Super Robot Quest G

Both Gus and Phil stumbled backwards in shock as the arm moved. Where before, it was a struggle to simply lift the damned thing, now its arm raised as readily as Mercury V's might have. Yet far from celebrating, Gus stared slackjawed at the machine, as the almost skull-like visage of where the cockpit would be on its head seemed to stare past Gus, the red lights of the Fulgur Particles glowing from its eye sockets-
Well, I've got mixed feelings on this one. On the one hand: Yay, it moves now! On the other... kinda concerned about how it'll move now that it's capable of doing so. Hopefully it hasn't been driven insane by continuous exposure to Fulgur Particles or whatever.

On another note: If we tipped off Mander to this Westphalian supply base we seem to have discovered, how would he take it? Like, would he count it as us doing him a favor by locating a major target for him, would he count it as us owing him a second favor due to us asking for Valiant's assistance again, or would it be neutral due to him counting it as both?

At least I'm sure we can deploy to that and the Galbinus thing simultaneously even with only one dropship, since the Enclave is just a short drive away so Beowulf can get there on his own.

...Speaking of the Enclave deployment, think it would be a good idea to try to take another Free Brother down during their jailbreak, or should we just let them all get away wounded? On the one hand, fighting to down them would help sell that we're really trying to stop them, but on the other they might decide that Bandit isn't worth dying for.

Well I guess we know what the next mission for our Super robot teams is going to be once the legion is done with it's trap. I think we may be looking at a duel Super Robot mission where both Beowulf and Perseus go and visit that location with help from the other groups or members of our own teams along for the ride.

Or we let Anna take care of it, that works too since she is a spy and this would be something she would need to deal with.

Well that was spooky, could someone explain how dangerous is getter robo. Not familiar with the series
I'll be honest, I'm only slightly more familiar, but I can tell you that the pilots are batshit insane (which makes it incredibly dangerous all on its own, because you have no idea what they're gonna do). Think at least a few continuities are technically cosmic horror stories, too (and sometimes the cosmic horror in question is Getter itself).

For context, one of the pilots of Getter Robo used to be a terrorist who was forced into the cockpit at gunpoint in some continuities, and is capable of cutting someone's face up with his bare hands. In one of the movies, one of the pilots sacrificed himself by detonating the Getter Ray reactor, and the ensuing explosion took out, like, 75% of NYC. Also, the explosion itself was...weird.

Also, Getter Rays are a sentient, cosmic force that spans across the multiverse, and its number 1 priority is to do evolution stuff, NO MATTER WHAT. Which can lead to strange and horrible things happening if the stars align just wrong.

So yeah, there's a few points of reference.

Briefly popping back in to answer a question or two, but:

Most folks have answered already, but Getter Robo is an interesting title. On the one hand, it's among the big classics of Super Robot anime, but you'd have a severe case of tonal whiplash if all you saw was the original airings of, say, Getter Robo or Getter Robo G. The original manga it comes from as was mentioned was decidedly more nightmarish. (And in some cases, also over the top batshit insane awesome) There's a pretty big difference between the pilots in the anime as opposed to their original versions, but recent shows and OVAs have gone back closer to the source material. (See: Shin Getter Robo)

The scene involving the Fulgur Particles was somewhat inspired by the latter parts of this custcene from the PS1 game Getter Robo Daikessen.

And as others have also mentioned, I figured it was a waste to not bring back some of the early game options that were available to you before. I'll be including some hints as to what you could have had in that alternate timeline.

WARNING: LONG EXPLANATION INBOUND

Getter Robo is a Super Robot powered by Getter Rays, the physical manifestation of the Getter Entity, which can best be described as the very concept of evolution incarnate. Normally, Getter exists as nothing more than a form of cosmic radiation, spread across the universe, driving evolution onwards. When concentrated enough, Getter Rays can vaporise most organic or inorganic substances, fuse machinery and flesh and undo such fusions, cause some beings to either simply melt when exposed to even a small dose (such as the Dinosaur Empire) or uncontrollably evolve until they explode (like Invaders). Since Getter is aware, it effectively chooses how organisms react to exposure - it likes humans, and so we die only when exposed to so much of it that it destroys everything in the area indiscriminately. Conversely, it has rejected the dinosaurs, and so even a tiny increase in the amount of Getter Rays around Earth nearly ended their civilization. Sometimes, Getter chooses specific individuals, granting them great power. The cast of Getter Robo are such individuals. They're also all completely insane, though whether that's cause or effect is unclear.

When the Dinosaur Empire (or Invaders, or some other enemy depending on the series) attacks humanity, the genius Professor Saotome constructs the original Getter Robo. Originally designed to use the omnipresence of Getter Rays to explore space, Getter Robo is composed of three jets, which assume different forms depending on the order in which they combine. The Getter Team eventually defeated the Dinosaur Empire, but in the final battle, Musashi Tomoe, pilot of Getter-3, sacrifices his life by detonating the Getter's reactor, vaporizing almost the entire Empire in his last moments.

