Cardassian Ship – Durable, uncomfortable, close, cramped and cheap. Thinks creature comforts are for other people and technical sophistication is for people who haven't spent decades starving to death. The fact that the starving could have been avoided if the government were less...you know, monstrous doesn't seem to have occurred to that many of them.

Okampan Crew – the crew are bright, perky, cheerful, and incredibly psychically powerful. Individually, they're all better than Vulcans, and as a gestalt? Who knows!

That might not preclude them from making a deal with the devil, if said devil can change the past to bring a world back to life. Further, even if they use force, we have a Sovereign-class battleship, not an Intrepid...

That assumes that the Kazon would believe the Voyager crew when they claim that they can go back and time and prevent a world annihilating tragedy. Most powers in the Alpha and Beta Quadrants acknowledge that time travel is a real thing, but they have the benefit of being able to prove it with their science.

Depending on how primitive the Kazon are they will not believe in the possibility of time travel. The Vulcans of the 2150s certainly didn't believe that time travel was possible even when provided with evidence, albeit suspect evidence because Captain Archer, that suggested otherwise and they were a fairly advanced, heavily science oriented, warp capable civilization.

Furthermore if we assume the Kazon are more willing to talk in the quest compared to canon, then we have to consider the possibility of the Nistrim having made contract with Relora. Voyager made clear to them that giving up their technology was not acceptable and they may have passed onto the other sects that Voyager is a threat in need of eradicating.

Ultimately even if the chance of a fight is on the lower end of things I would rather not take the chance of inviting a space battle while attempting to science a solution. Star Trek is chalk full of episodes where the simple solution gets horribly complicated by the arrival of enemy combatants.

Simply getting people to and from the planet's surface becomes exponentially more difficult in the presence of an enemy because starships must lower their shields to use their transporters.

Frankly, we have a time limit as it is, after which we'll be moving on and getting out of the area. Yes, the Relora might think we're a threat, but if we're going to move on in a day anyway (and are heading to someone else's territory), is it really worth it to fight us and possibly take substantial losses while doing so? And well, while we do have advanced tech, we do also have more advanced capabilities when it comes to masking our energy signature, which if they're hiding from the Borg might be something they're interested in (and possibly something we'd be more fine with trading away, compared to something like replicator tech)

[X] Plan Mad Science and Bad Ideas
-[X] Try and find where they're taking C'nola
-[X] Break out (fists - hard)
-[X] Fish through Amy's records to build a device to make the portal one way
-[X] Scan the planet to figure out what the origin of the Tachyon Shockwave was

Fewer players makes for a simpler game. Definitely could miss out on info, but I don't trust folk claiming there's a fire without doing some independent verification (why I'll likely burn to death). I could see governments and Kazon being a bit leery of taking us at our word. Also I don't want to let folk know we can time travel if they'll be alive to remember it. That's the sort of loose end that would make people chase us for a long long distance.

So, normally, I'd ask for rolls, but this is an extended skill challenge for Amy, a combat for C'nola, and a skill challenge for the crew!

I'm gonna just...roll all that myself, if that's...OKAY!?!?!?!?!?

TIME AND AGAIN (1.4)
Amy hurried out of the building, into the bustling streets. She saw the city as it was, before it had been destroyed. She gulped, shoving a lump down her throat. Was...if this was a pre-warp civilization, did this mean she had to follow the Prime Directive? She had been only out of the academy for a little while, but...she was pretty sure this was PD territory, right?

She shook her head. She would do what she had to do, then...if it meant her career was over, so be it.

She sighed. "Okay," she whispered. "Lets...lets...just hope Catra doesn't do anything stupid. I just need to find...the..." She paused, then stepped over to a nearby man in what looked like a cop's uniform. "Um, sir, do youuu know where...I could talk to the...President? Maybe?"

The cop blinked at her.

Five men walked around C'nola. One of them was in a rather formal looking suit, but the other four were all armed. They marched her through the corridors of the large, fortified building that they had hustled her towards the instant they had pulled her from wherever she had arrived in. C'nola sighed, then said. "Well, at least I tried."

The man leading the way glanced back - then gaped as her restraints fell from her wrists. She grinned, wiggling her fingers at him, then sprang up, cocked her legs, then kicked off his chest. The man stumbled - she was fairly light - and the half-caitian flipped over the heads of the entire group. She landed, skidded, then pulled her phaser from where she had hidden it. The guards, reacting quick, swung their weapons around and she aimed her phaser at them, thumbed down the trigger, and a blast of orange-white light exploded from it, sweeping out in a cone.

