Welp its official we have come 2/3 of a circle. We now have a potential future spirit that is a variation of one of our initial 3 choices. This is going to be fun. Also most likely a dedicated light user.

Animate Akibahara
The hustle and bustle of Animate is always a sight to see, with fans of at least twenty different series walking in and out of each floor at any given hour. Each face that you see as you scan yet another print, another manga, another scantily-clad figurine, are all beginning to blend into oblivion. Despite Akasuki's best efforts, your exhaustion from yesterday is still hitting you hard, and your head is pounding. You know, it wouldn't be too hard to just lay your head down and take a nap…
Hey! Focus, you've only got to do this for so much longer.
>Only roughly 2 hours, 28 minutes and 58 seconds to go! You can do it, Miss Rei!
The assistance of the voices in your head snaps you back to attention, and you take a deep breath before scanning the next piece of merch, this time a fancy print. The new spirit in the card that the Archmages empowered hasn't woke up yet, so for now it's fairly calm up in your headspace. Arata looks up and clears more things from his register, leading more customers towards his line instead of yours. Mai walks over, readjusts her headphone-ears, and shoos away a customer attempting to bother one of the other workers, all without losing track of the manga in her other hand. Things are going well.
There's some sort of event going on. Apparently, there's a promotion for that one new anime you need to watch. Exclusive merch, autographed by the cast members. Something about some contest between a bunch of supernatural creatures from all over the world and their human partners for some wish. It's got crazy animation, great characters, and catchy music; or at least, that's what both Arata and Himari say. For you, it's just more work, but Mai did say that you'd be paid more, so it's worth working today.
Roughly two days ago… Work Groupchat (use for official purposes or Mai's going to diss your taste in anime)
Boss
>There's going to be people lining up out the door. I managed to negotiate with the company, so that I'll pay you all extra if everyone shows up and makes sure this event goes off without a hitch.
Arata (Dumbass) (Affectionate)
>Can I get one of the prints signed by Akane instead of a pay bonus? I already have enough money for a good while, and she's one of my favorite VAs.
Boss
> 😮💨 I'll figure something out.
After that, a bunch of other people started asking for their own things, but you just signed off and decided to work a full shift today. Now, you're just coasting by, drifting just above autopilot but just below fully paying attention. Another hand puts down some merch on your conveyor belt, and you look up to look at the customer.
d20=12. Night Market Yokai!
Wait a dang minute, there's nothing there.
That's when you realize that you should really be looking down instead of forwards. In front of the counter is a small girl, 12-ish. Maybe 14, you're bad at estimating age. (Especially considering how you thought Aoi, who's like late forties at most, was super old.) Shaking Atry's true but annoying commentary out of your head, you take a look at the piece of merch this kid's put on your conveyor belt. It's a figure (this time a much more decently clothed one) of the vampire secondary lead. She puts the box on your counter and crosses her arms.
You scan the barcode, and then look at the kid. She's got a mean look in her brown eyes, but that's the only thing you can tell as she hands over a small debit card, about the size of your palm. For a second you consider just letting her go, but something nags at you.
I appreciate child independence, but yeah. This feels weird.
You look up, honing your senses just a bit more than average, before spotting a tall man with unkempt hair, leading around a small group of children about the kid's size. He's looking around, hand pressed to his forehead as if he's trying to block out the sun. You wave him down. "Hey. Is this your kid?"
He and the other kids practically jump across the room trying to get to you, with some panicked cries of "where were you?!" coming from the kids. The man takes the small child's hand, and it's there that you notice that she has a prayer bead bracelet, painted a deep blue by what looks like spray paint. He looks up at you, and it's only right then that you notice the umbrella that he's carrying in a reverse grip (it's guaranteed to be sunny today) and the streaks of orange running down his spiky hair. He smiles, his gaze flickering to your name badge. "Thanks so much for finding one of my kids— Ao, don't you dare do that again! My friends asked me to take them on a little field trip for a day, and all of them wanted to go here to get their little gifts."
One of the kids raises their hand, a little ball of energy with a red prayer bead bracelet on. "Hey, the Underworld Congregation merch here is limited time! It'll be really good to trade later down the line. Super valuable and all that!"
The man just chuckles. The little stubborn girl from before tries to wiggle out of his grip, but his hand stays firm as iron. "Yeah yeah, just make sure not to lose it. Ao, we'll buy your figure, just wait for everybody else. I'm in your debt, Rei Maruki— you're just as kindhearted as Jun told me you were. I'm Kasaru, that young'un's new friend."
