[X] Tell them the short version and offer them a choice between being taken on-board disarmed or dying with the ship. Take those who agree back to the shuttle. Once aboard, elaborate on their condition and our plans for them and give them the time and agency to choose between that or standard Imperial policy (i.e. Emperor's Peace).
-[X] Scan each of them for genestealer infection, the uninfected, if any exist, are fine. The rest, quarantine, so as not to spread the infection further.
-[X] Ask Marvel-Ann about the possibility of willing, living subjects aiding in the creation of a cure for the recently infected.

Here's the thing, we don't actually know that there's no other choice. That there's nothing that can be done to help them, etc, etc.

What we know is that no other choice has been made, and nothing to help them has been done.

This is the Imperium, for fuck's sake, so I approve of a vote that saves at least some of them to be studied... even if those studies show that they can't be left alive and will have to be killed, at least we can actually try rather than just going, "There has to be a good reason that the Imperium hasn't been compassionate with the infected, there must be no way."

...that said, I don't approve of the votes that mention sterilization and a vow of chastity, because they're premature. They're currently going to be on a Space Marine ship, so we don't actually have to sterilize them until we're sure that'd actually, y'know, work to stop the infection.

If we sterilize them and then find out, whoops, they can still infect people and we have to kill them, then we'll have given them hope and suffering alike for no reason.

This is the vote that is closest to what we want. I think that sedating them is a mistake, in the sense that the time cost is not worth the extra 'safety' felt. I'm pretty sure I don't have to write-in an addition of 'Tell the Space Marines to be extra careful around them, and willing to shoot those who attack in a controlled manner' or whatnot. But we could add that?

The fear, though, is losing out because of splitting the vote.

In light of new arguments, I am switching to the following vote. I would prefer to at least try, after all.

[X] Tell them the short version and offer them a choice between being taken on-board disarmed or dying with the ship. Take those who agree back to the shuttle. I mean, there's chapter serfs on those ships. If the infection does something like also give them the urge to reproduce in the absence of a Patriarch (unlikely, but not something I would totally rule out), it could cause a lot of problems. Also, I am not sure any vow of chastity will be like...very effective. I mean, have you seen those IRL?

We can quarantine them. Isn't that part of the plan? Obviously the Space Marines will tell the Chapter Serfs not to break the quaratine. Most sources have Chapter Serfs with a pretty positive (by 40k standards) relationship to Space Marines, so.

I also literally am not voting for the version with a vow of chastity.

As to an argument I'm sure will start up soon: Twenty disarmed civilians (even if all of them choose to go) are not a threat, not even to Praxis, owner of a Hellpistol, a Displacer Field, a powerful knife that makes their terrible combat stats even worse, light but effective body armor, and more combat experience than all of them combined.[1]

[1] Yes, she's a wimp by 'our' standards, but she has multiple Skill specialties, tactical knowledge, weapons, armor, and is pretty agile.

Stop: Make that Official
make that official It is currently Sufficient Velocity's policy, under Rule 4 "Don't be Disruptive" to enforce GM/QM decisions to expel posters from their games, so long as such a ban is not motivated by sexism, racism, or other discriminatory motivations that would violate Rules 0, 1, and 2. Per that policy, Tisaku has been threadbanned at Open Sketch's request:
Hey you know I've just decided that Tisaku isn't welcome in this thread anymore. Drive by spelling corrections with a side of fascist apologetics isn't really what I'm here for thanks.

Switching to this. Not because I think this will work, but I do think this is in character and will get us some sweet, sweet RP.

Even an absolute amateur can land a lucky shot and kill somebody, so I am exceptionally not into the "they cannot be a threat, they are mere baseline humans" line of thought.

Additionally, I am not sure how Brood Mind works. For all we know, taking them with us gives Patriarch a real-time marker beacon of our location. And at any rate, Brood Mind likely means that there are no uninfected, as even one infected likely has given the information on hideout to the genestealers.

We're disarming them first.

An absolute amateur can not in fact land a punch that goes through body armor, a displacer field, and an experienced Inquisitor.

You're currently catastrophizing as an excuse to not even try. Like, the Imperium says there's no other way but to kill them, and as we know the Imperium never makes hard decisions as an excuse to not even try.

From visible weapons.
Do we have time for detailed search? Do we, like, burn their clothes for expediency and to be sure? Short of that, we cannot really be sure, and every second wasted is a potential death of actually definitely not infected Space Marine.
Should we trade lives of those who are almost definitely doomed for lives of uninfected Marines?

I mean, again. If Brood Mind is a thing, it's all sort of pointless, as genestealers knew about the hideout for a while now, quite likely. Well, again, depending on how it works.

Again, this is catastrophizing. These are civilians, not elite operatives. The infection influences them, but doesn't suddenly make them deadly super-combatants, nor does it provide them secret hidden weapons.

E: We also have a Space Marine looking. You think they won't know more than we do about, like, that sort of shit?

I've been convinced. Though, what do we do if Ann says she has no use for them/she thinks a cure is incredibly unlikely?

They are dead men (and women and children too) walking, not civilians.
Like. They are infected. We are going to kill them. Anything other than offering them time to pray to Emperor is just prolonging their suffering.

The only other option of any point is looting them for experiments, as live specimen. That's....not really any more humane, but I can see how it can be useful information for both Inquisitor and Biologis.

We'll cross that bridge when we get to it. But at that point, we might actually be forced to simply offer them time to pray and a merciful death? But we do that when we reach that point, rather than just assuming we're already there.

...I completely disagree with your dichotomy here.

I mean, they're all infected except any kids who are too small to successfully infect and too big to breastfeed. There is a risk on the transport but honestly the more I think about it the more sure I am it's marginal. Keep a wall of Marine between them and anything important and pop a void suit on us and Marvel-Ann just in case the displacement field elects to do something really inconvenient. I don't really think we'll find a cure and I think we'll have to kill them all in the end, but I could be wrong and we should throw the dice on that hope. Apart from anything else we walk away from this with 3RP if it works, 2RP if it doesn't and 0RP if we just frag them and run.
