Super Robot Quest G

Diana
- Liaison (MSS): 3, 6

Diana doesn't quite have the same rapport with MSS that Adrianna does, and she has to tiptoe around the whole 'being an AI' part of the equation (unlike Adrianna, who would just bulldoze her way through the prospect cheerfully). Still, she comes to an understanding with Charles Mander - he's calling in the favor for a pretty hefty upgrade, one that would threaten to break him financially, for Valiant - and he's sending over Dr. Marcus Dinym to talk shop with your engineers. He'll arrive next month.

New Liaison Action unlocked.
Said it before, I'll say it again: I hope we can live up to the hype.

I still prefer doing the Constructicons 1st so we can have the Infrastructure to build the tools to make the tools we need for Spaceborne Operations.

You know, all of a sudden all that controversy and irritation we got from rebuilding that supercarrier to be a spacecraft is going to just vanish I suspect. Instead we're going to be congratulated for our 'foresight on upcoming threats'. Along we being delicately asked at high volume why on Earth and, they can't believe they need to say this now, in Sol did we not actually tell them about the near threat coming from space?

Also, they're still irritated at us for not telling them the aircraft carrier was not space-capable before the unveiling as that means they couldn't rework things before but eh. That's just standard alternate branch griping.

Yeah with the new potential threat I think we really need to lean on other super robot programs to pick up the slack once they get up to speed since I doubt any of the other programs have the tech base to work towards space combat super robots. At least not for a while.

We really need more pilots so we can form additional teams. Threats are multiplying and its going to take time for other super robot programs that isn't Ground Pound to really get going.

I mean, whatever it is might be benign or even friendly!

It's almost Certainly either another Kausen Faction that picked up the Distress Call, the Forces that the Regent wishes to fight tracking it down, Secret Westphalian Space Base of Doom, The species that made the facility Sheol is using, or an entirely new faction that came because "Man the energy readings from this backwater is really funky".

New Aliens looking at the Various Supers and other races.
Kaus : Okay so the Mekean Dominion is here.
Kaiju: Planet contains aggressive Megafauna
Mercury: So they figured out a dimensional tap, neat.
Valiant: Magnets go Brrrrrr
Fulgar Particle Mech: They tapped into what!? Initiate containment protocols
DFRI: THIS IS AN INSULT TO SCIENCE! This thing literally runs on Crystals and Happy Thoughts! Is this made by Wizards!?

guys depending on what it is, we may need to rush plans for that Space battleship.

It's only going to get more silly when we do something particularly brown note inducing to the sensibilities.

Like hooking a Fulgur Generator to a space battleship.

In character post to go up tomorrow-ish, along with the Engineering rolls. I'm about to have a very busy month, so this is also a heads up that posts will be somewhat slower (though thankfully June and July will ease up).

February, Year Four - Defense Force Results
Sasaki Haruko

Liaison: FRC

Sasaki reported back some time ago that her attempt to meet with Lieutenant Colonel Kim ran into something of a snag. It's not a snub - the man's been doing nothing but singing praises over the Jackals and the raw flexibility that it's been offering his organization. The problem is simply put - not only does he know how well they work, so do various criminal networks, some with suspected Westphalian ties (purely on the economical end of the relationship rather than ideological).

Sasaki was only able to briefly speak with LTC Kim - and then the meeting ultimately had to be cut short due to various emergencies that required his attention. Sasaki was politely - but firmly - shown the door before she could get a closer look, but casual observations of the various Jackals in use and LTC Kim's own points of discussion tell their story.

The Jackals are being stretched and modified to take on a variety of roles, and they're not entirely suited to all of them. Everything from law enforcement to firefighting and disaster relief operations. The Jackal clearly performs better in some roles than others - the fact it can perform them all is a point in its favor, but it doesn't excel at them, and none of them can come close to Beowulf.

More than anything, stolen Jackals and Westphalian-esque Frankensteins are some of the biggest hurdles that LTC Kim is facing, and they're starting to interfere with the rest of his mission scope. Sasaki has some ideas to potentially float, but they all would require BG Peters' approval and LTC Kim's buy-in.

