Important to remember that we should also to hallow out the chaff. No chaff, no protection for the important elements.

Ugh... sorry it took so long to finish. I've been a bit sick recently, and spent the last four hours alternating between vomiting and being too exhausted to do anything.

Any way, here is the final plan: https://forums.sufficientvelocity.com/posts/7860310/

Notable things:

1: I don't move ourselves to Salem, leaving that to Schwartz. Main reason I concluded that was that the benefits of staying in Dis near Ridcully are pretty large. Additionally, if Garkill does have a target in ming other than Salem, we ought to have someone outside Salem ready to respond to that.

2: Switched to major sally instead of pitched battle outside Yphax. Mainly because of concerns about Roks dropping on Yphax during the battle, which is actually very likely in my mind.

3: I distributed 40% of our cargo wings to the major cities soon to be under attack (Beirut, Lorien, Malea, Yphax). My thought here is that it's probable that the Orks will cut off the railway connections, and possible that we might repel the Ork attacks at one of these cities before the battles at some of the later cities (Casarrondo, Limberlost) begin. That would leave significant forces trapped in locations that they can not be used, unless we airlift them out.

This omake is set just before the incursion. I feel a certain future asset deserves to be off world ATM.

A man and a girl are sitting in the heart of a starship. They have a cat curled around them. They're the two most powerful known human psykers in the sector. The cat is the grandest and oldest of the phase tigers. Between them, they can level fortresses. The man and cat already have.

"Gerald, will it hurt?"

The man smiles warmly at the girl.

"The Fabricator general assures me, you won't feel a thing."

The girl, seemingly not assured by the man's statement, continues to question.

"Will it be cold? They're freezing me, right?"

"Not quite, 'Phelia. It's more like pausing time around you. We only have one of these pods, so you're very special to be put in it."

"I know I'm special Gerald. I'm more special than even you!"

A brief look of worry darts across Gerald's face.

"What's Mag Mel like anyway? Is it like the university? Dis?"

Gerald thinks. How could he explain the forge city to a child who had never visited one before. The shear magnitude of the industry inside, the strange, mechanicus dominated culture, the constant smell of scrubbed air. All that, and it was the child's first time in space.

"Is it scary Gerald?"

The man snaps out of his thoughts, and looks at her.

"For anyone trying to get to you it'd be the scariest place in the universe. For you, the safest."

Freezing Ophelia was a good idea. Even the girl herself thought so, though she did plea to be allowed to fight. Gerald still worried about it so much that he decided to be there every step of the way. If all went well, he could pick her up in a month, tops, and take her home.

"Captain O'Callaghan to the crew and passengers of his majesty's ship Winterspite. We will be docking at Mag-Mell and undergoing decontamination proceedings shortly. Gerald, please don't give me the headache of getting your bloody cat through control."

Ophelia looked worried, so Gerald, thinking quickly, picks up his communicator, then puts it down, realising he has a better way to do this. Grinning, he telepathically sends out a message to everyone aboard the ship.

"The cat arriving peacefully into Mag-Mel is our primary objective. Anyone found arguing about this is to file the objection directly to the governor. Pass my word onto anyone in the way."

Upon the bridge, everyone heard the captains face impact onto his palm.

I'm pretty sure we have more than one stasis pod. It was a rare but not unheard-of technology. We got all of Atlas' STCs, the Dark Age ships had stasis pods (note how reverse-engineering them wasn't an option - it was because we have the tech already), and any time stasis shenanigans have been suggested, Durin hasn't said that we lack for the necessary requirements. Stasis weaponry is a different story.

I thought Xavier was used because he crit failed his insanity?
The alpha is still a bit insane, you know, she will break if she's used like that.
I think Durin said he would roll for her overall sanity, Control usw. when she graduates?
The only thing we know for sure is that she was not corrupted or insane (not enough to make useless at least) by the time we found her.

The obvious thing would be some kind of Psy Suppressor.
Like a more humane Black Ship. If thats not an oxymoron.
I don't think the status chambers/psysupressors combination in itself is that bad. Pause the girl, then turn on the suppressors. You don't want her warp entity getting antsy while the girl sleeps. Alternatively, it could just be stuffed full of relics to bath her in the emperor's holy light.

Scotts supposed to be a genius and specialised in this kinda tech. She can come up with something that helps.

I'm not sure what you're arguing. Given that I say psy suppressors are attached to the omakes status chamer is a more humane version of the black ships then I'm clearly not arguing that the idea is bad.
When I suggested that Black ship might be an oxymoron to humane it was because the design is basically tie them up, throw them in the basement and if they're still sane on arrival then are worthy to be thrown on the bonfire.
I hope one of those explains where we've gotten confused.

I think I was speculating that the psi suppressors were unpleasant. I hope durin doesn't give us a negation to her sanity for this.

keeping her sane and relatively happy is a strategic goal of the state. I doubt anything worse than a bad headache when she wakes up would be considered acceptable.
