And the big tour is probably out as well. Sending her off with no emotional support so soon after all that trauma not good.

At least three years away. Plus, it's possible that distance and a change of scenery could be good for her. (Once over the initial grief of course).

The political situation with the marriage would be different, though. Syr is the heir now, period. The basis of our political marriage to Freya was one of her children inheriting our position so long as there was a competent one, and Syr is competent. So long as Syr lives and/or has her own children, that's the line which will inherit governorship of Avernus, and while the possibility of Syr dying before having children is there it still makes Rotbart less of a prize in terms of political marriages. There's our fief on Asgard, but IMO Syr's line should have claim on that as well since we wouldn't want our planet to lose political influence with Asgard from us having it.

Yes, although maybe this would be an opening to a less high level marriage. A political pairing with say Governor Garp's second cousin might be worthwhile to them even without a hope of inheritance.

Given she's 16, and she'd be 18 at the earliest for remarriage, that wouldn't really be a good argument as she'll be an adult. Also, Jane somewhat works for this without needing a marriage, I think.

Girls continue to be connected to their mother through puberty and the start of dating. After marriage, they actually often become even closer to their mother (I know that happened with both my sisters).

It's true that Jane will probably take on this role without us marrying her, but that isn't an argument against marrying Jane. In fact it argues (slightly) for marrying Jane to make it formal. If something develops between Jane and Rotbart over the next few years I think we ought to just go with it.

Nor would that be that unlikely. It's normal, and it happens all the time. I know a widower who remarried after about a year and a half. Who did he marry? His wife's best friend, who started getting very involved in his life because she became the mother figure to his two daughters.

That's all I'm pointing out. Everyone here is reacting with the "I will never love again" trope, and I'm just pointing out that that is actually rather uncommon as the response of most people. Sure, at first people feel that way, but after a year or two, people usually do love again.

Does Garp even have any family left? I mean I assumed he either killed the lot of them or they killed each other. Or joined Chaos. :D

It's true BTW, the more likely to remarry thing...

Honestly the more I think of this, the more likely it seems that something will happen with Jane.

[x] Enjou

Anyway, that shit happen and we now need to start recovering from it. This whole event was still a very "great" in terms of character development before hitting the five year turn mark. This is a very good example of grim and dark trope in that even the most powerful of people aren't totally safe from the dangers in 40k (homebrew or otherwise).

So bravo Durin, it shows that you have a made a world that people care about.

All the while we are rebuilding civilization.

Plan:

Military:

[X] Flying Fortress: A Soldiers View
Cost: 71,000 Thrones.

Doing this so we can get a Flying Fortress to go with the armies exploring new territory. That after all, is the prupose behind the flying fortress. This action, plus a three year Mechanicus action. That gives us space for the two year action to organize armies. Then after thatwith both slots open again we can get the Phasse Tigers.

Void:

[X] Expand Shipyards
144,000,000 Thrones, 21,600,000 Material, 10,800,000 Metal, 21,600,000 Promethium, 1,032 Advanced Material, 48 Exotic Material.
-[X] Expedite: Expand Shipyards
144,000,000 Thrones, 21,600,000 Material, 10,800,000 Metal, 21,600,000 Promethium, 1,032 Advanced Material, 48 Exotic Material.

Keep on plugging away at this...

Adminsitorum:

[X] Educational Reform
1,012,000 Thrones, 101,200 Material, 101,200 Metal, 10,120 Promethium.

Lets get this one going. We can do the Phase Tigers next year.

Diplomacy:

[X] Peace Treaty (Smooth Granite)
6,100,000 Thrones, 305,000 Material, 6,100 Promethium, 43 Advanced Material.

Arbites:

[X] Way of the Blade (Syr)

Definitely want Syr to spend more time with Jane. Plus this will give Syr a way to sublimate some of her grief.

Mechanicus:

[X] Try to complete STC fragment: Large Mobile Research Facilities Weapons
8,100 Thrones, 1,640 Material, 41 Metal, 10 Promethium.
[X] Detailed Survey (Defence Cruiser)
6,100,000 Thrones, 305,000 Material, 122,000 Promethium, 192 Advanced Material
[X] Flying Fortress: Design Part One
28,400,000 Thrones, 2,840,000 Material, 710,000 Metal, 284,000 Promethium, 860 Advanced Material, 9.6 Exotic Material.
Chance of Success: 20% (84% after bonuses)

Alright, lets get these two needed action out of the way. Also get the Flying Fortress ready for our exploration actions. We can spend the two free actions next turn exploring the Gravatic and Brute Command Battleships (since those are the two most likely to have intact data cores).

Ministoum:

[X] Grief Counselling (Syr)

I think we focus on Syr this turn, and focus on us next turn.

Telepathica:

[X] Research: Psychic Frequencies Part Two
6,100,000 Thrones, 61,000 Material, 610 Promethium, 860 Advanced Material, 96 Exotic Maternal
-[X] Double Down: Research: Psychic Frequencies Part Two
6,100,000 Thrones, 61,000 Material, 610 Promethium, 860 Advanced Material, 96 Exotic Maternal

Let's follow this through to the end.

Personal:

[X] Helping Syr Cope
[X] Coping
[X] Spend Time With Syr
[X] Tutor Syr (Combat)

Help Syr cope, try to cope ourselves. Spend time with Syr (which I bet has synergies with Coping), and Tutor Syr in Combat (to make sure Syr doesn't meet a similar fate).

I think these all fit together in to a thematic whole.

We should do both in the long run, but IMO Astropaths should come first because we don't know how long we'll have until they start dying off.

... Dust we are, and to dust we return.

To paraphrase a summary of funeral speeches quoted in Clear and Present Danger by Tom Clncy, "God-Emperor, we're sending a good woman back to you. We thank you for the time we got to spend with her."

Actually, this leads me to ask, has anyone here actually known widowers? I've known a few, but I'm getting the impression that no one else here has, and that people are substituting drama widowers for actual widowers.

Widowers - one.
He's the father to a couple of close friends I've known for most of my life (we've drifted apart over the past decade or so) and he's been good friends with my mother for longer than I've been alive. His wife died a couple of years ago, he's becoming more socially active hanging with friends etc, and nobody's even hinted at him remarrying or even looking because he's in his mid-seventies.

Widows - three.
My paternal grandmother, with whom I've lived most of my life along with my mother and my paternal grandfather. Pa died when Gran was sixty-three, we went to place flowers at his grave the anniversary of his funeral for the next ten years, and Gran never even thought of remarrying.

My maternal grandmother - her husband died when she was in her mid-seventies. Never remarried.

My mother - her husband died a few days before I was born ( Dad was driving Mum to the hospital for me to be born, the car was clipped by a truck and went off the road, Mum and I survived, Dad didn't). Never remarried, I've asked her several times if she ever thought about marrying anyone else, she told me she's never even considered it. She said she was focused on looking out for me and making sure I was well cared for and provided for. Her husband died when she was thirty-two, she's now seventy-seven.

So, small numbers, but those are the ones I know.
