[X] Attack as soon a possible
-[X] Get all the Escorts upgraded with the new sensors and point defense systems before attacking, eschewing the other upgrades if needed to complete the upgrades in time for the attack.
[X] Support Aelfric for command of the ground forces

Gotta get there the fastest with the mostest.

Given the DE are Grand Master Trolls, any look they are presenting could possibly be a big trap, and we may find ourselves with Adrusabel Vect inviting Rotbart to witness the fire power of his fully armed and operational Battle Planet before it blows up our battleships... But nonetheless, this window of vulnerability we can exploit makes the most sense. We can't be squeamish about it, this is going to be rough. Hopefully mostly for someone else's troops.

And yeah, the more we can tempt the Dark Eldar into a set-piece knock down drag 'em out battle, the better off we will be. Eeexceeeept when it comes to fortified cities. The idea of running house-to-house clearance ops on a Dark Eldar city is ... well, being the day before Halloween seems appropriate.
Oh don't get me wrong, this is going to be a hellish campaign no matter what we do. And I suspect urban warfare with the DE on the defensive will give new meaning to the phrase "charnel house".

Its even worse as I imagine the DE are going to be positively giddy when they meet Avernite soldiers. And it won't be that difficult to find them I imagine, just look at the guys who just keep advancing.

I will say, however, that this is probably the war turn I'm looking forward to the most. DE are one of the factions in which heroics tend to get the most contrast, while your average IG and especially PDF are liable to route, you get to see others refuse to waver. I'm looking forward to seeing Avernites counter-assault a Horde of Homunculi and rally flagging forces, or fighting until annihilation to prevent other forces from being caught in an ambush. I guess I'm trying to say this has the potential to be Avernus' "Finest Hour" if you will, and depending on our performance, drive home more than anything else, what it means to be an Avernite to the rest of the Trust. Certainly wouldn't hurt our influence. Regardless of the heroics, I have no illusion as to how bad this is going to be.

If Durin says this works than;

Nova cannons may work but the Dark Eldar may have equally long ranged weapons, if you mean Vortex torpedoes then you do not have any
Do we need Enjou's subvote for the sensors and pds, or is it something we'll do in the normal turns before the attack?

A clever compromise.

This is the best of both worlds. It only takes one year, which is enough time to finish all of them, and is quick enough to prevent the Dark Eldar from finishing their defenses. The sensors and point defenses are the most important tech for defeating their regular ships - the sensors will find their ships for us, and the point defense will help prevent them from being able to board our ships or disable them with their power draining torpedoes by taking them down before they hit. Ideally I'd like the cruisers too, but they will take two years and we need to be faster than that. With the escorts relaying targeting data from their sensors, hopefully the Dark Eldar's advantages will be negated.

Indeed, and frankly the Escorts are the most important to upgrade, as the Cruisers are large enough to repel more boarders.

Waiting for the upgrades means that Vanahiem's economy will likely suffer at least minor damage, due to raiding.

sorry for the super sized text, just want to make sure people know the trade off!

The two upgrades to all the Escorts only takes one year as confirmed by the GM, which is in the desired timetable to attack.

Hmmmm @durin, do our advisors think that the Flying Fortress military variant would have been useful against the DE? Since its difficult to transport, would it have been transportable offworld?

@durin , a few questions
1. say if we reverse engineer the Land Speeder next turn, would one year be enough to at least equip a few regiments with them?

2. would an abbrievated Phase Tigers retraining/reequip with recon power armour be possible if we didn't train them all?

3. the same for a few battalions equipped with Raider or Destroyer power armour?

1. Not if you want people trained in their use
2. No
3. No

Phooey, so it would require three years minimum to train up more advanced power armour regiments, if not more to get a good unit composition for them.

Also looking over the forces being provided by the other planets, none seem to have an advanced power armour force beside us and Champion Surt, is that really only it for the advanced power armour usage?

Essentially, the GM is refusing our munchkinry. Fair enough imo, the strengths and weaknesses of both approaches have been clearly laid out, so durin doesnt want us trying to subvert that.

actually the Svartalfar Guard has units equipped with Destroyer Armour, with around 100 Destroyers per regiment

So about 8000 Destroyer, plus 700 Elites from us then.

How well trained are the Svartalfar Guard in first wave drop operations? There should be enough time to at least do some refresher training with us and the other planets.

averagely trained, they specialize in city fighting and tunnel fighting and their training focuses on this
