Terrene Spire - Gently ended.

Let's not use the Phylactary-esqu coffin as a shield, eh?
Obviously what we do is get positively swollen with ecto goo, possess the coffin, the mountain around the coffin, and some other doodads as required, and then with our new sweet body we put that bastard deep in our core, chock full of defenses, and then we'll be invincible.

There's no way this can fail.

If someone has enough firepower to level a mountain, it's not going to help much in keeping our coffin safe.

And if we get to that point in the first place, I think that's the sort of firepower we'll be seeing.

Nah man, you ever get into a fist fight with a mountain? Mountain wins. That's a 9/1 matchup in favor of the mountain.

By the time we've gotten enough level-ups to posses the whole damn mountain, the strategy won't be viable, and we'd probably have already murdered everything on the planet like eight times over.

You guys are taking what is clearly a joke remarkably seriously.
Wait, you weren't taking the discussion of turning our happy-go-lucky ghost adventurer into an actual, physical mountain seriously? Whyever not? :p

For real though, very interesting update! It seems like the Professor has run into a common scientific problem: explaining the science to outside people. In the real world, this is a huge problem for quantum physicists, for example, and this soul-stuff seems pretty close to that level of wackiness. It's really cool how that parallel just occurred naturally!

From my interpretation of what Satsuma Klog said, I would say that at the moment of death, the information that defines you at that moment (abilities, memories, etc.) is imprinted on the ectoplasm. The ectoplasm then turns into energy, probably in the form of electromagnetic radiation (or just magic), and it returns to the Sarcopholeum, which interprets that information and uses it to make a new ghost body.
This is different from a soul, which presumably would be separate from the body and would just naturally carry that information around with it all the time.

I would be down with that since always better to avoid attacks rather than tanking them.
It´s worked pretty well so far, though some GRIT would not go amiss either. We´ve already encountered attacks we couldn´t evade.
Aand also upon dying, if you're killed so hard you just die instead of letting the body take the hit, the sarcapholeum is still destroyed, as the body is ruined along with the self for death to happen...
I expected as much, and think in fact this was explained to some degree earlier in our adventures.

So, the tutorial looks to finish soon. Best get Daeva back around, maybe ask a couple final questions and proceed with our self-assigned mission.

It occurs to me that the "trousers of time" metaphor makes pants magicians insanely powerful.

Something that occurs to me. The tutorial explained how the reincarnation process works for Ghosts...

But we're not EXACTLY a Ghost. Daeva himself noted that we're something different, I believe.

It occurs to me that the "trousers of time" metaphor makes pants magicians insanely powerful.

All magic is insanely powerful - you just have to know how to use it. It's like airbending - you've got air magic. If you didn't know any better, you'd think that's kind of a rubbish power. But then you make a hurricane, whip the air right out of someone's lungs - and boom. Most feared magician ever - until someone comes along with some other magic and does something even more hyperlethal/impressive.

It's like Skitter and her bugs. Supposedly useless against someone who is physically impervious to damage - so drown them in webbing instead. Seemingly useless power, but you really just have to know how use it right.

Spectrum Shatters and there were White.
They saw their lands shatter, it broke open and devoured them from below. They fell and they fell and when they finally hit the ground, only a few were left to tell of the above. Here their followers came to them and they saw them as queens and goddesses. The immortal empresses who fell from shattered heaven.

Then the first was slain and the war began. White saw little of the actual conflict, living in the lands of their friends and learning how to rule them, as asked and wanted of their followers. White carried with them secrets and powers from above, and in unison they all grew strong. Then heaven shattered again and a deep black lightning rained in. The Black met the White and the two joined together. Living underground, their followers now had two kinds of goddess and their joy rang through their lands.

Together massive doorways were made. White knew of distance and of gates, Black knew of structure and strength. The Roads still travelled today were made in secrecy.

When heaven shattered for a third time, the pieces to fall were red, goddesses shattered, devil rules now."
-Piece of the Spectrum Lotus.

