I thought the reason the Hydras were gone is that we did them last year, but I checked and that's not the case. Good catch.
EDIT: We did them last year - as a research project. You're right, they should pop up as a Munitorum action this year.

I vote we do both Constant Recruitment and cult hunting in Yphax via personal action. I agree we need to replenish Psyker Hunters, but I don't want to give the cults a break when we're so close to getting rid of them for good.

Also, we have enough Adv. Material if we expand Hollin to deal with the population pressure, rather than doing Limberlost now. We can even expedite it. (We are allowed to spend the income we get this year, right?)

Also, also, why does no one want to try a regional survey? Can we check how this works before we blow another six years on a single species?

I'd prefer to do Witch Sniffers this year to get the automatic action, then keep doing Individual Strengths from then on. Durin didn't say how many years' worth of Individual Talents it takes until they start finding more minor psykers automatically.
(Maybe we can add something to let psykers that really don't want to be Witch Sniffers to re-specialize when we do Individual Talents next year.)

(You also need to edit the Double Down bit so the tally program will catch it properly)

Does anyone remember the chaos bric-a-brac that kept getting mysteriously purified in the Avernus' Spine region back when the Sons of War invaded? That is probably worth looking into.

Getting an extra morale does not seem as significant as finally unlocking the ability to personally oversee diplomatic actions. We have enough morale that cadianising is not going to drop us anywhere near ten, and we can easily take more morale boosters in the next few turns. Finally getting enough diplomacy to oversee diplomatic actions will provide huge benefits as soon as we get it.

Just a note on the morale - mainly I just want to ensure we have enough of a buffer that the death of the Emperor doesn't screw us over too much. I could be convinced to change this and do it next turn, though.

I doubt that the death of the emperor is going to hit us harder than -6 or -8 morale. We might lose a tiny bit of production in the year directly after it happens, but it's not worth worrying about. Besides, we can do Priest Training: Public Speaking to pull up morale without wasting a precious personal action.

There's military morale to consider too, but I suppose we can put it off for another year. I'll change to Courtly Manners.

In the interests of maybe finally getting to do a Survey action, I'll switch mine to Avernus' Spine as well. I don't really care too much which area we try this on. I thought Elysium would be interesting, but Skewfiend has a point.

Well, I guess I can do a survey. The only thing that kind of annoys me about it is that it gives us more stuff we have to research with the already limited turns we have, and we're not really inclined to spend more than one Biologis action on a turn because of our huge tech backlog.

It should also increase the chances of our genetors finding out something interesting about a species, so it isn't all bad news.

Anyway, thinking about the Imperium's collapse.... We gained a lot of morale points due to religion-related things, didn't we? Are all those going to go bye-bye when the Emperor dies and it turns out all the religious propaganda is mostly crap? In that case, putting more of our population's faith in us directly via Public Speaking personal actions might actually be wise.

Or maybe we could put a spin on the Emperor's death that mostly leaves the rest of the religion valid. "He's not dead, he's just resting!"

That stuff is there in our research backlog regardless, it's just mostly invisible with most of the species research not having been started yet. Species research is interesting and occasionally useful, as shown by the Life-Eater Fungus weaponization, but regional surveys could be equally useful. I want to find out whether that could be the case before it's Turn 75 when we finally get around to doing one, then kicking ourselves because it would have been good to do more of them much earlier.

It is analogous to ruin exploration, in that we are better served by finding out what is there earlier, so we can prioritise our research sensibly, rather than just clearing our list before finding new stuff that might be deserving of higher priority.

So, I'm thinking of changing to expanding Hollin. We need to eventually do it anyways, and it's not like we can't afford it with our ludicrous income, and displacing the population only to put it back into Limberlost later doesn't make sense. I don't want to double down on it, but it's only two years. Thoughts?

I'm not really in a position to check the numbers, but if we can afford it, I'd be down for that. Lasting solutions are typically preferable.

I think Hollin is a good idea. Personally, I think we can afford to expedite it, but even if you don't want to do that, I still think it's a good idea. We're going to hit the cap on another Major City again soon enough, and maybe we won't be so strapped for Adv. Material then.

