I present songs for the two JU ships I have a handle on so far

Is it, uh, intended that these are the same link to the same song, or were the two ships meant to have different ones?

I was rereading the New Dawn Meeting Side Issue and I may have to retract my theory on Steelheart being a technopathy masquerading as an Algernon. I didn't parse the fact that he was apparently a cyborg, which really shouldn't have surprised me.

So y'all think you could eat a behemoth , probably not one of the poison based ones.
I was rereading the New Dawn Meeting Side Issue and I may have to retract my theory on Steelheart being a technopathy masquerading as an Algernon. I didn't parse the fact that he was apparently a cyborg, which really shouldn't have surprised me.
Oh I also came across something read back some

> "Leviathan's Blood, Double L, is that it? Any other revelations? Did the Leviathan have a kid who's walking around? Maybe twins?" Handyman says.

Given some of our theories handyman may have just been Murphy's Lawed

You know, if we get the Global +1 to Reputation with Cenotaph, plus the +1s for everyone with Meet the Rookies, our lowest stat is going to be ESP despite the fact we're supposed to be specialised in it.

Im pretty sure+1 for meet the rookies is like a training action where chars have to pass dcs in order to improve their rep.
I don't know. I think that being publicly introduced to everyone in Horizon would help a lot: you'd go from "oh, who's that guy ?" to "hey, it's the new JU member that got introduced on the six-o-clock news !"

Couldn't sleep was doing some rereading

> Menagerie Witches mount snatches Jean-Luc's body as Lady Leizi

I forgot we technically stole his hole ass body

Just finished binge reading this quest since, uh, yesterday afternoon sometime. Excellent story, very much looking forward to seeing where it goes. Will maybe participate once my brain has had a chance to digest it all.

Added this to the FAQ, since everybody keeps on asking why we let Crusade happen. This is why.
Q: Could we have talked to Global Justice to prevent the rise of Crusade?
A:
Yes, but at a cost. Due to a lack of heroes, we only had 5 total AP between Issues 1-2. Only enough to take three out of the four timed missions, which would have cost 6 AP in total. Us voters simply didn't feel like negotiating with America (who were always shady) over helping out Opale, New Dawn, and Maddie.

While Crusade's rise was a consequence of letting Global Justice go, not taking the other timed missions would have had their own consequences. Letting New Dawn go would have turned the Uni District into goldnine hell, letting Four Seasons go would have had Opale murdered, and then we would have lost -10 REP, while letting Maddie go would have Petit Prince gain her as a metahuman.

Etrian Odyssey Untold: Prometheus Flames — SolarGemX New
Etrian Odyssey Untold: Prometheus Flames

Throughout this world there exist legends and tales, legends of beings of mystical proportions, tales of mountains of gold and silver, myths of world spanning kingdoms and event cautionary tales about horrendous monsters. To many these tales would be considered far to fantastical, Tales of massive labyrinth's filled with mountain sized monsters? Warriors capable of fighting creatures than could rend a man into twain with but a wave of a claw? Mystical items capable of healing even fatal wounds? Items capable of teleporting you vast distances? Fantasy and the words of nut jobs, but they are wrong my dear friends. Oh so wrong. Throughout the different continents like Arcania, Lemuria and others there are stories passed throughout the mouths of humans, Earthlains, Celestrians, Beastfolk, Therians, Yggdroids, Forestfolk, Brouni and many more, stories of Tress the size of mountains, piercing all the way to the very heavens or heading all the way below into deepest pits of hell, Yggdrasil. This tree in many continents houses a massive labyrinth, spanning floors upon floors, stratums upon stratums filled with all sort of items, vistas, and dangerous monsters. This stories call upon a sense of wonder, bringing adventurers throughout all corners of the globe, hoping to strike it rich, explore the secrets they hold, find glorious combat and more. But take head dear traveler, this is no children's fairy tale, of handsome princes exploring dangerous locals and having a jolly old time. Most adventurers, most guilds don't make it pass the first stratum of labyrinth, many green rookies think they are the next great thing and suddenly find themselves gored, trampled, devoured, cut open, burned and much worse. To be an Adventurer… is to know that death can come at any moment, you need to prepare, scout your surroundings, know how to survive in the wilderness, know when to cut your losses, always keep your equipment in top shape and know how to work together. Only then do you have a chance of survival… and even then, it may not be enough.