You blink incredulously. Right, Jun told you about that when you got back!
Wait, that strange story? Up here, we all assumed he was making things up to mess with you at the time. -Fuma
Roughly one day ago… "Rei, don't move, you still need this ice pack on your head."
"I told you all, I'm fine. What are you so nervous about on your end? I see those little cuts you have on your sweater, how'd you get them?"
"Fuck it, the day's already been crazy enough. Hand me a notebook."
You slowly nod, as some more of the children load their merch onto your counter. Not an encounter you expected, but it's certainly relieving that today you met someone nice instead of… a rock settles in your stomach when you think of the alternative.
[UMBRA?]
Yup. But no time to think about that. For now, just focus on scanning the merch and giving it to the kids… ok… done. As you finish up, you see Kasaru's hand outstretched to you. "Thanks for that. You saved me a lot of trouble, young'un." He says.
[Social Check: DC 50/75/100]
[33+19=52. Success!]
You take his hand and shake it strongly. While you'd love to keep talking, you can see the other customers beginning to filter down into your lane. "It's no problem. I've got some other people to serve though, so…"
He smiles and nods. "It's no problem. Talk later. Tell the young'u— I mean Jun, tell Jun that I said hi."
The kids and him walk away for a second. Your eyes shut, almost as if someone put your fingers on your eyelids and gently pulled down. When you finish your forced blink, Kasaru and the kids are gone. In your still-outstretched hand is a yellowed-orange paper. When you look at it, it shows a single address, and a message.
Come over if you want help with your Rider business! The Night Market is always open for people like you. : )
Huh. Interesting people.
"Kasaru" has been gained as a formal contact of Rei's! You may choose to talk to him next week and onwards.
3 Capital gained! You're getting a nice amount of money, Rei.
You look around for a second. Nobody else seems to have noticed, not even Mai. And she's noticed when a room's more dusty than normal. For a second you want to ask around, but… eh. You just shrug and focus back on your job.
>Make that money, Miss Rei! Only 2 hours, 26 minutes and 47 seconds to go!
Yay… Meanwhile, in Kyoto…

Kirata's Place
"Akemi, please stick out your finger. I need a blood sample. My Hiden Enterprises Humagear-Certified equipment will do the rest."
"Ah, so you're like the other mascots for the other magical girl teams I've met, not a yokai…"
"Yes, I suppose that's the case. Though I wouldn't be opposed to meeting a nekomata."
It's somewhat hard to relax with four Archmages and one Spark (is that the name? It's ok-ish at best) orbiting you. But oh well. Such is your lot in life. You look up at them. Akasuki, the middle-aged man, is busy leaning on Sora the Humagear's shoulder. They're both examining the blood sample that Sora just took from you. Kirata's flipping through multiple different holographic screens, comparing the claw mark on your hand to multiple other cases of Void corrosion. And while all this is happening, the woman called Yuki is readjusting her sunglasses and having a pleasant conversation with Purrson. Her snow-white hair's the same shade as yours.
There's four different Archmages working on this. Autopass.
As Kirata put it, this is a "favor to Rei that she probably would have considered doing anyways". You need Shade Cores or some sort of Void influence to live. Well, maybe you do, or maybe you don't. You'd rather not find out the hard way what happens when the emptiness in your chest hits a critical mass. As if on cue, Kirata turns to you just as you think that.
"Akemi. So bad news, if your Void Contract thingy ends, you'll melt. Like, literally you'll melt into a glob of weird Void goop. Please don't ever ask how I know that."
You blink twice, but somehow you can't find it in yourself to be surprised. "And do you know what happens… after I melt?"
Kirata just shrugs, and you feel like the sound that comes out of her mouth is some approximation of "I dunno." Well. That's comforting.
"But don't worry!" Akasuki cuts in, clearly seeing the weariness plastered all over your face. "We've figured out as much as we can with the info we have so far. To get any further, we'd have to find the thing that scratched you first, and I'm pretty sure it's got a "being dead" problem. However, the WRL's sister organization has some other with your unique circumstances, and in your specific case, there are two things we can do."
Sora taps an invisible button on the side of their head, and a few more holographic screens pop up, floating freely in the middle of the living room. "I believe that it would take a few weeks to find something that works for you specifically, but we could try and concoct a chemical solution in order to maximize the effectiveness of each Void Shard you might consume. However, it might come with some small side effects."
