The Perfectly Normal High School: A Slice of Life Quest! (Defunct)

However, to ensure it gets picked (and I think this is a major uniting factor behind the push for Shinohara as a writer) you need a plan to deal with Mikado... likely through social interactions. And your Big Sis choice hits us for a -20 ST modifier for a week. Isn't that a bit too much of an impediment? The completion of our Friendship quest and the subsequent evolution of the Loner trait - which is presently our biggest detractor for conversations - isn't due until Week 7.

Personally, I'm voting for Hana because I think makes sense for Silas to want to support his friend, but I'm actually fine with whoever ends up as writer. I think Hana and Rakuyama would both have interesting takes on the Strange Friends idea. Hana would probably focus more on the "trapped in a nightmare" aspect, while Rakuyama would probably give it more of a Wizard of Oz feel.

Your concern about the Big Sis penalty brings up another reason I'm not voting for using the favor; I'd much rather use to boost a social action.

Wait, one point? I saw it at 44 a few hours ago! Unless I mixed something up. @LuciDreamer, did you change it in any way?

Someone is screwing with our head, and Big Sis is involved, but the reasons for it may vary. So far she has been very supportive and protective of us, so maybe it's a part of it? We need to talk to her more.

I'm rereading the thread and came across this. Has anyone been paying attention to the 7? number? When did it go back down to 44? We should figure out what moves it so that we have an idea on what it signifies.

I had been, but forgot to keep track of it. Right before "Fear Herself" it was 35. That was three events ago, so I doubt it rose and then fell, especially considering one event had no stat changes.

AFTER "Fear Herself" it was 44. I apparently actually payed attention then too.

Alright, let's see if I can make sense of the tally... It doesn't pick TheMaskedReader's vote, because PLN STRANGE FRIENDS is not actually a plan vote it can recognize... and it only refers to the writing part of the vote, anyway. If you wanted other parts of Karnewarrior's plan, your best bet would be to vote "[x] Karnewarrior" instead.

So, if I interpreted that correctly, we get...

Our theme ideas
[X] [Theme] Write-in: Strange Friends. A young girl becomes lost in a world of dreams, full of strange and alien creatures. One group of creatures call themselves the "Dream-Eaters", and normally feed on human nightmares. Strangely though, one Dream-Eater starts to form a friendship with the girl, and together they begin to hatch a plan that will allow them to escape from the strange landscape she's trapped in. Along the way, they learn about what it means to be friends.
Number of voters: 7
Nevill, Noumero, Sentient Tree, the meep, Amperstand, Karnewarrior, TheMaskedReader
[X] [Theme] (Personality: Otako) Idol Magical Girl Reconstruction. Going against the recent trend of deconstructing popular anime tropes, while at the same time recognizing the faults that the deconstructions parodied and coming to terms with them. A magical girl who is also high-school student who is also an idol for a pop group team rises to fight off some sort of world-eating eldritch monstrosity using magic powers based off of various musical instruments, juggling both her responsibilities as a magical girl and her responsibilities to her friends and her social life. It'll be nice and fluffy! (Silas does not know who will like this idea.)
Number of voters: 2
veekie, wingstrike96
[X] [Theme] Write-in: Mundane Monster High School Romantic Dramedy. An ordinary high school boy transfers into a brand new school, where he finds that all of the other students aren't human. Frightened at first, he soon finds that even if they're monsters, they're just as human as he is.
Number of voters: 1
Spectrum
[X] [Theme] Write-in: (Personality: Otaku + Traits: Loner, Sensitive) Loneliness and Friendship. Very similar to the two Dramedy options, further elements (school, supernatural elements, romance, etc.) negotiable. Featuring a cast of characters with various personal issues that isolate them and/or make them unhappy, and how by getting to know, accepting, and helping each other and becoming friends, they can overcome them and gain happiness. Gets fairly dark at times, but ultimately has a happy ending.
Number of voters: 1

[X] [Theme] (Personality: Otako + Trait: Sensitive) High School Romantic Dramedy. Same as above, but in a high school! This combination will almost universally appeal to Silas's fellow classmates, because teenage heartache, crushes, friend-zoning, and relationships are something almost everyone has had a brush with. Then again, high school romance is the kind of ubiquitous topic that has been used again and again in popular media… could they really make something interesting enough to stand out? (Silas thinks everyone would like the idea, though whether or not they find it impressive is a different story.)

Do we let Silas know about new findings?
[X] [BS] No. Silas deserves some measure of separation from Big Sister's skullduggery. He's just a schoolboy, after all. And Big Sister would be good to remember the old adage about Ignorance...

