Chapter Five Non-Canon Omakes: Hye Calls in a Favor
Omake - Hye Calls in a Favor

Hye Richards stared at reports of the wreckage in Dis that was causing soldiers to be 'inspired to act on 'baser' insticts' and attempt to kill fellow soldiers'. Issues were constantly evolving and it required her constant attention despite assistance from the Inquisitin and the Chief Arbiters Office. There was no time to lose as yet another ranked officer or unit fell to temptation by the the aura emanating in that Hellship.

As she mused over the reports the door to her office slid open as a symbolic woman stepped forward wearing the White and Yellow of the Imperial Trust Navy. Her protege has returned again and this time from a campaign.

"It's been awhile General. How has Avernus treated you?" she said with an easy smile.

"Oh you know. Constant attempts to have my drains shoot out spiders and worms to eat me when I'm naked with my husband. So do you have time for that little favor I asked from you?"

"I do but are you sure it's okay if I do this? No one can stop me but it would look off."

Through all the commotion this last month multiple Proffesors at the Officer Academy have died in the line of duty or pulled in order to take to the field still. The staff in attendance is less than bare bones and lacking a Commandant for the Academy as well as a Principal Lead. Hye had shared with Syr her fears of the Academy crop being less that ideal for the future due to lack of resources available to them.

"We all need to make ends meet Syr and right now I need the academy staffed. Your going in as a Proffesor and Temporary Commandant for as long as possible. I know your on vacation and you can of course take time off without asking but the more your able to invest I think the better."

Syr nodded "Well I guess I'd better change then. Does it come with a uniform Hye?"

"The last Commandant was run over by a Space Marine but I think you can iron out the wrinkles. You Navy folk have assets for that right?"

Gallows Humor was Richards favorite kind of humor...and everyday talk for that matter.

---------------------------------------

"Academy ATTENTION!"

The doules of the Avernus Officer Academy snapped like rubber bands at attention. Looking forward at there new Commandant or at least there Temporary one until a new one can be found.

"I am Syr Rotbart. Ex-Lieutenant General and Commodore of the Imperial Trust. I will be taking over the academy at the request of High Command for a duration until a new Commandant can be appointed. Like you I had went through this academy and even taught classes before being transferred to the Trust Navy. Like you I was a Doule and Gruaduate.

I expect you all to hold onto the standards that you are supposed to be in order to graduate as Officers in Avernus. I know some of you are on self-study and are in need of guidance. But unfortuatnely I must ask that you do so in a way that will hold the standards of the past. Anything less will endanger your lives as officers and that of your troops. Anything less will endanger Avernite Citizens that you are sworn to protect. Anything less will endanger Saint Lin. Anything less will endanger His Majesty the Emperor's future Throne.

I will not allow you to shirk your responsibilities. Until further I am enacting protocol 66-787 of the Military Code of Justice. Any Doule will be punished with the same intensity as an Officer of the Army. If you fail to meet standards, attend class, Perform adequately, or any other you will be subject to Tribunal. At the Tribunal you may fined, imprisoned after the Academy, Or even dismessed.

This is not fair. But life is not fair and I will never as long as I remain as Commandant allow unworthy leaders take charge of Military. If you feel that this is too much then leave and face no prosecution. This is your only chance to walk away without retaliation by a Tribunal or the State. Dismissed."

---------------------------------------

Academy students huddled into there respective formations. One group the 'Teer Batalion' was practically bursting from the seems. Teer was always at the bottom of the totenpole at the Academy and the place to transfer less than adequate doules.

"So what do you guys think? Swim or Leave?" asked Matthew to his comrades.

"What are our chances of making it out without dying?" one asked.

"If your living in Avernus then you need to know the answer." another said "Thing is I can't let my parents worry about me going to jail because I flunked a stupid test or something. This is bogus!"

"Well i'm staying guys. I didn't go through a year of applying and testing to get in to walk out. Besides with this whole thing I bet we might be able to come together as a Battalion we can move up in the rankings. I bet the others will have an exodus but us? We can stay, fight, and win.

An remember the higher the rankings we go the better our evaluations and the better assignments."

Matthew nodded "I think we said what we needed to say. So hands in to stay. The rest of you get the fuck out of our unit."

---------------------------------------

*One Month Later*

"So you scared the pants off of them Syr?"

"No I was being realistic with them. They made there decisions and I think we'll all be better off for it."

"I lost 241 doules."