But that's when Yuki looks up from her conversation with Purrson, who sits on the other end of the kitchen counter from her. "Or, you could be fun. I could also help you with safely drawing out the Void inside the Shade Core. Like intensifies like, after all."
For his part, Purrson just tilts his head, likely the closest the cat can get to shrugging. "I have had some time to talk with Yuki. She means well, and she may even have a point when it comes to how the Shade Cores can be used."
All five people in the room look at you expectantly. It's a tough decision. "I want to…"
[ ] Increase Potency
-Akemi will gain the action [Consume Shade Core: Extra Potent] in two weeks.
-She will be able to increase her deadline by 4 weeks instead of 3. However, she will take 5-10 damage for the first combat of that week that she's involved in.
[ ] Absorb Power -Akemi will gain the action [Consume Shade Core: Sharpen Void] in two weeks.
-She will consume a Shade Core, but will not gain any Deadline from it. However, she will gain upgrades to two random moves in her moveset for the week. (This may come in the form of more special ailments or just bigger damage.) Oh, and one last thing.
"Hey, why do I feel stronger? And smarter, and some other things."
>Uh, probably because of the monumental asskicking you received yesterday
"Yeah, that checks out."
Rei leveled up!
Level 7 (Current EXP: 50/1250)
-Over Damage increases to 7.
-Gain +7 to one stat.
Please note that barring the use of Perks, important life experiences, or transformations, a baseline human will only be able to have a max modifier of 30 on any stat. Since you can get to 30 in certain stats with this vote, please note that hitting 30 in a stat will grant Rei a level of this Perk.
[Reshuffled] The QM was too lazy to write out the flavor text that nobody's gonna read anyways. Just assume that Rei's extra smart/social/cool now. [A stat has reached its max improvement for now. Once per Week, when a stat check of that type is failed, Rei may reroll that failed check. (Gain other levels of Reshuffled to gain something else…)]
Points that go over the limit of 30 will be converted to a small (50-100 max) amount of EXP, btw.
General Buff
Gain two extra +7 upgrades to two unique stats on top of the one buff you already have. So for example, you could get 2 Magical upgrades and one Mental upgrade, or a Physical, Mental, and Social upgrade. Please note that you cannot go with 3 total upgrades into one stat. [ ] (2nd Boost) Physical
[ ] (2nd Boost) Mental
[ ] (2nd Boost) Social
[ ] (2nd Boost) Technical
[ ] (2nd Boost) Magical
Alternatively, you may take 1 skill per level up from one of the below skill trees: Assassin Skills (Offensive)
Have Rei remember one of the attacking skills that she learned as an assassin, and have her train in it again. -[ ] Focus On The Target
-[ ] Weaken Target
-[ ] Sudden Kill
Focus On The Target
[Passive]
When you hit a Weakness, it deals x2 damage instead! However, you take +3 damage from all attacks.
Weaken Target
DC: 60
(Usable two times per Scene)
Signature Attack of the Guild. Deal 1d8 piercing damage to one character. For every 10+ this rolls over DC, lower Crit Threshold when attacking that character by 5 instead of applying Over Damage.
Sudden Kill
DC: 90
(Usable one time per Combat)
Signature Attack of the Guild. Deal 4d8 piercing damage to one character. If this Crits, deal x4 damage instead of the normal 2x.
Assassin Skills (Defensive)
Have Rei remember one of the not-dying skills that she learned as an assassin, and have her train in it again. -[ ] Insulting Taunt
-[ ] Extra Focus
Insulting Taunt
(DC 50, Social)
Halve the damage from the next attack that you'll take, and give Taunt 1-3 to you or one of your allies.
Extra Focus
Inner Focus kicks in when you have 25 or less Health now.
Power Of ???
Have Purrson (or the Archmages, if they have the time) teach you some weird shit. -[ ] Cat Attack!
-[ ] Awakening Commune
-[ ] Thieves' Communion
-[ ] Full Devouring Burst
Cat Attack!
DC: 50, Physical
(Usable two times per Scene, only available when Akemi/Purrson are in the fight)
Throw Purrson at an enemy's face to impart the fear of god and cats into them, dealing d6 Slashing damage. That enemy takes a -10 reduction to their next two rolls, and next turn, you get two actions!
On Crit, it becomes a canonical fact that the enemy you targeted had a cat allergy, and they skip one of their actions when they get hit by this. Yes, really.
Awakening Commune
While a spirit summoned by Spirit Commune is on the field, the Awakening they generate with their form's passives can also be shared with Rei. Also, decreases the DC of Spirit Commune by 5.