[X] [BS2] Don't overclock. As much as it pains her, Big Sister may need to start withdrawing considerable oversight over Silas if she wants to maintain her obligations to him. ...can anyone remind me why would Silas consider sabotaging the Student Council at this point in time? I don't think they had worked at cross-purposes after the Apollion movie, and the only conflict of interests they may have so far stems from Big Sis digging around their secret archives. And that is driven more by paranoia than actual necessity, too.

I get Yumika's beef with them, but I don't think Silas was affected by their actions all that much.

Maybe if Yumika tells him to? I thought she already got her revenge with what happened to Ichiro though.
Also, it might somehow give us more tools to help with saving Nanami, but I don't know how.

Oops, hehe. Too feegle to be read, I suppose.

Also if we do end up at war with the Student Council the Nac Mac Feegle would be amazing to unleash on the Foundation. Just... That crossover.

Would you care to explain that reference? Who'd be Nac Mac Feegle in our case?
They're from the Tiffany Aching series of Young Adult novels, which are bloody amazing and probably my favorite bits from Discworld, although some people may want to murder me for saying so.

The Nac Mac Feegle are basically fist-sized Highlanders who are persistently running at 2.5 BAC, each stronger than a man of full size, and strongly dislike anyone who tries to tell them "Don't steal sheep, those belong to other people!" with the exception of Tiffany herself because the girl is a verified badass in their eyes. They're basically impossible to contain, and the harder you try the more likely you are for everything you've built to have been burned down, robbed, and probably littered with passed out Nac Mac Feegle if you keep any alcohol nearby. One of the major Feegles in the books is a bloke by the name of "Rob Anybody", who's one of the smartest Feegle and their leader, and is literate enough to make an attempt to spell "PLAN", although IIRC everybody agrees to drop the A as an unnecessary addition which adds nothing to the word.

Aaaaaaaa I'm so bad at time management :<

Right, so I finally updated the character sheet. The images seem to be... just sort of gone. Which is kind of sad, buuut...

I'm thinking of getting a drawing tablet over the summer, so maybe I'll just sketch my characters myself. After all, it'll lend a little bit of authenticity to the people I am writing! Using derivative pictures always makes me a bit leery, anyway, because no image online perfectly meets how I envision my own characters in my head. Plus, more drawing practice is good for me, besides.

Oh yeah, and uh, @Karnewarrior ?

I'm so, so sorry, but you inspired me to make this horrible monstrosity...

Bonus points if you can read hiragana. :p

Um... the pictures are all there? I mean...
That one is easy to fix, though. It's not like the pics have expired... it's that postimg.org had an accident, but the pics are all still there. You just need to replace all instances of postimg.org in the code with postimg.cc, and they will all be back.

Though of course, original pictures for original characters would be so much cooler, but that's a lot of characters, and a lot of work.

About hiragana... does it say 'ほん', i.e. 'hon'?
What does Chii-kun say in the parentheses?

I think it's "Now this'll be stuck in my head all week."

And yeah, while personalized portraits are great, that'll be a lot of work for you, @LuciDreamer . Maybe just make it an ongoing thing when you've got writers block? Particularly for the character in question.

Or just do chibi scribbles like the SpYumika; Those look like they're easier, but still get across most of the character's appearance.

I love it when ??? jumps up 30 points. (and becomes green)

I completely forgot about the factbook. The news section is hilarious!
The world cries out for potatoes fully in accordance to the poll above.
  • Silas saw a cat the other day. It was cute, so he gave it one of Big Sister's crackers.
  • (New!) Several cats have joined Silas's morning feeding. They seem to be organizing themselves based on age to see who gets to eat first.
This is going to become a thing, isn't it? Watch as three weeks from now they will set up an embassy of their cat world in our attic.

But will we get a catgirl social link at the end of that quest chain!?
I love it when ??? jumps up 30 points. (and becomes green)
At that point I think he's just messing with us.

Alternatively, we can set up a cat cafe if there are enough of them.

Are you messing with us? You have to tell us if you are messing with us/are a cop.

I will go meanwhile go off the assumption that she isn't and re-read the last to events.

FROM FEAR HERSELF (Because sometimes you just need to look back and see what you missed.)

They know about her - they're lying to me! They're all liars! I can't trust anyone else!" Shinohara continued. "...Poor girl. Poor, poor girl, caught in a shadow she never asked for, mismatched memories, coooonflict… ahahah…"

Alright, Hara knows about "-". This is comforting, as it does indicate that "The three verses" may not be as seperate as we originally thought.

