Hey, guys? I know this'll probably be like telling the megalomaniacal supervillain not to use his super cool death ray on his nemesis, but... do you think you could maybe tone it down a bit on the massively complex/esoteric/reality-shattering research and stuff? I know everyone's excited that supercells! and real, working magic! and holy overpowered plasma cannons, Batman! but... honestly, it's pretty tough for me. I don't want to make you guys feel slighted or anything, but I don't want to give you game-breaking nonsense at the same time. Plus, some stuff's just really hard for me to fit into game mechanics; Hardboiled isn't exactly made to replicate complex magic abilities or other stuff like that. Not to mention that I'm already having to implement rules changes to maintain some illusion of game balance.

So, just... not asking that you quit this stuff completely, but I'd greatly appreciate it if you would be a little less ambitious. For my sake?

Totally, dude. Honestly, I've been shocked in basically all the games, including this one, at how thoroughly the QMs stick with "you can research ANYTHING". I've constantly wondered if there would be some high-end limits.

Could you maybe give us some ideas on Research projects in the last 2-3 turns that haven't had you feeling frustrated, overwhelmed, or panicked?

Can do.
*shoves bio-jaegers down the priority list a few notches*
I imagine they'd have taken a fair bit of time anyway. Though ironically, I wonder if they'd be easier to model in some ways? We have rules for both Kaiju and Jaegers, after all....

Good.

I disliked the entire "magic" nonsense anyway.
That's really not a helpful attitude to display. I understand the feeling that magic doesn't entirely fit the thematics of our setting (Pacific Rim), but surely there are less frustrating and hurtful ways to express that?

We'd basically be trying to make Seijin, and I know Fyr has stuff for them. The hard bits would be the intermediary steps.

It's not, hence why l never mentioned it before.

Also, doesn't entirely fit is a bit of an understatement.

To be honest, the crazier research ideas I want to pursue are less about complex and unusual effects and more about augmenting what we already have.

Use Magic to make more powerful reactors and better weapons instead of using it to fire Magic Missiles and space-warping rituals, if you get what I mean.

And yeah, stuff like the Hammerspace open lots of possibilities and while some of them are somewhat tame (infinite ammo and weapon storage) others are very much game-breaking (enormous reactors inside small units, for one. Plasma weapons for everyone!) so I can understand you wanting us to tone it down.

Hm...

- the "armadillo" project
- environmental repair thing
- Mark IV reactors
- the wizard's academy (the building/augment itself, not what it would entail)
- general improvements on preexisting stuff
- gyros
- medical
- most of your conventional stuff

I guess. It's mainly the stuff that doesn't involve magic, reactor combination, fancy breach stuff, or bio-jaegers. More... Normal stuff, really.

I don't know.

Alright, that helps, I'll keep that in mind.

Regarding the Jaegers we've seen in the bay, the two I want most are Gypsy and Midsummer, because they'll make good bases for Paladin and Revolver.

Condor Flight Team 1 glided lazily above the ground, engines running slowly. The air was cold, and a light mix of snow and sleet was falling. Not the best weather for flying, but the Condors could handle it. Nearby were the ruins of the city formerly occupied by Vulcan, now empty and worn down.

Onboard one of the aircraft, the vehicle's spotter was filling their role, and scanning around for anything out of the ordinary. Nothing really stood out... at least, not until a glimmer of light caught their eye.

"...Huh?" Their glance shot up-- was something moving, there in the city ruins? It might not be too odd-- after all, a few hardy anteverse beasts still lived there-- but this had looked almost artificial. The spotter squinted, focusing on the patch where they'd seen the glimmer.

"Guys, check your twos; we might have something..."

It was at that point that the unwelcome visitor decided to make themselves shown.

A shape darted out from behind a patch of building, springing into the air. It was white, like some sort of metal dragonfly-- before the weather picked up, temporarily shaking the Condors just enough to disrupt the view.

Someone reached for a radio.

- Neo-Seattle command center

One of the comms crackled to life.

"Command!" A pilot radios in. "This is Condor Flight Team 1; we've found an unknown bogey on something-- hiding down at the ruins! It's not going for the city-- heading away, actually. Weather's getting a bit spirited here, but we can probably keep our friend tailed for a while. Orders?"

Dafuq? Did Commander Yammark confuse the game he was supposed to be into?

Probably not, since I have no idea who you're talking about.
Megaman X6 reference. Commander Yammark was the boss of the forest stage and the prime target for a first time player trying to finish the game. He wasn't exactly easy, but not thay hard either.

He was based on a dragonfly and defeating him gave you a weapon that created... three or six dragonfly robots (can't remember exactly how many) that fired shots with you and could take hits for you, and the Charged Shot variant made six Dragonflies that shot a bunch of times before stopping.