Thieves' Communion
When a spirit with the [Thieves Guild] passive is summoned, if you swapped into another [Thieves Guild] form, they get the same temporary benefits that you do. Also, decreases the DC of Spirit Commune by 5.
Full Devouring Burst
Void Burst now lasts for one more turn, but it costs 10 Health as an activation cost. (This damage cannot bring you below 1 Health.)

-[ ] Assassin Training/Power Of ??? Upgrade
Atry's Advice: Maybe strengthen your weakest area. It doesn't really pay to overspecialize. Blackbeard's Advice: Perhaps invest more into buffing up that Void Burst thing you tried against Kirata, lass? You haven't really bothered to summon any of us, so maybe that doesn't play well with what you want from your fighting. But then again, more bodies is always a real asset… Cheshire's Advice(?): >lol it really doesn't matter, especially since at the moment any encounter is usually easy enough as long as you have somebody with you. Pick what seems cool Author's Note:
You all can thank @Morrowlark for the level up Rei just got— their New/Old/Dead series of omakes is canon and awesome. You should also seriously consider reading their quest, Shimmer, Glimmer and Gleam. We control an amnesiac protagonist in a world where everything is fucked up, dreams are real, and there's a magical glass shard in its (the gender identity exploration is still pending) chest. The catch? Every other vote or so you have to vote for what you want to lose out of your already dwindling resources. Check it out, it's great.
And if you're in the mood for something a bit more urban fantasy, check out @ScorpioSting 's thread, Let's Make A Psychic Setting. It's pretty cool, Benjamin Franklin canonically had super durability.
Also, I finally brought back the spirit advice thing! It wasn't really applicable for the past few things, so I hope that Atry and Blackbeard help you out. Please ignore Cheshire, she's the manifestation of my gremlin thoughts.
Happy voting, heroes! (Also wow, is that cringe? Should I get a new sign-off? Ah, whatever.) Have fun.
Hahahaha I love the juxtaposition of the crazy stuff going on in Rei's life (yeah just getting beat up in front of all the Archmages, nbd) with the mundanity of her work (yep, it's retail!).
With a Yokai crossing over and making it all the more salient
Yeah this seems about right. Also thats how excess points will be treated? Good to know. Im game for stats this level and then going for a skill again next time (when we eventually manage to anyeay)
Also another quest for my backlog.
[X] Plan Big Brain Boosts
-[X] +7 to Mental
-[X] +7 to Social
-[X] +7 to Magical
[ ] Absorb Power -Akemi will gain the action [Consume Shade Core: Sharpen Void] in two weeks.
-She will consume a Shade Core, but will not gain any Deadline from it. However, she will gain upgrades to two random moves in her moveset for the week. (This may come in the form of more special ailments or just bigger damage.)
GIven Akemi's life draining capabilities, the penalty of Increase Potency isn't all that bad. In exchange, it gives us more leeway regarding her deadline once she can start using the Extra Potent version of consume Shade Core. Absorb Power runs the risk of having us burn through Shade Cores too quickly to maintain a reserve in case of emergencies, unlike Increase Potency, which allow us to slow down the consumption of Shade Cores and make it easier to stockpile them.
Yeah, it takes up an action just like how training or consuming for Deadline would, but there's also a good chance that it'll allow her to reach better levels of violence. Like, "pre-nerf one shot kill Archfiend" levels of violence.
EDIT, 4:00: The new character creation rewrite is here! You can start reading it from here.
That's right! After hearing some criticism from users on this very site and from my irl friends (mostly my irl friends, ngl), I've decided to rewrite the entire "opening slog" of PLoMJ. Project Prometheus readers, that's why I might be absent from writing Omakes for a bit. Kagurabachi thread bros, don't worry, I'll still be getting my updates for that done. The rewritten period will encompass all of character creation, and Origins 1.0 -> 1.5. Right now, all of World/Character Creation has been rewritten and will be out tonight, with 1.0 to 1.5 on the way. I'll be posting the old version underneath sidestories, for recordkeeping, but that's all that I'll leave of it.
World/Character Creation "Patch Notes":
Multiple pieces of old lore have been written out. (I changed up a lot of plans during my hiatus a few months ago.)
Purrson now talks a bit more like a normal person, and the descriptions during world creation sound a bit less like Jojo dialogue and more like plain English.
Purrson is less of a dick in general. He also has all his text in italics and updated to match his appearances later.
