Skitterdoc 2077

Hah, actually the voodoo boys started out a a drug dealing gang of a bunch of white frat boys. Then some event, I think the upcoming unification war, ended up seeing a bunch of expats to night city who would have actually PRACTICED Voodoo who didn't like how they misappropriated their religion... well there was a "cleansing" of the former members and by 2077 you actually have people in the voodoo boys who actually are of that particular culture.
The sinking of Haiti happened before the Unification War, a lot of those refugees got service and construction jobs in Pacifica before the War, when the war started everyone knew the Free States were gonna lose, even with NUSA falling behind economically they still had one of the best militaries in the world. Add Militech to that and they basically had two, it's only Arasaka getting involved that stopped them from just steamrolling everyone.

But with the investors pulling out, all construction and tourism stopped, which means everyone lost their jobs. Add to the fact that Southern California pledged allegiance to NUSA and that Night City is right by the border and it basically put an enemy army to their South, which is exactly where Pacifica sits, so the NCPD pulled north to shore up defenses and left the poor now jobless Haitians in the district completely defenseless. Sometime before this the Voodoo Boys changed from their original form to the Haitian Netrunner gang we see in 2077, because they're the ones who brought a semblance of order to the district.

So after the war, when the NCPD returned to the district to bring order and get whole project back on track the locals with help from the Voodoos ran them out of the district. So sometime between the sinking of Haiti and the Unification War is when the VDB went from frat boy drug dealers to Haitian Netrunners.

Also, the VDB 'left their gods in Haiti' so they don't actually practice Voodoo, matter fact it's everyone else who calls them the Voodoo Boys, they have another name for themselves that we never learn.

You want to move into a larger apartment -- well, this is one. It's not as well appointed as the luxury units on the top five floors, but it is almost as large because it used to be a dual commercial/residential property. I believe it was a convenience store.
Future ripperdoc clinic get!

I was slowly learning how to edit the software packages and intended to put cyber hearts on a whitelist to ignore, but I either needed to get a list of all manufacturer IDs or some other way to identify them. Maybe just make a string comparison on the model name, and skip it if it included "heart" or "cardio" or similar? A regular expression, then? That would be a lot simpler.
Might want to keep a copy of the original software (or make a heart specific one) just in case she needs it. The ability to suddenly stop a cyberheart may just save her life, or others.

Thanks for the chapter!

oh other question now that this shard as acces to this dimention could it form buds?
It could, but it being a newborn separated from the Shard Network and its resources means it'll be a very very long time before it can get the point it starts budding. If it budded now, it'd basically kill itself. Matter fact this one Shard is starting from scratch (resource and size-wise, it has a copy of its 'parents' data) like the first Entities, except it doesn't have the advantages of the Entity homeworld. Namely it was in a dimensionally unstable area of space, so you go for a casual walk and end up on the same planet in another dimension, so they technically have hundreds or even thousands of 'homeworlds'.

It's how they got so damn big even before they ventured out to other worlds. So basically, by the time this Shard can bud, every character we care about will be long dead.

Baring a Corpo discovering the Shard and doing experiments on it. :D Which is just inside the insanity that you see in black ops projects.

"I've heard of this multi-world theory, and we need resources. Try to make a portal to another world so we can strip mine it."

Which is not necessarily a bad thing. Just find an Alt-Earth where the biosphere crapped out at some point in history, and you are golden. There is even a chance that deposits formed similarly to your own Earth, so you can save fortunes on prospecting and surveying by first checking historical sites to see if they match up.

That said, doesn't the Cyberpunk universe already has access to Asteroid Mining? Asteroid Mining is factors more lucrative.

True but anything around said Shard is being nommed on Von Neumann style, unlike Eden's corpse this a fully deployed and aware Shard. So whatever world it landed on is fucked, and if it 'deployed' like Shards usually do? Thats an extinction-sized mass slamming into a planet at very high speeds.

Plus, it could have deployed to any celestial body of significant size in the Solar system.

Yes, they toss asteroids from the belt towards Earth for mining using Mass Drivers, they've also used them as WMDs. Like when NUSA attempted to assert orbital dominance and the Euro-Space Council dropped a rock on Cheyenne Mountain and basically fucked the state of Colorado.

I find this story incredibly immersive. Like pulls me right in!
@SpiraSpira - I will wholeheartedly agree that this is one of the most immersive story I have read in a while.
Good job getting the feeling of the Cyberpunk setting, particularly the feeling of someone like us stuck in that kind of world.

Sitting down, one of the Trauma Team medics named Lilia said, "Hey, Taylor. ...

-SNIP

... That's worth at least three years in most other metros, he says."
I do hope Taylor pursues the Trauma Team path. TT has neutrality and respect.
Taylor, if she multi-class's sysadmin in addition to Med-Tech, she turn TT into TTT, Trauma Team Transplanetary. If she just so happens to turn TT into the 'Good Guys' while she is busy turning TT into the biggest business ever, well then, more power to her.

