Taking the Mickey: A Save Disney Quest

Good news, though, is that Disney mitigating the economic effects of a recession improves their performance, which indirectly improves the economy. We're doing our part! *Starship Trooper smile* ...Oh crap, we own Touchstone! I can't wait for 1997.

Each turn during a recession, you can take an action that automatically succeeds to reduce the penalty level that applies that turn by up to two levels. The penalties look like this among the mechanics already revealed:

Minor Recession: +5 to all DCs, including per success ones.
Average Recession: +10 to all DCs, including per success ones.
Major Recession: +20 to all DCs, including per success ones.
Depression: +50 to all DCs. No per success actions may be taken.

well, that means that up to average recession our only real penalty is an action per turn to remove the penalty. Even a major recession only comes with the action and the +5 DC, which is not too bad.

Depression is fucking scary, but we can get around the worst of it with the dedicated action, even if the +10 is still very annoying and it's certainly a strong incentive against taking "per success" actions.

@Slynnwen is the automatic success ALWAYS a "reduce penalties by two levels", or can it sometime be just one?

On the nature of the hotel, guys, I would definitely advocate for the inclusion of a pool. Just standard hotel fare, universal appeal.

[x] Plan Alternate Grand Floridan
-[X] Main Street USA
-[X] Monorail Station
-[X] Golf Connection

Standard Grand Floridan does have a pool - it's just outdoors, sans sauna or hot tub.

I know right! I started the Alternate Grand Floridan vote to give it an upgraded pool, but the other plan's got momentum now. Oh well.

You know we do have the option of making it slightly bigger to gain more points to play if we are okay with it taking longer to build...

This hotel is going to be a project that lasts about two years, at least, maybe three, either way. The recession will probably be done by the time it's finished.

There is a part of me that wants to say fuck it and go all out and take all of the options. After all if we're going to build a Grand Floridian hotel then we should build a GRAND Floridian hotel.

I did have an idea for what Hotel2 should be that we could build. How about the Hyperion Hotel. A some 600 to 700 room hotel east of the entrance of EPCOT and in front of Universe of Energy if looking from EPCOT's entrance. The gimmick of this hotel is tO be the hotel of future. Pool on the Roof, with Solar panels, atriums and curved modern style exterior, and cram in enough gadgets and gizmos to be billed at the Futuristic Hotel for Future World, heck we could even perhaps integrate a peoplemover system in EPCOT that uses the Hotel for a stop, and we could expand that system when the time comes for Hotels around Crescent Lake or if we want to expand the World Showcase instead. Something like this,

Just floating an idea to see what people think.

Omake: Questions regarding Disney's Halloween Party

Hi, I'm a proud mom of two lovely angels! We were planning to go to Magic Kingdom this year, when I noticed that they're running a Halloween event at the same time we're visiting. Now, I know that my kids will love the Trick or Treating part of it, but I still need some clarification before we decide to go:
  1. Does the Halloween event ticket let you come in during regular hours?
  2. Would the mazes be too scary to take my kids in (for context, one's six and the other's eight)? If so, is there a child swap for the mazes or something like that?
Best answer:

Before I say anything, I have to apologize for the other comments. A lot of people on here don't seem to think there might be people who aren't famillar with theme parks.

First, daytime admission is separate, sadly. However, they should start letting people in for the party about an hour early and all the major rides operate the same as regular hours, so you shouldn't have to worry to much about missing out on stuff if you don't go during the daytime.

For your second question, what can be considered too scary depends on what the child can handle. Generally, the horror level of the haunted houses is about the same as the Haunted Mansion, so if they can handle that, they should be fine. They do have play areas around the house locations, just in case, though. Glad to see you're not completely dismissing the houses, though, like some parents. I would personally recommend Villains Grove; it's positively gorgeous and it never fails to disappoint.

Other answers:

lol this b**** hasn't heard of disney's halloween party

Girl, if you're considered about the mazes being too scary, check out Halloween Horror Nights at their Studio park. That will make you s*** your pants, wimp.

Read the f***ing official site, you dumb cow.

And here we see the Tourist Mom in here natural habitat, bumbling around like the dumba** she is.