All five men dropped, nerveless.

"Fhew!" C'nola said, twirling the phaser. "If you guys were stun resistant, I'd maybe broken a sweat."

Alarms began to blare throughout the facility and C'nola hummed to herself, putting her ear to the wall. She listened, shook her head, then started to sprint forward. Three men came around the corner just as she reached it, and she kicked up, ran along the wall, and phasered them, one after the other, with a series of three bursts. She landed, skidded to a stop, and then put her ear to another wall - and this one sounded right.

"All hands, converge on sector two! The alien is escaping."

"Luck be a lady...toooonight," C'nola sang softly to herself as she changed the dial on her phaser with her thumb. She pulled the trigger down, then swept the phase up, left, and down. "Luck be a lady..." She spun and kicked. The rectangle she had phasered out of the wall collapsed outwards, revealing a large wall and stunned people at the guard post. She grinned, then sprinted forward. She moved on hands and knees, leaped upwards, vaulted over the wall, flipped, landed, and then was rushing away before the guard posts on the towers even started to swing their weapons around.

Well, that was fun, C'nola thought as she sprinted into the warehouse district. Fucking chumps.

A security camera slowly swiveled, to track her, as she slipped away.

"Doctor patient confidentiality-"

"Is waived when six billion lives are on the line," Janeway said, her voice firm.

"Medical ethics cannot be waived," the EMH said, sticking out his chin stubbornly. "It's not a part of my programming, and Captain, I'm shocked you'd even consider it."

Janeway frowned, then pinched the bridge of her nose. D-91 spoke up. "Might I offer a suggestion, Captain?" he asked. The two commanding officers, since the plan would require a certain edging around ethical rules, had taken it on themselves to be the ones involved. It meant the medical bay was quiet, save for them and the holographic doctor.

"Yes, feel free," Janeway said.

"You are in a unique position, Doctor," D-91 said. "A similar one to my own. I am also originally a holographic life form. While you are not yet Turing compliant, you may become so given time running and adapting to situations aboard ship - consider this as one of those situations to begin to push you towards full sophonce."

The Doctor rubbed his chin, thoughtfully. "Being self aware would be rather pleasant..." he said. "I would be able to take pride in my accomplishments. Offense at being commanded to act unethically...annoyance in being interrupted!"

"Isn't that something only a self aware being could think?" Janeway asked.

"You would be surprised," D-91 said, while the Doctor shook his head.

"But I won't allow this," the Doctor said.

"What if there was a way to do this without violating medical ethics?" Janeway asked. "The problem is the privacy. Well, fine! You have access to her medical history - all we need is the quantum distortion effect that Lt. Strong has - that's it. You isolate that in privacy, then send it to us. No one will have to read anything more in her file."

The Doctor inclined his head, his bald pate glittering slightly in the lights of the medical bay. "And I suppose, once I have finished this medical miracle, you will expect me to stand on one leg, recite pi to a thousand digits..." he said, dryly.

"Only a hundred," Janeway said.

"That is what humans refer to as humor," D-91 said.

"I'm aware of that," the Doctor huffed. "I wasn't laughing because it wasn't very witty."

Amy, after an hour, was ready to take a break. She found a bench, sat down, and groaned. She hadn't made any major mistakes - no blabbing she was actually an alien to a bunch of people who might panic and stuff. But...she...okay, she might have misjudged that, since, at the very least it'd get her before people who actually believed she had something important to say.

Though, it was awkward as hell to just...

Walk up to people.

Strangers, even!

Her feet ached.

And she was afraid of being yelled at, when the whole world was going to explode in...twenty three hours now.

She sighed, quietly. "Just sit tight Catra," she whispered.

Two tracked vehicles with heavy boxes on their back shot by, sirens blaring and green and white lights flashing on them. They looked like they were full of heavily armed and armored first responders. Amy watched them go - it looked like they were shooting through the city towards the warehouse district. Amy bit her lip, then groaned. "Please, please, please don't be Catra..." She said, standing and jogging after the armored carriers.

When she came to their destination, a lot of people had gathered at a cordon, and were being kept back - while the armored and armed men and women set up heavy weaponry and searchlights, which all shone at a warehouse that looked as if it was completely surrounded. For just a moment, she saw a very familiar silhouette peeking out of a window on the second story and groaned.

