"Thank you for this opportunity." Shu Wan said with a warm smile, shaking the hand of the latest talent he had been assigned to vetting.

"No, thank you." His target for the day, Juscelino Quadros, demurred. With all the pleasantries out of the way the two made their way over to their assigned booth to continue onto the main portion of the conversation somewhere where they could not be overheard. Both casually, as the Pleasant Afternoon catered to high level businessmen whose conversations could cost them millions should their plans be made public before the actions agreed upon could be taken, but also professionally. There were many things that could not be said under the light of day after all. Such was the case when one fought against the established order.

Once the security systems reported that they were doing their best to obfuscate the contents of the meeting, Wu Shan set down his menu. "It is not often that we are sought out."

Juscelino shifted uneasily in his seat. "I... Apologize."

"Oh, no need. It is just unusual."

"And in your line of business boring is good, I am peripherally aware." The junior researcher nodded.

"Why didn't you go along with Collor then?" Wu Shan asked with genuine curiosity. "I am not privy to all information on the subject but it can easily be inferred that her team was recruited for a Defense Force project."

"You see... The thing is..." While Juscelino was temperating their orders arrived through the hatch and the digital window came to life. Talking was interrupted for some minutes as the two men went to work on their respective plates.

"I need the money." Juscelino said suddenly, causing Wu Shan to look up with a raised eyebrow. "It's, ah. Medical bills."

"For your daughter." Wu Shan said knowingly.

"...Yes."

"What was her problem again? Muscular dystrophy?"

"Neural degeneration. Something about the fat sheathes not staying on her neurons." The Brazilian scientist said heavily. "And the treatments necessary to keep it from manifesting... Are expensive."

Wu Shan nodded but kept his knowledge of events to himself. As much as the other man was trying to come off as justified, the expenses wouldn't quite manage to cripple him. Force a major lifestyle change, yes. But it would just take his family from well off to perhaps middle class. It wouldn't impoverish him IF he made major lifestyle changes such as downsizing his house, property, and so on.

But Wu Shan was well acquainted with greed as a motivation.

"Then, what are you offering?" Wu Shan kept his face neutral as he pushed to the critical point.

"Collor made information available to everyone on the team, back before the whole DFRI reveal, in order to get as many different applications as possible." Juscelino pulled out a thin metal case from his pant pocket. "The main thrust was to replace hydraulics with a material possessing a superior power to weight ratio. However, the primary lineage is a quite bulky material that doesn't miniaturize well. This lacks a fair bit of the overt power but similarly doesn't have the macroscale structures that prevent small scale applications." The revealed object was a square patch of bright green material.

"Artificial muscle?" Wu Shan asked for confirmation.

"Yes." Juscelino became more animated as he talked about something he was familiar with. "The applications are rather broad, from toroidal rotors capable of adjusting their pitch to novel methods of propulsion based on biomimicry."

"Animal styled drones..." Wu Shan mused.

"Ray styled crawling mines or sensors, bimodal water-air units, or even just crankshafts for wheels that do not rely on magnetism." Juscelino agreed, plugging a data cord into his phone and into the patch of myomer via a port on one edge. "Now, I admit to being a chemical engineer and not a programmer so the demonstration I can give is limited, but with some basic signaling you can see that the material does work as advertised."

The patch stiffened and flexed, even applying force to a few objects placed onto it.

"I believe..." Wu Shan smiled across the table. "That we can do business, mister Quadros."

Tyrannous stood up from his throne, finally allowing the light from the primary star to shine onto him. His form had changed somewhat since he'd been able to bring back the Pilum from PJH - Tyrannous had taken a shine to the form and had readily adopted it as his configuration. Human-styled ordnance pods prominently stood out on his forearms, along with the stabilizer wings along his back. But the faceplate and those sinister optics remained - all configuration did was give him alternate methods to make things painful if he wanted to.

So Optimal Optimus in Rodimus colors. With David Kaye's Megatron voice?

Juscelino Quadros is an incredibly Gundam character sounding name.

I approve. XD

Does sound like something you'd run into during the Zeta era, doesn't it?

