Taking the Mickey: A Save Disney Quest

So... I found something interesting...

In 1980, Adams began attempts to turn the first Hitchhiker's novel into a film, making several trips to Los Angeles, and working with Hollywood studios and potential producers. The next year, the radio series became the basis for a BBC television mini-series[29] broadcast in six parts. When he died in 2001 in California, he had been trying again to get the film project started with Disney, which had bought the rights in 1998. The screenplay got a posthumous re-write by Karey Kirkpatrick, and the resulting film was released in 2005.

and... John Cleese, Eric Idle, and others are in Los Angeles... Graham Chapman is still alive.

Hugh Laurie kinda looks like Arthur Dent if you squint, and maybe his friend could narrate a certain text.

Thoughts, not necessarily Disney but...?

Guys, we're Disney. The only reason not to build a hotel that's at least Big Medium is because the lot doesn't allow for it. We should probably plan for a Large or Huge Value Hotel, or maybe a moderate.

Personally I'd go with a large or huge value, depending on what the location's max size allowed. By the time it's ready the recession will probably be over anyway.

We should go large, value and put it right near Disney Marketplace, maybe give hotel goers half off meal coupons if you are staying at the hotel. I don't think now is the time for a futuristic hotel next to EPCOT, but... more value the better. Just because the board reduced our goal doesn't mean we should have small hotels. Eventually we will need that capacity, and we'll be thanking our foresight.

Now the question is what kind of hotel, besides Value? Should we go for something like 12 stories tall? or go for more of an Animation Adventures type deal? or perhaps something in between? Also let's pull up the chart again...

So Monorail is now a free action. We also have a free Legend of Zelda Action next turn too. We also thanks to omake muted some recession effects, and got a bonus for planning for it. Not sure if Slynnwen said we got a new Movie action or not (and whether tthat is another new action option or a free movie action). Free Fantasyland action for the next two turns. We are also due for a Nintendo advisor...

Also @Slynnwen posted this prospective list

So I guess since we are waiting for next turn... Does anyone have ideas for what the second EPCOT attraction should be, besides Wonders of Life?

Not sure about a ride for Epcot but I wanted to suggest something. Considering we have a Free action for Legend of Zelda I was thinking we could integrate it into Fantasyland by replacing one of the rides, specificaly "Sleeping Beauty Castle Walkthrough" as at this moment has only 35% popularity (Although it has 99% reliability).

We could make it like a very interesting ride, replacing it by Hyrule Castle, with Link having to fight against enemies and solve puzzles in order to move from room to room. Or something like it, I'm just throwing ideas here.

Also, guys, floating an idea: Laserdisc releases? Our films are definitely going to be pushing the boundaries of film quality, and VHS just can't handle it. I know it's not a popular medium right now, but it's the best option for audio and visual fidelity. Maybe in a year or two?

Isn't that the ride that is under the castle?

While Sleeping Beauty's Castle does need an upgrade, I think that replacing the iconic center of the park that is also the literal symbol of our corporation with another company's intellectual property might not be the best move. If we want to spruce it up, taking a page from Tokyo Disney's tour may not be a bad idea.

I guess I got too excited with the idea of using Zelda in the parks. Well, let's see what else we can do with the franchise then.

I think it's a decent idea. We wouldn't replace the castle just put something under it. If people don't want Zelda then what about Black Cauldron? It's the current scary Disney property. The attraction does pretty well in Japan.

It's not a bad idea considering Black Cauldron became a way bigger deal in our timeline, being not only the first Disney animated picture with Eisner at the helm, but also the first to be nominated for an academy award. The Mystery Tour has a proven formula behind it, and it's one of the few rides that's aimed towards a somewhat older demographic, meaning it'd probably have legs as children reared on Disney movies start growing up.

I'm just not sure now's the time to be doing major construction on the castle when we have other big priorities.

You're right. There is a recession on.

Does anyone have ideas for what the second EPCOT attraction should be, besides Wonders of Life?
Given that you've started working on The Living Seas...

Also, @Firebringer2077 , if I'm not mistaken, you have two advisor bonuses/questions if you want to ask them.
The Glory of Kingdom Hearts (A 2017 reveiw)
+2d6 to eventual Kingdom Hearts TV shows, +10 to eventual Kingdom Hearts Game/Movie quality rolls.

Also something I've been wondering @Slynnwen just to confirm but does Steve Burke's -5 each turn to relationship affect Eisner as well?
Yes. Eisner already has the board reminding him about cost overruns every quarter, he doesn't need (or want) Steve doing so as well. Steve knows when he's pushing too far (hence the 'floor' part of the ability), but he's still somewhat abrasive, even at the best of times.

I'll ask about Sklar's bonus

also a question about the mechanics that go into a park / new gate reception in a new market. The reason I'm asking is that I am hoping to make sure Lille is a success, and I feel more of an understanding of these mechanics will help us plan and avoid pitfalls.

if this is a bit too much for a question I'll take Cooke's track instead

Currently Unrevealed Sklar Bonuses:
-15 to one DC that is not a per-success DC per turn. (25 bonus)
1 free action that is not a per-success action per turn. (50 bonus)
Double all imagineer bonuses in his area, doubled bonuses may exceed caps on bonuses. (100 bonus)

Reception is a track from -10 to 10, with various actions (or lack thereof) adding or taking away points. In Lille, for example, the various levels of learning French can add up to three points, and how successful Asterix park is to the south may take away points. A -10 ensures a terrible reception, a positive 10 an overwhelmingly great one. Everything else rolls a d100 with a bonus or malus of 10x the track value. For Lille specifically, right now you're at +1, with a -2 (learned no French), +1 (bringing jobs), and +2 (Disney enjoys great PR). OTL Disney had a great many missteps, and I'd rate them anywhere from -8 to -10.

In other news, turn 7 is theoretically ready for posting, as it's all up in a google doc. If I don't get the access to a computer needed to bring it to SV by 9 or so tonight, I'll link the google doc so people can start planning, although the vote won't open until it's actually brought over to SV in full.

Let's learn French and take a vacation in france so we can also hopefully learn the culture and the language, and reduce stress.