And the pigeon, who I dub Ser Peggy (pegleg pun), MUST become a pet/s.
Having a pigeon as pet Taylor would definitely be first in Worm fanfics.

By 2062 they're already on the downward spiral to this end.
Could Taylor do something to fix their downward spiral.

That pigeon is clearly a Sherkovs Gun, clearly there is a illegal bird smuggling ring, and that bird escaped, and clearly connected to Michiko Arasaka's illegal bird collection
Don't you mean Cherkov's Gun.
But if what you are suggesting is correct, Taylor could find herself in a stunningly large heap of bullbutter.
Of course, the heap only hits her after Arasaka kidnaps her to hide their illegal bird smuggling ring. And bullbutter hits in the form of the small group of Taylor's Militech and Kang Tao classmates teaming with NC independents and TT having a role to in the extraction operation. Tyger Claws and an ever-widening circle of operatives drawn from Militech, Kang Tao, and TT getting drawn into the hunt for Taylor Hebert, which turns Night City upside down and inside out as the situation spirals increasingly out of control.

I couldn't help but think of Taylor creating a gang of independent doctors or something called the Red Crosses.
That would be epic and I would totally be onboard for it.

Could Taylor do something to fix their downward spiral.
I mean, I don't really see how she could? The true Tyger Claw bosses live in Japan, plus they're a predominantly Asian gang, and Taylors not Asian so she'd at most be an associate of the organization with absolutely no say in how things are ran. Add in that some of the bosses are just as monstrous as the goons who go around committing a lot of violence, I mean Shobo? The Tyger who runs the Ho-oh in Kabuki, and has a XBD torture/snuff buisness?

Plus even if she tries there's still Arasaka to contend with when they come back, any progress she makes with the Tygers would be swept from under her feet. Honestly if she's going to get involved with a gang, it'd probably be The Mox when they pop up in five years.

At best, in relation to the Tyger Claws, she can hopefully keep the ones she interacts with as above board, but not the whole gang.

A reminder - there should be hundreds of gangs in Night City, not just 5.

Scavs are a type of person chopping up people, so it's made of whomever. The Tiger Claws got super big when Arasaka started using them as cats paws in Night City when they returned in..2068? 69?

The 6th are currently a Defense Gang in their neighborhood, I'm guessing they became big when Militech countered the Arasaka run Tiger Claws...

Animals don't really have a territory from what I can see, and honestly the Malestrom seem way too big - like they just put every chrome gang into one bundle.

Basically what I want to say is that there should be many smaller gangs out there all focusing on different stuff - and that Taylor could totally run one without any big deal being made.

The Mox are a small defense gang for one strip club. Taylor can run a gang for the street responders.

.....until Night City turns into the Corpo nightmare.

The Scavs are mostly Neo-Soviet immigrants. And basically, have a bunch of recruits from people fleeing the Neo-USSR for 'greener pastures.'

6th Street have been around since the end of the 4th War in the 2020s, a gang of vets, and because of this they have a constant influx of recruits.

The Tygers also grew large during the Time of the Red, as they also have an influx of recruits through immigrants and members from the main gang crossing over from Japan.

The Animals are more a bunch of different gangs (packs) operating under the same name.

Maelstrom is literally one of the oldest gangs in the city, that has changed a lot from nearly being wiped out a couple times and merging with a few different gangs throughout the years. In its current iteration it's more cult than gang.

The Valentinos have an entire religious and ethnic group to pull from, so long as you follow their beliefs and practice some of their culture you can be a member.

The Voodoos are currently frat boy drug pushers but will be taken over by the Haitian Netrunners who basically get all of Pacifica gift-wrapped to them in 2069-2070, and have their cultural group to pull recruits from.

The Mox run more than just Lizzie's Bar, they have turf in the NID and in Westbrook, especially Jig-Jig street. Where there's Joytoys, poor artists or outcasts there'll be Mox.

So overall that's eight major gangs, minor gangs don't really last long when the big boys have divided up the city and dug in. Like the Side Mission where the restaurant in 6th Street turf is robbed, at the mere thought being caught in their territory the little gang of thugs run.

Something I'm wondering about myself now that I think about it is if Taylor herself will get any more Chrome. I'm not expecting her to go wild, but it is something I'm curious about when it comes to what she might gravitate towards.

I imagine she will get a better cyberdeck eventually for security reasons but that probably won't be a important thing for the short-term, maybe after a run in with a hacker or something.

Ripperdocs do have their tools which is either chrome or a glove. I imagine she will perfer the glove with all her bio knowledge as that will make her partial to biological stuff unless it can't do it(like data links to the eyes and networked computers). But she will probably have to do some sort of bio mod on her nerves for stability when doing Ripperdoc stuff or surgeon stuff

Edit:Just did a quick google maybe the ripperdoc tools are all gloves, I could of swore one of the ripperdocs ingame had actual crome for their tools

I wonder how tinker-tech cyberware software would look to others, try to hack it and there is nothing standard or something. Im honestly interested on how Taylor would use her current medical knowledge to build some tinker tech then learn about how it works to slowly advance it and make better non-tinker stuff.
