@Durin, is trying to do another Spreading the Word-like action this turn to get the Chaos polities to be more aware of what they're facing still viable? If so, what's that option's cost and time?

Required reading for the Governor's Own assigned to the protection of Prince Tormod Rotbart

Please report for additional training in improvisational tactics.

Note: This list is in a constant state of flux to adapt to the constantly changing situation on Avernus and Tormod as he grows up. This list is also not intended to limit him, but merely try and reduce the risk to himself given his propensity to end up in ridiculous and extremely dangerous situations.

Things Tormod is no longer allowed to do for his own safety.

  1. Tormod is no longer allowed to sneak into the Governor's War room: While his advice is appreciated by the Governor he should arrange appointments rather than discover ways in and almost be shot by the Own.
  2. Tormod is not allowed to enter office 21 without proper screening: While studying the accurate records of the Trust's various conflicts and created detailed annotated diagrams of how to do better next time is also appreciated, he almost gave his father a heart attack as he needed to be placed in quarantine after reading the records on the Red and Pink Skies.
  3. Tormod is not allowed to leave his guards to visit Primaris Jameson's singing practise: While he is talented at survival, Primaris Jameson's singing can be incredibly lethal to everyone not at a safe distance wearing power armour and strong wards.
  4. Tormod shall not acquire a space suit and go for a void walk without proper supervision: While it is gratifying to see the training his mother gave him in void affairs is bearing fruit, he was almost hit by a cargo vessel.
  5. Tormod cannot skip school: While he has learned most of the information he needs too it is in large part a social experience to earn long term friends and tactical experience. Beyond that whenever he does so he tends to end up in extreme peril.
  6. Tormod must not visit the Knight foundries: He touched a newly constructed one that was granted the name Beowulf and it bonded to him instantly. This is for his own safety and his father is happy to teach him how to use the knight when he is old enough to handle the strain of a full mind meld with its machine spirit, especially one as powerful as this. At the moment having a knight following him in his classes would be detrimental to his concentration and cover.
  7. Tormod is forbidden from attempting the Oakheart floor of DOOM for the foreseeable future: This was created to test Jacob Oakheart to his limits when he was around Tormod's age, but Tormod is not Jacob Oakheart. While he managed to do surprisingly well, he still placed himself in extreme danger before being returned to his proper training course.
  8. Tormod shall not be given additional candy by the chiefs: While we are pleased he is following in his grandfather and mother's footsteps and learning the culinary arts the chef's are spoiling him with additional candy, which could be detrimental to his development. They are hereby regulated to giving him only 3 additional pieces of reward candy.
  9. Tormod is allowed to speak to Grandmaster Ridcully: However, if the Grandmaster mentions the words quest, sword, destiny or other variations of the same he is to be removed post haste. The Grandmaster is reportedly seeing if he has some ability to create heroes and will not be allowed to test it upon Tormund no matter how well it turns out in his visions.
  10. Visiting Tarascon has been allowed: It has been decided that Tormod may visit to maintain relations with Yasssaakamativ, who has agreed to guarantee his safety. Despite this there is to be a constant presence on standby to intervene with a lock on to his psycic signature at all times in order to rescue him should the Dragon turn hostile.
  11. Tormod shall not visit Archmagos Extremis Tranth's "delicate" lab: While the Archmagos assures us that the temporal incident will not happen again, and provided very interesting data Tormod's proclivity for ending up in places he should not despite the odds to the contrary has led to the decision to keep him away from high risk areas until we can have a reasonable degree of certainty he won't wander off and end up in some very temperamental machinery. Again.
  12. Tormod shall not visit Archmagos Biologis Maximal's lab. Apparently dissections while informative can be quite hard on a child's psyche even one as mentally strong and curious as Tormod. Especially when Maximal had several live specimens that were able to be quite aggressive due to the ineffectiveness of current anesthetics.
  13. Tormod shall be allowed to visit the Knight Landholdings with his parents: It is good to see his legacy in action. He must promise to stop trying to direct impromptu dragon hunts, the Utter Bastards are getting worryingly accurate.
  14. Tormod shall be allowed to visit the Vanaheim academies: But he has to promise to watch the lectures rather than try to take over them. It is good for him to see his legacy from the other side.
