Not really a fan of the winning vote from how impersonal it feels but eh.

Just sorta feels like we're asking him to hate us.

Still works, but depends entirely on how he reacts.

-[X] "...I honestly couldn't tell you. For all intents and purposes, there were other differences between our worlds than just you and I, like your Raido's scar, and Mom might not have even died to a Witch in your universe like she did here. I can't even really say I understand what you're going through because I've lost so much less than you, though I wouldn't say that your emotions are a weakness."
-[X] "As soon as I could hold a sword I trained to fight. Not to uphold any honor or pride, but because I saw how much losing Mom back then tortured my Dad. How much losing her back then hurt. So I fought so I wouldn't lose anything again. I looked for reasons to fight. Bullies, Drug Dealers, Liars, and scum of all kinds. I saved some, I taught a few, and I crushed everyone else without mercy. I remember every bone broken, every drop of blood spilled, and every scream for mercy that escaped under my fists. I fought and fought until Shoji saw me for who I was, and pulled me back. That was the life I lived before entering the world of Demons and Magic."
-[X] "If anything, it's you who's superior to me due to your sheer experience, but your ability to read people is worse than my own. As much as you need to keep your eyes on your enemies, you need to observe your friends even more so. The type of person they are, their motivations, habits. Even more important are shifts in behavior and addressing the cause before it pushes away the people closest to you and turn them against you. Could be anything from money, food, or even emotions like hatred or envy."
[X] "Honestly dude, I don't fucking know. It could be anything. Hell maybe it's cause I got front row seats to mom's death that I got more direct motivation to kick my ass into gear, while you got depression since you never had a proper target. Then again, the difference between our worlds probably go back to before we were even born. Didn't you say your Raido had a scar? I don't think there'll ever be a good enough answer."
-[X] "It was a Witch that got mom by the way. Had a puppetry theme. For whatever reason, that night I left the house and mom followed me."

1084: A Talk From A Bush
[X] Plan Backstory + Stop Dumping INT

You sigh, "...I honestly wish I could tell you. I mean, there were tons of little differences between our experiences besides just you and I, like Raido's lack of a scar, the circumstances around Mom's death, and..." You trail off, "...I can't understand what you're going through because--?"

"I wouldn't want you to." Yuki interrupts, his voice suddenly much calmer, "You don't deserve that."

"No one does." You agree, "But, that aside, I don't think your emotions are a weakness."

Yuki scoffs, "Tell that to my Raido."

You let that sit in the air for a moment while you figure out how exactly how you want to say what you want to say. Eventually, the words fall right onto your lap.

"You're not the only one who trained ever since you could hold a sword." You smile at the bush, "But it wasn't because of honor or pride or anything like that."

"It certainly wasn't to fight demons." Yuki half jokes.

"No, nothing supernatural." You chuckle a little, "I just... Saw how much losing Mom back then tortured Dad. I felt how much losing her back then hurt." Your face stiffens, "So I decided to fight so I'd never lose anything again. I started with little reasons to fight, like bullies and vandals behind the school, but after a while, I targeted the serious threats, like the Kuma Pack and their dealers. I saved some, taught a few, and crushed everyone else without mercy."

You can tell that Yuki had a snide comment to make, but he refrained from vocalizing it.

"I remember a lot for those days." You stare at the pond, watching the water ripple as the wind blows, "I remember every time I broke a man's bone, every time I managed to draw blood, every time someone screamed for mercy under my vicious assault. I fought, and I fought, and I fought for what felt like a lifetime until Shoji saw what I was through the violence and pulled me back. And that's the life I lived before Witches and Demons."

The air was still for a moment before Yuki responded with a simple "...Oh."

"...Yeah." You nod.

"I guess..." Yuki begins, "...We're both our own kind of fucked up, huh?"

"I guess so." A melancholic smile graces your lips.

"At least you had a reason to get stronger, though." Yuki says with a sigh, "The only reason I had was because it was all I knew. I just needed to get stronger. That way, no one could ever take anything from me ever again." He chuckles, and doesn't even try to stifle it, "The more things change, the more they stay the same, eh?"