Month: Emperor, Day: 5
Time: 7:00 A.M, City of Horizon

As the rooster lets the world know of mornings first light, we find ourselves in small dark room inside of an Inn. The Drowsy Bear has been around since the inception of Horizon and has served as the resting quarters of plenty of adventurers, merchants and even Horizon townsfolk. Among those guest lies the Heroine of our tale, Lei Zixhuan, leader of the Guild Justice Unlimited. This powerful woman was an adventurer of some renown, and she was currently looking towards her room's ceiling, almost as she was staring at nothing at all, but in fact was in deep though, ruminating over everything she was told yesterday during her visit to the Explorers Guild.

Lei was a Veteran explorer, taking on some of the most dangerous monsters known to man along side her team. Originally, Lei was in a far-flung continent up towards the northern seas, exploring a newly discovered Yggdrasil Labyrinth alongside her friends. Their team was one of only two Explorers Guild that had managed to explore deep into that particular Yggdrasil's depths. Most Guilds don't make it far in the Labyrinth's, Making past the First Stratum would mark your Guild as Veterans capable of retiring due to their exploits, Guilds that made it past the second stratum were nearly unheard of, easily counted with two hands, those that make it past the third? They are considered Superhuman, Living Legends, the witch bards spin the tales of in songs. So you can imagine how famous they were when they reached the newly discovered 4th stratum alongside another Guild. The city they were residing in named it The Frozen Throne, a lost kingdom covered in snow and ice. Her team had Veterans, True masters of their craft (Rookie<Master<Veterans) with age, wisdom, and experience in droves (All members where around Level 50-58), they had money, knowledge, power, and skill; they thought they were prepared, but nothing could have prepared them for the Monster that they would meet, The Blizzard King. An almighty dragon that governed all that was cold a living natural disaster made flesh and thanks to an Overly GREEDY government, which thought they could exploit the work of the two guilds, decided to mount an expedition, nay a small army, inside of the Labyrinth, trampling all that they saw, which caught the attention of said Natural Disaster. While they were "merely" adventurers both guilds sought out to be heroes as well, and went to save the unfortunate soldiers, while many were saved, most of them died, including the leading perpetrator of the movement… and all members of Justice Unlimited, except for Lei Zixhuan. The massive dragon tore through the ranks of soldiers and clawed, froze, and devoured all that they came across (The team was powerful, but The Blizzard King is a SUPERBOSS, something that should not be confronted unless you are at minimum level 70-80. It was… a fight they truly could not win). Lei woke up a week later, still slightly injured, and with much of her power lost (Level 55à Level 10). She wandered aimlessly for a time, only fighting some enemies in the first stratum in order to reach ends meet, but a letter from the Explorers Guild in Horizon called for her specifically, something about a legacy left by one of her teammates, Nora Kim left for her.

As the days passed Lei finally made it to Horizon's Explorers Guild, and met Joelle Chaucer, the acting director of the Guild and head of Hiring. Lei was an acquaintance of Chaucer thanks to Nora, and after exchanging pleasantries they got into the meat of the situation. Nora had left Zixhuan the knowledge of a secret project she was building alongside Chauncer and The City's Governor, a duo of individuals only known as The Bitter Prince and The Sweet Princess, honorable leaders of the City and close friends of Nora. Lei Zixhuan became aware of the Yggdrasilian enhancement project… also known as Project Prometheus. This project entail using the blood of fallen adventurers and their armors and weapons, alongside a mysterious substance known as Goldnine, in order to infuse new adventurers with the powers and skills of their predecessors. The strength of an Imperial, the Knowledge of a Zodiac, The luck of a Farmer and Valor of a Hero, among others. Frankly, Lei was stunned, not knowing how to feel about the methods, wondering why exactly was the project created in the first place. Notes from the governing bodies shed light to that question. In the last decade or so, there's been a pattern of Truly legendary Guilds reaching all the way to the utmost depths of the Yggdrasil Labyrinths, and each one contain secrets that could change the world as we knew it, but more importantly, each contained a God like monster in their depths, beast of such power than even the mystical Dragons like The Great Wyrm, The Storm Emperor and The Blizard King paled in comparison, ant the sovereign bodies were nearly sure that horizons Yggdrasil was no exception. Tales of a mighty demon only known as the Leviathan, were told for centuries in the city and the worry that the day such a beast manages to escape the depths of Yggdrasil and lay waste to the world, spurred the creation of the project, hoping to create a new breed of Adventurers, Heroes.

With this knowledge, Chauncer and the Rulers of Horizon wanted Lei Zixhuan to lead the charge of the new generation, as by the wishes of her late teammate. Lei considered the things shown to her, Heroes… beings that could surpass even Veteran Adventurers, Exemplifying the strengths and skills of late adventurers, perhaps even developing new strengths and abilities that not even Adventurers with two classes (Main Class and Sub Class) would have. (FYI Lei Zixhuan is a Pugilist/Zodiac combo).