Drivers are no longer mentioned with one or two exceptions. Umbra, the Void, and the Assassin's Guild are now mentioned by name.
Winning Vote spoiler boxes have been added.
More Arata interaction, for leading into the 1.0-1.5 segment.
Yokai have been hinted at/mentioned in both Magical World descriptions.
QM Notes have been revised to be less immersion breaking.
Author's Notes now account for the story as a whole, and also my new gender identity.
Well this is going to be interesting. I dont remember anything about the first few chaptets so Ill have to compare once that happens. Hope you have a good time Kermie!
Note From Kermie:
This isn't actually a sidestory— these are just the updates that made up the initial character creation of this story from back in Summer 2024. It's kinda cringe, but I believe in media preservation, so…
Enjoy/despair. Probably that second one.
Character Creation 0.1: THE WORLD
THE WORLD IS IN DANGER, AND SOMEBODY MUST PROTECT IT.
…
Huh? You've heard similar words over and over again by this point?
…
Hmph, fine. I'll start again.
…
THE WORLD IS IN DANGER, ACCOSTED BY EVIL, AND THERE MUST SOMEBODY TO PROTECT IT.
AND THEY DO SAY THAT WHEREVER THERE IS EVIL, THERE ARE MAGICAL GIRLS.
BRAVE WOMEN, FIGHTING FOR LOVE, CONTRACTED BY MAGICAL FORCES TO PROTECT THE WORLD FROM DEVASTATION.
YET THEY ALSO SAY THAT WHEREVER THERE IS EVIL, THERE WILL BE KAMEN RIDERS.
BRAVE WARRIORS, FIGHTING FOR JUSTICE. CUT FROM THE SAME CLOTH AS EVIL, YET CHOOSING TO CUT THROUGH IT.
…
They fight for similar reasons, don't they? But they always fight separately, in different ways, in different worlds.
…
Well, until now, I suppose.
…
IT WILL BE YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO FIGHT ON TO PROTECT THIS WORLD, AS EITHER ONE OF THEM. AND YOU WILL BE ACCOMPANIED BY YOUR COUNTERPART, NO MATTER WHO YOU CHOOSE. WHETHER YOU LIVE IN HARMONY OR DIE IN RIVALRY IS UP TO YOU.
…
And I am so sorry you cannot escape the slaughter that was ordained for you the second you chose to be a hero.
…
But this world's still a bit incomplete, isn't it? Fractured up, due to its Ņ̸̫͉̫͇̥͖̤͓͎̳͉̀̓͜ą̸̃͂͗́͝͝͝t̷̡̨̜̮͖̖̮̥͓͓̜̘̜͔́̆͒͜ũ̸̺̤̳̪̩̪̝͚̱͚͉̫͇̽͛̐͐̅̀͒̐̍͊̅̈̅͐̊͜͜͝r̷̘̤͛̓̈́͐̊̇͒͊͂̿͒̄̋̚͜͠ḙ̸̡̨̛̛̜̭̱̲͉̩͓̜̭͑̆̒̏̿̓͐́̒̋̈́̄̿͐͜.
Very well then. I'm normally not allowed to do this, but…
I'll try to give you a heads up about what you're getting into.
QM note:
Your chargen (character generation) will be divided up into four parts. The one you're on, where the details of this world will be fleshed out. Then you'll pick your character, and their Archetype (what they can transform into). Afterwards, you'll customize your perks and then your Counterpart's build.
Character generation will not preserve points between each part— unless cautioned otherwise.
Good luck, and feel free to ask questions. You'll need it.
The Good Parts. (Perks)
This world has so many wonderful things that you'll get to see, child. I hope that you'll enjoy all of it.
Now, ask me some questions, and I shall answer.
(Pick the world's Perks, which will benefit everybody, Rider or MG. For each perk picked, gain a certain amount of points. These will be used in the next section, for the more good is brought into the world, the more bad must follow.)
(You may only amass a total of 7 points. You must have a minimum of 3 points.)
(Oh, and pick only one from each section.) What are the advancements of this world?
Every single world has its own unique features, and I've had the pleasure of getting to know this one very well. You see, what's special about this world is what society flows around. The world is special because…
[ ] (0) …It's perfectly, utterly normal.
Um, wait, can I check my notes again?
…
Oh damn, they weren't kidding.
Well, it seems that you'll just have to deal with a normal civilian life. Sorry.
[The world is, on the surface, equivalent to the real life world. No special bonuses.]
