No she made a clone of her old self and sent that.
'Taylor Hebert' is the original. 'Hasumi Sakura' is the clone:
I was pretty confident that it would work, at least confident enough to continue. That did mean that after my cloned brain finished copying, I would have to expose it to the same genome-changing virus that I originally crafted to turn myself into Dr Hasumi. I had initially designed such a virus not to cross the blood-brain barrier because I was a bit concerned about intentionally infecting my brain with any virus, but I needed this Dr Hasumi clone to be completely indistinguishable, so it was necessary to have the same genome in the brain and cerebral spinal fluid.

Who knew what kind of in-depth medical examination "Dr Hasumi" might be forced into someday? Especially now that she was known to have a cyberbrain system which was popularised as a body-snatching implant. Realistically that almost never happened, but it would be what first came to mind to anyone who consumed popular culture.

She created the plan when she was just the original body. She thought she knew how it would work, but if you were her wouldn't you go through the extra steps to favour yourself, just in case you were wrong? She arranged it so that no matter what happened "she" would be Taylor Hebert again.

She made a Dr. Hasumi clone after having that guy put a cyberbrain into herself as Dr. Hasumi and then changed her original self back to her original body.

Hmm, the way I read it they're all 'her'. So even if she self destructed it shouldn't matter? as she'd still have continuity of consciousness through her other two bodies.

Well, that's the sort of thing that you can't actually test. So we'll see what happens when it happens.

It's possible I'm mistaken about which Taylor is which. I'd have to reread a lot in order to check.
But one thing she's been consistent about is the belief in the original self being the real self. Which is notable because grandma aster feels the same way about that. And also their reason for using kerenzikov is pretty much the same word for word. (Stealing more hours of effective life) I'm pretty sure that both of these things are to show their similarity as people.

People are treating the corpos like people. They aren't monoliths.
It is very possible that someone, anywhere really, on the Arasaka ladder, or any of the other corpos. Hired the hit.
There isn't anything to narrow it down.
She's just on the general corpo hit list. :V I'm certain every one of them put a hit on Taylor. If Taylor refused both Militech and Arasaka, there would be another one coming for her.
The first one could have been Arasaka as well, the second one too; just different executives of the corpo ladder. Could have been Biotechnica, could also have been the one she pissed off earlier who's name we already forgot - IMO that's most likely, he's got a vendetta.

I glanced down at the unconscious copy of me and sighed. Everything was already complete, and there was no point in waiting. Our brains were synchronised as of an hour ago, and the body had been unconscious since then. I verified that the sedative would wear off shortly and mentally hit the button that would cause the real-time two-way link to start.

Immediately, I was overcome with a feeling of almost vertigo, and I was certain that something must have gone wrong, but then I realised that the body was still unconscious, so I was feeling the dichotomy of being conscious and unconscious at the same time. It wasn't pleasant, but thankfully it was very brief as I opened my eyes.

I grinned at myself and had my existing body help my new one stand up.

"Hello, first body," my new body said, which caused my first body to reply, "Hello, new body!" And then, both laughed.

This was on the same level as holding both hands up to each other and making them "talk" to each other like they were puppets; it was nothing more than a joke. That was actually a very good way to describe how I was feeling right now, as if each of my bodies was a limb, but of course, it was much more complicated than that.

Yes, I would definitely have to move slowly with this, but this was exactly what I wanted! I seemed to think much faster if I focused all of my thought power on a subject, or alternatively, I could think about two completely unrelated things simultaneously.

"Welp, it's time for you to get into the tank, first body," I said to myself, still playing along. Perhaps I should stop. It would be weird if I developed a habit of talking to myself and answering. So I just disrobed and got into the tank. This would be a fairly long biosculpt program, but there was no need for sedation as I would just follow my other body with my full attention for the moment.

That little "Welp, it's time for you to get into the tank, first body," tells otherwise.

So, Taylor has a 3rd clone she sent into Space, who is doing Technical things. But.. what happen to the one she replaced? The former Hannh?

