The Power(Harry Potter/The Gamer)

You are correct that its proper name is petrificus totalus and we really should call it that instead of "the petrifying curse".
Enjou can you please edit your plan?
Actually the incantation is petrificus totalus, the name is something else. The same way that the hovering charm's incantation is wingardium leviosa, but it's still called 'the hovering charm'. In this case, it's the body bind curse, not petrifying curse, which is where the issue is.
I could, but I won't. It's listed in the Abilities as the petrifying curse, and the GM will know what it refers to because he's not dumb.
I'm actually hoping the GM is willing to change it on the abilities page too, but since I have a negative diplomacy score and you seem to be well-respected, would you be willing to lobby for the name change?

Umm.

I just had a random thought, and went back to confirm it.

Should we not know who Pettigrew is? I mean in-character?

We bought a shitload of "Harry Potter fanbooks" in the chapter: "Books, books, bo-Ice cream!"

Given that Pettigrew is officially a great martyr who was struck down by the evil Sirius Black, he has to have been mentioned atleast once.

And he'd probably have pictures in them to boot.

Pictures of lots of heroes in books.

You have a vague idea of who Pettigrew is from the books, but you know your knowledge is heavily tainted by fiction. About the only common points are that Pettigrew is a hero, and was killed by the one unnamed who betrayed the Potters.

As for pictures... They're pictures for kids books. They aren't really that accurate. You can kinda see the resemblance, but it's not ideal at all.

Eh, Quirrell/Voldemort is going to die this year, one way or the other. We could lift the curse and convince Dumbledore to hire Moody.

Dumbledore would be perfectly willing to hire Moody. Convincing Moody to actually accept is a far more difficult proposition.

I could, but I won't. It's listed in the Abilities as the petrifying curse, and the GM will know what it refers to because he's not dumb.

You are making assumptions about my intelligence that I'm not sure I'm comfortable with.

I really can't wait till we tell Hermione about the Gamer. She will min/max the bullshit out of everything. She basically won the war in canon. Harry and co would of died long before without her.

I fear for the library and the consumption of books. I wonder if we can turn off book devour in options like another quest I saw had done. Still gain the skills, book doesn't get nommed.

I can write up a trait for that. Need to think on how much it would cost.

It... It doesn't really matter. If it's felt that strongly about I can change it. But it really doesn't matter. You still say petrificus totalus to cast it no matter what it's listed as.

Yeah. I'll do so, then write up the update after I get done with this quest in DDO that I'm helping a guildie with.

Mind if I ask a question? Do you think we'd have a shot at getting him to teach if we told him that we could completely remove the curse that's on the position? After all, I was thinking that, without that curse putting him in danger were he to take the job, he could use that position as an excuse to keep an eye on us even while we're at Hogwarts.

Perks/Traits Ideas...

1. Drops from worlds we've gained skills from. For example, +1-5 weapons, staffs, wands, potions, etc from D&D.
2. Pause button (cannot effect real world while in use, but does allow breathing space, and time to think.
3. Future books (ones from after '97)
4. Poison immunity (to go with the disease immunity)
5. Familiar perks (rendering Hedwig and future familiars immortal (as long as Harry's alive), access to the D&D familiar list, giving familiars thematic powers, such as Hedwig learning Dark, Flying, Normal, or Ice type Pokemon attacks. Would probably be multiple different perks.
6. Upgrades for wands
7. Multiple animagus forms (buy and then get the magical animagus perk to have both the normal and magical versions, or multiple magical, or multiple normal, or mix)
8. Non-English books. Allows access to anime, manga, manwha, or other alternate languages, as long as they are from the allowed time period.
9. At will magic. Allows one spell you already know to be made 'at will' and no longer uses MP to cast. (probably best used for something like flying.) Subject to GM approval.
10. Extra 10 MP or HP per level (or increase how much Int/Vit boost your MP/HP)
11. Elementalist. Grants bonus when casting spells attuned to the appropriate element
12. Anti-Elementalist. Negative Trait. Weakens spells of the appropriate elemental type.
13. Teacher. Bonus to Skill XP when being taught one of these teacher's strengths. Example, Moody bonus to any defensive or combat magics, Dumbledore, bonus to Transfiguration.
14. Patron. Powerful spirit has taken an interest. gains certain bonuses, but must perform quests for such beings.
15. Loony. Become eccentric. Think Luna at her most bizarre. Negative trait Tends to lower relationships, and weaken relationship growths
16. Body odor. Lowers relationship growth with people. Negative Trait
17. Uncanny. Strange things happen around you. Negative Trait. Nothing harmful, but electronics tend to go on the fritz, machines tend to break down, milk curdles, shadows move in ways they shouldn't, etc. Tends to spook people.
18. Blueprints. Can learn how to craft magical items from D&D.