I think I used the first and last names of different Brazilian historical figures, so that is by no fault of myself.

This is also how I made some of the character names so far. (And only later realize that I inadvertently made historical references or shoutout expies)

So Optimal Optimus in Rodimus colors. With David Kaye's Megaton voice?

Quite possibly, yes.

You all know my love of mirror universes (and Transformers Shattered Glass in particular), so that's what I chose to run with when I envisioned these characters and then commissioned art for them. If Galbinus is a Generation Two-esque take on Megatron with a heroic slant, then Tyrannous is Optimus with a dash of Star Saber (from the Takara anime), albeit channeling some of Megatron's worst tendencies.

I can only hope his manner of speech comes close to David Kaye's performance, though, as I admit that his voice comes to mind first.

So does this mesh with the G.I Joe crossovers too? The DFRI being COBRA turned Good and the Westphalians being Joes turned Evil?

Also getting more wierd due to Starscream & Cobra Commander sharing the same voice actor. So who in the DFRI (Cobra) & the Legio Galbinus (Decepticons) have the same role/voice actor?

@Negation, this is a more meta question than I'm prepared to answer.

I would probably say Sam Carlson and Herald. If just to capture the JK Simmons conflicting voice range of excitable researcher vs taciturn analyst.

I actually almost feel bad for Tyrannous at times considering how borderline dysfunctional his team gets up to at times with their antics. Then I remember he's a vicious and irredeemable pirate warlord.

On the other hand, at least it's not as bad as it could be.

He does rule through the rule of fear and force, and it benefits him to keep his underlings as dysfunctional as possible while applying their talents at key moments and positions.

On the other hand, it does tend to backfire a little bit. He's a criminal leader as well, and the talent pool probably wasn't the most spread out it could've been.

Hmm... this is a sort of out there idea but making a Super Robot entirely out of high speed aerial vehicles like a Seeker squad might have some merit since if every component is that fast then they can respond that much more quickly as either an alpha strike or to stall things out for heavier metal to get brought in.

Maybe a couple of Golem Seekers or a particularly close knit flight squad psychically connected Gattaiing together to be greater than the sum of their parts too.

The downside would probably be the relative fragility for its overall size scale but it is a good balancer for speed at least.

Might be an interesting direction to take air support to its most extreme degree.

...I still want to look into making a Psychoframe analogue for our not!Unicorn Gundam.

And before you say Gundam is weak (looking at you Negation) I would like to point out that Psychoframe empowered antics can get pretty nutty in UC Gundam.

For starters, the Unicorn Gundam was able to disable an entire fleet of ships by essentially forcing the ships' engines backwards in time to a point where they hadn't been assembled yet. (Granted, the pilot of the Unicorn was essentially ascending to another plane of existence while he was doing that, but he managed to prevent himself from going through with that)

There's also Axis Shock, where the Nu Gundam was able to force an asteroid back and prevent it from colliding with Earth using the power of its Psychoframe.

And then there's the Phenex, which was able to move without thrust, and the pull the same time warp trick that the Unicorn did on a smaller scale, among other things, although that was being piloted by what is essentially a Newtype ghost...

It occurs to me, I wonder how similar looking Sheol's flying monsters are to the Pterawing from Dino Thunder. If we can copy it and make a chassis out of it. we could probably combine that with the T-rex chassis we already have and a Triceratops chassis that we probably also have to build. If we do go this route we are probably going to literally have to build those chassis from the ground up instead of converting something from something else into what the DFRI wants.

If we go this route, we are also definitely going to need a fourth and probably a fifth Dropship eventually to carry this unit and it's supporting units. There are three chassis that would need to be transported to a battlefield and the Dropship isn't able to carry more than a primary super robot with supporting unit that can combine with it, plus the supporting troops and whatever forces get sent along with it like the Seekers.

This whole subject has been on the back of my mind ever since that previous post about the Dino Thunder Megazord was brought up. If Power Rangers exists in universe, would the DFRI have to pay royalties for essentially copying the Thunderzord megazord with a trio of lookalike machines? I dunno but it's a bit funny to think about.