"I'm… f-feeling… ravenous… but… Yumika-chan… said… I shouldn't… play… with… my… food… ahah… hahahh… breathe… haha… breathe…"

This quote makes far more sense after the Freindship Event, and indicates that we should take Hara's 'Demons' comment literally, at least for now.

"I don't know who you are, senpai… but it's nice to meet you," he bowed. Every word sounded like it took effort; he seemed to be fighting to keep himself from tearing up. "And… thank you. A lot. For what you've done."

What. "U-Um… Silas backed away, ever slightly. "I don't think I understand…"

Kei called Silas Senpai, which is just strange.

"You care too much, and you trust people too much, and you're way too humble, and somehow you haven't been taken advantage of by other people," Shinohara elaborated. She looked at him and smiled, gratefully.

He has been living in isolation for the past 4~ish years.

I still stand by my previous hypothesis that ??? relates to "-", specifically her Rel. This grows unlikely since it is now higher then 70, in a metric that rarely rises above 40. But the Proximity in "Fear herself" alongside some veiled discussion of her, alongside the fact that Her start condition didn't start her Rel at any less then 20, as the wording does say "Good Friend", may give some hope?

Nothing stands out in my memory from Grey Eminence Tutelage that would relate to "-" so I'll check that later (And by later I mean Thursday).

PS. Is Silas a Naive Appeaser now?

Alright, Hara knows about "-". This is comforting, as it does indicate that "The three verses" may not be as seperate as we originally thought.
The first part of that quote is recited by Shinohara, but is actually said by Maeda. It is her who is paranoid about the rest of the Student Council lying to her.
The second part is Shinohara talking about Maeda and her mismatched memories.
Unfortunately, it is not exactly clear from that alone if Hana knows anything about "-", and obviously Silas can not ask.
Kei called Silas Senpai, which is just strange.
Kei and Yuuko are our underclassmen. They are one grade behind Maeda who is in our class. That makes them our kouhais.
It just so happened that our club has people from the same grades, but that is not necessarily true for others. For example, Reizei's sister has already graduated, which is what led to the dissolution of the Music club.
I still stand by my previous hypothesis that ??? relates to "-", specifically her Rel.
We have had a glimpse at "-"'s character sheet during that one day. Our REL was at 40, Best Friends, "Together, forever and always.".
The stat was 100 at that time, in bold green digits.
Make of that what you will.

Could ??? be some manner of "Nanami Perception" stat, then? How able or likely we are to notice her?

Potato Famine (Trending) - The Potato Famine continues; global biologists are baffled. A very beleaguered agricultural scientist spoke near one of our reporters earlier today: "The affected regions don't even grow potatoes! The primary staple crop in the Spicelands is rice, for Miku's sake! How the fuck are they suffering from a Miku-damned potato famine?!" In response to the growing crisis, the Empress recently used her implied executive power to force a foreign aid stimulus package through the legislature, angering several members of the Diet in the process. This is a developing story. -Tomodachinojiyuu Shimbun
Based on the (white) bolded words (emphasis mine), I sense some kind of SCP/Foundation stuff occurring over there. Isn't there supposed to be a perpetually impoverished country that no one can ever remember? Maybe it's a reference to that?

The poll said:
Quick Question: What parts of my writing need the most improvement right now?
Potato - 78 vote(s)
I am pretty sure we are responsible for it somehow.

Seriously, though. One of the major downsides of Nanami's condition is that no one has any idea something is wrong and things aren't as they are 'supposed' to be. That is why Silas is unable to do anything about it except for the rare moments of lucidity when he is attuned to Nanamiverse... and those eventually fade as well. The voter collective is aware of it, but the character is not.

However, we have a working hypothesis that the voter collective is present as an entity in the setting, and can be interacted with. While I understand that Hanamura may be not the most popular guy to hang out with, we should keep in mind that - should our conjectures prove true, - he is one of the few who can bridge the gap between the knowledge of the players spanning several potential universes, and the knowledge of the protag.

Something to consider, perhaps.

I'd considered getting a message to Hanamura, but I don't know how we'd pass him knowledge of Nanami without her anti-meme coming into effect. We're immune, but Hanamura isn't.

He could scout out other SCPs for us though. The school seems to be a containment facility for humanoid SCPs, so I'd imagine most of the students have some kind of supernatural ability.

Shinohara - Dream Eater
Nanami - Anti-meme
Hanamura - 4th Wall Discernment
Rakuyama - Probably a Siren
Yumika - Probably something to do with her exceptionally good acting/lying skills
Dorima - Probably the creation of another SCP (given the hint Luci gave us)

The others are completely unclear, but that doesn't mean they're definitely normal humans. I'd expect at least half of the student body to be SCPs or otherwise anomalous.