"They were all bound to fail out. They left early and allowed for more spots in the classes for the rest. It was the best move possible."

END

*Doule = Means 'basic' in greek. In military school Doules are entrants to an academy while Cadets are those who have actually started coursework. Doules are usually given shitty detail jobs like waking up earlier to wake up the others and handing out food. Eventually they 'promote' up to Cadets. Or fail out depending on the institution.

I was thinking of a joint venture with the Dragon's Nest, since a Waagh concerns everybody.
I dont think we're large enough to need the Deathwatch yet. We could use something like it to cull the Orks, but I think it would be be more efficient to have a taskforce made up of mainly Guard and Navy and a few Astartes and Assassins rather than an independent organization.

Dosn't The inquisition already do that.
Yes, and it works just fine for small scale infestations. The problem is that large infestations like Tugozaks domain are to large to deal with on there own. In the Imperium the Deathwatch was formed to give the Ordo Xenos the power to to quell those infestations before they get any larger. The reason We dont have the Deathwatch is because we can afford to give those Xeno polities our personal attention, making it far less necessary.

We also don't have the military forces to spare from our primary fleet for that.
The Inquisition can always just request additional forces directly from Varangian Guard and Trust Army/Navy. No need to have entirely separate organisation for that.

I mean the Varangian Guard could just set that up themselves as a rotational assignment alongside some Inquisitorial assets. It' a job that needs to get done either way.

Maybe V.Guards + Blood Dragons?

The Deathwatch is part of the Inquistion....

They are the Chamber Militant of the Ordo Xeno just like the Grey Knights are the Chamber Militant of the Ordo Malleus.

The Deathwatch would mean more Space Marines under the Inquisition who can react faster than the much more clunky legion.

that makes sense in an Imperium where there is barely any central authority due to scale and travel time is in the years, it makes a lot less sense in the Imperial Trust where every citizen can name each of the worlds of the Trust and it takes mere months to travel from one side to the other, allowing a far stronger central power and reducing the need for specialist organisations that take control of forces to deal with specific threats.

Yes but Orks are the number one threat for the Trust and are likely to remain an existential threat for the foreseeable future.

IMO they warrant a specialised organisation to deal with them.

Maybe we can speak with Chapter Master Julius about rotational duty to kill of the Orks or tag teaming with the Blood Dragons for Astartes led assasination missions? Make it clear we want Astartes to be taking the lead in killing Orks and offer to support in some way. But float the idea by him privately to see what he thinks. We shoudn't force him to do stuff.

Astartes are our ultimate weapons of war. Add in some armaments from Tranth, Inquisitorial inteligence gathering, and maybe some Last Hunters and we find oursevles with a pretty good answer to keeping the local Ork Population down. That said, we need to come to the realization that won't solve the Ork problem. A WAAGH! from nowhere can touch down in Tugozaks realm and then move into the Trust so we need to keep that in mind.

@Durin

1. I want to make a Football soccer make where all planets included Avernus plays. How likely would Avernite teams be to be allowed to play?

2. Omake would detail first the game (soccer irl), followed by the Avernite leagues, planetary leagues, Inter-planetary leagues, and finally the Trust wide cup game where each planet sends one team to represent them all. Thoughts?

3. I'm Aiming for canon status so what barriers are there?

4. What kind of performance enhancing drugs are there?

I think a full organization may be too much given how centralized we are. What we may want to do is set up a permanent joint task force with the blood dragons to keep an eye on the Orks. Not only would it be a way to keep the Orks under watch but it would be a trust-building exercise with the blood dragons.

IMO they warrant a specialised organisation to deal with them.
Thing is for the foreseeable future Orks are the biggest threat to the entire Trust. So the entire military is going to be specializing in dealing with them. There's no need for a specialist unit when you're specializing the entire military.

Creating a separate unit is just adding more difficulty to coordination when basically the full military strength we can spare is going to be dispatched to deal with Orks on a regular basis.

1. relatively, while incredible athletic and good at teamwork they have some combat instincts that get in the way
2. works
3. first it would be a niche sport on Avernus, next it would not be anything like as big on any world as sports are on earth

Why do people want to add more and more specialist organization, specialist units, specialist.. ARGH!

Being able to act against everything is often more useful than being able to act 2* vs one thing and 0.5* against everything else.

@Durin

1.while a full organization for ork monitoring would be silly, would a permanent task force dedicated to keeping tabs on orks be viable?

2. if so would it be a decent idea to make it a joint task force between use and the dragon's nest?