[ ] (1) …It's advancing into the future, step by step.
Yes. Thanks to the help of President Aruto, of Hiden Enterprises 20 years ago, the world started to integrate AI into its daily operations. Now, Humagears are recognized as sentient citizens, and efficient workers in almost every facet of life. Well, except for the creative arts. That's still left up to humans.
With the AI revolution done and finished, humanity looks to a brighter, cleaner future. Enjoy it.
Because you were born in one of the best times to be a human.
[Humagears, special androids and AI, will appear. Easier upgrades to equipment. All Kamen Riders receive increased starting stats.]
[ ] (2) …It's reached an incredible state, considered the apex of the future.
It's incredible out there, you know. The apartments alone would make somebody from twenty years ago wonder if they were transported to a world of science fiction. But it's not fiction. It's real.
In the streets, people walk around with bodies that can cater to every whim. Teleportation is about as expensive as a taxi from back when we still used those.
And in the communities and megacities that work together to build newer futures, a new project is being discussed. Humongous mechanical bodies.
Iron giants that can reach out over the world, to protect this wonderful creation called "humanity."
[Gain all upgrades from first Tech upgrade.Setting is like cyberpunk but nicer. Think Magical Index. Majorly increased starting stats for Kamen Riders. Become able to access Cybernetic Augments. (Artificial Being) becomes a possible origin in the next section.]
[Gain possible access to the (Mecha: Metallic Giants) upgrade later.]
[ ] (1) …Magic is slowly becoming part of daily life.
We don't know how it happened. We don't know what it is, though we're definitely working on it. But twenty years ago, runes and glyphs became public knowledge, and now the common citizen knows how to perform what can only be called magic.
Either way, even if this is a world only populated by humanity, it's still becoming a truly fantastical world. Who knows? Magic may become the next revolution.
[Basic classes in Magic will appear in school. Easier upgrades to stats. All Magical Girls receive increased starting stats.]
[ ] (2) …Magic is absolutely integrated into the world.
And don't you know what happened in the years after that? We've still got the same skyscrapers, the same tech we had before. But now, in the skies, in the earth, there's creatures that fly through the sky, walk on the earth, that cannot be said to be anything but magical.
Society's undergone incredible changes, almost as if it's something out of a fantasy novel.
Here be dragons, here be mages. Yet at the same time, humanity is still here. Strange, isn't it?
[Setting becomes pure Urban Fantasy. Think Touhou or FMA. Majorly increased starting stats for Magical Girls. Become able to access Instant Magic. (Magical Being) becomes a possible origin in the next section.]
[Gain possible access to the (Spirit Animals: Creatures Of Soul) upgrade later.]
[ ] (2) …Magic and technology are starting to advance, in unison.
Somehow, I don't know how, but Humagears and Magic are now existing in harmony. They both reached their current forms at the same time.
Now, somebody's trying to put the powers of Magic and Technology together. Simply incredible.
The future is both magical and technical. Only humanity can choose which way we shall advance.
[Gain the benefits of "Magic is slowly becoming part of daily life" and "it's advancing into the future, step by step."]
[Later on, gain access to the powers of Alchemy and Magitech. ] Pardon, but what are these "Riders" and "Magical Girls"?
Well, you probably already figured out that they're heroes that fight for good, blahblahblah.
What I know you're really talking about is how the public sees them. The world at large sees them as…
[ ] (0) Mysterious Heroes
Kamen Riders. Magical Girls. The world knows that they exist. The world knows that they protect against the monsters people can't fight on their own.
Um, and not much more than that.
You see, Kamen Riders and Magical Girls have always appeared, fought, then disappeared. No overarching themes or organizations. Just nonstop fighting, then gone. Maybe you'll break that trend.
[No special bonuses.]
[ ] (1) Secret Societies
Now, Magical Girls? Kamen Riders? You'd be a fool to think that they don't exist.
Nobody knows where they come from. The government couldn't track them if they tried. But everyone knows that they exist, and that they work together. Maybe you'll find out how they're connected.
[There are organizations for Magical Girls and Kamen Riders respectively. However, you'll have to get to them yourself.]
[ ] (2) An Unveiled Masquerade
Magical Girls and Kamen Riders aren't connected to the government, but they've always been supported by the government.
If you want to hide your identity, fine. But the people up top and your fellow heroes always are looking out for you, and make sure you've got backup during tough fights. That is to say, explosive back up.