1) That's already inherent. As you level ID create you'll be able to make D&D monsters which will drop D&D loot, though money will still be converted to Pounds Sterling.
2) Maybe
3) Doesn't work as a trait, unless it's one you buy and it just dumps a book from the future in your lap
4) Not purchasable, but there will be something you all can do to get poison immunity.
5) Might do a single trait for Familiar Perks, then have it give perk points to familiars based on their level. I need to go through and put in Hedwig's level for reference.
6) No. You can already get wands as drops from Potterverse creature based IDs.
7) Would be an expensive perk, but don't see why not. Sure it's not possible re: the books. But then, neither is a magical animagus form if I recall.
8) They're already allowed, it's just a case of finding them and being able to read them.
9) Maybe.
10) I'll have to figure out the cost but that seems like a good one to put in as a cheaper perk.
11&12) Maybe.
13) Already an effect of learning from someone, just an unlisted one. Your Defensive Magic is at 66 out of 100. In four weeks. As a Harry Potter who has no clue how to really grind efficiently. That's because you were learning from Moody, getting a boost from your wand, and a boost from having a dueling room.
14) Maybe. I'd have to think on that one and the source that such patrons would come from.
15) Eh... Writing someone like that isn't one of my strongest abilities.
16) Might put that one in as the 'Snape Package'. Greasy hair, faint odor from potions ingredients, etc...
17) As written wouldn't be a huge point gain, but could be interesting.
18) You'll be gaining the ability to enchant/craft items at a later date. You just need various base skills at an appropriate level first. Namely runes and charms.

I saw the topic of pause and thought I'd way in because it has some philosophical ramifications. While on the one hand we're using DnD mechanics and they do allow for round to go on as long as you don't take an action. But the gamer isn't based on DnD, it's based on computer RPGs that are generally single player or MMO, and in an MMO when you pause the world doesn't pause with you because you're not the only player. Allowing for a pause feature that freezes the world feels lIke saying our friends are less real than us.

Also we already have plenty of time to think about things. No vote is ever going to include "pause and consider the situation."

Not if you couch it in terms as a spell to freeze time, or allow yourself to step outside of the normal flow of time, but rendering yourself unable to effect anything else.

Heck, there's already a spell in AD&D to do it, though it's a very high level (9th)

We need D&D Dragonhide Armor at some point. 2E rules make it OP, Spell Resistance on the Armor plus half the Dragon's Natural Armor bonus rounded down.

Meh, freezing time isn't possible from our end... the quantum temporal foam just doesn't work that way... ever. You could compress/speed up time for an object or person an ungodly amount, but for every third ratio the energy costs skyrocket such that by the time you get to 21:1 (that's three third ratios) you're approaching infinity to the point of needing a ZPM to power the spell... something about localizing temporal eddies within a given field to operate at an accelerated pace compared to the eddies outside of said field creates a sort time/space pressure imbalance... or as The Doctor would say "timey-whimy, wibbly-wobbly... stuff"

Yes it is, through a 9th level spell called Time Stop, which we can get by doing Mage Quests from the D&D stuff.

Honestly I rewrote that like three times because it was too ranty or preachy, but I think that the most important point, to me, is to make it clear that we're The Gamer in HPverse, not Harry Potter set as the protagonist in a videogame verse, and a pause feature (not a spell) blurs that line a bit.

9th level spell called Time Stop

This I like, It's a 9th level spell and probably translates into a major mana cost, more importantly its a spell, rather than some feature of the gamer.

:eyebrow: Unless it specifically stops all of time, and lets us move around and do as we please... then "time stop" is the reverse function of localized acceleration, into localized deceleration, thus making something move slower... ironically this actually has a linear power growth, and is much, much more stable science to do.

It stops all time except for you. Also it's magic, I don't have to explain it.

What part of it's magic not science did you folks miss? *rubs bridge of nose*