LIaison: Galbinus

"The trick," Galbinus explained, "is to either make Bandit himself appear to be such a high value target, or that the Legion is so prideful that we will not tolerate any wounds to our reputation. Preferably both."

"It isn't entirely a falsehood either," Haruko noted. She was not physically present at the Enclave - there was too much activity going on in there for that, and she was better able to multitask while she was at the comfort of her office. Galbinus's face simply appeared in the holoscreen where they could chat in real time. "Bandit is the first Free Brother you were able to apprehend, and his skills as an arms dealer and facilitator have been noted before."

"True. But there is less to be gained by keeping him here at this point." Galbinus had a slightly frustrated look on his face plate. "Tyrannous does not tell Bandit the finer points of his plans - something I had hoped to uncover, but I suppose I shouldn't be surprised. By his accounts, Bandit is terrified of Tyrannous."

Not too hard to believe, honestly. "So what do you gain by letting him go?" It was pretty obvious, but both parties knew that speaking out plans did help to identify anything that was off.

"I gain a few items of note," Galbinus explained. "One: I am able to see who Tyrannous is willing to commit to freeing one of his gang, and thus see how much he values them. It gives me the opportunity to thin his numbers, however marginal." Then his face broke into a smile - Haruko recoiled slightly at just how vicious it looked, leaving her to momentarily imagine a universe where Galbinus's greed had overtaken his honor. "And it lets me plant Delphi's virus package onto the Belligerent."

"...the third being your ultimate objective, but you gain some benefit regardless."

"Precisely. Which is also where Beowulf, Perseus and the young Argonauts will come into play. Beowulf's presence will only sell the illusion of collective pride - he was instrumental to bringing in Bandit, after all, and they have a history. And Perseus's attack elsewhere will ensure that the Free Brothers will need to make a decision on where to commit." Galbinus leaned back from the screen, the sense of satisfaction of a plan coming together evident on his face plate. "Ultimately, they will need to let Bandit escape - but that is no reason to let them do so cheaply. They will likely bring some manner of new weapon that Scrapheap or Rangefinder have put together - no reason to let them leave with it."

"Understood," Haruko agreed. "You have mission command, Galbinus. Just please treat our people well."

"That we will," he promised. A slightly bemused look crossed his face. "The young Argonauts included. I must admit my mechs are not quite sure what to make of them."

"Is there an issue?"

"Not...exactly. It is just interesting seeing what would have been hotsparked youngsters back home." Glancing shiftily to the side, he added, "perhaps do not get Patch worked up over the topic."

"Noted."

Diana

Liaison: MSS

Diana is seriously being thrown out of her comfort zones these days. In addition to chaperoning various mad scientists, she's also been thrown into receiving Mander's request for a meeting. Not for the last time, her frantic efforts to speak to a VIP over the line reminds you more and more of a fresh faced junior officer being thrown into a last minute task, and doing her damned best to try and stay afloat without openly showing she's just flailing her arms and trying to make it work.

(Technically, she is all of those things, doing all of those things, but semantics)

Still, she's able to keep Mander mostly on agenda. In short: he's calling in that favor for rerouting Valiant to help Ichiro all that time ago, and it's over upgrading Valiant. It struck you both as a little weird why he was reaching out to you, given that your technology base is somewhat different from Dinym's brand of super magnetism.

Then he showed you the actual cost of what Dinym projected the upgrade to be, and even with your budgetary discretion of 'government,' you winced sympathetically. No wonder he wanted to reach out to you - between the Duo, the Build Team, and Jiro and Lana you just might have a solution that doesn't utterly destroy his financial outlook.

With recent precedent on your side, you immediately greenlight Diana's request to simply invite Dr. Marcus Dinym over to discuss and find that upgrade. If he walks away with a solution he's happy enough to apply to the Valiant, Mander will call the favor done and good.

And you ensure that Diana remembers to keep Dinym away from Sam and Max when he does come to visit.