Lei Zixhuan could only say this in response:
"I will do it; I will lead this new generation. Not because of sense of duty, but in honor of my team, and the fact that I will not let this knowledge fall in the wrong hands, something like this stays with only those we can fully trust. I want every document you have on this project and all of the possible candidates, I will appraise them personally, and I have the final say on what the team does."

Chauncer smiled and affirmed that they would be surprised if you would have had it any other way. We will meet again tomorrow, with the necessary documents needed for you to make your choices.

Present time:

Lei Zixhuan
: *Deep Breath* Alright… time to do this, its time for Justice Unlimited to be reborn. If you are watching me from up high, you guys? Wish me luck…Ill make sure your legacy is never forgotten.

Authors note: Oh hey its been a while huh? Nearly forgot how to make these…

Anyway say Hi to a new omake featuring a little gem of a game I like called Etrian Odyssey, in this world Lady Leizi would be in charge of a new Project Prometheus, were you take the blood, armor and weapons of fallen Adventurers, that were miraculously recovered, mix them with magic and Goldnine (I wonder where its coming from?) and create super Adventurers with Talents, Skills and potentially even new powers from them. You could get new powers like with canon Project Prometheus, but you could also gain Skills from the different classes the Ambrosia is made of. So while you could be for Example a Hero/ Zodiac (I think Mona would fit this. Also I see MW as Wildling/Arcanist and Opale as a Protector) could get skills from classes like Driver, Dark Hunter, Sovereign, Buccaneer, Shogun, Night Seeker, Medic, etc… Making some outrageous combos if done right. (Mix /Maxing two classes and then adding possibly bonuses that synergize even further from potentially 3-5 others? Superhuman at their finest).

Everyone. Before the next chapter comes out, I'd like to tell everybody something.

I think I know who made the R-Train. More specifically, which Algernon made the R-Train. First off, though…

What Is The R-Train?
Well…
The R-Train is the main reason goldnine hasn't proliferated unchecked throughout the world. It is also the reason most Behemoths will never get anywhere near Horizon. It is automatic, unfeeling, and uncompromisable. It has enough firepower to level nations and the ability to continue on indefinitely.
But also…
Lady Leizi: The R-Train is unrelenting, unfeeling, and provides a vital service to Horizon and the world writ-large. It's also the single-greatest metahuman-created construct ever created. Popular belief is that it was made by an Algernon-type who used their power unceasingly for a month straight until they hit the Rebound. That person was the "Trackmaster". Anyone experimenting with goldnine will inevitably come into conflict with the R-Train. Better, perhaps, if it is on our side.
And…
Then the R-Train came, and for a second you felt hope. The titantic myriad arrived, synthesizing unit after unit. A platoon of bipedal robots the size of skyscrapers marched forward in a swath of destruction in defiance of the square-cube law. Wicked drones in the shape of a sphere with cruel, whirling blades reduced living creatures to red mist. Tripods taller than the Leviathan raided death down from the heavens.

So, what is the R-Train? In summary, it's…
  • An autonomous construct, which can create more of itself at will.
  • Created by one Algernon, known as the Trackmaster.
  • Has complete knowledge of where the goldnine goes, with the exception of Monarch teleporting it.
  • Really, really big. But also can come in many different sizes,
  • Defies the square-cube law.
That last part? It's really important. Because by all accounts it should not be able to do that.

What Is The Square-Cube Law?
Galileo said:
The idea that if something is made bigger by some ratio, the cross sectional area increases as the square of the ratio, but its weight increases by the cube of the ratio, so the ability of the thing to support its own weight gets worse as it gets bigger.

Or to make that simpler: the bigger something gets, the larger its center and weight must get as well. So as something grows larger, it needs more energy+stability to not collapse in on itself.

This has been seen with some of our other Prometheans. Most prominently, Rhys.
"Yes, he can control his size as well. Like The Outsider, anything smaller than his base form will be proportionally denser. But his ability to grow has no limitations except the square-cube law. He was able to reliably get to about twenty feet in height before moving required his body to be made of materials too brittle to be of use."
So, Rhys could grow larger, but he'd need to make his clay harder so he wouldn't collapse back into goop. Makes sense. So what the fuck is the R-Train doing?

Those are moving robots, and ones that are actively being constructed and deployed on demand. There is no reason why they should be able to do that.

Unless of course, they weren't made of a material which was bound by the square-cube law.

But before we can narrow it down, we need to take a detour.