If Taylor legitimately had every corp headhunting her aggressively, there would not be a lull of two weeks between kidnapping attempts. The second corp would have seen the first failing their attempt and rushed their own attempt or assassination a day or two afterward no matter how amateurish to avoid losing her before someone followed up with a professional snatch - like this one that happened two weeks after the first.

This last attempt does not look like a rushed attempt or someone scrambling, not a hair on her head was harmed, they had (limited) inside information on her implants and biology, and the team that ended up with her even had her government-certified passcodes. It looks like a professional extraction team's mindgame.

Not to say Militech shouldn't be snatching her up, her tech IS that valuable, but Arasaka stole a march on them and sometimes when that happens it takes weeks or months for a response from mega-corporations. Militech might not see how valuable her tech is because they're distracted by dat sweet coastal algae while Arasaka does, and Biotechnica gives no fucks because they'll just reverse-engineer things or buy from Arasaka if needed.

Keep in mind this is a consumer product that will theoretically be sold to everybody anyway, so there's a dollar amount on how much it's worth disputing the patent. You'd only go to such expensive extremes for Hasumi if you needed an expert for some other highly technical neurology experiment... Like trying to make Soulkiller actually do what it's advertised to do, for example.

She's been made completely unrecognizable. Their deal was that Taylor would make it so that nobody who was hunting Hannah down would be able to find her, in exchange for Taylor getting Hannah's entire identity. Hannah(Taylor) has gone into space, which is a believable move for someone who's fleeing pursuers, and so everyone thinks she just ran away to be an orbit person. Real Hannah is basically in "witness protection that's good enough that even your DNA is different", and it's likely that we won't see her again.

That little "Welp, it's time for you to get into the tank, first body," tells otherwise.
Because she had to alter her original back from the Hasumi alterations it went through, she changed into a different appearance, then went back to full Taylor when she got back to NC. The tank is for surgical alterations, it's even there in your own quote at the bottom.
This would be a fairly long biosculpt program, but there was no need for sedation as I would just follow my other body with my full attention for the moment.
So she cloned herself, altered it to look like Dr.Hasumi, altered herself to look like neither Taylor or Hasumi, snuck back into NC and then changed herself back to full Taylor.

This story is so good you don't understand. I am like chemically addicted to this story. I need medically to receive this or I will implode.
I can count on a single hand the amount of stories that has ever made me this excited, and let me tell you, it's less than five!

It would be funny if this was a genuine rescue by Arasaka. They legitimately should be keeping a close eye on a Japanese national who invented a valuable piece of military equipment and breakthrough technology. Who knows, maybe Straighto! Hasumi has fans among Arasaka.

Personally I don't think it was an Arasaka plot if only because of distasteful sloppiness of deep fake video blackmail.
I think Japanese megacorp built upon Saburo's delusions of grace and grandeur would do better for such an asset.
No. If the theory is true, the mercenaries that made that video and got shot weren't Arasaka. They were the disposable goons Arasaka hired with the full intention of murdering once they pissed off Dr. Hasumi so that Arasaka would be in her good books. So, of course Arasaka wasn't supplying them with help doing things like making deepfakes, that would be suspicious. They had to do all that on the budget and resources they had available as disposable goons that were always going to be murdered.

They weren't meant to really succeed, just be threatening.

You must tell us of the other stories names, please? ;-)
You got it!
The Force Wills
The best way to describe it is if somebody took that idea that George Lucas had to make a Star Wars TV show about the seedy underbelly of the Galaxy and fully explored it from the perspective of Ahsoka Tano.
Harry Potter & The Skittering Spouse
What if Harry Potter drunk one night during a visit to Las Vegas got married to our favourite Brockton Bay warlord?
Will Of The Force
The man the myth, the legend himself, Darth Vader, moments before the Death Star blows up! Or maybe after? Shows up outside of a hospital in Brockton Bay!
A World Of Rotten Eggs
Do you like the boys? Do you like Dr Robotnik? Then you will love A world of rotten eggs. Truly showing what it takes too not just be a villain, but a supervillain!
(Honorable Mention) I Am Iron Man
While this is a pretty standard self insert into Iron Man, I do like the detailed focus of not just the, you know, day-to-day regularities of being Iron Man but, also the economy investment trying to stop the 2008 housing crisis, among other things, makes this a pretty enjoyable read if you're interested in those type of details.