"CARRY THEIR WILL. CARRY THEIR GRACE. THEY CAME FROM ABOVE, WITHOUT PAST OR TRACE. WE FOLLOWED THEIR FOOTSTEPS WE LEARNED THEIR WAYS. THEIR VOICES RANG WITH CLARITY AND CASE. THEN WE WERE PUNISHED, OUR KIND A BROKEN RACE. WE BOW. WE BOW. RED LIGHTNING BRINGS ONLY DISGRACE."
-Tarboil Chant.

Spectrum Shattered and there was Black. The Black faction is unusual among the ghost factions in that there is only one ghost in this faction, a ghost named Umbra Noir. As the only Black Ghost that has ever existed, he contains the power of an entire color in the body of one ghost, and as a result is almost unimaginably powerful. His shell is a completely pitch-black mannequin wearing a suit and tie, and he walks with a cane, the only sign of his advanced age. Even ghosts can age after going enough time without reviving, their ectoplasm beginning to shrivel without the renewal of their faction's sarcophagus. This makes him rather weak in terms of physical ability, though he makes up for his with fearsome darkness and shadow manipulation powers, shields of black magic, and the unusual ability to leech the life force from attackers. He carries his surprisingly light coffin everywhere he goes.

Umbra, despite his color having connotations of darkness and death in the eyes of non-ghosts, actually isn't that bad a person. He is known to be cordial and polite, and is a master of staying calm even in the most desperate situations. He tends to use his life-leeching powers to eliminate foes non-lethally, putting them into a short coma. It's perhaps because of his serene nature that he hasn't turned into an Eishalon yet, despite being alive for over 10,000 years without interruption.

However, he does have his flaws. After thousands of years of continued success, he has begun to become overconfident in his powers. He tends to underestimate his opponents, which once resulted in his sarcophagus being critically damaged. Furthermore, after meeting thousands upon thousands of ghosts that not only conformed to type, but all wanted to kill him simply for not belonging to their faction, Umbra has grown suspicious and distrustful of all other ghosts, even abridging his "non-lethal takedown" rule for them, since they can just come back from the dead. Zest will have a hard time allying with this curmudgeon, and if he doesn't choose his words carefully, he could get a shadowy tendril through the chest.

To add to this, while Old Man Noir still retains much of his cordial charm, something has been eating away at him. Namely, his days are numbered. Remember when I said that his sarcophagus was critically damaged? That was the result of a massive Red assault on his faction stronghold, the Palace of Night, 500 years ago. The Red soldiers, while individually weak compared to his magical might, were a force to be reckoned with in large numbers. They managed, after sustaining massive casualties, to drive him away from his own fortress, forcing him to teleport out of the area. With the Palace of Night at their mercy, they burned the elegant building to the ground. HIs sarcophagus was the only thing that survived the blaze, and it was damaged to the point where it was doubtful it could handle another revival. With his stronghold burnt to the ground, and a damaged sarcophagus, Umbra has been roaming the world, searching for something, anything that can fix the Black faction's sarcophagus. Eventually, his ectoplasm will degrade into nothing, and his halo will lay on the ground, silent. And that's if something else doesn't do him in first; while he may be the most powerful single ghost, there are things more powerful than even him.

The rest of the world waits in terror for Noir to finally give up his fruitless quest, for if he does, the Eishalon that will be born will eclipse all others in power to such an extreme degree that it could threaten the entire planet.
Yeah, what I am trying to say is that Noir can't be the only member of Black faction to ever exist due to already established canon lore. There is also the part about white and black being good friends that the Noir lore piece ignores. Just wanted to draw attention to this fact in case it wasn't caught already.

It's an already spun off alt-daros.

yeah as Archeo says, this is not canon, or an alternative daros as he says. Just cause they won with this entry doesn't mean this is the character they make for terrene spire. They won the monster category, making a creature that inhabits the world of Slagmar, not specifically this character becoming canon!

I appreciate the worry Marlin, but everything is A-Okay!

Got it.

Holy shit Klog does not mess around when explaining stuff.

Also was not aware Klog himself was a ghost that simply possessed a fruit like body like we possess crystals.
