route to go since no one can think wrong of us for mourning our dead family and will go a long way to assuage peoples fears that we are not going to try and go on a crusade against all who wronged us. Image right now is our most important asset and we need to make sure we show to all and sundry we just want to rebuild our house in peace or else we will be watched like a hawk by everyone, allies and enemies.

We need to take advantage of our stewardship. In addition dragons are one huge source of power we should take advantage of. It seems pretty clear to me that we need to react quickly to essentially "stop the bleeding" for our house. Doing non productive things can wait until we aren't hemorrhaging coin, power or influence.

So, reasoning:
I think we should neither align ourselves with anyone just yet nor make too many political moves. It would only draw Attention when it's REALLY not wanted right now. First, we should try to get our Head in order as much as we can before we do Stuff like that.
Taking Account must be done ASAP, but apart from that, let's take it slow this first Turn and maybe find some Comfort with the last beings who truly care about us.

Canon Omake: The Path of Vengeance
The Path of Vengeance

He stood in Front of the sacrificial Altar, the fire bowl with the burning flame sitting atop of it. His Father stood behind him while his Mother and his younger Brothers watched from the sidelines.

"You know what must be done, Boy", his father said with his deep, rumbling Voice. He pulled out a dagger and put it into his hand. "You know the Words."

His Mother spoke up, worry on her face. "Hamil'kar...I'm not sure about this. He is still young and a Blood-Oath-"

His father cut her off with a cold look in his eyes. "He is old enough, Woman. Old enough to know the Truth...and old enough to make this commitment. He understands well enough why he must do this. Don't you, Hazdru'bl?"

He nodded. His father had told him the Stories often enough, had shown him the remains of the Battlefields and the burned Corpses of their dead. Determination settled in his eyes. He knew exactly what had to be done.

"Then go, my Boy. Go...and swear your Oath in front of the Gods!"

He walked up the steps to the Altar and held his right hand over the burning flame before gripping the Knife with his left. Steeling his resolve, he cut his right palm and let droplets of blood spill into the fire. And with burning conviction in his Heart, he spoke: "I swear..."

***

Hazdru'bl woke up from his sleep. With a groan, he sat up in his bed and looked around his Room before looking back over his shoulder at the sleeping form of his wife. With a gentle smile, he put the blanket over her, careful not to wake her up.

The General quickly clothed himself and walked onto the Balcony, breathing in the fresh air. Below him, the mighty City of Ghis stretched out in all Direction, from the Mountains on the Islands Inland out to the mighty Docks in the Sea. It was a sight of glorious Splendor. He could hear the eager bustling of the Markets, the chattering of the People in the Streets and the screams of the Seagulls in the Distance. Once every few Minutes, he saw the silhouettes of one of their mighty Harpies circling high in the sky, their screams forming the last Notes in the Symphony that made up the Capital of their great Empire.

Although...it was not nearly as great as it once had been.

Compared to just thirty Years ago, the City seemed to have shrunken, if not in size then in Spirit and Power. There were less Harpies flying in the Sky, less Ships docking in the harbour and less Merchants selling Goods and Slaves in the Markets.

To see the City that he had loved in his Childhood now so diminished filled his heart with sorrow and anger alike. And he knew exactly who was to blame for all of this this.

His eyes narrowed as he looked across the Sea. Far beyond the Horizon, in the Lands of Endless Summer, lay that upstart Nation that had dared to challenge the Descendants of Grazdan the Great, dared to Assault the mighty Empire of Ghis four Times...and worst of all had DARED to win each of these Wars.

The Freehold of Valyria.

He scowled as he remembered his Studies of the old Text, remembered how the Rulers of Ghis had dismissed the Valyrians as unimportant Sheep-herders, only good as Pleasure-Slaves for their unnatural Beauty. How fully subjugating them had been considered 'not worth the Trouble' due to the Dragons roaming in their Lands.

How foolish these Men had been. They had underestimated the Valyrians...and payed a deadly Price when this People of Sheperds had shifted their Focus from taming Sheep to taming Dragons and had burned the Legions of Ghis to Ashes in the first War between the two Nations.

They had tried to gain their Vengeance for this Humiliation three times after...but the bravery and skill of their Legions, the power of their Harpies and the splendor of their Coins had melted under the merciless Fire of the Dragons. Not to mention that the political infighting back home didn't help matters.