[The military will show up after some time to help out with monster fights. Aside from that, you'll have full choice on whether you want to reveal your identity, and free government benefits. (Money!)] And what do these two factions think of each other?
Ah, you probably also want to know how the two sides cooperate. Well…
[ ] (0) They don't know the other exists./They work alone.
"Magical Girls stay on their side." "Kamen Riders keep to their own business." That's just what they say.
There's no inter-organization communication between magical girls and Kamen Riders. They're not exactly enemies, but they're not too friendly either.
[Kamen Riders and Magical Girls work separately. No special bonuses.]
[ ] (1) Friendly (?) Rivals
Oh those two? Well, they don't work together fully or agree on everything, but they still know when to cooperate.
I describe their relationship as that they're working for the same thing, but they're rivals in the way that they try to achieve those things.
[Riders and Magical Girls work together sometimes, but disagree on some of their philosophies behind fighting evil. Most of the time, relationships are cordial, but there are some people that have… not the best opinion of the other side.]
[ ] (2) Partners In Good
Love. Justice. Both of them are two sides of the same coin. Both the Riders and the magical girls have agreed on this. As such, they fight for Justice and Love together, whether that be on the battlefield, or in the books.
[Riders and magical girls work together; your PC will know that your counterpart is a Magical Girl or Kamen Rider in character before the story starts.] This seems very challenging, and a bit overwhelming. Is there anybody that can help me?
[ ] (0) You'll have your own friends to rely on. Normal friends.
You'll have to find your own people to help you in this world. Nobody more, nobody less. I wish you the best of luck.
[Only original characters will appear in this quest, no other special effects.]
[ ] (1) You'll have some assistance from learned heroes.
You've probably figured it out by now, but you've definitely not been the first one to participate in this whole hero business. Try and see what other heroes, your seniors, can teach you.
[If any option is picked where, for some reason, large groups of heroes are able to work together, you may sometimes have characters from magical girl anime and Kamen Rider cameo to help you out.]
[ ] (2) There are heroes from the past that you can learn from. You'll just have to find them first.
Hiden Aruto. Tokigawa Sougo. Ace.
Usagi Tsukino. Madoka Kaname. Sakura Kinomoto.
You might know those names. You might not. But just like you they were heroes in their own right.
They may or may not remember their exact experiences, but they will still serve as valuable mentors for the tribulations to come.
[Multiple characters from throughout Tokusatsu and magical girl history will appear in this world. While they will not be able to always help you fight, due to certain reasons, they will still serve as valuable mentors and role models that are constantly available.] The Bad Parts. (Disasters.)
It seems like a wonderful place to live, right? Hopefully you like this world, because it's the only place you've got.
Now, I hope you didn't think that everything was going to be fun and games. Because for every hero, there must be a villain. A Disaster.
Now, as you can imagine, there's a mastermind behind all of these things. Unfortunately, you cannot change that. But you can decide what you will be fighting.
(Tally up your points now. If they're more than seven, go back and choose again.)
IF YOU AMASSED 3 POINTS, TAKE ONE DISASTER.
IF YOU AMASSED 5 POINTS, TAKE TWO DISASTERS.
IF YOU AMASSED 7 POINTS, TAKE THREE DISASTERS.
[ ] Giants of Hell
They disappeared 25 years ago. They were Giants. Creatures that could have eaten the sky whole. They came in many names. Godzilla. Gojira. Rodlan. Mothra.
These creatures were called Kaiju. Until recently, it was believed that they were extinct. But one does not simply kill a giant. They can only wait for it to awaken again.
[Bosses of each season and each arc will come with their very own personalized kaiju. These horrifying beasts will take specific preparations and terrifying sacrifices to defeat. There are very few things that can fight off kaiju easily, but perhaps going with a Mecha could even the tide…]
[ ] Hearts Unjustly Tainted
The human mind, the human soul… aren't they just two interesting things? No? Just me? Well, you'd better start figuring out those two concepts well.
Because monsters aren't just something sent down to earth by somebody else anymore. If someone feels too bad. If someone goes through the worst things… perhaps, their monsters could become literal as well.
[Distortions, monsters born from mental breakdowns can start appearing. Unlike normal monsters, you won't be able to face them with pure force. You'll have to know the person and reach their heart to get through those challenges.]
[Also, Distortions won't just be random people off the street. They could be your friends, your family members. Who knows?]
[ ] Dark Mirrors
I know that with everything I've told you, you must think you're so special. But there are other Kamen Riders and Magical Girls out there. And some of them don't feel like using their powers for good.
