Skitterdoc 2077

the fact that Johnny gave him the wrong medicine is gonna bite everyone in the ass eventually, isn't it?

alright, I wasn't sure on that front and got worried. XD;;

It doesn't have to be cortical stacks a
nd resleeving. It can just be modular cyberbrain ports in Gemini's. That's still Corpo end-tier stuff mind you, but you can get MOST of the way there if you just have modular sockets for the limbs and a "walk in closet" with autodoc swapping gear to switch out limbs / Gemini on demand.
IIRC, Fullborg conversion is kinda like that.

Yanno, the white-blooded enemies in CP2077?

A bit goes beyond that and you get fullborg.

And if we're using CP 2020 material, the predecessor of CP2077, that tech has already existed for 4 decades by the time of this story.

Still does, if you take Edgerunners, just about.

in fact, Taylor has an example in front of her. The biopods/brainpods for full borgs were designed expressly for the Dragoons to resolve their problems.

Taylor was worried the money was marked somehow by Biotechnica. If Todd doesn't spends the entire 20k on drinks tonight, if he takes some of it with him to LA and spend it there, Biotechnica will have a lead. Emma Barnes aka Taylor Hebert aka Madison aka Heartbreaker is hiding in LA. Lets hope Todd is a big spender.

I had the same thought as some people, wondering if her mom's side of the family was the one to provide the new identity.

Thinking further on it, it'd be kind of hilarious if after a year or two she came back to resume her identity and found out her original ID somehow finished medical school while she was gone. That'd be the real head scratcher.

More realistically, I could see her calling Wakako before coming back and having her set up a place for her to live, and possibly looking into people and places for employment. Her family could take advantage of the opportunity to make available, through Wakako, places they control indirectly, or even have her directly brought into employment of her family without her knowing. It's pretty much the perfect opportunity for them, and by now I think she's shown she's worth investing in by the family.

Taylor burns all her identities with this move. Except for the Emma Barns, woman of mystery identity, ironically. and Taylor Astor.

Taylor Hebert the super talented med techie leaves her corpo work the day after the Biotechnica deal and huge car crash. She also sells them her drug. Trauma Team will connect the dots. Biotechnica and Ruslan's contact should notice Taylor's leave too.

She moved various bodies in and out of her apartment. If her neighbors and Tygerclaws read the news they'll know too.

She put possibly tagged money in her net forum. I bet she goes dark when she assume her new identity. The Edgerunner community can figure out Madison the expert med techie was the seller in the Biotechnica deal and maybe that she's Taylor Hebert, good friend of the Tygerclaws and their Dolls.

Nightcorp control emergncy response I think. Taylor thinks there's evidence in the crashed car. They'll tag Taylor Hebert as a PoI if they connect the dots.

Taylor intends to return. But she can't return until she's too powerful to control or bag. If she create a Corpo she can be Taylor Hebert again in Night City. Otherwise it's too dangerous.

You vastly underestimate just how much stuff is going on in Night City at the same time. Tailor shutting down the clinic and moving after someone broke in and shot a friend is the obvious explanation.

The only loose end there is breaking her employment contract with Trauma Team. They're not going to want to let her go, considering how high value she is to them as an asset (a fact she has no means of being aware of.)

She's going to give them her letter of immediate resignation and be told "no, you can't quit, we won't let you." And then be very puzzled when they instead offer her unpaid psychiatric wellness leave. Indefinitely. (Because normally "we won't let you go" is couched in black bag operations teams...)

That was a fantastic follow up.

Wow, there was zero hesitation with an identity swap and Dex style exile to lie low.

I look forward to whatever misunderstandings and baggage comes with her new identity.

TBF She had been toying around with the idea for quite sometime, was practically guaranteed to happen since she replaced her hair. (Something along the lines of "If I didn't have moms hair, would I even be Taylor Hebert")
-

Oh definitely, no matter if the Astors were involved in the body or not, there's no such thing as a free meal and this sounds entirely too good to be true for Tay.