He scowled as he remembered how shamefully his Father had been treated. He had been the only General making any significant Gains against the Valyrians in the last War. His Army had won more Battles and slain more Dragons then any other before in the History of Ghis! And yet, their Rulers had refused to properly support him, being too busy scrambling to keep their own gains.

In the end, his father had suffered a humiliating defeat, partially due to the lacking Support at Home, partially due to the thrice-cursed Valyrians. Ghis had been forced to sue for Peace. Riding high on their Victory, the Freehold had imposed heavy Sanctions and Reperations on the Empire, from which it had still not fully recovered even after thirty years.

It hadn't been enough to just defeat them. No, the arrogant Valyrians wanted to see the proud and mighty Sons of the Harpy on their knees, begging for Mercy before they delivered the final blow!

But his Father had sworn that he would never let that happen. Using all of his remaining Prestige and political Influence, he had ensured the Rise of their Family to greater Power. He had sworn them all in on his Vision to restore Ghis to his former Glory. From his Mother, Uncles and Aunts to his Brothers, Sisters and their Children, they all would do their best to make sure this Vision came to pass. Though his Father was dead by now, slain by Assassins sent by political Rivals, his Dream lived on. And to him, his oldest Son, he had given the most difficult but also most important Duty.

He had risen up the Ranks in the Army, quickly securing himself Leadership-Positions due to his sheer Talent and Genius. He had put down many dangerous Slave Revolts and Uprisings. Despite his relatively young Age, he was now a seasoned General and Veteran. He had scattered Armies while leading his Troops and commanding his Harpies and had outmaneuvered his Foes time and time again, reducing their Cities to rubble. He had become one of the highest-ranking Generals in the entire Empire.

All in Preparation for the greatest Challenge of them all.

Hazdru'bl looked down at the long faded scar on his right Palm. He would fulfill the Blood-Oath he had sworn under the Eyes of the Gods and his Father. He would succeed where even the great Hamil'kar had failed. The Reports from their Diplomats and Spies made it clear: The Valyrians were out for blood and another conflict was on the Horizon. More then that, they believed that they would have an easy Victory, having grown arrogant and overconfident from their Successes. They believed that one last push was all that was needed to bring the proud Sons of the Harpy down forever.

He clenched his fist. They were wrong. Oh so VERY wrong. Ghis had lost four Wars against the upstart Dragons...but this one, the Fifth and Final, they would win. He would lead his Armies into Valyria, raze the Freehold to the Ground, exterminate the Dragons and finally put the Valyrians, Men, Women and Children, into the Place where they belonged: As lowly Slaves to the mighty Empire of Ghis!

Hazdru'bl looked once again across the Sea into the Direction of Valyria, determination and hatred shimmering in his eyes. And like so many Times before, he repeated the Oath he swore to the Gods and his Father on that fateful day.

"I swear that, as long as I live...I will always be an Enemy of Valyria!"

A.N.: Hope ya'll enjoyed this look into Ghiscari!Hannibals mind.

Plan: To Entrench the Dragon's Claws
Dragon Eggs: You need to see the Dragon eggs… to find out if any were ready to hatch.
Hello there,
For the most part I really like your plan, but I kinda think think that burying our family is imporant. Dad may have made a mistake, but the innocent members of our family deserve a burial and I think it would be good for both our mental health and our reputation.
As I think that the Dragon Eggs is the least pressing of our potential goals, would you be willing to swap out that with [X] Bury Your Family?

Going alone in faction based politics rarely seems to go well. My reasoning for going for the Conservatives is that they're most likely to support an initiative that what happened to our family doesn't happen again...or allow our enemies try to finish their work with us. At least openly.

It could also allow us to start digging away at one of the Consul's power base. We potentially already have an 'in' with one of the Two Allies. The Mercantile Faction would seem a better fit for us but they're likely full of good stewards already while the Conservatives probably disdain being seen money-grubbing so we could fill the factional niche of 'Money-guy' a lot better.

The Regent is probably the most pressing danger to any plans of getting justice. What's to stop them from voting in favor of protections for the Consul who asssigned them? Or a law that takes property from 'traitors'? Need to get rid of them ASAP. Everything else can be in service of that in a way. Having support from the two allies and a faction will keep us from coming off as a whiny kid trying to budge in on the adults.

I mean, we only don't align ourselves right NOW if we chose alone. We can always join a Faction later.

