I wonder if this will end up connecting back to worm somehow.

DOOM doesn't really allow much room for Taylor to do Taylorish stuff like escalating or munchkinning. DOOM basically defaults to maximum escalation and its linearity doesn't leave much room for unintended shortcuts.

Also not having any other human or human like person to interact with will drive her more nuts than she already is.

Will Taylor perhaps be returned to the locker if she manages to play though the 'game'?

Great to see this has it's own thread now.

Now that we know Taylor respawns, I'd like to see her return to Bet. We all know how Hell is going to go. Ever escalating rage until the demons finally just show her the portal home with sincere apologies and/or begging her to please go home and leave at least something left intact in Hell.

The reactions of the inhabitants of Earth Bet however will be . . . entertaining. :D

I'm just wondering how long even an author on the level of MP3.14 (and believe me, I love their work, and am feverently waiting for more Honor of the Regiment) can keep things interesting with an ever repeating DOOM run, before finally letting her go back to Earth Bet.

Does original Doom I ever explained what happened? Or more like "there is a demons, take this shotgun"
From shareware Doom 1.8's readme.txt:

You're a marine, one of Earth's toughest, hardened in combat and trained for action. Three years ago you assaulted a superior officer for ordering his soldiers to fire upon civilians. He and his body cast were shipped to Pearl Harbor, while you were transferred to Mars, home of the Union Aerospace Corporation.

The UAC is a multi-planetary conglomerate with radioactive waste facilities on Mars and its two moons, Phobos and Deimos. With no action for fifty million miles, your day consisted of suckin' dust and watchin' restricted flicks in the rec room.

For the last four years the military, UAC's biggest
supplier, has used the remote facilities on Phobos and Deimos to conduct various secret projects, including research on inter-dimensional space travel. So far they have been able to open gateways between Phobos and Deimos, throwing a few gadgets into one and watching them come out the other. Recently however, the Gateways have grown dangerously unstable. Military "volunteers" entering them have either disappeared or been stricken with a strange form of insanity--babbling vulgarities, bludgeoning anything that breathes, and finally suffering an untimely death of full-body explosion. Matching heads with torsos to send home to the folks became a full-time job. Latest military reports state that the research is suffering a small set-back, but everything is under control.

A few hours ago, Mars received a garbled message from Phobos. "We require immediate military support. Something fraggin' evil is coming out of the Gateways! Computer systems have gone berserk!" The rest was incoherent. Soon afterwards, Deimos simply vanished from the sky. Since then, attempts to establish contact with either moon have been unsuccessful.

You and your buddies, the only combat troop for fifty million miles were sent up pronto to Phobos. You were ordered to secure the perimeter of the base while the rest of the team went inside. For several hours, your radio picked up the sounds of combat: guns firing, men yelling orders, screams, bones cracking, then finally, silence. Seems your buddies are dead.

It's Up To You

Things aren't looking too good. You'll never navigate off the planet on your own. Plus, all the heavy weapons have been taken by the assault team leaving you with only a pistol. If only you could get your hands around a plasma rifle or even a shotgun you could take a few down on your way out. Whatever killed your buddies deserves a couple of pellets in the forehead. Securing your helmet, you exit the landing pod. Hopefully you can find more substantial firepower somewhere within the station.

As you walk through the main entrance of the base, you hear animal-like growls echoing throughout the distant corridors. They know you're here. There's no turning back now.

Well, that probably depends on whether Taylor actually gets into learning the SCIENCE! behind all her gear, the local computer systems, CAD/CAM systems, and starts actually modifying her gear/creating new gear instead of just using what she found.

SCIENCE! could be very entertaining... and would render her a greater threat to Endbringers and Scion himself, particularly inter-dimensional SCIENCE!

Assumes she has the knowledge to learn it, or can find enough about it to learn the science behind the tech.

Well, it was a Research base, so if she digs around there are probably a bunch of research notes and files somewhere in the facility. The main question will be how many respawns will it take before she feels comfortable enough to do more than just learning the best way to collect survival gear and kill things. One must prioritize, after all. :cool2:

It agreed with her own impressions that the things got more vicious and dangerous the deeper she went.
So why go there? I mean, she doesn't really have a lot of choice but to go somewhere, but I it seems there's a bit of a lack of explanation for why she exactly she's specifically going there.

Ah, but the notes will likely assume a certain degree of knowledge and skill that she may very well not have, and that Earth Bet college professors might not have, but is common knowledge among their peers.

A full research library is probably equipped with at least one copy of Halliday & Resnick or Feynman Lectures, including the body of learning from there up. The reason is simple, sometimes you need to recheck something fundamental in areas you didn't touch for years, and sometimes you branch out from earlier works. Hell, my own experience in computing science pretty much states that you're going to find your problem at least talked over in 1960 and possibly solved then for certain values of n, and it's going to be bloody useful to recall that stuff when solving for bigger n. Consider that just pathfinding basics that are pretty much required to be covered for any advanced algorithm will talk about 1968 (A* algorithm) and 1959 (Dijkstra's algorithm). When you build on the shoulders of giants, you tend to take the giant's work with you less you forget something and it all crumbles again.

Dear Mp3.1415player,
Wow. This is all kind of indescribably awesome. Taylor is stuck on Mar (where Hell has decided to visit) and has plenty of demons ready to volunteer to help her with her anger issues. Four and a half billion years later...
The real question is what are her powers. She can memorize things easier then normal (the instruction manuals ) and has sort of the oposite of the Gamer Power (where she is always filled with rage instead of calm). Also, I can't help but wonder what was on all those futuristic USB drives she found in the original stash where she appeared. Do they contain information about who stashed all these goodies (and possibly what happened here), backups of VEGA, or are they Preator Chips she can use to upgrade her suit?
As always, thank you for letting us read your work and I can't wait to read more of it.
Sincerely
John
PS. Could Taylor's dad be doom guy? If so, according to rumored lore, then she is related to BJ Blazkowicz and Commander Keen (BJ's Grandson).

From the same chapter.

Right down at the bottom was a section that was described as the high security research area, with a part off to one side labeled 'experimental dimensional transport lab.' That sounded like it might, possibly, be something she could find a clue to how she'd got here in.

All I want to know is... what exactly is Taylor's power?
Is she slowly becoming the Doom Woman?
And if so if she Second Triggers will it upgrade to Doom Slayer?
Will one of her PHO tags be "Literally Too Angry To Die"
And on a scale of 1 (which is perfectly rational) to 10 (which is SO ANGRY KHORNE SHEDS MANY TEARS OF LIQUID PRIDE) just how fucked will Taylor's headspace be?

More like on the scale she will be at 12 " The level at which KHORNE is trying too hide in the corner, crying in fear."

So when she get to that dimension teleporter at the bottom of the facility is she going to get back to Bet, or end up in Hell and have to fight her way through to the end where she force feeds some rockets to the Icon Of Sin?

From the same chapter.
Thanks. It feels kind of nitpicky to even mention this, but I've run into a number of stories lately where the central, direction-giving motivation is only given in a short, three-line footnote like this, and it always feels a bit like it should have been more front and center than it is.

Well, part of it is also my own fault. I don't really get to read much anymore except late at night. My reading comprehension is kind of shot by then.

I wonder if the DOOM Taylor would get along with another incarnation. The Goddess of Explosions is an incarnation of all things that explode in the same way that DOOM Taylor is turning into the very personification of RAGE. I imagine they would bond over the exploding and maiming of demons quite well. 😅
