Kinda-sorta. The way AP works, the only difference is when the Armor Piercing value of the weapon os lower than the Armor Value of the armor. If the AP is equal to or greater than the AV, the attack is reduced by a smaller amount and the armor takes more damage. If the AV is higher, even by one point, then the attack is fully mitigated by armor.Depends on the situation, I think. More armor makes more AP more worthwhile.
In that case, the armor-piercing of our Fracture Blade seems pretty universally useful, since it's a rare Kaiju that lacks any armor. Either you pierce or you don't, there's no prize for almost getting there. Which is why the Ascalon Blade and the Plasma Launchers are so good against armor, they have high innate AP and the AP value can increase depending on the roll. It's why the Fracture Blade and the Fragmentation-type weapons are so amazing, because they can simply ignore the AV.
It's also why our armor is so amazing, because unless the enemy has an AP 5 weapon, which is actually a very high value, all attacks have their damage reduced by 5 points, which is really quite insane. Just look at the damage Tacit took last post, despite Laidon rolling a 14! Our Jagdarium armor is two steps away from being as strong as Super Alloy Z or whatever ridiculously strong mecha armor you prefer.
The Fracture Blade is really, absolutely fucking amazing. Every Kaiju from Cat IV up gets unbreakable extra armor everywhere, in addition to whatever armor they're equipped with and AP tends to lag behind armor as it is. Ignoring Armor means that Tacit is pretty much guaranteed to get a Minor Wound with every attack that hits and he'd deal a Major Wound with every attack that beats the target's reaction byIn that case, the armor-piercing of our Fracture Blade seems pretty universally useful, since it's a rare Kaiju that lacks any armor. Hands are a very elegant solution to the problem. Not simple, because Giant Robot Hands are still Robot Hands and thus complicated and delicate stuff, but elegant. That said, I suspect KRAUN's solution is 'hands'. It probably makes their lives easier to just use hand-held weaponry, over built-in equipment they can't easily remove and swap out.
Indeed. Looking at the stats, they are pretty awesome. That said,we may come up with other blades to rival them. Maybe. When I said we got the best blades, I wasn't kidding.
I would like to make a Jaeger with a focus on hand-held melee at some point. Maybe as a partner for Phenom Sable. And possibly with some sort of hidden knife it can unsheath while grappled, or a body-wide electrical shock weapon. But that's for another day. Plus, a ranged fighter would probably work out better, partnership-wise.Hands are a very elegant solution to the problem. If we get a weapon like the Ascalon Blade, where the to-hit stat (DEX) is the same as the Damage Bonus stat, then we have a ridiculously simple and effective build for the Jaeger. The only problem is that the Jaeger becomes very vulnerable to Grappling if it focuses solely in Hand-held weapons. Then again, Jagdhund has an amazing track record when it comes to grappling, but Jagdhund is one-of-a-kind in many aspects.

Raubtiers. Seriously think about it, one of the drawbacks of the Raubtiers was that they're organisms, and thus aren't as "plug-n-play" with integrated equipment as the inorganic jaegers. Not making the equipment integrated fully sidesteps the issue and fells the gap of "Dex focused Jaeger" in our build.I would like to make a Jaeger with a focus on hand-held melee at some point.

Lol. If we can rope KRAUN into it, and can come in with more units, I'd be up for a raid on Oblivion Bay. We'll potentially have to split the recovered tech with them, but I think the backup should seriously help. I'm not sure if that's a higher priority than expansion, though.Piercer Savage is waiting right there in Oblivion Bay. Just saying. I'm totally not fishing for support for aSecondFirst Crusade. Depends on how much Kaiju tech we can incorporate into them. Grafting stuff onto them may be easier than you think. But yeah, I can see them needing more in the way of hand-held weaponry.Raubtiers. Give us more low-level Kaiju to have the conventionals mulch while the Jaegers take on the big boys! That's the solution. Or have the Kaiju Masters develop biotech equivalents of conventionals.I will say, while I am a little sad that Laidon wasn't able to show off its cool melee abilities, and died the instant you got into melee (seriously, conventional forces are supposed to be auxiliary, stop using them as your main damage dealers!) but it did manage to survive your conventionals for several rounds (barely), do some damage in return, and show off some cool stuff. Plus, it's given me lots of data for the next few kaiju to use... heh heh heh...
Ah, but nevermind my evil plots. Downtime's a coming!
I just love references like these.Go back to your garden, dragon."
Shunk.
SE-27-010 "Laidon" Defeated!
Phenom Sable-- who'd been closing in to assist-- stops mid-jog, and tilts their conpod, confused by the reference. Tacit glances back.
"...I like Greek mythology?" the understudy pilot replies, the giant robot's shoulders giving an uncertain shrug.
Then stop giving us single targets to hit with massive amounts of ordnance.I will say, while I am a little sad that Laidon wasn't able to show off its cool melee abilities, and died the instant you got into melee (seriously, conventional forces are supposed to be auxiliary, stop using them as your main damage dealers!)