Would be funny if she inadvertently outright became another foreign spy, slowly but surely forcing the Astors to weep over the talent they let slip through their grasp. (Because ofcourse they would praise/blame Daniel, for his foresight, and his globe spanning reach.)

I would think that's more Eclipse Phase level of cybertech. Probably something the Trillionaires are experimenting around with, but not something available outside that.

IIRC Smasher had a wardrobe of borgs he used to wear before settling for this Dragoon body.

The point about a 'body wardrobe' (as some might see it) is that you can have any body in it, as biological as you like, not just a Gemini. Rather useful for impersonations, if you can handle the required acting and skills. Also, combat bodies - you want a rabid Cape Buffalo (200+ dead a year isn't bad for a herbivore...), with an integral autocannon - go for it!

And... from the story so far, her shard-let isn't a fan of full conversion cyborging - I'm pretty sure good amounts of biologicals to mess with is strongly desired!

I'm hoping Taylor's escape plans include cyborged pigeon fostering - maybe Johnny is willing to become the Bird Man of the Tyger Claws?

3. Taylor is showing herself to be extremely valuable to someone like Wakako with a range of skills that she could really use. Wakako has proven to be really useful to Taylor, so they have a great potential friendship. Together they have a synergy that I think they would both be able to see.
Let me refine this further.

Wakako has a unique relationship with Taylor that sets her apart from most people in their line of work. As a part of the murky world of mercenaries, Wakako is accustomed to dealing with people who prioritize their own interests above all else and are willing to take unethical or even illegal measures to achieve their goals. However, Taylor is different. She operates with a strong sense of honor and treats her associates with respect, never betraying their trust or stealing from them for personal gain. This has earned her a good reputation in the world of Cyberpunk, and Wakako has been keeping a watchful eye on her.

In addition to her integrity, Taylor possesses skills that make her a valuable asset to Wakako's business. She is capable of pulling off difficult and unique tasks, as evidenced by her creation of the drug they recently traded. But perhaps most importantly, Taylor has proven that she doesn't betray her friends for the sake of a quick profit - a trait that Wakako likely values highly in a world where trust is hard to come by.

All in all, it's clear that Wakako and Taylor share a unique friendship that is based on mutual respect and trust. Wakako is not like Dexter DeShawn and his cutthroat ways, she recognizes the value of having someone like Taylor in her circle.

This.

Wakako may be amoral as hell, and willing to do things that Taylor would never consider, but she is ethical. She keeps her word, she won't betray people and she honors the deal once made. Taylor does the same.

As you see in story, in game, and in Edgerunners, very few people do that in the edgerunner community, even the basic merc community. Jean and Rus aren't exceptions, they're sadly normal. Tempt them or others with a big enough score? They'll betray.

I think Wakako recognizes that she has something fairly unique in Taylor, and she's willing to stick her neck out a bit more than usual for Taylor's sake - rather than simply going hard to protect her own reputation, as is the usual practice of a fixer. But thinking of it like friendship or that Wakako would for even a few moments put Taylor's safety ahead of her own is probably a mistake. She would almost certainly burn Taylor if she had to. Though granted the line of "I have to do this" is going to be much further out than usual.

It's gonna be really interesting to see where this goes.

just a note for Spira. Double barrel 23 mm shotguns could definitely be a thing. IRL The current Russian models are pump action clones of an American shotgun with up to 7 rounds in the tube. Russian ingenuity. ;-) great job on the chapter. can't wait for the next chapter in the saga....

So, Team Trauma is a Med. Specialist. If Taylor works in Hollywood do they just mark it as a transfer?

She is moving out of NC, When she moves back, does she move back into the same place across the Cathouse as before? Did the Girls move on to Management or still work the Floor?

Is the one guy still a Simp for his Dommy Mommy?

I agree with half of this: Wakako definitely sees the value in Taylor, and also weighs her own potential rep hit for turning on her as for why she's working with Taylor. However, I personally feel she is just as cutthroat as Dex. She has enough skeletons to be poking out of her closet and far more buried within.