Moderator: Alright, now that the question has been answered properly, this thread has been locked and y'all are banned.

To all the Tourist Moms out there reading this, I am so sorry for that last bit.
This made me laugh! But if I may give some mild constructive criticism, I think the omake would be better with a couple "middle of the road" responses between swearing troll and helpful/informative/polite. Our own internet posting experience is a spectrum between the worst and the best, after all, hm?

He's actually worse then Katzenberg. At least with Katzenberg we can stop relationship degradation if we reach the right threshold, with Burke it just always happens regardless.
The difference is that Katzenberg will keep going indefinitely, while Burke will stop at +5.

I dunno. That is honestly what I generally see when I go to those various "ask a question" sites. The only thing missing is the one person who is trying to be helpful but doesn't know how to spell or use proper capitalization and very clearly doesn't know what they're talking about.

Omake: The Top Eight Zelda Moments
Omake: The Top Eight Zelda Moments

The Legend of Zelda series has been a staple of the Disney channel for decades now, with each new incarnation bringing just that bit more to an already enthralling franchise, and if rumors are to be belived, even now the adaptation to Breath of the Wildis being worked with at the moment.

However, despite the many great adaptations of Link, Zelda and Ganon, there is always that one that stuck out so greatly in ouir minds that no one can seem to remove from it's throne. I'm speaking of course of Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

This game was made in response to what many at the time felt was not enough coverage for the game (something hard to understand nowadays) and had with it some of the best of the best in animation and voice acting at the time. Vic Mignona from RWBY and DBZ fame voiced Link, while Zelda Williams, Robin's own daughter and named after the so mentioned character, voiced Princess Zelda. The series had such talent as Brenda Chapman, Shinchiro Watanabe and Hideiki Anno working on the project, something that delighted fans and made it a true magical product, something that has yet to be repeated in the following adaptations.

So to all Zelda Fanboys and Fangirls out there, this is Jules from Whatculture.com and I bring you: The 8 greatest moments from Ocarina of Time: The Series.

***Warning: Spoilers Ahead!***

Number 8: The Great Deku Tree Dies (S01 E03: Goodbye)

If there is one thing the series is remembered for is for not pulling their emotional punches. Link has been through the most harrowing experience of his life just after he finally thought that he could be accepted by his peers, he has killed the monster Gohma and saved the Great Deku Tree...Or so you'd think. Instead he discovers that the one person...Sorry, tree...for whom he suffered this much, the one who could be called a father for him, is already pass the time of expiration, and is just about to die. Link's grief is handled in a truly mature and realistic way, and you can clearly see the struggle in him as the desire to break down and cry battles with the desire to fullfill the last wishes of the Great Deku Tree. It all comes down to Link running after receiving the Kokiri Emerald, as Navi the fairy remains behind for a while, and delivers a final goodbye as the Great Deku Tree dies.

Number 7: Meeting Princess Zelda (S01 E06: Royal Audience)

Many of the series before did Zelda differently, in the first show she appeared in random segments, and her first speaking lines were at the end, and some like the Link's Awakening adaptation had her not at all. In Ocarina of Time however we are introduced to Zelda aaannnd...She's a child. However we are shown something that no other entry did, showing her in a more vulnerable position. Meeting Zelda for the first time gives the impression of a child burdened with tthe entire weight of the Kingdom in her, yet still willing to trust and care for people. This became the first time Zelda was given a through fleshing out of her chracter, and thus became the definitive version of Zelda from that moment on.

Number 6: Link and Darunia defeat Volvagia (S02 E11: Brotherhood)

Darunia was an instant beloves character, from his first presentation, to his final part when he helps seal Ganon away. But in no episode is he more explored and beloved than when he and Link teamed together in rescuing the Gorons and fighting the great dragon Volvagia. Initially Darunia had limited time in the first season, however this episode was able to truly flesh the character as he showed a true sense of brotherly affection with Link, treating him as family, and being the brother he never knew. Through the episode we can actually see Link start to open more and more to his "Big Brother", at some points even showing flashbacks to former episodes, and some scenes that did not make the cut for earlier ones.

