The Pantheon of Three
Yharim and Yharon, two names that became synonymous with conquest, destruction, death and fire upon their home world, a fetid jungle death world that the less educated may compare to Catachan.
The child who would become a God began life as a normal infant, unaware of the potential within their soul, given an egg by their mother as a gift. She hoped that he would raise the creature within as a companion, for the beast within was strong and would make a worthy companion.
Well she was correct, but not in the manner that she supposed. A rival family came upon them in the dead of night and to dispose of the evidence of their murder, herded them into a volcano and one by one threw them into the magma below, laughing and jeering. The egg, still unhatched, was thrown in as well.
Just as Yharim was tossed screaming into death, his powers awoke. His blind screams connected with a powerful presence lurking within the magma below. The egg and what it contained stirred and knew the presence. Empowered by the heat it broke forth from its shell, catching Yharim's already burning body before he struck the surface and pulled him to safety.
While to an outside observe it would seem as if Yharim was sobbing from despair, but in truth his tears were tears of rage. With a tug of will, the Dragon turned about and descended upon the panicking murderers, the flames burning them to ashes.
In his heart Yharim knew what he must do to ensure that nobody would ever take what was his again. He would subjugate the entire world to his will.
With the almighty strength of the now named Yharon, and his own tactical brilliance, Yharim set about making this dream a reality. There was no foe the two together could not match and village after village, town after town they subjugated. Crushing those who dissented without mercy, while rewarding those who complied, every time their following growing and growing.
In the end Yharim sat at the top of the world, on a throne made from the solidified ashes of those rulers who had dared oppose his burned visage, Yharim's burning maw behind him, an eternal warning to those who would challenge the Dragon Rider.
With his dominion secured he ordered vast projects and works in his name, to glorify himself and his partner Yharon, to ensure their place in the history of their people would never be forgotten. Across the world his armies set about taming what had once been wild, while vast roads, cities and more arose. All with statues proclaiming their glory. The temples of old gods were cast down, replaced with ones venerating their lord. People spoke with hushed whispers, for who knew when one of the maws of Yharon were watching, waiting for the chance to take away those who spoke against their lord to sacrifice them for his glory.
And above all else, people watched the sky in fear. For if rebellion came then doom would come from on high as the Yharon itself, with Yharim atop his back would come, and bring with him fiery retribution upon those cravens who dared still resist.
Within a few decades the entire planet worshipped the duo at first out of fear, but as more and more were born into the religion out of heart felt belief. And this in turn prompted changes within both of them. The concentrated worship, the sacrifices. Eventually they both bloomed outwards and became Gods in truth as well as in name.
However, when they looked to the galaxy, beyond their home they were horrified. They saw that far from being a powerful up and coming God, they were in fact a terribly small fish in a pond filled to the brim with incredibly hungry sharks.
They could not remain on their world. They needed to grow. Yharim, always ruthless ordered the entire planetary population to commit ritual suicide and without question his orders were obeyed. This gave the pair enough power to go beyond the world, and spread cults and warrior lodges across the galaxy, spreading themselves out enough that they would not easily be destroyed by accident.
Then as any good king needs subordinates Yharim went in search of one's worthy of him, Yharon as ever his trusty steed, intent on staying one step a head of Khorne, who was impressed and annoyed at his tactic's nature, seeing it as an afront to his majesty as a supreme general.
Of this terrorised court two stand far above the rest. The first is Valanar. Valanar was and still is a highly sought-after God within the warp, for the simple reason that their domains are incredibly rare. Craftmanship rarely survives on its own in a galaxy ruled by the Imperium, which quashes all opposition. But, Valanar is different. It was created in a distorted image of Vaul, from a species who acquired a damaged Eldar text on the God. The result was a God that was able to survive the destruction of its originator species long enough to contact another God and secure a stream of divine power enabling it to survive.
For millennia Valanar created wonders for the Gods of the Warp, each time extracting a high price that was accepted as its skills were too valuable to lose to the competition. What was more it had ensured that it would be protected both from rival gods seeking to enslave it and chaos by its network of patrons. When Yharim arrived and commissioned a helm to replace one lost fighting a hunter Khorne had dispatched for him, Valanar dutifully did as was requested. However, only a few years later he found Yharim and Yharon had returned, wounded and bleeding from the head, yet filled with righteous indignation and attacked it, bellowing that he had been cheated by the smith. Yharim claimed that there had been a flaw in the helm that had nearly cost him his life and when examined by other Gods their inexpert eyes found there was indeed a small chink that was a critical flaw in the armour. While Valanar was suspicious he was unable to prove that he had not made a mistake and to this day whether Yharim had deceived his fellows to bind the smith or whether Valanar really had erred is unknow…although the former is far more likely. Regardless Yharim demanded compensation and by their own rules the other Gods could not interfere. So Valanar was bound to Yharim, his slave.
