"I think we should pick Mr. Rhys! He has a higher tolerance to Ambrosia than Mr. Rhodes, which means he can be given a stronger power. We're still dealing with threats on all sides, so we need more heroes with versatile power sets—which Mr. Rhodes won't have if he can only take a low-potency dosage. Also! With Dr. Ibis' recent breakthrough, we'll be able to raise Mr. Rhodes' tolerance over time to ensure we get the most out of him."
While I didn't vote (because I forgor) I would've voted for the same reason as Maddie. I think Rhodes is better later on when we have the improved Ambrosia ready. I didn't take into account tho about how well-known they were tho.

Before I vote, can anyone remind me what's the consequences of too much potency reduction?

More chance of side effects, which is fine at Rhys's level.

You will have the option of decreasing a dose's potency by 1 without making the expressed power weaker. This can be done up to three times. However, each time you do it adds a +5 modifier to the chance of a negative side effect.

4-6: Chance of a minor side effect.
To determine if a dose has a side effect, a d100 will be rolled. 1 to 39 and there is no side effect. 40 to 69 and there is a minor side effect.

If a dose only has a chance to cause a lesser side effect but a roll for a higher side effect happens, then only the most serious side effect possible for the dose will take effect.

So the Potency Reductions don't really matter in this build, unless we really don't want Side Effects?

On an unrelated but future planning note, I was looking back at our time-sensitive missions that are going to expire next turn unless we do them. We knocked one out, Moon River is 9 turns away from expiring, but with our 5 AP and them all having 2 AP, we're going to have to choose one to ignore.

I do think that we should do the Four Seasons one-we have the best relation with them. But I'm split between meeting with Wolong and the Algnernon teen.

I dislike Daggermaw because it strongly implies a permanent physical change. Seems like a waste to do for someone with his level of Espionage, if we want him to be usable outside of a combat or agressive setting.

Many are uncomfortable with dysmorphic metahumans—lesser minds unable to appreciate the beauty of science.

I forget where, but it's also been stated (by me) that using a dysmorphic hero's DNA will not automatically result in major physical changes. That would be a major side effect, which Rhys doesn't have the tolerance to get to.

My explanation for Bulletproof is simple: As said, we need a guy who Punches Good.

Punching Good does require a degree of durability, certainly, to get in close and not get blown away. But Punching Good also needs you to, you know, punch GOOD. Aka, Strength.

Daggermaw and Adamant provide Strength, which we don't have in any other profiles. Fitness from Soldier X will also provide a minor boost in all attributes, Steadfast and Adamant provide the defense to get in close, Daggermaw might also add in some extra utility via a sensory ability.

If what we've seen of Rhys so far holds true, he's a decent soldier-spy, obviously, but emotionally, he's supporting Maddie like an older brother. Her powers aren't super combative, as seen by her low HIT. He can step up and be her bodyguard while Mona is blasting from the air.

In the TV Tropes Five Man Band, Mona's The Hero. John-Henry will probably be the team's Smart Guy on the field. Maddie is the Heart, she's going to be the emotional core. We need a Big Guy. Let's make Rhys one.

Hmm Talking about Powers my not seem to fit but is creative.

Huntress
Steadfast
Daggermaw

An Invulnerable Catlizard with Strenght and Speed, able to mark prey and hunt them with powerful claws.
You know what, I'll make that plan

[X] Invincible Chimera

Honestly my Biggest Problem with Sir Suffering. Is that while it has the Strenght and Regen to make for a good Puncher its powers dont really help in espionage.

Granted 6 espionage is pretty damn good already and enhanced senses might boost it too.

Oh dang! I left out a great bit from my outline on this update. Oh well. The upshot was it was to remind everyone that, as of adding Menagerie Witch, your global stats are now:

HIT 18, ESPIONAGE 17, REPUTATION 15, OPERATIONS 16.

An oddly balanced Justice Unlimited, given everything.

Yeah, saw the frontpage change. Once Rhys comes to the picture, it'll go HIT/ESP leaning. I also looked at Rhodes stats and he's the sort of balancer we'd need after Rhys with his high Rep/Oper. We really need to get Rhodes next once goldnine digging is ready

Boost him to 5
then give him the Wade Family Combo. For Invulnerable Adamant Constructs?

Id work for his Operation Main.

I feel like the QM is trying to tell us voters something, but I can't seem to figure it out. :p

That said, I'm late to the vote, but I do want someone who can punch good since that's what the girls are asking for, but I also want a power set that compliments Rhys' history as a spy and intel officer. To that extent, I've decided to make my own plan that's focused on punching good and also Espionage.

[X] Plan: Sucker Punch
-[X] DNA Profile 1: Outsider (Potency 4)
-[X] DNA Profile 2: Adamant (Potency 3)
-[X] DNA Profile 3: Daggermaw (Potency 1)
-[X] DNA Profile 4: Soldier X (Potency 1)
-[X] Potency Reduction: (-3 Potency)
-[X] Total Potency of Dose: 6

Sucker Punch
  • Potency 4 (Outsider) + Potency 3 (Adamant) + Potency 1 (Daggermaw) + Potency 1 (Soldier X) - Potency 3 = 6
    • 3x Transformation (Outsider, Adamant, Daggermaw,)
    • 2x Enhanced Strength (Adamant, Daggermaw)
    • 2x Regeneration (Adamant, Soldier X)
    • 1x Enhanced Senses (Daggermaw)
    • 1x Fitness (Soldier X)
    • 1x Energy Manipulation (Outsider)
    • 1x Invisibility (Outsider)
  • Side Effect Chance:
    • Major Side Effect: N/A
    • Moderate Side Effect: N/A
    • Minor Side Effect: 99-25
    • No Side Effect: 24-1
As can be seen here, Sucker Punch guarantees the appearance of Transformation, and mostly likely will be accompanied by Enhanced Strength and Regeneration. This fulfills our criteria for a brick wall that can get up in someone's face and knock their lights out while being able to absorb punishment.

Not only that, but, I think there's some really interesting power interactions here. Adamant's Regeneration and Transformation is a fountain of liquid metal that he forms into his body. The Outsider's Transformation meanwhile, is energy that they sculpt and manipulate as they need.

I believe this particular interaction means that Rhys can freely manipulate his body of flesh/energy/metal into whatever shape and form he wants. Need to cut something open? His hand is now a sword. Gotta pick a lock? Strands of his hair becomes a key. Someone trying to fly away? He suddenly has a lasso.

Need to sneak into a place undetected? He can get a new face. Hell, he probably doesn't even need to stay a man if the situation calls for it. He can change shape into an elderly woman to really throw someone off, or a ferocious animal if he needs to scare them away. Fool people into thinking he's dead? Just rearrange his body to look like it suffered fatal wounds, and when they look away, stand right back up and punch them in the back of the head!

Sucker Punch gives us someone who is not only a bruiser, but also an operative with quite a lot of utility to offer.

I agree with that which is why I had it as my Frontliner plan
Frontliner doesn't have Soldier X, which I think is worth taking since it adds 1 more to Regeneration to give it a great shot at manifesting. Having Rhys constantly generate his own supply of material to work with is key here.

That, and it adds 1 more Potency to the build to make sure the power and stat increase scales as high as possible.

So you want, if you don't mind me pulling from something further afield, an Exile from Double Cross, if you've heard of that TTRPG?