Rebounding Out (Or: Why Nora Was So Cooked)

The Rebound causes a few things, but one that we can be sure about is that it causes a slow deterioration in memory. And Nora (Valiant Silver) was barreling head first towards it.

We know that her best suit, the EXCEED, ran off of her Algernon. At a startling pace.
All of this happens in the space between heart beats. You feel blood vessels burst in your eyes and the capillaries shatter in your nose. If it weren't for your power, the sheer calculations needed to control the psychic force from the Stage would have already caused an aneurysm. As it is, every second is another year off your life. You can only keep this up for moments longer before your body fails completely.
We can conclude that this, alongside the ADHD, caused Nora to get absurdly close to Rebound-induced death. But who needs conclusions? We have Bitterman for confirmation.
Nora was too far gone. Had she been the PC, there would have been a point where she was going to die no matter what.
So, Nora was cooked. And for reference, she was around Lady Leizi's age. 31. Let's assume that she would have lived for 12 issues, so that's 32.

Assuming that the average lifespan is 85 years, that's about 50 years of Nora's life, gone. Think about that for a sec.

So, Nora represents the high end of Algernon. But… that makes everyone else small in comparison. Like, think about it.

Ibis made freaks of nature (affectionate). Anodyne would be the greatest healer in the world if he wasn't a fucking douchebag. Steelheart was part cyborg and created his own robot armada. Even Gus, Rhys's boyfriend. Gus barely used his own power. And Gus still made metal that could reflect lasers. And holy fuck, Qsanyin did like, everything in medicine.

And with the exception of Qsanyin, we've never seen one of the above people have any signs of Rebound. The only reason that Ibis is that crazy is because of Petit Prince related symptoms.

So. We can assume that while Nora spent 50 years, most of them have only burnt up about… 25? 30? Maybe 15 in Gus's case. Heck, even Dr. Ibis still has plenty of time on the clock!
"No," Ibis replies distractedly, "I'll need weeks to refine a new dose of Ambrosia."

"Wha—weeks? Doctor, you created Mona—er, Black Swan's dose in two days!"

"Yes. And I had to use my power to do so. Each dose of Ambrosia involves having to carefully balance several mutagenic profiles that a simple mind like yours couldn't even dream of. If I keep making doses at that rate, I'll have to use my power every time. If I do that, I'll hit the Rebound in two years."
So, thanks to Dr. Ibis's estimate, we have a quick shorthand. 24 hrs of Algernon= -1 to -5 years.

And how long did the Trackmaster take to make the R-Train?
Popular belief is that it was made by an Algernon-type who used their power unceasingly for a month straight until they hit the Rebound. That person was the "Trackmaster".
What I'm saying is that it's likely that the Trackmaster used the majority of their power on the R-Train, but still had a good bit left for other things. So, we can conclude that the person who made the R-Train was likely an active hero, since its purpose was so generous and necessary. One that could have died at about Nora's age, but of other causes. Non Rebound-related causes.

So, The Trackmaster Is…

The one Algernon everybody admired even more than Valiant Silver. The one Algernon who specialized in the one thing that would allow the R-Train to exist.

Algernon-type. Specialized in hard-light constructs.
If tech like that exists, it's not commercially available.
He was also Japanese and anti-capitalist as hell

Valiant Red made the R-Train.

It only makes sense. We never heard of Valiant Red making anything more than maybe a lightsaber and the obligatory Kamen Rider/Power Ranger suit. Because he poured all his eggs into one basket. The R-Train.

With this, we can now confirm what the R-Train is.
Replicating, inorganic, hard light constructs. And since they're made out of light, they won't collapse under their own weight. Powered by Algernon Clarktech, and either clean energy or the ever-increasing goldnine. Made by Valiant Red so that nobody, no corp, would ever abuse goldnine for their own ends.

Oh god, my head hurts now. This must be how Wolong feels.

I...

... wow this unironically makes me upset with Stockpile more, since he's trying to steal the legacy of a chad like Valiant Red-

That... wow that just... how long did you work on this?

I came up with it an hour ago in the shower.
A yes the shower. The weirdest yet most commonplace to get weird ass ideas. Brought to you by shower thoughts [tm].

Edit:
Honestly i think half of my Behind the Hero ideas came while I was in the shower... wait was it only half or was it...
Uh...
Huh...

I thought that it was a brain upload situation because of the whole "it's not entirely technology, Moon River couldn't hijack it" deal
I mean, all of Steelheart's stuff seemed to be controlled to his brain/cyborg body, so there's a chance that the "heart" of the R-Train is part of Valiant Red's Algernon head…