Though i'd prefer to stagger the militia into 3 one year projects instead of going straight for cadia training. Same result, same amount of time but allows us to switch the slot to something else if anything urgent comes up. Assuming the time required for cadia training goes down as we complete lesser training options.

Yeah, we can afford it I think. Went ahead and changed it. Also, regarding Promethium we're getting our Forge City on the moon that has reserves, so Limberlost isn't quite the same priority.

Oh, and the GM has given us a clue. This arc's name is "The Calm"... oh dear. It seems the storm is coming.

People of Avernus
People of Avernus

I have come to speak to you today about the lessons I had learnt the recent attack on Alfheim by the heinous Tyranids.

The treacherous enemies of man will ever seek our doom. But that cowardly lot will always strike at our weaknesses. Remember the Sons Of War! Remember the Necrons! They would rather sit amongst the stars or in the sky than set feet on our glorious home and face the dangers we do every day. And rightly so, for they died in droves!

We learnt from those lessons. These days we can proudly point at our Air Force and their deeds of glory, and the stars are guarded by an ancient and most holy Space Fortress.

So the Wicked Chaos turned to other means. They struck at the weakness in man's souls! They turned our beloved brothers against us, and whispered lies into the ears of those granted power of the warp by the Emperor. We struck them down, for no man weak in spirit can ever stand against the might of the righteous. Millions died, but we prevailed.

We learnt from those lessons. These days, the evil cults are nearly eradicated, just a few lost we will find within the decade. Our eyes are ever vigilant and our hearts ever strong so the corruption will not return. We have a Scholastia Psykana, so that those granted the gift and burden of the warp by the Emperor can harness it in the service of his Empire. Gerald Xavier was blessed by the Emperor with a great gift and a stronger faith to carry his burden. He is the most decorated man on Avernus!

We must learn the lessons our holy Emperor teaches. We must ever eradicate weakness where we find it.

And I learnt much during the attack on Alfhiem!

When our Enemies could no longer face us, they turned to strike at our allies and brothers! But they failed, for we had already foreseen their treachery, and so we could gather a great host in unity and brotherhood. The Emperor rewarded our piety, and not one foul Tyranid ever made it through the curtain of blazing guns and holy wrath to touch the earth that rightly belongs to the Emperor and Man!

But we must never be too proud, too secure in our own strength. Only the Emperor is eternally strong, and in pride, we lost many ships to an already defeated and broken foe! We almost lost one most holy instrument of the Emperor's Wrath, a venerable battleship. We are lucky indeed the Emperor gave mercy to his devout children, and it could be salvaged.

We must learn the lessons our holy Emperor teaches! We must ever eradicate weakness where we find it!

And I did find weakness on Alfhiem!

Under the foolish King Trascroft, their army, the Hammer of the Emperor, had fallen to weakness. For this, Trascroft was struck down by the will of the Emperor, and we have reached out to help our brothers regain the strength that should rightfully be theirs as children of the Emperor.

We must learn the lessons our holy Emperor teaches! We must ever eradicate weakness where we find it!

And I find weakness on Avernus. I must not be too proud to admit it.

You, the common man and woman, you are the precious Heart of the Holy Empire of Man. Every man that fights, fights for you! Every man that dies, dies for you. The Angels of the Emperor, the Space Marines, battle his foes so that you may do His work! Bask in his glorious Light, for he shines his light on you!

But you are also a weakness, and our enemies we surly strike at you.

We must learn the lessons our holy Emperor teaches! We must ever eradicate weakness where we find it!

Anything else is an affront to Him.

And so, we will. We have already begun, and most of you know how to use that most humble yet important of His tools, the precious Lasgun.

It is not enough. As is right and proper as Children of Avernus, you will be given a most divine mystery of the Omnissiah, found by His Grace on this most holy planet, the Impaler Rifle.
It is not enough. You will be given Heavy Weapons, so that you may face any foe where you stand.
It is not enough. You will be given his Holy Armour, from humble Chimera to the steadfast Leman Russ, so that you may persue any foe that dares sully our world.

Rejoice! For every drop of sweat is a prayer for strength, every drill a benediction, every bruise a lesson from the Emperor himself.

No longer will you have to cower away from the predations of His wicked foes, for you will be strong! Every man an equal to the armies of other planets. Every man a proud son of the Emperor.

