If power weapons are hard/expensive to build would officers be the best choice wouldn't they be better in the hands of the ones likely to see the kind of fights you need power weapons for?

In terms of vatborn, does this mean there will be a cultural difference between the varborn navy and the natural born army? And will the legion count as vatborn or natural born?

It actually makes sense the vatborn have no family other than each other so it stands to reason they would form familial bonds with each other. The natborn on the other hand already have family so they are less inclined to form more familial bonds.

It is like the Clone Troopers of Star Wars their family are their brothers.

This is gonna make quite the interesting contrast for Astartes.

We will be home growing them to inflate our numbers.

Was there any other legion or chapter that did such things legally and wholesome Ly?

I don't think it was a matter of legality, but more a matter of capability. I don't think even Guilliman had made his own astartes before Big E found him. We are going to have an double divide within our legion. We will have our vat and natborn locally and then we will have the half of the legion that Big E made.

The vatborn are not wholesome, we are creating people, skipping their childhoods and soft-locking them into the militery with incentives and by just not giving them the opportunity to develop civilian social skills and knowledge. We don't even have an excuse anymore about needing the numbers. At best we have adopted a very grey practice out of pure choice not neccesity.

When the Federation started the process, it very much did need it. Either that or conscription, which was why there was a whole vote about which one to take.
Don't think that's being contested. Nat is putting questionmarks as to why the program is going to be continued. At first it was a necessity to keep the fleet manned, but that crisis is over. You've also mentioned that we've got more then enough volunteers coming in to keep the ranks filled, even if the final decision on the vats hasn't been made yet.

The mention that the Vatborn will have a place in the Legion/SS program pretty much means the Feds are going to keep the Vats running for dubious reasons, given the whole "born and bred for the Armed Forces" thing.

Are we going to stop creating vatborn and the fimilial supersoldiers only being from a finite pool?

That is still an ongoing debate within the Federation on the subject. There are plenty of people in parliament and high command pushing for that, but they are receiving backlash from the existing vatborn.

I think Vat Born are likely to still be a thing for cultural reasons. As in it's being going on long enough that for many people it may just be normal. Just look at the Vatborn who was born in that culture. To them imagine that many wouldn't see it as that big an issue since it would be normal to them. Especially since we made it a point to treat them well.

Also imagine that a lot of Vatborn may be born so that other Vatborn could raise them as children of their own. Since they themselves were Vatborn many may just feel more comfortable having other Vatborn to raise as children of their own. In fact that could be a major reason for why the Familiar options works here while there would still be the professionals.

Same reason why Astartes are still made even with how hellish the recruitment and the making is and the non-existence of insurance and retirement with the literally motto of "only in death duty ends" beyond just the need for super soldiers.

Another reason that Vatborn could still be happening is that it could like with Astartes those modified with Drake's genetics can't reproduce normally, hence why they use Vatborn to reproduce. And since the new soldiers are going to be part of the Federation and likely be involved in Navy stuff can see Vatborn raising generations of their own on Ships. Which already did happen in canon W40K with naval families having the career path be something that ends up being passed on to their kids who want to follow in their parents foot steps.

Probably not
The vatborn themselves dont mind

"Almost right," Miles said with a new smile blooming on his face. The smile turned his face into a grotesque mask thanks to the burn scar. "But not completely right. The difference between them and us is that they choose this life. We don't. When we leave the training, we know that our purpose in life is war; in theory, we could leave the military, but only if the Federation allows it. And that would require that the threats we face grow fewer in number and wouldnˋt immediately increase at a concerning frequency. Most of us will die before we have a chance for another life. Where novats might break over this knowledge; for us, it gives us resolve. They have families and a life outside the military. We've got the military, our duty to the Federation that gave us life. Our priorities are sitting opposite from each other. This gives us a strength they will never know."

"You mean because only a few of us have founded our own families?"

"Partly, yes. But mostly because we know that our lives are owned by the Federation and will be spent in its defense. That isnˋt something bad, the Federation gives us a good life, but they hate that they are forced to do it. Yet they don't understand that we give our lives gladly to protect them. This is our purpose in life. What better way to die than to fulfill your purpose simultaneously? Their inherent weakness is one of our strengths."

Abstract suffering comes from frustated desires
Someone that wants to be free but is slaved suffers
Someone that wants love but is single suffers etc

Your average human dislikes slavery because they long for self determination, because we can choose and change our careers

Vatborns dont have the same desires or mentality than your average joe,so they dont suffer over the same issues or in the same degrees

Many people commit abuse to other species through "humanization",in wich in a misguided attempt to be kind they treat a different species like ot has the same needs as a human while neglecting its actual species needs

Clothes on animals that overheat them is a easy example

Dont make the mistake of doing the same to vatborns
They are a sub-especies/branch,this means they have their own unique sets of needs and behaviors as result of their design and to actually inclusive of them you gotta see issues from their perspective rather than try shoehorn a foreign perspective on them

Inmorality to me comes from either forcing someone (this means ignoring their choices and supressing them)

But vatborns free choice isnt being supressed or ignored, they are just like that from birth they themselves acknowledge amd have made peace with it

[X] Knightly. The super soldiers of the Federation have styled themselves after the ancient knightly orders of old, both organising themselves as a military order and acting like one.
[X] Necrons. Drake proves himself against a hostile Necron dynasty that awoke along the Federation's border, successfully crushing their unyielding fleets and then destroying their tomb worlds.
