Like, apart from Eggman family falling apart, I don't doubt his name itself was pretty much a black mark everywhere he went.
Like despite everything I doubt old GUN could cover up all those deaths and someone had to take the fall for that clusterfuck, so they probably also shifted the blame to Gerald for all the lost lives on that day.
We have seen what would have happened to Tails if Sonic didn't meet him back on that day, Nine entire life was pretty much filled with missfortune misstrust.
Starline being someone who was shooting for the stars but no one believed in him is pretty in character to say the least, still props to him, he not only managed to find the gem but also knows how to initially make it tick.

And if we REALLY want to make a point......if the old Diamond Cutters WERE still alive.....we could hunt THEM down....and imprison them. Either Whisper backs off....or she loses her team all over again.
Or we can find Mimic, and hand him over to Whisper.....and if we figure out any cyber-necromancy, we can just revive Mimic later as an obedient operative, ala Edo Tensei.