Number 5: The Last Guardsman's Message (S01 E20: The Sacred Realm)

The final episode of the first season was some of the most dramatic and hair rising episode of the entire series. Ganondorf had invaded, the princess was on the run, the entire marketplace, once vibrant and full of life, now deserted and barren, and Link as he wades through the place finds a lone guardsman, one that awakwns just long enough to beg for his help in protecting the princess before expiring. This was adeep and touching moment from one of the relatively unknown parts of the game, whcih truly sold the mood of the moment. For as much as Link had fought in the different lands of Hyrule, Castle Hyrule had always been a safe place. Not anymore, war had come to Hyrule, and thwere was no time to waste.

Number 4: The Bottom of the Well (S03 E8: Historia Tenebris)

Link has gone through volcanoes, jungles, and even the bottom of seas and lakes, yet it was the time when he had to go back thorugh time and get to the bottom of the well in Kakariko when the most disturning part of the series begins. The animation team pulled forth their greatest work here, as every scene is showed to be creepy and disturbin without going to gory detail. Link who has faced monsters in his trvels is seen to be completely disturbed and terrified of what he finds as he discovers Hyrule''s dark history, fihgts the invisible monsters, and when he faces all the terrors that are hidden beneath a sleepy village in the top of a mountain. Now that is a good pitch for a Stephen King's novel right there!

Number 3: Meeting Lord Jabu-Jabu (S01 E15: Saving Princess Ruto)

Link has gone against all matters of creatures in his travels, yet his biggest challenge and greatest feat of animation, was when they showed the truly titanic shape of Jabu-Jabu. I mean, this beast is HUGE!!! One no longer has to wonder why the Zoras worship this guy, right? And having to stand tall against him and even enter inside...I don't k now who has more courage, the boy entering to save the princess, or the princess who entered voluntarily herself. Credit where credit is due, they managed to make this titan to be huge and imposing, without making him cartoony or lessening his impact. This creature looks as if he could kill me with just a look.

Number 2: Meeting the Gerudo (S03 E13: Desert Amazons)

Among the greatest scenes who can forget the sight of Gerudo Valley and Gerudo Fortress, while the game itself gave great hints towards Gerudo society and icnography, it was the series who fleshed it out, giving us enough clues as to actually understand their culture, hierarchy and even some explanation as to the nature of their society. Accepting Link as one of their own was given great importance and it is seen as how great an honor and concession it truly is. The scenes with Link sneaking into the fortress in order to rescue the carpenters (after he was captured no less!) are tense and full of suspense, as you wonder if he will get caught this time. Hats off to the screen writers, they truly raised the bar here.

Number 1: Zelda's reveal (S03 E18: Endgame Part 1)

The reveal of Princess Zelda and the reunion with Link was one of the most emotionally charged episodes in the series. Through it all we had seen Link worry and wonder what would Zelda be doing, and the meetings with Sheik take a whole new meaning once the reveal is made (if you haven't played the game of course). The interaction itself feels intimate, yet still ambiguous enough for fans to wonder if their favorite ship is canon or not.

Well, there you have it. Do you agree with the results? Leave a comment below and don't forget to shit that subscribe button.

A.N: Tried to do something similar to what I usually see in those Youtube videos, don't know how successfull I was here. Hope you don't mind @Cyberphilosipher since I took some info from your previous omake and made mention in mine. I really hope to be able to do some great Zelda cartoons, and if we manage to do it by combining Western and Eastern animation all the better.

I truly feel that we can do a good job with adapting the different Nintendo properties here, and expanding into Japanese animation (or borrowing and learning from it) can only be beneficial for the animation department for Disney. Having the Lion King give credit where credit is due can also help us in that regard.

Anyways, I leave this omake here, and hope you guys enjoy it. @Slynnwen , what do you think, is it doable?

With that, the meeting with Wimberly & Cook ends, and you're rushing off to a surprise board meeting. You enter to the sound of a TV crackling out the news.