Alright, so my take on the kidnapping goes something like this. As soon as they could I'm sure Arasaka bought some sleep inducers and started studying it. At some point, they realize the potential neurological effects of the device, which I'm certain immediately grabs the attention of those working on soulkiller/Relic projects to see if that tech could benefit them. Rather than directly go for the grab since she is a good little Japanese girl they offer her a contract for her work to further study it then hire her tech guy not only to get more technical information on the project but no doubt use his information to gain access to some of her system so a netrunner can monitor her more closely.

Following the first kidnapping no doubt they immediately realize that she will likely respond much better to a rescue recruitment than just another kidnapping so they move a team in to monitor her possible in the process also observing her new security person. Depending on if the security person left with the rest of the kidnappers he was likely grabbed up by arasaka and pumped for information while the rest of the team followed the kidnappers quietly to the safe house and then just had a ninja and netrunner sneak in so they can watch the whole thing and wait for the right moment. Realizing that nothing makes someone more eager to work with people than being saved from torture they gave the kidnappers a little time to build suspense then moved in the kill the kidnappers and rescue their new favorite genius. Add to the fact that they likely believe that her only friends in the area are now dead and for them this looks like the perfect time for her to return home.

So I'm thinking that between her work on that twin minds project she did and the possible implications of her sleep inducers effect on neural plasticity I'm betting they are going to be feeding her little bits and pieces of the Soulkiller/Relic programs to see what she might be able to add to it while carefully making sure she doesn't know what she is actually working on. Of course with her powers and advanced knowledge of soulkiller she will put it together pretty quickly. And when she decides it's time to leave Arasaka's employment what better distraction than all of Arasaka's old enemies showing up with new cloned bodies and a major chip on their shoulder.

As i mentioned on another site, there's something I'd like to point out in the whole "is/isn't a false flag" thing between Arasaka and Miltech...

Remember how, not too long ago "Dr. Hasumi" embarrassed a bunch of Intell Weenie reservists from the 40th ID. Military Intelligence?

I can easily see someone butthurt over that whole thing also having an "in" with Miltech and decide to collect some favors and revenge at the same time.

Meanwhile, Arasaka Ninja Local 213 get a cherry retrieval dropped in their lap that makes someone in Upper-Middle Managment's day.

I also suspect that they only saved her and offered a contract (Instead of going hard buying everything or/and kidnapping/torturing/killing her) because she's a traditional "japanese". As in she is a japanese girl that came from Japan. As pure as you can get. Unlike those new asians that are japanese but born mixed or just in other countries.
It would fit with Saburo's racism that he wouldn't want to throw a "pure" japanese under the bus unless necessary, though I'm pretty sure that there is 0 chances the polite Arasaka ninjas would continue to be polite if she went forward with either rejecting or creating difficulties on the deal. Millitech got sloppy there, they lost a client and a potential bussiness partner for a cheap attempt to get the tech for free. Ironically they could have just bought it out of her or just invested in her firm as a way to keep it from Arasaka but it also fits with their investigation finding nothing if they were the ones to set up tha catspaw that would later prompt the kidnapping.

Either way, Millitech and the NUSA are the real losers here as Arasaka won't share the best versions of this equipment to them now. It would be funny if V ended up under Hasumi's wing at Night City Arasaka, it also opens up David for a good career at Arasaka as being under the wing of a rising star (if she manages to become one) can open all sort of doors that would never have opened for a first gen corpo.

Right now David, Gloria, and Kiwi are making an escape to Night City and I really don't think they'd be sent back in a Hasumi direction unless she becomes so secure as an Arisaka asset that she's not worried about them being targeted or used against her.

I've got to say, Gloria is probably getting a bit annoyed at Taylor's drama upending her life, even if she has, overall, profited from their association and even if she really does see her as a friend.