  15. Tormod shall not accept duels: As he has both the blood of the Aesir and Vanir, as well as the blood of Rotbart Tomod, has been the recipient of numerous duels from members of both noble factions that take their ancestral rivalry very seriously. While Tormod's skills have ensured he has not lost badly on the occasion he does, some of the more duplicitous or prideful duelists have made other attempts on his life.
  16. Valria and Kaijin will be allowed to have sleepovers with Tormod: However, we shall not see a repeat of the infamous pillow fort, so be on guard for hostile takeovers of corridors.
  17. Tormod may not cross dress outside of infiltration training: This is in part because he is extremely good at it, and has used it to give his guards the slip, but also due to his strong resemblance to his grandmother which has caused some distress to certain parties.
  18. Tormod may not interact with the admirers that have sprung up around him in his actual identity: There are enough problems with the cults of personality surrounding his mother and grandfather. Thankfully the pseudonym he uses when attending school has held for now. All "mail" from these interested parties is to be scanned for chaotic corruption and then disposed of barring exceptional circumstances.
  19. Tormod is no longer allowed to play with Mittens the Phase Tiger: There have been too many complaints from an excessive number of waylaid and traumatized pizza men.
  20. Tormod may also not join Grandmaster Xavier's lectures: It is a well known fact that Grandmaster Xavier's lectures are open to all to attend, but it is also known that his lectures are immensely complex by any standards and are more liable to give a normal human an aneurysm rather than teach them about how psykers operate.
  21. Tormod may not visit the Alkhestry lab in Roke Island: While he certainly proved he has no fear by attempting to drink that potion, his lack of fear may end up with him poisoning himself one day.
  22. Tormod is not allowed to spar with an Oakheart: It's not fair on him or anyone else for that matter.
  23. Tormod is allowed to spar with astartes: Unlike with the Oakhearts the gap in skill is not so large that he learns nothing from the defeats. Instead he considers defeating one a goal to aim for.
  24. Tormod may not use astartes as jungle gyms: No matter how much they say they don't mind. They've got better things to be doing and he needs to learn more self control. Thankfully this need no longer apply now that he has grown up. Instead he challenges them to sparring matches.
  25. Tormod may not attempt the Phase Tiger's work regime: It's not healthy for most non Catachanians to try it as adults with centuries out of experience, it's certainly not healthy to try as a teenager.
  26. Tormod may also not attempt to copy Dalv Sepet: No matter how skilled he maybe Commissar Sepet's habits like caving as a hobby are not acceptable as a role model.
  27. Tormod under no circumstances will ask to go on a road trip with Areatha: Relatively self explanatory, but it will be recorded her for certainties sake.
  28. Tormod will not bother Grandmaster Aria: She has excellent self control, but under his barrage of questions it was clear that she was extremely uncomfortable after a few minutes.
  29. The subject of Conservative Mechanicus will not be brought up within his ear shot barring no other choice: If he hadn't been so young at the time the insult he gave the Magos would have been a major scandal. Now he's older he's liable to try and find a soap box.
  30. Tormod must be accompanied at all times in the Muspelheim archives: Vanishing in a library for nearly a week is quite a feat, surviving in it more so.
  31. Similar to point 1 Tormod should not sneak into high Trust strategic debates: If he wishes to observe his Grandfather, Great Uncle and Mother and the rest of the Trust's great strategists at work then he can ask, he should not try and infiltrate it.
  32. Tormod should not ask Councilor Aryz for piggyback rides: While the Councillor took it in good spirits this time we may not be so lucky next time. Addendum years later Tormod apologised and Aryz has still taken it in good spirits.
  33. Tormod is not allowed to challenge General Arok to shooting matches: While he is undoubtedly a skilled shot Arok is likely the best sharpshooter in human inhabited Avernus before being a Quartok. If he keeps trying to top him then he's going to end up pissing off something worse than that Thundabeast herd.
  34. Tormod should be kept away from the secure psyker containment area: While the Grandmaster swears to hell and back that he had nothing to do with it, Tormod was able to get into the cell of Alpha level Jessie Cabaria. That he was able to calm her down and help her regain control is a credit to his iron will and diplomatic skills, but he very nearly came close to death.
  35. Alteration: After consultation with Saint Lin and the Grandmasters Tormod will be allowed to continue visiting Jessie Cabaria, as his presence seems to improve her condition and will. It also helps acclimatise him to the presence of psykers of extreme power.
  36. Tormod…