Then there is the Kausen, we know meta wise that trouble is coming with that inquisitor from Mekaen that may or may not be on our side. That mech is probably going to arrive within the next 5 or 6 months depending on how far out he is and how fast he is traveling. I am hoping that he is willing to at least hear Galbinus and the Human government out before he starts trying to arrest or shoot mechs or people. The jamming from the Free Brother's Oracle isn't going to help matters either unless one of the girls can get a signal to him about who and what she is and where they are so that the dfri can have a talk with him to get things straightened out.

Given that Perseus just got us an "armor unit" (Meta Mecha?) We can also turn the T-Rex into a "Mega Dragonzord" for both Beowolf & Perseus by combining both slavaged technology?

Infrastructure, Infrastructure, Infrastructure. I doubt those options for research will open up until we develop and distribute the Constructicons. I still want our base to configure and transform like the schools in the Eldran series. Then become Macross-class mecha.

This is probably the equivilant of Ravage arresting Megatron (Beast Wars).

I should have an update out in the next few days! Appreciate your patience, all. :)

Ahhh, Dangaioh. There's a classic throwback right there.

Another source of inspiration if you're looking for a purely flying vehicle combiner mecha is Superion from Transformers G1.

...I still want to look into making a Psychoframe analogue for our not!Unicorn Gundam.

UC era Gundam Newtypes were hilariously overpowered if the plot gave them the chance. Amuro and Char alone cast a long shadow that everyone following afterwards had trouble getting out of, but boy did they give it a good effort. (With lots of collateral damage, but hey)

Both are good!

And if we advance along enough the energy shield tech tree for offensive shield bashing purposes then we can literally detach fighter jet arms to parallel rocket punches too as another incentive.

I thought that only G Gundam was a Super-Robot show, and all other Gundam seasons were Real-Robots?

I found most Gundam series to be a bit sanctimonious and pretentious with politics, requiring "Space Magic" to sustain Earth Federation, leaving Frozen Conflicts everywhere without resolving the source of social instability.

We need more show like G Gundam IMHO.
Not flaming but. Of all of the gundam shows. I consider G Gundam to be among the weakest and worst one. Weak writing and sub par story. If they do make another one like it, I hope they at least bring in a strong writer and really make it a Gundam Super Robot series instead of what we got in G Gundam

Safe Harbor - Nobody Home
- 'Abandoned' Oil Platform
-- SCR-03E Thunderbolt, SAI-01 Ichiro Banner, 3rd Reconnaissance - Jackals, 1st Experimental Support Wing - V-33s

We're finally here! This will go up to maybe three posts total (including this one) maximum, as we've spent more than enough time away from the turn phase. I appreciate your patience all!

0915, 22 June A.D. 2073
Derelict Oil Platform

"Well, this place is creepy." Ichiro's words echoed loudly in his own audio receptors as he glanced around what could be only described charitably as a structure. The oil platform, having apparently gone long since unused by whoever had constructed it, creaked and groaned from the pressure as more and more of the Jackals began offloading onto the broad platform.

The V-33s of the First Wing were finding that they had to quickly learn how the cargo hauling capabilities of the V-33s worked in order to bring the mostly ground-based mecha onboard. After some good-natured grumbling - and some sheepish admissions that they might have glossed over that part in their training routines - they quickly learned how to work the cargo slings around the less delicate parts of the Jackals' joints when they were offloading them from the Sleipnir, which was only here for transport and logistics purposes before it could fully conduct its proper shakedown cruise. And for the given space available on the platform, there was only one minor incident.

Ichiro shook his head free of the worst of the ocean water and pulled off an errant strand of ocean-life-thingy, as the blackmail material was recompense enough.

"Isn't it?" Jessica was already armored up, the K-Suit contrasting with the gunmetal grey as she stood on the palm of his hand. Only the helmet had yet to appear over her head, and the sea breeze was ruffling her hair as she glanced over the whole structure. "Why the heck is this thing even still up? If no one's been using it for years, what's the point?"

