Here's a fanart I made of Zaiyu (I have ideas for Shayin, Rose and Sasori, but they might not happen.)
So, character archetypes that could show up:
The Mysterious Protector: Literally mentioned in the intro. Also, it was stated that Zaiyu would have male rivals (the first of which was supposed to be Sasori but then we befriended him). Will possibly challenge us not only on the battlefield, but also on the romantic side of things. Might be Kaoru.
The Animal Mascot: honestly, the fact that we haven't seen one yet makes me think that if we do get an animal mascot, it's going to be similar to Tokyo Mew Mew, where it's not sentient and is a monster/magic detector more than anything else. Or Ren might stick an AI into it and we get Robo-Kitty or something.
The Social Circle Filler: never more than three or four, and usually only one or two, these are the Molly/Narus of the story, the people who the MGs talk to at lunch. They have a tendency to get captured a lot, and mostly talk about the MGs's love lives, whatever rumours might abound or make commentaries lampshading events.
There might be a few other recurring students to interact with.
The Weekly Victim: They show up, befriend the MGs, get attacked by the monsters because of some problems they're currently having, get rescued, have their problems solved, and then are never seen again. Quite a simple concept, actually.
The Siblings: Zaiyu doesn't have any siblings (as far as we know), but some of the MGs probably do. Whether younger or older than the MGs, they have a tendency to be male and to annoy their sisters.
The Parents: Apart from Tomoe's dad, probably won't be a major part of the story. Their typical job in a Magical Girl story is to be fooled as to the MGs's actual activities and either be supportive of their children or annoyed by their poor grades/behaviour.
The Veteran: Mami Tomoe, Sailor Venus, Tsubasa Kazanari. MG who have been doing their job before the mascot even approached the protagonist (but never defeated more than run-of-the-mill monsters, never a Big Bad or a Lieutenant), they have a tendency to be pretty jaded to one degree or another. With Tomoe being the first to have a Hope Amulet, we're probably not going to see this archetype, but the mention of humans historically wielding magic makes me think some human mages might still be around…
The Wise Old Grandmother: Always ready with pithy, encouraging advice, and some nice food, the Grandmother will often be revealed to have been a magical girl in her youth. Probably not the case here, but still, potential magic users…
The Teacher: Either a woman who complains about her love life or harps on the students, or a man who has the eye of his female students, the Teacher will be a major part of any school stuff Zaiyu gets involved with, and will otherwise be a nonentity.
The Princess From A Magical Land: Weird girl from the Magic Kingdom/the Alien Empire, etc, arrives on Earth. Not always a princess but often is. Becomes a member of the MG team, and often is passing a test of worthiness by doing so.
The Incompetent Villain: Always a subordinate of one of the Big Bads, they are often a prime target for redemption, should the Big Bad not toast them first out of sheer annoyance.
The Formerly Sane Scientist: Used to be a good person, before his daughter died/got sick/something. Now he's making monsters and trying to bring about the apocalypse. May be found working for Tomoe's dad.
The Vamp: An adult woman with a skimpy costume, this minion is sometimes involved with her male boss, and otherwise acts like any other Lieutenant/General.
The Brainwashed Minions: Often the generals of the Big Bad, these former heroes have been corrupted by dark magic, presumably because there's a shortage of high-qualified minions for the Big Bad's plans
The Older Woman: This is a Big Bad archetype. Tends to sit around ordering her generals to do, unlike the slightly more proactive Titan. Is occasionally obsessed with beauty and having the heroine's boyfriend for herself.
Often wears clothing like cocktail dresses, but there are exceptions such as Darknest from Star Twinkle Pretty Cure.
