It's not listed as upgradeable and it's not listed as doing anything with our drawback, so I don't think you are correct. Body Recalibration is better for us now, since it can be used sooner and is more reliable (in the fact that reduces more damage and also heals us). Inner Focus' 20 threshold is low enough that, depending on circumstances, we may get one-shot before we can actually trigger Inner Focus.
