[X] Tacit begin pacing back and forth to arm ranged dodging option and attempt to taunt the Kaiju.

Sidenote, @Fyrstorm : The Ultracompact Reactor we researched this past turn - how does it compare to the Nuclear Fission Reactor that is currently powering the Heimdal?

Half the calories size, same great taste output.

Hmmm... Jawa, you thinking some kind of remodel/redesign for any further Heimdal units?
MOAR ARMOR!

Or some MISSILES!

I suspect that's less an issue of POWER and more of higher fire rates OVERHEATING the barrel. The RAILGUNS currently being tested create a lot of heat when firing, and something as POWERFUL as the Heimdal's should create much more heat due to frictions and also wear down the barrel quite a bit.
What if we used the extra POWER to run, like, a bunch of FANS and AIR CONDITIONERS to help COOL the RAILGUN?

You speak as if you weren't one yourself. :V

Bolo?

Hm. I also now have this mental image of our Mark 0 Mecha riding around on the Heimdall like it's a surfboard or scooter or something. While a heavy metal riff plays in the background.
Most of the time I imagine the Mark 0 mechs as gundam style humanoid machines, just about a quarter of the size of the a Jaeger.

But sometimes, I think about how they're going to fight alongside the Jaegers and I remember Magnos Tankred from Shinji and Warhammer 40K. A murderous, deranged puppy compared to the EVA's sheer size. And that's exactly the kind of stunt Mana Kirishima would pull, except she'd be driving closer to Rocket Drill Punch a Kaiju in the crotch.

Being kind-of big is the primary advantage. Flying fortress.
Let's wait until we master Breach-Tech and get started on exotic propulsion and hovering systems before making flying superheavies.

Then we can make flying battleship-carriers.

Someday, I hope to play a SRW style Vs The World Quest, with flying battleships and Jaeger combo attacks and three different groups fighting it out, the whole package. Even if I have to write it myself to play it.

a flying battleship would actually really change the shape of the battlefield. It would be able to (theoretically) solo any melee only kajui, and likely any kajui it could outrange and outrun. The KM seemed to have churned out a lot of cheap melee only kajui in the early days of the war, and we can see a lot of low cat melee monsters rooming around acting like garrison troops. a flying super heavy would make clearing those out trivial, and would more or less force the KM to include heavy ranged attacks in any serous attack force they send out.

Do inform me if you decide to do that.
I am working on a system for the quest, but that's an on-and-off kinda deal where I write whatever inspiration hits me that day. Trying to create a system to allow scaling up from single-city level stuff, like the normal Vs The World quests are tuned to work with, up to global scale missions to liberate the Earth from the precursors and god knows what other factions join the brawl is a very daunting task when your experience with Quest-running is literally nonexistent.

I'm thinking of something closer to a CK2-Quest style with more emphasis on research and development of technologies so we can play around with the really ludicrous Super Robot technologies, while battles play out on a grid-based strategy-game style map.

I'm essentially making things up as I go along.

And difficulties with the system aside, I'm nowhere near good enough as a writer to start a project like that, as my Omakes can attest. I'm still practicing, but that Quest isn't happening any time soon.

Yeah, which is why I don't really see them happening anytime soon, if ever.

It'd make every encounter from then on have to be against Dansleif-level opponents. It'd completely change the style and scale of combat.

Frankly, I imagine odds are far more likely we'd figure out a way to open counter-breaches and launch a counter-invasion of the anteverse (or maybe just send lots and lots of nukes through) before we ever figured out a viable way to field worthwhile flying battleships.
