Starship Design Bureau

Thing is, Yoyodine does continue to make progress. Learning from one's mistakes is an important skill, after all, so by that measure Yoyodine is learning faster than anyone else!
You mean they are learning how to make more advanced explodium Nacelles. They started out with ones that just might explode when going max speed and now decades later their design does explode when you use max speed. Their gradual Improvements are clearly visible! Now they just need to make sure the next gen explodes under cruising speed and we are golden.
You joke but the Voyager-J's warp nacelles are literally disconnected from the rest of the ship.
Please tell me you are joking. PLEASE!!! Why would any one think it is a good idea to have a vital part of the ship just float beside it? That is not only stupid but wastes power and space to keep the tractor Emitters active in order to keep the nacelles on their position.
It's a good thing the antimatter storage won.
No its not! This ship did not need 4 years independence or a Industrial replicator. We could have Instead used the wasted space for two extra science labs. That would have brought us to the Sweet Sweet S+ Science to make the class the best laboratory in space!

It's a Long Range Science and Exploration ship.

If you want the most possible labs in space make a space station.

It can build deployable feild labs.

As much as I don't agree with you on much, I do agree that this is stupid as hell.

Doesn't the dumb fungus warp cause the nacelles to spin around the ship or something?

Entirely different ship. That's the standard Discovery, which has it's nacelles firmly attached, a contra-rotating saucer, and then spins on it's own axis to jump.

You can excuse a lot with techno-babble. Maybe allowing the nacelles to be fully surrounded by the warp field is more efficient, maybe the detachment allows you to adjust their positioning on the fly.

It is the judgement of this report that the Endeavour meets these requirements. Details follow.

I wonder what we'd need to do to get a ship rejected. Can we even manage it?

The Endeavour is equipped with a secondary deflector dish with integrated scanners. Her isolinear computer system is capable of standard computation and data storage, supported by subnodes with bioneural gelpacks. The Endeavour has an extremely sophisticated set of forward and lateral sensor palettes and laboratory facilities for onboard analysis and research.
Shouldn't this be the Bio-gel? Also since i couldn't comment on previous update.

Strike Three you're out Yoyodyne! Seriously though, we need to think long and hard on ANY prototyping involving the Nacelles given track records. Frankly i'm glad we didn't take them on the Ulhaan given how this turned out.

I have problems with Discovery, but I always thought that looked neat, personally.
It looks neat, but it makes no sense whatsoever.

Visually, it looks at very least very different, but it doesn't really tie into the wordbuilding, or even the character interactions. Like, the interior of the Discovery should be bizarre with it's contra-rotating system, but I don't recall it ever being acknowledged. It is just a graphic.