Notice from Major Helena Floros

As some of you may have noticed, this list seems rather absurd, but as those of you assigned to Tormod's detail have realized Tormod appears to have inherited the luck of his grandfather in full and beyond.

It was started as an informal list when he was a child, when he started to come into his luck, but now that he is older there is a reason it is required reading for all who are assigned to his detail.

He has a knack for getting into dangerous situations, and they have a talent for finding him. This is not helped by his natural curiosity and utter fearlessness which has made him barrel headfirst into danger that might otherwise been avoided.

As such we in the Governor's Own must maintain constant vigilance over him as he grows and matures. While he is far older than when his luck started and he is able to fight off foes of great strength on his own we must maintain constant vigilance as the absurdity of his luck seems to only grow year by year. In fact I imagine we will be trying to keep him safe from his own luck for centuries to come.

Thus while they are absurd we will continue to add to the list until such a time it is unneeded clearly and completely.

Keep your eyes sharp

Floros

Also known as our Grandson's crazy hi jinks are going to kill our body guards via stress.

Basically taking the idea of him being curious and interested in meeting new people, adding in fearlessness from his name (which means thunder courage I think) with a giant helping of Rotbart's hero luck. Only worse and manifesting at a far younger age. Non canon for certain, but I had fun.

Hmm it's been canonised.
Well our grandson is now a most curious proto lementer to be.

Well at least we won't need to go through the whole 'what career will he follow' discussion with him.

Emperor help the Own if Tormod ever gets his hands on a Chrono-Displacer.

um...durin canonized it anyway....ok then.

I am somewhat saddened that tormod is prevented from having dalv as a role model...I agree he probably shouldn't go caving with dalv or simply cas he knows dalv has gone calving....but Calv might have good lessons for him.

quite a few of these seem similar in that they are preventing him from interacting from certain things that he could learn from.....

also, it seems that if rotbarts specialty is a bizarr super-skill with martial. tormod's is with intrigue.

Until Tormod goes caving with a Knight Titan after crashing through the ground after drop jumping atop a utter bastard dragon after doing bet with Ridcully about who could hunt and capture a UBD alive.

1. Do we think the Hive mind is a god? God of the primal Warp?
Many of the Tyranids are almost certainly soul bound to each other in some capacity. If it loses its animalistic mein and connection to the Primal warp it would have the sheer power to become the next Chaos god.

2. Would a psyker order of specialized assassins be a good idea?
3. What's the opinion of the Inquisition on the idea?
I was thinking of things the Imperium didn't have, and realized that they never did this for some reason. With some of our powers it might be terrifyingly effective against Orks. Hopefully a worthy addition to our disruption efforts. Obviously this is going to have to wait until well after the current war. Definitely an Xavier action, maybe see what Sepet and the Inquisition can add.

4. Could Ridcully use his ability to divine for warp echos to find stuff that would further enhance divination?
(Maybe worthwhile as prep for figuring out difficult warp echos in the future, though we probably don't have time to do it against the Tyranids)

I would think that the nature of divination would make divination-focus have the need to be specific to the target of the divination....then again he might be able to find something akin to a "telescope".

1. you have no clue. ans it is possible that the Warp is different enough wherever they come from for this not to be a relivent question
2. it could work
3. they like it
4. he could try, even for him very ahrd though

(1): This makes me think that the reason why the concept of a "god" even exists at all in wh40k is because people worshipped too many.
