In this continuity, he was either resurrected later on (near or slightly past the Emperor's death) or not at all.
That said, I wonder what the various "immortal" characters are up to, like the Necron Phaerons, some Eldar Farseers, or the likes of Belisarius Cawl.
I think our greatest path to ruin would be arrogance. Given our ludicrously advanced navy, and ridiculously powerful army, we may come to believe ourselves the largest fish in the pond. The truth of the matter is that we simply aren't and won't be, especially not if the likes of the Krork and the C'tan rise up.
This makes me wonder more: what kind of stats would Abaddon the Despoiler have? I bet he's basically equivalent to a Primarch by now.
Wait, maybe the absurdly high stakes plot which is being strung up by Tzeentch will call forth Surt into helping us, perhaps even revealing his status as some fifty-thousand year old man who happened to be in a working relationship with Dr. Adam, and a friend of good man Ollie Persson.
