@Durin, if we decapitated the enemy's high leadership, would the enemy's stolen knowledge of our tech be lost? I'm guessing that they claimed dibs and are the exclusive holders of the knowledge.

Ynnead is a deity and therefore inferior to the Emperor, while Slaanesh is an anti-achievement. The War in Heaven was monumental but is inequivalent. Creating the Emperor was one singular feat, while surviving the War in Heaven was several lesser feats. I wasn't clear. When I said "far exceeded anything the eldar had ever done" I meant "far exceeded any one thing the eldar had ever done".

At this point we hit the problem of Titans being physically impractical if not impossible, but because it's 40k it works. By the same logic the Titan drop pods should work despite the issues that real world physics would cause.
no, the knowledge is held on the forge worlds

@Enjou, did you see my post regarding the placement of Jacob? It's got a fair amount of likes.

:p

He said that they're unlikely to become disorganised if parts of their high command survive. That means if ALL the high command dies they'll become disorganised like every other army.

Did he say how likely that was?

Even if it's guaranteed, we've seen that usually takes the of penalties on roles. They usually aren't that large either.

Getting rid of them os far better.

@Durin, what will happen if the entirety of the Mechanicus' high command is assassinated besides some moderate roll maluses, if anything?

@Durin

1) what's the likelihood of an eldar strikeforce killing enough dark mech leaders to disorganize them.

2) how many darkmech have to be slain before this occurs? (Every general, every hero ex.)
I'm pretty sure the Eldar will be able to kill all the non daemon prince tech priests.

If they've got an 80% chance against the daemon prince then they'll have a massive shot against them.
Turoq is one target, which they have bonuses against due to ynnead.

I'd be surprised if they didn't get a general boost to killing stuff (god of Death).

And Turoq is still orders of magnitude stronger than a Fabricator Locum.

Did Durin say anything about capturing the Arks Mechanicus and having Lin purify them?
Probably the same as trying to capture and purify a battlebarge.

Unless we can crash em on Avernus probably not.

In exchange for letting the enemy force go unmolested and wreck our industry. Because we can't bring our full strength to bear on the defense due to differences in strategic speed
Alright, no, I am all for Warhost, but I also spent a lot of time looking at ours and their forces, and I say with confidence that in no way Mechanicus task forces are unopposed and will easily wreck our industry. They could've been utterly defeated even without any Eldar help, and I am mainly for it because we need minor favors anyway.
I decided to go with adding 20 Avernite PDF Corps to Asgard, and 5 choirs and 5 psyker brigades to Muspelheim to get the math right. If anyone cares to argue I should do something else, please go ahead.
In my opinion, it's better to bring five armies of somewhat inferior units than two armies of equal units to Asgard. We need bodies that will hold above all else. But it doesn't matter much.

@Enjou, I think it's a bad idea to send Jacob to Asgard, for pretty much the same reasons why Nurgle said it was a good idea: Jacob is good at small unit tactics, stealth, and assassinating heroes. The battle for Asgard will be a full on World War. Jacob's proficiency at small unit tactics will not make any difference there. The battle will be waged by massive armies duking it out, not individual heroes duelling each other. Hordes counter heroes, and Jacob is a hero specialised in killing heroes, not hordes, so it's especially bad for him.

Send him to Muspelheim. The battlefields are smaller, so small unit tactics will be more important. As the update itself said, the battle for Muspelheim will be one of elites, and heroes counter elites, and with elites come heroes to lead them, so Jacob's status as hero and proficiency at killing heroes will be most useful here. Finally, Muspelheim is a lot of space stations. You know Genestealers? Or the aliens from Alien/Aliens? That's Jacob. He's the one crawling through the side passages, ambushing enemies and causing lots of fear and damage. There's no substantial opportunity for his stealth proficiency to come to the fore in Asgard, but there's many opportunities in Muspelheim.

I'm trying to keep a decent amount of heroes on both fronts. I moved Jacob because I moved Tamia and there were no other good options there. If you lot want me to move Jacob back, then I'm moving Tamia back as well, or someone else. Maybe move Aria instead? We've added more psykers to Muspelheim due to the math error, so moving either could be ok. Aria might be more suited towards Asgard, anyways, and we've got the Nulls and Voids on Muspelheim.

Though I'll note that Asgard has the Phase-Tigers and the Last Hunters, both of whom those very same things. I would presume Jacob could work well with either, and that there will be operations relevant to that. It's not like I intend to throw Jacob onto the front lines to shoot mooks here.

I think the bonus to having them disorganized and easier to kill is outweighed by the bonus of having them killed.

They are not unopposed and no part of an unsupported battle is going to be easy for either side. Yet, the darkmech remain a serious threat that will be bloody and costly to repulse.

Move Tamia back. Her traits make her effective against Chaos Undivided.

There is a major difference between a tainted world and a possessed warship. Sort of the difference between uranium and low grade radioactive waste.
Hm. Figured he'd be capable of exorcism, especially with his rod.

Also a much greater chance of the Greater Daemon trying to bite Lin's head off.

@Durin
1. Do the Cleaners perma kill daemon's possessing things?

Well the disorganisation and easier to kill is the result of them being killed.

BEGONE DAEMON!

NAW! PFFEEAEAWEW

@Durin

1. Do our drop troopers drop from orbit?
2. If not, would it be a valid Grenadiers action to create orbital drop troopers?

Okay, but we know from durin, that is unlikely to happen.

So, the benefit of this is killing turoq, and i'm not convinced it is a benefit given the likelihood that he'll die anyways and the very poor position he'll be in if he doesn't.

Perhaps, but "they'll wreck our industry and it'll be Pyrrhic victory" is in no way guaranteed, so saying "strike force will kill Turoq in exchange for wrecked industry and Pyrrhic victory" is wrong.

Point, it's not guaranteed.

Still, I think it's a possibility that this assault could go very badly for us.

One important thing to consider is that the attacks aren't going to happen all at the same time.
What happens in the first battle is going to be communicated back to the other invasion forces, and they'll react accordingly. If they hear about a great big Eldar warhost wrecking the first chaos fleet to attack, they'll be a lot more hesitant about engaging us at their next planned target. Certainly, they will be more careful.
If they hear that the commanders were assassinated, the other commanders are going to increase their own security a lot. And if Turoq himself is with one of the invasion fleets that still haven't engaged, he's likely to run home or do something equally drastic.
And remember: the Strike force will be more effective if they can attack Turoq while he's engaged in a raid/siege.

So where does that leave us?
Should we wait to decapitate Dark Mech leadership until we've ensured Turoq's death?

And I'll leave this here again:

For Strike-Force:
- Higher chances of getting rid of Turoq (the dangerously competent Tzeenchian Space Marine).
- Enemy's ability to monitor our fleet movements tied up with said SM.
- Leaves Turoq's realm (possibly?) crippled by infighting for the leadership.
------------------------------------------
For Warhost:
- Chron and Atlas resistant to leadership decapitation.
- Just killing the leadership still leaves a lot of army to do a lot of damage to our worlds.
-- - Preserving more Trust military and industry leaves us better able to deal with incoming Waaagh!
- Leaves Turoq's military crippled.
- Still good chances of killing Turoq with Warhost and Arethea

If I'm missing something on this chart, let me know and I'll update it.

It's not like decapitating Dark mech leadership will affect them much anyways and regardless we still have a decent chance to kill Turoq himself with the warhost thanks to Areatha.
