Tbh I'm surprised we're getting this spending point before the fight, I thought we'd have to earn Empowerment via combat first! Unless we're not actually able to spend the XP, but that would make basic Absorption and Distribution almost useless.. ?

I don't think we'll be able to spend the XP immediately, otherwise the odds of temporarily unlocking Eldritch & Seraph wouldn't have been emphasized:
therefore the odds that at least one of you gets an immediate benefit is doubled relative to Absorption.
The circumstances are admittedly atypical, but flash buying hasn't been possible thus far.

In that case, it's even more critical that we take the immersion options. A level 4 aspect added on top of our current capabilities is a much stronger benefit than a level 1 aspect. If you want to be ensure safety, immersion is the least greedy option available. The only reason you don't take immersion is to save SC for another opportunity, which is hoping that our conflict is solvable with a slight boost to our current power level.

No, we just... can't afford any of the Immersion options. We aren't even remotely close, so if Immersion is necessary to avoid death we'll just die. And I was fine with the plan that included Eldritch Immersion if possible and Distribution if not, but I don't trust the Penelope we've seen with the entirety of our success in the future, so can't countenance giving her a huge buff at our expense.

The two avenues are not either "death or life", there are a multitude of complications and injuries we could run into that are solveable with immersion and extremely costly to handle without. You discussed previously how dangerous you imagined this event is, it's strange to backtrack on that so suddenly as soon as there's an option you don't like that offers immediate power.

Sure, but like I just said... we can't afford it. So if it's the case that we're fucked without Immersion, we're probably just fucked. At least we took all the combat artifacts so we have the best chance we can get!

I haven't backtracked at all, I support Eldritch Immersion if we can afford it (or potentially my Angel Summoner writein if I do one). I've never supported buffing Penny and don't intend to.

Buffing penny is more immediate power than either options, since she wouldn't be shackled by immediate burnout in whatever altercation might arise. If we can afford either of them, we should take them. Ensuring our safety and lack of complications is paramount, to properly realize our gains. Even without the 1500-2200 xp from normal empowerment, we're still walking away 1600 xp richer with a trio of powerful artifacts and an ally committed to repaying the favor.

[X] Plan: Bother Later
-[X] Storage it. Save your energy for something more important, because even if you take it inside, you would be too tired to do anything afterwards.

These plans are all the same. Boring! So I would propose my own meaningless option, until something changes.

so, do you think Birdsie will refund our SC and Will if we do this, or what?
Some people just want to see the world burn.
Surely you could vote for plan S T O N K S, the premier protest plan?
It's the same Distribution plan, but with some funny wording.

Ensuring our safety is valuable, but is the increase worth an extra 10 SC? Rihaku's position seems consistent to me, and I don't actually think it's all that likely our next challenge is going to require us to generate another 5 SC and suddenly become twice as powerful as we currently are.

[X] Plan Wallet
-[X] Dual Immersion [30 Will, 12 Credit]
-[X] Eat a coffee jello. This is the situation where it would probably be a good reward for a job well done.

Hear me out, eldritch magic and spooky times, thank you for coming to my T̵̨̩̟̬̺̫͍̞͉͉͇̪̏̆̿́̔̓̀̈̅̉̐͜E̵̖͇̖̟̭͔̤̮͎͕̙͂̕̚͠D̸̜̰̯̭̞̫̬̱̦̘̽̆̆ talk

@Birdsie

Some additional clarifications may help improve plan diversity. If we know more details about what the options would entail in practice, we'd be able to present a clearer picture of the futures Sol's aiming for. Here are the chief questions forestalling analysis in my case -

1. How does the Eldritch Aspect stack with Arcanum for purposes of spellcasting, without Techniques? Is it effectively extra Arcanum levels in anything the symbiote can amplify? 0.5 levels? 2 levels?

1a. What if we focused the free Level 2 Technique on spellcasting boosts?

2. Does Seraph 4 grant Penny proportional quickness and reaction speed in addition to her spell-like abilities?

3. Do we get to spend the XP granted by Advanced Empowerment immediately?
-3a. If so do we also get to spend our stored XP immediately?

As a reminder to everyone in the thread, we do still have 2 weeks of a 3.5 SC modifier. Generating 7 sc with that benefit is more than reasonable (it's just 2 SC pre modifier).

I am now advocating for Bother Later as a preferable solution. This is because if we empower ourselves we will be out of will and SC in the coming conflict and thus will likely be funneled into worse options. If we conserve will we retain the possibility for empowerment, enhance our survivability, and potentially open more uses for the flask down the line.

I do have good news, however: I asked Birdsie and Sol did bring a packed lunch including any coffee jelly should we desire it. So that does mean we can not go into burnout - I would ask that the makers of the two identical plans please add such a caveat into your text to ensure we don't go into burnout.

1. Poorly, even less than .5, as most of its spellcasting utility comes from Techniques to channel the symbiote's own energy as your own. Eventually, yes, it can effectively improve your Arcanum levels.

1a. Sure, it'd give you a lot more fuel to work with - enough to raise your threat level moderately.

2. Yes, it has a physical element to it. She'd be slightly stronger than you with Eldritch, although slightly less durable.

3. No.

A shame that the most optimal option gets passed over for the big sparkly ones which will make gameplay the next few turns quite tricky. In fact, I'm massively euphemistic here.. Bankrupting our will and student credit will force us to play very conservatively the next few turns, spending most of sols time lazing around (with the eldritch abomination in our gut getting used to that and encouraging it even more in the future), the n when we have will back, spend that in order to make back some student credit. This is discounting the possibility that the huge fight we have in front of us will probably unlock some powerups we can pay for with student credit (as usual).

I get that huge empowerment is attractive, but it's not very conducive to our long term growth, since mutating us partly (or in spirit, at least) into an eldritch abomination is not very resonant with our role! The power of the magician is a human power, the power of understanding of reality becoming the skillful and practiced manipulation of reality. The eldritch is the completely opposite direction, finding power in the illogical, vast, unknowable-ness of the space beyond the human.

Storing the power instead secures it in a magicians way where we can study it, deconstruct it, make it into a principle we can apply.

As (seen) above, so (apply) below.

The magician is an engineer, not an axe-swinging barbarian. Instead of drinking the dragon's blood to gain its monstrous strength, we should gather it, study it, make it into a potion or infuse it into a tool.

Archimedes, not Heracles.

People are concerned about our ability to keep the container secret/safe. Also about imminent danger that distribution or Immersion may help with. The way I see it those are the two biggest concerns with a storage plan.