Some time later, the Hundred Demon Empire, which had a lot more than one hundred members, also attacked Earth. To oppose them, Saotome designed Getter Robo G, which, unlike Getter Robo, was designed from combat from the beginning. After many battles, the Getter Team once more emerged victorious.

Some time later, in expectation of a new threat, Professor Saotome began to design a new Getter Robo. However, this new Getter was of such vast might, that even overloading Getter Robo G could only fill half it's reactors needed supply of Getter Rays. At that moment, a mysterious, insect like enemy appeared. The Getter Team took off in the new Getter, which despite being only at half power still exceeded G like the Tsar Bomba exceeded Fat Man, but the new foe unleashed several insectoid monstrosities that attacked the lab below, killing all they found. To stop them, Benkei Kuruma, Musashi's successor, gave his life as well, overloading G to obliterate the enemy...

...and that was when things got weird.

But he'd done his homework about increasing the strength of the hull to ensure it could adapt to it - and he'd actually come up with a rather elegant solution to sliding in additional armor plates, with the option for the odd zirvitium patch on critical systems.

Wilde and Henry
Perseus Combination w/Sledder(s): 6, 5, 3
Wilde: It works! Now-
Henry: Why are Jiro and Lana barging in here with truckloads of equipment?
Minor Perseus interlude to follow.

Westphalian Configuration Analysis w/Wilde and Henry: 3, 4, 2
Wilde and Henry are intrigued. They haven't found anything new, but they're realizing that someone has been cribbing a lot of notes from the Jackal and have come to different methods of making Configuration work.

Build Team
Pegasus-class construction w/Build Team (Anthony's Idea): 4, 5, 6
Anthony: Good luck hurting this thing!...what are we calling it, anyway?
New Pegasus-class completed. Increased durability with only a slight reduction in speed compared to the original. Pending name.

Jiro Yukimura
Rockets - Support Module Delivery w/Jiro: 5, 5
Jiro: Rocketry isn't exactly my thing, but I tried to make it work off of Katarina's notes. As long as you have a Hound or dropship ready to launch these things, it'll deliver. Someone other than me might want to look into this further though - I think this thing could launch even bigger things into the fight.
Disposable rocket units with timed lifespans developed. Potential for greater development in future.
New Engineering Option unlocked.

OSHA Compliant Chest Blaster w/Jiro: 6, 5, 6
Jiro: Lana! I need to hook this up to a Super Robot frame right now!
Minor Perseus interlude to follow.

EAI-01 Lana
Experimentation: Pilebunker: 4, 6, 4
Lana: Find the Duo! We can hook it up to Perseus!
Minor Perseus interlude to follow.

Sledder Weapons and Utility (Power Augmentation): 6, 6, 3
In calmer news, the Power Pack configuration for a Sledder is going quite well. Lana suspects she might be able to upscale this to a Combined Super Robot as well, but she has one last thing she wants to try before she confirms.
One Turn Remaining.

Boris Igantov
Drone Support (in combination with Greg): 5, 6, 3
With your approval, both Boris and Greg begin to scour the MEF pilots on station to begin getting enough personality data to upload into the upcoming Seeker Drones. These apparently take far less time than a proper AI personality, but both are insistent on the same safety measures.
One Turn Remaining.

Base AI Development (Mary McCullough as template): 5, 2, 5
AI-02 is online. And you're honestly not sure what you expected. Mary seems amused, at least.

RE: Engineering.

So, Perseus fought and fought, until it could fight no more, but now we accidentally made it even stronger than we could possibly imagine?

Is Beowulf jealous now?

Dammit. Can't find one that works.
Reupload to Imgur. Direct links to fandom wikis are blocked, also fandom/wikia as a corporation are assholes.

Well, I'm kinda snickering at how Jiro and Lana reacted to making what promises to be a revolutionary breakthrough in Super Robot weapons in exactly the same way (MUST. INSTALL. NOW!). Is that just me?

Incidentally, this should help with my concerns about Perseus being under-armed, even if it can only use its new weapons while combined.

And while the thread had basically agreed on calling the new dropship Sleipnir, I'm not sure that's appropriate for a relatively-slow-but-durable unit. If you ask me, I think we shouldn't limit ourselves to mythological flying horses (though we should limit ourselves to mythological flying creatures); I kinda like the idea of calling it Hippogriff, for now at least.

so been wondering is our major up for promotion soon? seeing there is talk about him leading more then one super robot team?

Please ignore the crazed hysterical laughing from my direction guys.

Is Beowulf jealous now?
Just wait until we can give it those same upgrades. Hell I'll bet very good money that it's already anticipating them and glaring at any of us through the fourth wall that will thinks that it can do without them. Me, I'm all for giving them to him and more.
Can we recruit an Aeronautics engineer?
That might be worth looking into. I second this idea folks.