Adrianna

Reaction Force Monitoring: Kaiju

Adrianna cheerfully goes about cataloguing every little instance of suspected kaiju infiltrators after you task her with it. By now, after having compared plenty of notes with Diana and from her own observations alongside Erika in the recent operation, the security-minded SAI gleefully begins categorizing every little aspect she can find.

Despite this, it turns out Sheol's dirty dozens are actually quite subtle - or at least this batch is, leaving you to wonder if there's another intelligent kaiju-hybrid running around calling the shots. The infiltrators are fast, smart, and seemingly take much more care on using firearms and crew served weapons in conducting hit and run raids - and all in emulation of golden age Westphalians. They don't even fly a false flag - you suppose whoever is running the show will let people make assumptions and not bother to correct them.

But just why they're hitting various bases in East Asia is still something of a mystery to you and Adrianna. GDF and MEF facilities are of particular note across Vietnam, the Philippines and Japan, but just what they're doing there aside from just inflicting damage, you're both unsure just yet. Only that they are, and that they're disguising themselves to pass beneath notice.

Reaction Force Monitoring: Other Threats

To be continued in interlude.

Reaction Force Monitoring: Other Threats

To be continued in interlude.
well, that's going to be an interesting one. As pointed out earlier this could be a number of things. good, bad, or something else. it could be Makean's, The regency's problems, or a whole different group or thing. too soon to tell.

Meanwhile on the moon;

"Ahh, after ten-thousand years I'm free! Time to conquer-"

*Sees the planet on fire*

"The fuck did I miss!?"

"Welcome to the Earth Union Invasions Department. To be seen, please take a number and we will ready the Super Robots when a team of specialists is available. Please have your justifying documents and McGuffins on hand to better help us serve your defeat...

Since Paul already made K-Steak, why have we not yet tried to make K-Coffee?

Devin: "...it's got a bit of a monstrous kickback..."

We should probably make a unit based off of a stealth fighter at one point if only to make battlefield alpha strikes a lot easier.

And also to not allow information to reach traitorous branches until it's too late about where we're hitting up a place.

And lastly because Gaogaigar has a part of it be one of those and GGG is Hella cool beans.

REBOOT OF 'PERCIVAX-A' COMPLETE.

Percivax hated the reboot process. It always felt nauseating, as if you had been on a conveyance platform only to have it disappear and then getting to experience the full lurch of momentarily losing your sense of gravity. He deeply envied the law mechs who didn't experience it - not least of which because it also meant he was never going to volunteer for the more hazardous drop operations. Not when he could refer them to someone else, and Metatrine take the majority of it.

Percivax-Austerus is online. Status?

"Good cycle to you too, Victoria," Percivax growled, his vocal box sounding somewhat raspy as he reached for the conveniently placed Shard she had so thoughtfully provided. A small compartment on his forearm opened, allowing him to crush the Shard with his other hand and allowing the debris to fall in.

And as the compartment closed, he felt far more online than before, leaving him to wonder if other species had a stimulant equivalent for those post-slipshot journeys. Perhaps he'd find out after this particular job was done.

His optics narrowed. Right. The job.

"That's better," he opted to say first, his voice now sounding far more deep and assertive than before. "Thank you, Victoria. Status?"

Some microdebris impacts. Percivax's large frame climbed out of the reboot pods, his feet clanging against the bulkhead floor. He glanced at the other four pods, thankfully with the augmented vision informing him that there were currently no deficiencies, but Victoria was running their diagnostics too. Just in case. And as per protocol. Once everymech is online, it's nothing a quick repair job can't fix. All other systems are online.

"But?" Percivax had not worked with Victoria for too long, having received his appointment orders for this job only recently, but his Oracle Matrix already had a few vocal cues that he could pick up on. They all did - though some petulantly tried to hide it. Victoria, he learned, tended to layer the 'good' news before the 'bad' or 'strange.'

Scans of Solaris are complete. And...I think we've located where our errant mechs have gone.