"We probably get it from Mom's side." You offer a little levity.

"No doubt about that." Yuki responds, sounding a little more lively than before.

You close your eyes, going over the words in your head before you speak them, "You know, you've got a lot more experience in formal combat than I do, but you kinda stink at reading people. Like, worse than me."

"I can read people's attacks fine." He jabs back.

"Not attacks, not in a fight. I'm talking about..." You sigh, reorganizing your point, "You need to watch your enemies, yeah, but you also need to be cognizant of your allies. You know, what type of person they are, their motivations, their habits... Stuff like that. Once you recognize that, you'll be able to see when there's a shift in their behavior. That's when you gotta figure out what's going on, or what problem is weighing on them. Fix it, and that bond is solidified even more. If not..."

"...You get stabbed in the back." Yuki finishes, "I get the memo."

You nod even though he can't see you. Then, you just sit with him for a little while.

When were these established?
It was mentioned once when Yumi was making curry, then Kohaku added something and Yumi compared it to her mother's cooking.

I'll need to find the exact quote tho.

Edit: Was threadmark 501. I might need to re-word stuff since we didn't actually replicate it, just the closest we've gotten to it.
"Hey, Kohaku, did you add something while I wasn't looking?" You ask.

"Oh, I just added some extra spices and stirred it slowly. Why, did you not like it?"

"No, it's great! I just..." You stare at your plate, feeling your shoulders relax. It's...

The taste is nostalgic. It reminds you of...

...You smile sadly. This tastes more like Mom's curry than you've ever gotten.

Also, we could just establish it now lol.

My original idea for Yuki was to treat him like Alex in Strange Journey Redux, having him be a recurring antagonist to beat you up when you were in one single loop for too long.

...Well, not Yuki specifically, just a character to fill that role in an effort to fix his own broken reality. Obviously, that fell through when you didn't die at the start of the quest. I think that's for the best.

[X] I didn't know Raido was my uncle until a few weeks ago.

One of my favorite parts of this quest continues to be the fact that Yumi just refused her mandated death, and made that fact everyone else's problem.

1085: Curry Talk.
[X] "Curry?"

"...Hey, are you hungry?" You ask Yuki, who is still behind his bush.

"...Yeah." He replies simply, "I let Yuma eat my share of the pizza Sho-- Shimizu ordered." He hastily corrected Shoji's name like a verbal flinch.

"Cool!" You smile, standing up slowly, "...Mom really liked her curry here if you wanna go get some. I think there's some in the fridge--?"

"I'm fine." Yuki snaps, "...I'm okay. I can't... Curry isn't really my thing."

"Oh. Sorry, I--?"

"It's fine," Yuki mumbles, "I just... The last night I spent with Mom and Dad, that's what we... Just forget about it."

"...Hey, Yuki?" You step closer to the bush, "Curry's not the only thing that's in the house, I'm sure we can find something for you to eat. Maybe...?"

"How do you like your curry?" Yuki suddenly asks.

"Huh?" You blink in surprise, "I thought you didn't wanna talk about that."

"I don't. I'm just asking about the curry." Yuki stresses heavily.

"...Well, I was trying to replicate Mom's recipe for years, but then..." You smile warmly at the bush, "...Kohaku helped me get it just right. You know, I've gotta ask her what kind of spices she put in..."

"Sumac."

"...What?" You glance at the bush.

"It's sumac. What Kohaku put in. The spice." Yuki elaborates, "That's what Mom always put in. Well, just a little bit of it, as not to overpower the rest of the dish."

"You know a lot about curry for someone who doesn't like it...!" You offer a teasing tone.

"I don't like it." Yuki stresses, "I love it. I am just particular in how it is made."

"Well, then." You step closer, putting your hands on your hips, "...Let's get it right. For Dad."

At first, there's simply no response. Your brain immediately goes into damage control because you think you went too far--!!

Yuki finally stands up, his back and the top of his head covered in leaves. His eyes are reddish, and his sleeve has some wet spots on them.

"...For Dad." He says with a sad smile, "Yeah, I could do that."

-[X] If you get the chance, try to get Dad not to ask about Raido just yet.

Best I got atm.
