We're going to need some kind of stop gap measure. Wonder if we can make Armed Merchantmen to help guard convoys. As a third line they're better than nothing and in groups (3 or more) can most likely take down a Escort class Raider or Pirates. If we have some sprinkled in our troop transports we could have bagged a few more Dark Eldar ships and made them more cautious in their attacks. I'm also going to vote that we expand our shipyards as much as we can over other projects. And as you mention about the warship option we should get that a few times as well.

We currently have no Raider problem to deal with. Smashing the Dark Eldar is being done specifically to prevent one from forming.

True but 30 Armed Merchantmen that we have on the battle field are better than 10 Cruisers still in their shipyards and not able to fight. I just want us to have that little bit more every time we make Merchantmen convoy so we don't have a bunch of unarmed targets the next time we're shifting troops. Side note but where is our trade and depths listed? I have a few ideas I want to put out there after we're done with the Dark Eldar but I need some more info than I got.

Go check the various datasheets linked on Pg 1 if you want that sort of info. Particularly "Local Systems".

Material and time cost. And honestly trying to use Table top rules get funky when you really have to think about how that is suppose to work. I agree about having a meeting to see were we want to go with our fleet. I'm for making Heavy's over Battles as we need the added survivability and numbers over a lesser number of glass jaw damage dealers. The Heavy's have also been said to be able to kill Battleships in groups like when three Murder classes destroyed the Relentless Persecution near the end of the Gothic War. We're going to need a number of Light Cruisers for patrols and the slightly cheaper cost of building them means we can pump out more. Do we want to make Regular Cruisers? The way I see it is we can have a standard Imperial Navy Battle Fleet with the Battle Cruisers being mostly replaced by more numerous Heavy Cruisers or we can have a Light Cruiser screen with Heavy Cruiser battle lines for no Mid weight Cruisers. There's merits to both sides but what do you guys think?

Edit: I forgot to ask, durin do we have a mothball yard we can start pulling parts or hulls from? If we can do something to shorten the time it takes between making Cap ships we have a chance to build up before the next hit.
no

I did. Couldn't find anything about say, how much we owe Svartalfheim or Vanaheim and which planet it was we had heavily indebted to us, think it was Midgard. If we knew who owes whom what we could do some debt juggling to call in the debt owed to us by having them help us pay off our debtors rather than us directly. Also with the amount of losses the Fleet has taken we need to see if we could put our debts on hold for a little bit to help rebuilt it.

just as a note only you and Vanaheim sent your navies to reinforce the Imperial Trust Navy, the rest of the navies, as small as they are will still be available (and a major portion of the combined fleets)

So no mothball yard. Can we get your definition on what makes a Cruiser a Heavy Cruiser and not a Regular Cruiser or Battle Cruiser?
heavier armor and weapons at the expense of speed, maneuverability ad cost while Battlecruisers sacrifice armor for speed and firepower and Cruiser are a balance between the three combat stat and made to be cheap and easy to produce

So Heavy Cruisers are more expensive but better in a slugging mach able to take and give out punishment and Battle Cruisers are fast and hard hitting but with a glass jaw?

The pre-battle total was
Warships: 2 Battleships, 6 Grand Cruisers, 34 Battlecuisers, 66 Cruisers, 66 Light Cruisers, 562 Escorts, 303 Defence Monitors, 3 Repair Ships, 36 Troop Transports*, 1 Goliath Factory Ship Current Trade ships: 356 Merchantmen, 21 Mass Conveyors
We took
2 Battleships, 6 Grand Cruisers, 1 Heavy Cruiser*, 24 Battlecruisers , 42 Cruisers, 40 Light Cruisers, 246 Escorts, 4 Mass Convoyers, 43 Troop Transports*, 225 Merchantmen
Leaving at least these at home
10 Battlecuisers, 24 Cruisers, 26 Light Cruisers, 316 Escorts, 303 Defence Monitors, 3 Repair Ships, -7 Troop Transports*, 1 Goliath Factory Ship, 131 Merchantmen, 17 Mass Conveyors

I'm pretty this is wrong but that's the numbers that were listed.
*saw this and had to ask if we took ships that were just built and therefore not on the sub-sector total? Or was it out of date?*

Just looking over the ship costs relative the Nine Worlds current income values.