"Noooot just years." Ichiro's HUD took a quick glance at the records, and his optics blackened momentarily as he 'blinked.' Not that he strictly needed to, but it just felt natural to him. "This platform was built in...2031. At least if I'm looking at this right."

"Lemme see?" Ichiro obliged by flicking the file to Jessica's tablet, and waited for her to read it herself. "...wait." She blinked, then looked back up at Ichiro. "This. This could have been our base!?" She spread her arm towards the rusting central hub on the narrow driveway leading from what they had to assume was originally a makeshift helipad once upon a time. "This rusting tub? I bet this thing tilts over completely if I so much as poke the walls with the Thunderbolt."

"Funny how things work, huh?" Ichiro agreed. "For all I know, I could've been a submarine or a computer unit or....or something. If I even would've existed." He did not spend too long processing that existential question, as he did not need to go the way Breaker apparently did. He'd never met the Legionnaire but he seemed to be a constant case study. "Because I don't see anywhere they could've made a Proving Grounds or anything like that, do you?"

"Weird." For all he knew, as Jessica's eyes unfocused ever so slightly, Ichiro could have sworn that she might have been contemplating her own 'what-if' scenarios in her head. Would they have run into Jessica and Cavalier in the same way-nope, not thinking about that. "Did the Jackals find anything?"

"Not just yet-" Both of them paused as they received alerts on their own respective systems. "Hold that thought. Let's take a look at what they just found." Purple optics flickered, before shifting to a dull orange, two focused beams of light appearing in front of Jessica as a wireframe diagram materialized. "There's only so much space to go around, but they found what looks like a cargo elevator." In the middle of the rusted out central hub, a few of the Third's Jackals' signals were congregating around what looked to be a dead end. In some instances, it looked as if they were simply floating, standing over what should have been an empty space - or the raw oil extraction, if the old schematics were to be trusted.

"And Occular's signal is..." Jessica blinked as she saw the last known recorded ping from Occular's signal. Once again, where there should have been nothing but ocean, Occular's ping appeared to be resonating from a more cavernous locale. "Right down there. Where nothing should be."

The wireframe cut out, and Ichiro's optics reverted back to their purple hue. "Submarine pen?" he ventured. Kneeling down, he gingerly lowered his palm so that Jessica could hop off - her armor probably could have handled it easily, but no sense stressing the platform anymore than they already were, it felt like.

"That's where Occular snuck into and got us into this place to begin with, so sounds like a decent bet," Jessica agreed. "You want to head down there? Or should I?"

"I've kind of had too close an introduction to seawater as is," Ichiro grumbled. As he stood up, even more errant drops of water - and the occasional fish - showered onto the platform, the water giving off a metally echo. "But I could go down with the Jackals. You might have an easier time up here with the V-33s, given you can fly around and all that."

"But it also might be a bit cramped down there," Jessica mused. "And there's no telling if the Westphalians or whoever owns this place actually comes by wanting us off their very rusted and out of warranty lawn."

Ichiro hefted his arm, and the Centurion cannon slid neatly onto his forearm, the warm, red glow of the refined Blaster technology emanating from the end of the barrel. "Not exactly a depth charge or anything, but I'm pretty sure I could poke a hole into a ship," he agreed. "But let's decide quickly before events overtake us, yeah?"

By necessity, the V-33s will remain outside flying around the platform as overwatch. The few Jackals from the Third Reconnaissance will board the cargo elevator and venture down where the schematics insist nothing exists. But who goes down, and who stays above?

[] SAI-01 Banner - Stays above ground
[] SAI-01 Banner - Goes underground

[] SCR-03E Thunderbolt - Stays above ground
[] SCR-03E Thunderbolt - Goes underground

"Funny how things work, huh?" Ichiro agreed. "For all I know, I could've been a submarine or a computer unit or....or something. If I even would've existed."

He probably wouldn't have, as it was finding the AI in the code hidden beneath the lab that lead to our first AI and the subsequent ones.

Would've been a very different quest indeed without the AIs.

Just finished reading through the threadmarks and sidestories, good stuff.