"Catra..." She whispered.

***
"Captain, I have a report for you."

The EMH interrupted Janeway during her reading of the proposed subspace message that they were preparing to send to the Kazon Renlon. She lifted her head, then turned to the wall screen in her office.

"Give it," she said.

"I have made quite a bit of progress on the replication of Lt. Strong's quantum condition. However, I required information only available in her childhood medical records, which led to a minor problem," the Doctor said. "She doesn't have any."

"Excuse me?" Janeway asked.

"I dug around and all I found was this."

Her wall screen flashed up an incoherent mess of garbled code and data. Janeway frowned. "Thank you," she said, then tapped the communication off before the Doctor could say something smug. "Tuvok, I need you."

Tuvok and her both looked at the screen for a long moment. Tuvok nodded, slowly. "Captain, I believe that Lt. Strong's records are under Class 12 Starfleet Intelligence encryption."

"This ship is rated for Class 10," Janeway said. "Why did we get these files at all?"

"Presumably, someone in Administration has made a, for lack of species specific term to use, sentient error," Tuvok said. "It does raise one unsettling question."

"What was Lt. Strong's childhood..." Janeway said, slowly.

Tuvok nodded. "...there is an alternative possibility, albeit, remote."

"What is it?" Janeway asked.

"This classification could be forged. It is possible to replicate similar encryption, with the right resources and efforts," Tuvok said. "That would also explain why it was copied - there was no flag in the metadata indicating it should not be copied." His hands were clasped behind his back as he turned to face the screen, frowning at it. "In which case, there is something in Lt. Strong's past that she very badly wished to hide, but did not wish to risk deleting."

Janeway frowned. "Six billion lives are hanging on this..." She said, quietly.

"We have at least some of the quantum condition - enough to create the device with some difficulty." Tuvok said. "If we wish to risk it."

CURRENT MOMENTUM: 0

What do on ship? Yes, they will contact the Kazon, it just...it needs votes about this complication!

Adora getting help is a per hour roll, as is the Voyager's actions, so Catra goes first!

MOMENTUM PILE: 0

STARFLEET
Catra spends 2 momentum to negate the complication of "bound wrists", spends a minor action to charge for area, then makes an attack, getting 3s! Since she's within close reach, the diff is +1, but that's fine. She gets 5 damage and 4 effects, stunning all five of her guards.

SECURITY
The commander of the security station, looking through cameras, tries to create momentum by making a diff 0 command check. He gets 3s, gaining 3 Threat, which he spends to send three reinforcements to the scene.

STARFLEET
Catra uses a minor action modulate and phasers them! She gets 2s, which is a hit! She gets 6 damage and 3 effects, which means all three are stunned.

SECURITY
The commander, stunned gives orders to shut everything down, which to create a complication. He gets 1s, which doesn't create a Complication

STARFLEET
Catra will create an advantage! She gets 3s, which succeeds with 1 momentum. She creates the advantage of "big old hole" and then spends 1 momentum to take two minor actions, which are to move to long range of the prison compound.

SECURITY
The commander rolls to try and track Catra He gets 2s, giving her the "Tracked" complication. But for now, she's out and away free!

Action time! Everyone's on the same timescale.

Catra is facing a work 5, diff 2 (+2 complication range from being tracked), resistance 5 stealth check with 0 breakthroughs. It's relatively easy to find Adora, if she can succeed.
Adora is facing a work 15, diff 2, resistance 2 social check with 1 breakthroughs. She's gotta work hard, but if she does really well she can skip to the top.
Ship is facing a work 25, diff 1, resistance 0 science check with 3 breakthroughs. It's all about time!

HOUR ONE
Catra: 0s. She skulks around, but gets an 18, which means she also gets the complication of "cornered in an abandoned warehouse."
Adora: 0s! She's not even sure who to talk to
Ship: 4s for 3 momentum. They get 7 damage, which nets them 1 breakthrough! With their 3 momentum, they roll again at +1 diff and get 2s and a complication! They get 5 damage, which means a 2nd breakthrough, but get the complication of "classified data" by rolling a nat 20!

We pause here for some votes!

@DragonCobolt I have to ask. Did you make these characters explicitly so you can have Catra and Adora expys or did you just realize that you had the opportunity to do so after they were picked

Best be cautious. In character I'd hope our crewman doesn't immediately show her cards. As soon as you see troops you should be afraid at how far things have escalated and that primitives can be twitchy and superstitious.