I was thinking more that a sample of that liquid might help us come up with better Batteries and/or Capacitors of our own. Didn't we have a project that required hyper-efficient batteries and capacitors, I think it was for better Directed Energy Weapons and Railguns or something like that.I'm not giving you a research token for this guy, but it'd be pretty easy to reverse engineer his UV light rays now, if you want.
That's some impressive toughness there. Really impressive. And my first instinct that it wasn't something anyone but Phenom wanted to get into a grapple with was right too.Stats:

Its almost a straight upgrade to Jagdhund's Machine Cannon, though it is a bit shorter-ranged and can only fire single-shots. It's ideal for when we need a trump card that doesn't cost an additional 150R per shot fired.IDB-49b "Dolch Gewehr" Plasma Launcher:

Thermal Bloom: When used in the first firing mode, all within 1d5/2 Units of the target struck automatically take 1 Fire Damage.
May be activated as a Short Action, and sheathed as a Free Action. If it is not sheathed, the wielder is treated as if they had one hand occupied until they do so.
The Plasma Launcher may only be mounted on jaegers, and always mounts on a Shoulder or Thigh. When active, it must be held by the corresponding Hand.

Not exactly expecting anyone to vote for this plan, but it's pretty cheap so I'm submitting it anyway... (And yes, the plan name is derived from the fact that it's pretty much all over the place. At least I tried to keep it restricted to stuff that I can see immediate uses for.)

-[X] Build Kaiju Hunt Scanner (-975 Resources)
-[X] Build 3x Detection Grid Booster (-1500 Resources)
-[X] Build K-Science Laboratory (-1000 Resources)

Of course, if we can upgrade the Neural Disruptors we've already built I'll probably switch the land mines for doing so (which would increase the cost of this plan a bit). No hunting here, but since it's so research-heavy I don't think it needs to.

You really don't need to have the scanning bit-- you guys have several viable kaiju targets to fight already.
This is the only really "???"thing I can find on your plan. I... assume you're just referring to a control system/mechanism, which would allow for the development of actual Remote Weapons at a later date?--[] Research a Remote Weapon Control System for the Jaegers. (Use Oswin Token)
Honestly, considering the bugs it's got (the lack of stopping is probably less important than the lack of steering and the loss of action economy due to needing resupply between uses), combined with the small scale we're operating on at the moment, I'm not sure we even NEED a Skadi yet. After we get a second city, definitely, but right now? If you can name something it'll add to our forces' abilities RIGHT NOW, I'll consider compromising by swapping out one of my research actions for building one.I can't vote for this because it misses out on the most consequential purchase of them all; the Skadi.
Excellent. You really don't need to have the scanning bit-- you guys have several viable kaiju targets to fight already.
Again;
- SE-26-003-H, "Goryo", Category IV. Location: North-West. Scanners read incredible density, scattered signature.
- SE-27-001-H, "Boreas", Category IV. Location: far North. May be able to affect the atmosphere to an unknown extent.
- SE-27-003-H, "Tara", Category III. Location: Southeast. Noted for extensive modification of the terrain in its area.
- SE-27-004-H, "Rime", Category III. Location: West. Spends most of its time underwater.
Options.

Pretty much. I assumed the Control System would be an Augment/Mod and the Bits/Fangs would be closer to normal equipment we can equip and change as needed, what with all the talk of different models of Fangs for each Jaeger. This is the only really "???"thing I can find on your plan.