"Here at the top of the hour, Peter Jennings, ABC News. Congressional officials today, acting in concert with the DoD and DoJ, have announced that they believe the broad strokes of the leaked scientific reports are accurate, even if some of the specifics can be debated. It's official: Oil and Gas are killing the planet. Several documents indicate that Exxon may have been reaching out to other major gas companies, and the DoD and DoJ have indicated that they will continue to look into the matter. Exxon's stock has cratered, and nearly everyone agrees that this will be the end of the once towering gas giant. Other gas companies and several car manufacturers have also felt the effects of the announcement, with the market closing early today to give everyone time to digest the news. The economy appears to be slipping, although right now the shrinkage is minimal. President Reagan has yet to formulate an official response to the economic problem, but the fed has reduced interest rates, and the President has promised, along with nearly every other official at every level of government with the power, an official pardon for the leakers should they turn out to have done anything illegal. He has also made it clear that the DoJ will aggressively pursue charges of some kind against Exxon for their "heinous" behavior. Congress is working on a set of laws to make it explicitly clear that leaking information on world-ending threats is protected, with senator Joe Biden saying "Well of course we're going to do this, it's a big f***ing deal." The official question of how to handle gas is currently up in the air, with some favoring a return to gas rationing, a ban on non-necessary driving (run by the DoD), an increase in mass and public transit methods, or the government stepping in and taking over the gas and car companies to see what can be done, at least until the crisis is over. Some congressional republicans have broken with the President, as public sentiment appears to be leaning towards blaming the lax regulations of the administration for the problem. As an angry public demands answers at home, our allies abroad also indicate their concern, with many European countries renewing their focus on train and bus based transit options. China has officially banned cars outside of official government usage. Chairman Gorbachev was quick to lay blame at the feet of capitalism, stating that "this is the obvious and inevitable conclusion of such a… flawed system." He also announced a massive expansion of the USSR's nuclear power program, claiming that eventually nuclear would be so safe as to let you drive a car with a nuclear reactor. In other USSR news, the Contras have taken severe losses as the lack of a financial backer ever since the US stopped funding them becomes more and more apparent. The Iranians, however, appear to have found a second wind, as better and more advanced weapons appear to have made their way into Iranian hands. Questions are being raised as to how they obtained the technology. Closer to home and lighter in tone, Disney has announced a major deal with Nintendo, including Nintendo characters appearing in the Disney parks and Disney producing animated material for the video game giant. This comes on the heels of Disney's announcement that the Tomorrowland 2055 renovations in California would be finishing faster and cheaper than expected, opening in time for the summer rush. Despite assuming the role only a year and a half ago, CEO Michael Eisner is rapidly becoming the star of the business world…"

The TV clicks off. "Hey, I liked that last bit!" You say.

"Mike, we love you." Says Roy. "But with the economy the way it is, we wanted to discuss the hotel expansion plans."

"As much as I hate to admit it, we may want to look at cutting back the number of hotels we start this year." Says Ray, shaking his head. "Hell of a time for Exxon to shit the bed," He sends you a Look, and you let out an awkward chuckle, "but what's done is done."

Charles looks up. "Ultimately, it's up to you, of course." He swirls a glass of something alcoholic. "But if you were to cut back to two new hotels this year, we'd be willing to go along with it."

-[] Change board goal to 2 hotels and 1250 rooms.

-[] Keep board goal as-is.

Reducing our workload? Hell the fuck yes! Sure, it's because of bad new, but that's fine. We can ride out the recession just fine.

Damn, this shits crazy awesome. Just vullldozibg OTL like CHUGGA CHUGGA CHOO CHOO all over em.

Also, this means we can probably synergize epically and get PR for advancing monorails, electric cars, etc. That shit is already on the table but now it's all the more enticing. The lowered board reqs don't hurt either, we should have some actions freed up to go all over that.

He also announced a massive expansion of the USSR's nuclear power program, claiming that eventually nuclear would be so safe as to let you drive a car with a nuclear reactor.
It would be funny if the Soviets somehow critted nuclear research and prevented Chernobyl.

I'm quite surprised at the amount of omakes.
It's almost at 10.000 words.

Hmmm... could we create a public-transport spin-off with the expertise our imagineers have? The goal of such a spin-off is to sell it off at a later date.
This would allow us to spread the Disney technology without needing a lot of effort and gain some money from this crisis.