A prize for his master who lets other Gods come and commission from Valanar and enjoys the full breadth of the divine smith's services, whose weapons and armour are a major core for why Yharim has not yet fallen.
The other God is Zaeed, the soldier of fortune and God of mercenaries. Unlike Valanar Yharim did not need to coerce Zaeed into his service, instead he merely offered him a good contract. In fairness it was disguised as an oath of fealty, but to a mercenary such things matter very little. Despite this Zaeed has remained steadfastly loyal to Yharim. Perhaps he is worried about what might happen if he abandons his master, or perhaps he is smart enough to know that if he goes alone then his death is assured.
These three have survived in their strange and unhappy partnership always managing to stay half a step a head of their competition and the hunting horns of Khorne.
Their worshippers in the mortal realms are primarily mercenaries wondering the stars and warrior lodges hidden within other civilisations. As a rule, the officer's worship Yharim, the fodder and quartermasters Zaeed, while the slaves and artificers are made to worship Valanar. In the current confusion of the warp and materium they have even been able to secure one or two polities that worship the pantheon as the main religion, although their hold is usually tenuous.
While on their own each God would have likely been devoured long ago the three combined makes for a surprisingly good team.
Yharim and Yharon are commander and ace both Yharim's domains are strategy and tactics, with a minor domain in cavalry and mounted fighting as all know dragon riders are the pinnacle of cavalry.
Yharon however, is destruction incarnate. Intelligent, fire spewing monstrosity that became synonymous with destruction on its home word alone it can cause incredible devastation and with his rider the two are near unbeatable.
Valanar of course is not a front-line combatant, but that does not make it any less important. It is the one who out fits the other two Gods for combat. Yharon alone is potent but clad in god like auric plate thicker than two men's heads, but light as a feather he becomes almost untouchable. Similarly, so, it girds the mercenaries of Zaeed in equipment far surpassing that which is normally available to such disreputable fighters.
Finally, Zaeed provides the bulk of fighters to the trio. Able to create daemons after a sense, these fighters are commanded by Yharim to deadly effect letting them strike far above their normal abilities and negating their largest weakness their cowardice, likely out of fear. Zaeed also proves to be a consummate negotiator, able to handle negotiations that Yharim is too blunt to be trusted with.
In the mortal realm, they provide blessings and some daemons.
Yharim and Yharon: Yharim blesses commanders and cavalrymen with improved tactical abilities, superior riding ability as well as infusing their mounts with power. Recently Yharim has figured out how to apply this ability to non-living vehicles like tanks, although the effect is much reduced. It is most amplified on living creatures, the scalier the better. The result is that Yharim worshippers are among the finest cavalry in the materium as well as some good commanders. So far, his only daemons seem to either be the Fire Dragons and a bare handful of ascended mortals that form other parts of his court. The fire dragons are summoned through the flaming sacrifice of numerous prisoners but are incredibly dangerous mounts made in the image of Yharon. The twisting of the mind is an induced cruelty, ruthlessness, possessiveness and desire to increase their holdings and status.
Valanar: Is able to bless others into becoming superlative craftsmen and likely has the simplest blessings. However, it can only bless someone into being superlative at one thing and only if they have skill beforehand. The mental twisting is an obsession with finding flaws in their own work, as their current binding is due to a flaw that it is convinced is not there.
Zaeed: Has the fewest blessings, but the most daemons. As a God of Mercenaries these daemons are summoned in the form of contracts, with payment often agreed on in advance, but paid later (although not always). This allows large armies of them to be summoned well in advance assuming the summoner thinks they can pay off the debt accrued. These daemons come in several different types and tiers of ability. The highest tier are powerful, while the lowest tier are basically imps that are worth only as canon fodder at best. It is even fairly common for mercenary bands completely drained of mortal soldiers to replace them entirely with Zaeed's daemons and defeat enemies who had broken themselves upon lesser the mortals. Zaeed does bless some of his followers with a pernatural sense of danger, able to tell when the wind is turning against them, so they can get out of harm's way.
While strong and able to deal with most of the competition on their level, the trio is incessantly hunted by agents of two of the Great Gods of Chaos. The first is Khorne, but since the death of the Emperor the Abomination two has joined the hunt, irritated that another claims to be a tyrant within the warp.
Two great Gods coming for their heads made Yharim much more open when Zahak and Ugruer came to his court with a business proposition.
When the assault on Nurgle's gardens came Yharim torched large chunks of garden on Yharon, distracting the forces of Nurgle while leaving the direction of the army for once to Zaeed, who ordered his forces to do what any good mercenary does. Steal everything.
They were making good progress too when Nurgle suddenly ordered all its forces to retreat, giving Yharim breathing room and letting Zaeed strip multiple Nurgle worlds down to the core.
With the unprecedented success of the operation and by his standards overflowing with power and resources Yharim has proven open to Zahak and Ugruer's askance for continued cooperation, reasoning that this will give him ample body shields to put in the way of Chaos and give him a chance to subordinate numerous other deities.