Cost:
Battleships: (For reference, since 50 years away)
180m Throne (small, 4% of the Nine Worlds annual prod, 14% of Vanaheim - 0.8% of NW reserve),
5m Material (negligible, 0.3% of the NW p.a. Material Prod, 2% of Van - 0.04% of NW reserve),
72k Advanced Material (high, 29% of NW p.a. AM prod, 61% of Van - 3.4% of NW reserve),
300 Exotic Material, (very high, 26% of NW p.a., EM prod, 136% of Van - 6.9% of NW reserve),

Grandcruiser:
120m T (2.0% NW p.a.)
3.9m M (0.2% NW p.a.)
36k AM (14% of NW p.a.)
150 EM (13% of NW p.a.)

Heavy Cruisers:
75m T (1.8%)
3.5m M (0.19%)
24k AM (9.8%)
96 EM (8.5%)

Battlecruisers:
50m T (1.2%)
3.1m M (0.16%)
16k AM (6.56%)
64 EM (5.69%)

Upkeep:
Battleships:
375k Prom (0.2% of NW p.a. P prod)
720 AM (0.3% of NW p.a. AM prod)
6 EM (0.5% of NW p.a. EX prod)

Grandcruiser:
250k P (0.18%)
360 AM (0.14%)
3 EM (0.2%)

Heavy Cruiser:
180k P (0.13%)
240 AM (0.098%)
1.92 EM (0.176%)

Battlecruiser:
120k P (0.08%)
160 AM (0.06%)
1.28 EM (0.11%)

AM Costs:
72k : 36k : 24k : 16k
Grand cruiser:HeavyCruiser:Battlecruiser: 4.5:3:2
1 GC = 2.25 BC

EM Costs:
300 : 150 : 96 : 64
1 GC = 1.56 HC = 2.34 BC

Replacement cost of Fleet Losses at Fjol IV:
T = (5*120) + (24*50) + (20*35.2) + (40*26.4) + (137*4.4) = 4,162.8 million Thrones
M = (5*3.9) + (24*3.1) + (20*2.8) + (40*2) + (137*0.6) = 312.1 million Material
AM = (5*36) + (24*16) + (20*8) + (40*6) + (137 *1) = 1,101 thousand Advanced Material
EM = (5*150) + (24*64) + (20*32) + (40*24) + (137*4) = 4,434 Exotic Material

Replacement cost relative to Production and Reserves:
101.4% of p.a. Throne prod, 18% of NW reserves
17.1% of p.a. Material prod, 2.4% of NW reserves
451% of p.a. Advanced Material prod, 53% of NW reserves
395% of p.a. Exotic Material prod, 102.3% of NW reserves

From what I could pull up it's these two sections says it all.

So usually Regular and Heavy or Heavy and Battle Cruisers were the same thing just focused on armor over guns or with even more guns. If we are separating it out to Light, Regular, Battle, Heavy, and Grand Cruisers in that order by damage then here's my take.

Light: Lower armor and weapons for greater speed and maneuverability. Standard sized
Regular: Base line Cruiser level of all states.
Battle: Lower armor for greater speed and maneuverability at near Battleship level firepower. Over sized but not as much as a Grand Cruiser and cost less.
Heavy: Much greater armor and near Battleship level firepower for lower speed and maneuverability at Regular size.
Grand: Cruiser class armor and equal or greater than Battleship level firepower at Cruiser speed. Greatly over sized for cost half way between Battle Cruiser and Battleships.

This puts Heavy over Battle by being much more durable than the Battle but the Battle has closer to Light Cruiser speed and greater size for larger weapons (Nova cannon) at the cost of armor. Makes sense?

Hmm... thinking then over the primary targets of the Dark Eldar...

They seem to be going for our ships that are most likely to be able to operate independently and defend against raiders.

Something to think about.... might this not be the only Dark Eldar planet nearby?

Could they have terraformed other planets to serve as bases for raiders?

Well, aren't you a bag of sunshine and lollipops tonight? :p

They did get all of them, too. All of the light cruisers. Bad luck for anyone who knew anyone on a light cruiser...