I suspect Taylor is going to have good relations with Arasaka now. And her return to night city will coincide with Arasaka making their glorious re-emergence.
:V when Tiger Claws become Taylor's minions.

"About ten ennies a day or less, but if you're on any kind of government assistance, they're included for free, but there are only certain brands you can buy and only from a few different stores. Unfortunately, my clinic is not one of them, as I do not have an actual business license. But the pharmacy and quick shop across the street are," I told him as I held his arm out and quickly started an IV before he could realise what was happening and complain about it.

Hiro looked interested, "Really? I never heard of that."

"It's a cost-saving measure, plus I suspect some bribery is going on. It's also not advertised. But you should be able to get them for free, as well, if you live in subsidised housing here. If you don't want the hassle, I sell them as well,"
Finally caught up. This was a bit back, but I think Taylor is specifically saying she doesn't sell what he needs, and then a paragraph later she does anyway?

Ask the italicized words are spelled wrong, but maybe that's an England-English thing?

Second!
Alt-Dad had always loved Kerry Eurodyne! The weirdest item was a broken wooden baseball bat, and I thought I could see some blood stains on it.

I don't think anyone else commented on it, but is this supposed to be Adam Smashers baseball bat from NYC? I vaguely remember he broke his bat killing someone in his street hood days, but I can't remember where. Might've been from another fanfic.

Anyway, absolutely loved the story, it's great. Gonna go read your Fallout one too.

Taylor's clinic doesn't give unemployment benefits or the like. Only government supported businesses give those. She sells for the full price.

I expected Taylor to examine the blood on the baseball bat. With her abilities it's easy to figure whose blood it is or at least his blood type, what he looked like, etc. If the killer left fingerprints on the handle she can figure their identity too. Shame. Taylor is no PI.

Alt-Dad's storage
Rent was pre-paid until 1 FEB 2068.
Taylor should be back before that. Let's just hope the storage unit isn't destroyed in one of the many violent altercations in NC.

Well Jean you avoid any terrible vengeance by Taylor because she cannot afford the distraction. You will just have to make do with the terrible vengeance Wakako and the tyger claws will unleash for pissing in their metaphorical ramen noodle bowls.

And they are going to want to make sure everyone knows about this one.

I wonder if there is a drink at the afterlife known as the dumbass. Only the name attached to it changes periodically because of there always being a new person finding a legendarily stupid way to die.

Maybe a drink called the 'Darwin', that you need the really good cyber kidneys to safely drink? That could even come in smaller (safer) glasses, and names move up and down the range (shown on a board behind the bar)? :)

And, to vote on changing where names are in the order, you have to buy (and personally drink) a 'Darwin'?

(Ripperdoc advert: digestive bypass to teflon-lined storage stomach, done cheap. You'll be able to drink a 'Darwin'! (Bioscanner wired into stomach, costs extra.))

Here are some suggestions for an improved, biosculpted physiology:

  • Consider enhancing the lungs to absorb oxygen more efficiently, while also filtering out harmful gases such as hydrogen sulfide and carbon monoxide. Additionally, having a reserve function that can maintain oxygenation of the blood for an extended period, even when fresh air is unavailable, could be helpful.
  • A better stomach that can break down food more efficiently, provide essential nutrients, and protect against invasive organisms and viruses can be a significant upgrade. This enhanced stomach could eliminate the need for most of the digestive system, freeing up space for backup systems.
  • Explore the possibility of having kidneys with a protective shell that can regenerate and function better, a second liver, a second heart, and a connected secondary brain in the pelvic area with improved shielding. These upgrades could result in superior performance and protection.
  • To ensure even greater functionality and safety, consider adding pharmacope and enhanced nano-surgeon organs to each of the organ systems, with built-in redundancy.
With these advanced body modifications, it would be possible to maintain a normal appearance while achieving a superior level of performance. Look Normal - Be Better ;-)
