So maybe not Monster Collecting, but Fossil Fighters has Dinosaur Collecting. And the story of the first two games is actually surprisingly kickass, and could lend itself to Quest form pretty decently..... The third game.....we don't talk about Frontiers. Basically killed the franchise.

Edit: if I actually felt confident enough in my ability to write up a "character creation" style omake for Fossil Fighters, I would.

I feel appaled, aghast, Smekkeldorf even! I have a perfect sense of control, thank you very much! Just ignire the fact that I may or may not have gotten ideas for 3 more omakes just as I wrote this....

Ok you may be right... DONT WORRY IM NOT WRITING! (yet... gotta use at least 50-60 Ep before then)

Also OMG I loved The First 2 Fossil Fighters! Man that takes me back, actually dont know how to make an omake with that one.

Character gen probably would be similar to the first game's intro. On some kind of transport headed to either Vivosaur Island or Caliosteo Islands, they'd choose a favorite Dinosaur from a list of 5, one of each element, that would end up their starter. There's some kind of island/park wide tournament that's going to be happening, character's experience with Fossil Fighting would impact stats, etc.

The real kicker is with what species the players are. Because you could just default to "human", but what if they had to choose between Human and Dinaurian? And them being Dinaurian has its own drawbacks and benefits, like the starter might be replaced by the player in their Dinosaur form, which could have an entire set of risks involved there, or they could start with a Dinotron in addition to said Dinoform.

Of course.....if you find them. Love that there's just a skelly-dino that is named "Salad", and the attack names are all salad dressing names.

Of course, then you have the Zombie Dinosaurs to consider, which would probably be locked out from the players unless they REALLY wanted to try and unseal that head-hopping madman.

...Man Fossil Fighters was a Trip. I wonder if we could make a new set of unholy dinos if there were ever a quest... Jelly Dinos? Frankestein Hybrids?

    You put up your hands, making sure to keep your chin protected. It'd be embarrassing if you went down this early, after all.

    Across from you, your mentor, Solferina, stands tall and proud. A pink earpiece on both sides of her head glow menacingly, shining brightly as can be.

    Her eyes glow red. "Maruki. Get ready. I will be using around 50% of my power for our daily spar today."

    Ah shit. This is gonna suck. "Can you… not? Please? I just got out of marksmanship and gunning class."

    "That's the least demanding class physically, and I know that you're decently good on the mental side. Prepare yourself!"

    Uh oh. She saw right through you.

    You duck, as she tries to hit you with a kick. You then catch the blade that comes down as she tries to stab you in the neck with a glowing hard light blade. It sears your hand, but you knock it out easily enough before shoving into her with your shoulder and landing a punch to her chest.

    "Hey, by the way, since you're doing 50%, do I have to land 2 and a half hits this time, or…"

    She shuffles back, before regaining balance and trying to hit you with a jab, which you just barely dodge. "No, it's rounded down to 2. As a piece of mercy."

    The rules of this "game" you play are simple. For every 20% of her power that she     doesn't use, you have to land one more hit on her.

    It's annoying, but possible. It's also gotten you to realize how bullshit the concept of power levels are.

    As for your lose condition… it's whenever you get too tired to keep fighting. You have a 1/100 win rate on average.

    Her eyes seem to close for a second. "And before you ask and waste your precious breath, you'll probably need it. At 50%, I can teach you this as your lesson for the day. Watch."

    You keep a defensive stance, as she seems to lean in a bit. Her right foot is in front, and it lifts up, just enough to be noticeable. Then, before you know it—

    BANG!

    You're on the floor, with Solferina slowly shaking you awake. "Hey. Maruki. You lost."

    You barely blink your eyes open. "Did you even hit me?"

    "No. I simply collided with you using a technique called Flash Step and let inertia take care of the rest."

    So she didn't even hit you, she just used one of her disposable hard-light arms to hit you in the chest like a truck and send you crashing into the wall. Thanks. Wonderful.

    "…can you at least teach me that formally?"

    "You had 0.5 seconds to learn. That is a perfectly reasonable amount of time to analyze a move."

    "Uh, yeah, for you Humagears."

    "Do you want me to activate 60%?"

    "Um, no! Please ignore what I just said…"

    The more I see about Solferina the more In interested in what kind of Fresh Hell the rest of the Guild Generals can do...

    Nice two Omakes Solar, though I'm starting to notice a trend that your 'AU' character creation things are less about Rei and more just tossing the cast into a Quest idea without making too many attempts to actually make it an AU. Nothing wrong with that of course but... well it just feels off a bit is all.

    Still, other then that critique I think your Omakes have a charm to them, and are very good ideas in of themselves.

    Honestly it's a concern that makes me not want to do to many more AU ideas, since I'd want to make sure any AU like Omake I make is actually a proper AU. Though this all is giving me more ideas how to translate Perhaps For Love, Or Maybe Justice more accurately in the Digimon AU I made.

    And seems as for the Vote, we get two new abilities this time around! Having that Physical Reroll early is gonna help with combat at least.
    And ooo, lovely memory. I would say it might be best to put that fished out memory into the sidestory tab... and maybe you could also throw in clips of the other memories Rei has too? Just a thought

    Hmm... fair. At least the people here know how to really make an AU, including you. Dont know of I could make them better.

    Hey, I'm not saying you can't make a genuine AU, not that your Omakes aren't genuine. I was just commenting on a strange feeling I got when reading your work, but I maybe could have kept it to myself...