Forged in the fires of Avernus, you shall be the Anvil to the Hammer of his Army, so that together we may forge our Grand destiny!

We will learn the lessons our holy Emperor teaches! We will ever eradicate weakness where we find it!

HE TEACHES! WE LEARN! SEMPER FORTIS!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Because you know what? The people of Avernus understand danger, and pain and hardship. If Rotbart and the Emperor ask, how could they not follow? It's all a matter of how you put it.

SEMPER FORTIS is supposed to be 'eternally strong' in Latin.

I didn't notice until I was halfway done, but the whole learning theme actually fits Avernus rather well, what with the massive amounts of education and the great tech discovered.

"He teaches! We learn" would make a pretty decent battle cry.

On that note, Avernus is a great fit for the Blood Ravens, what with the emphasis on learning, the massive amount of psykers and the high martial skill.

The idea of a regiment coming to Avernus, seeing some drills and making fun of them because they are less skilled and this is supposed to be a deathworld (To be fair, they probably are better), only to find that those were actually civillians, just amuses me. As does the idea of eventually giving Baneblades to the militia, because that is clearly a sane thing to do.

Doing a cost analysis of my current plan, I've switched to Munitorum actions that don't waste our precious Advanced Material. The remaining costly options are these; everything else is negligible:

[ ] Militia Training: Cadia Style
Cost: 30,950,000 Thrones, 442,181 Material, 10,310 Promethium

[ ] Population Pressure: Expand Hollin: Phase One
- [ ] Expedite
Cost: 29,040,000 Thrones, 4,573,000 Material, 5,311,000 Metal, 610,500 Promethium, 100 Advanced Material.
Cost: 29,040,000 Thrones, 4,573,000 Material, 5,311,000 Metal, 610,500 Promethium, 100 Advanced Material.

[ ] Repair Imperial Navy Escorts
Cost: 7,920,000 Thrones, 1,080,000 Material, 46,800 Promethium, 740 Advanced Material

Thrones Material Metal Promethium Advanced Material Food
Gross Income 93,009,636 33,835,608 13,913,886 6,630,414 515 1,158
Current Reserves 157,679,713 104,934,620 24,695,814 25,119,389 734 2,000
As you can see, we can afford to expedite Hollin if we think it's worth blowing 30 million Thrones on. The extra 100 Adv. Material we can easily absorb. It also costs quite a bit of metal, but still well below our income.

Nice omake, @BurnNote :) Maybe we'll get a morale boost for this or something.
I spotted a couple mistakes, mostly "Alfheim" being misspelled throughout, and there's a space missing in the first line ("Alfheim by").

Courtly manners so we can hopefully PA on diplomatic actions soon, I don't want banewolves but deathstrikes cost too much advanced materials. And taking both training AND equipment would be too expensive.

Population pressure needs to be alleviated ASAP.

Since we are training our militia to hell and back, I want to DD on the Ministorum. Similarly, I want the elite Admech troops before the imperium falls.

Lower Mass Alloy is something we can use, in lieu of expanding the forge for that shiny +40(+10 from current +30) to Admech rolls. it also has a decent chance, Trolls because we must do biology and ruins because the plan was to keep exploring them.

Psyker hunters are becoming a priority even for our advisors, that means we're running low on them, therefore, Witch Sniffers for the first batch and Constant recruitment: Psyker hunters.

Orphanages because our educational system is one of our greater sources of efficiency.

You might want to do some math there on Advanced Material costs. That is not affordable even without expediting. (Which honestly we don't need to do - some space should open up in the first year of the expansion, alleviating the pressure. Small hives can hold a billion people)

Also, might want to add a space there due to the smiley.

Ah, didn't notice deathstrike missiles cost advanced materials.

Still, I don't particularly want the bane wolves...

Meh, by lack of alternatives...

Edit: Also, the main reason I want to expedite the expansion is because I want to do Phase 2(defences) as soon as possible. Considering the wildlife and "The Calm" I do not think this is unreasonable.

Don't blow our precious Double Down action on a request for assistance. We have so many difficult research projects to do, and we're likely going to turn up more. (Also, we have quite a few contingents of priests on the planet already.)