Hmm, well I suppose I am okay with this, after giving it some thought. I doubt the eggs would be ready on turn 1.

One way or another we'll have to join a Faction eventually - If we want to stay out of the spot light anyways.

Isn't it best to join one now when sympathy is at it's highest? Gives us more time to settle in and get a lay of the land, while also taking advantage of public and factions opinions.

Whomever we choose we could probably switch later too.

Though the sound of joining up with a faction early on does sound promising, I still think we should stay out of notice, for a while anyway. I'd rather not make it look like we were trying to regain power at least for now when everyone is still a bit suspicious of us.

And switching factions does sound nice if we were to choose one we either disliked or had no need for anymore, but I feel like it would garner at least some ire from our previous allies.

I mean, we only don't align ourselves right NOW if we chose alone. We can always join a Faction later.
We're at our most vulnerable now though. We have no family and if we go factionless we'll be mostly without allies until we join one. We don't know when we'll get another chance to. Our Regent could keep us ignorant of the goings on in the Senate until we get rid of them. Having eyes inside could at least give us a case against them or keep them slightly honest if we can't get rid of them. As well as teaching us what we might need to know politics wise so we don't put our foot in our mouth.

Plus having built-in support could lower the DC's for some actions. Friends in other places or Friends of Friends, so to speak.

It's a hard one. I definitely get where your coming from. It's just for me I'm not sure that letting the spot light fade and then choosing a faction later - when we are older, less green and had time to think - is any less suspicious.

Personally think either could work, it'll depend on how well we can sell it. Atm any choices could be considered an impulsive choice of a grieving boy.

We might be at our most vulnerable, but public perception and ironically the current spotlight can make any 'mistakes' more excusable. Right now overt plots should be at an all time low. Hopefully...

I still think we should not join a Faction right away and, aside from the Matter of Taking Account (which we really should be getting done right away), should use the first Turn to try and cope as much as we can right now, instead of drowning ourselves in stressful Work. Let's spend some time with our Dragon, bury our Family and talk to our Friend.

Joining or not joining a faction will have their own set of unique problems.

THat is all I will say on the matter.

He walked up the steps to the Altar and held his right hand over the burning flame before gripping the Knife with his left. Steeling his resolve, he cut his right palm and let droplets of blood spill into the fire. And with burning conviction in his Heart, he spoke: "I swear..."

He had scattered Armies while leading his Troops on top of his Harpy and had outmaneuvered his Foes time and time again, reducing their Cities to rubble. And he had become one of the highest-ranking Generals in the entire Empire.

The Reports from their Diplomats and Spies made it clear: The Valyrians where out for blood and another conflict was on the Horizon.

This is canon.

Another Ten to the rolls.

Nice.

Also, Question: What does the Government of the Empire of Ghis look like? Are they a Merchant-Oligarchy like historical Carthage or are they an actual Monarchy?
To put it bluntly... A Monoarchy

Byzantine Empire level of Centralization (Well, kinda), with a semi elected monarchy, based on military strength and ability, with the Magister Militumn, almost always being the man who becomes emperor if the Emperor has been bad, and or, his heirs are incompetent.

[X] Plan: Mourning and Comfort

-[X]Mourning: Your father was dead… Your Family was dead… how could you feel anything else, but great sadness.
-[X]Alone: You did not align yourself with anyone. Let them play politics and alliances. One man was not worth the vote. Abstaining was a legitimate form of representation. No one would control your voice in the destiny of the Freehold… It did not deserve it.
-[X]Taking Account: Your father and family had a long list of coin, and assets meant only one thing. You needed to secure them before they were seized by opportunists and opportunistic enemies.
-[X]Bury Your Family: Your family's corpses deserved a proper burial. You are going to make sure that they will rest in peace.
-[X]Ride your Dragon: You want to fly away for awhile… Spend time with the only thing that cares about you.
-[X]My Best Friend: Rhaerya came riding in on her horse… she wanted to see you… to make sure you were okay. After all, that's what friends were for.

So, my Reasoning:
I think we should neither align ourselves with anyone just yet nor make too many political moves. It would only draw Attention when it's REALLY not wanted right now. First, we should try to get our Head in order as much as we can before we do Stuff like that. As I said in my Plan-Vote: Let's not get ahead of ourselves.
Taking Account must be done ASAP, but apart from that, let's take it slow this first Turn and maybe find some Comfort with the last beings left in this World who truly care about us.