"Show me," he demanded as he walked towards the bridge. Well, 'bridge' was something of a grandiose aspiration. The Defiant really was just a patrol vessel - only two decks barely large enough to squeeze through for most mechs, and Percivax's larger frame meant that he had to hunch down quite a bit to squeeze through himself. Thankfully, the br-okay, cockpit-had a commander's seat - and it was large enough to take in the lawmech's frame.

Settling in, he glanced at the four empty chairs around him - his crew would take their places soon enough, but he preferred to prepare in silence before everyone else arrived. A holographic display of Solaris appeared - nine planetoid bodies, with a somewhat dense meteor debris field between the third and fourth bodies -

- and his optics focused in on the...whatever that was. "Victoria," he asked slowly, "what am I looking at?"

I. Don't. Know. Victoria sounded frustrated - which was new, and worrying. These readings make no sense. Solaris 3 is a continental world fit for biological habitation, and indigenous civilization is well entrenched from what I can see. But these energy readings are...conflicting.

"And Galbinus and Tyrannous?" That there was the metallic core of the issue - and one he wanted to get resolved.

Shard radiology scans come up positive...and in larger numbers than the Belligerent's manifests require.

"So he...shared technology with the indigenous lifeforms?" Percivax's hand clenched into a fist as he internally sighed at how this was going to go.

It appears so.

"Then let it be logged - justification by Councilmech Secundus for revocation of Galbinus-Regulus's appointment as Enforcer of Dominion Law is noted to have some basis. Case file is now being built." Now Percivax sighed - he wasn't sure what the old law mech was up to, but procedure had to be followed. "Start tracking down where he is."

And Tyrannous?

"He's a common criminal. He'll fold when we find him. Besides, unauthorized uplift of a species has to be addressed first."

...how do we explain the other readings then?

Percivax didn't have a good answer to that. Until he did as he cast his mind back through the Codex of Law. "Galbinus will have a chance to defend himself," he reasoned. The Codex was clear - the defendants had a chance to present their case. It just didn't specify when, and he was going to abuse that. "I hate politics, Victoria."

Might I suggest retirement then?

"It's just one more lousy job before I'm free of that parasite's influence." Percivax set aside the case file he now had to create. "Might as well take our time, Victoria. It's not likely that the indigenous lifeforms can detect us."

Meanwhile

0900, 6 February A.D. 2073
DFRI Command Center

"What do you mean space observation found something anomalous?"

Adrianna, for the first time in a long while, looks sheepish. "You, uh, wanted me to look at other threats, but you didn't specify where, boss. So, I figured I'd grab some of the space telescopes and see if alien invaders were coming?"

"And you just happened to be right." You cast a side glare at Sasaki, who seems to be following Adrianna's line of thinking a little too well for this early in the morning. (Nevermind the fact that Adrianna was uploaded with Sasaki's brainscan as a template) "What did you find then?"

Adrianna's avatar vanishes - and you get your first glimpse at something enormous.

It's far from a clear image - but the boxy aesthetic of a Mekaen ship of war is pretty distinctive. It looks smaller than the Belligerent, or at least based on the images that Galbinus and Herald have shared with you, but that wasn't saying much. And you had no idea who was in there or whose side they would take between the Kausen factions. Or if there was some administrative blockhead who was going to try to arrest Galbinus for some inane reason.

"...Sasaki. I'd like to have a word with Galbinus before we initiate operations." You just sigh, seeing your life growing more complex before your very eyes. "I think he should probably know about this..."

Oh boy, I was right in assuming that it was a Mekaen faction that'll be going against our interests.

And it's an inquisitor type too...

This is gonna be messy since now we have a law keeper that can probably phone back home to the main world and escalate things if negotiations fail.

well that's both very good and possibly very bad. Reinforcements are coming. Luckily for Galbinus it was Tyrannous that was sharing tech, Galbinus didn't share tech. all of it is DFRI work.

Luckily for Galbinus it was Tyrannous that was sharing tech, Galbinus didn't share tech. all of it is DFRI work.
Galbinus emphatically did share technology though? And as a lawmech the statndards he is held to is higher than a criminal, albeit it appears there was the typical dirty politics inherent to alien lawkeepers happening in the background.