[Evil Kamen Riders and evil Magical Girls will start being deployed by the antagonists. They will match you in every single way, and perhaps surpass you in some areas.]
[Defeating even one of those dark mirrors will take not only skill, but an understanding of yourself.]
[ ] Beings From Beyond The Stars
The Fermi Paradox. Why haven't we met aliens yet? Well, you're going to find out the answer, and I don't think you're going to like what's on the other end of that age-old question.
[Yeah. There's aliens now. They may range from a civilization of soldiers that simply hate you to beings you will never be able to comprehend.]
[ ] Puppet Masters From The Shadows
SHOCKER. "Sustainable Happiness Organization with Computational Knowledge Embedded Remodeling."
To put it bluntly, they're a hedonism cult, and also a conspiracy. People thought that the legendary first Kamen Rider, Takeshi Hongo and later the just as famed Sailor Moon, also known as Usagi Tsukino, both took SHOCKER down before disappearing. But SHOCKER was never truly defeated.
It might not be obvious, but they're everywhere. In your businesses, in your corporations, even inside the government. SHOCKER has been sleeping for years.
And now, the sleeping giant shall wake.
[Certain segments of the government will try to antagonize you and brand you a criminal. Aside from that, certain businesses will keep surveillance on you and try to jack up the prices of all the cool stuff.]
Hm. So that's how you see the world. It's not perfect, but I really do think it's a wonderful place.
That is, if you're willing to fight for it.
…
Win against those guys for me, won't you? Not just the Disasters, I mean the people behind them.
…
Hah, I doubt you can even hear me that well. Don't worry, I'm not insulted.
Besides, the next time we meet, you'll just remember this as a dream. And I won't remember you.
Goodbye, Noble.
…
YOU SLEEP TODAY A REGULAR MORTAL.
TOMORROW, YOU SHALL WAKE A HERO ORDAINED BY FATE. A NOBLE.
…
I'm sorry. I believe in you.
Please win. For love. For justice.
For those wonderful beings called humanity.
…
You wake up in your house in Tokyo.
And for a reason you can't remember, you wake up in a cold sweat.
Just what were you dreaming about?
Author's Note:
So how was that for an introduction? Excited for the adventure ahead?
If you know me from my other Quest, welcome back! I hope I won't disappoint you.
And if you don't know me, the name's MrKermie. Remember it, because I'm your QM from now on.
This quest was born from my love for both Toku and Magical Girls, so I hope that you all love it as much as I do. I've got some crazy plans for later.
Oh, and one last thing:
Here's a plan template.
[ ] Cool plan name!
-[ ] Advancements (Magic or science?)
-[ ] Hero Identities
-[ ] Inter-Hero Relationships
-[ ] Help (Crossover Characters?)
-[ ] Disasters (Add 1-2 more, depending on point tally up.)
Alright, happy voting!
Character Creation 0.2: THE FOOL
It takes you a good while to calm down. You've got to breathe.
In, out.
Ok, you're calm now. So get up out of bed.
That dream shook you up, but you can't remember what it was about. Weird.
Days like this, you really have to wonder why people call you…
Personality:
[ ] …Curious and Inquisitive.
[ ] …Brave and Bold.
[ ] …Shy and Reclusive.
[ ] …Kind and Caring.
[ ] …Something else. (Write-in, two adjectives max)
It takes a monumental effort, but you manage to throw off the sheets and get out of your bed.
Now you've got to go through your whole morning routine. You go to the restroom to brush your teeth, and in the mirror you see:
Age:
[ ] Your young face. (High Schooler) You're roughly a junior, and you've been going through school at an easygoing pace.
[ ] Your good-looking face. (Young Adult) You're about college age, and you'll be able to decide whether you're going or already graduated next update.
[ ] Your tired face. (Middle-Aged) You're 40 something. Hey, at least you've got a steady job.
As you brush your teeth and spit out the toothpaste down the drain, you wipe up the sink and get into the shower for a quick wash. In case you're wondering what's down there, you're a:
Gender:
[ ] Male
[ ] Trans Male QM Note: If you identify as a man, you can still become a Magical Girl. [ ] Nonbinary
[ ] Female
[ ] Trans Female
And you look like:
Appearance:
[ ] (write in) Send a small description and a link to a picture.
You throw on your clothes, and make sure you've got your stuff together. Time to go out to school/work.
Right before you walk out the door, you make sure to grab your wallet, and ID. Gotta make sure that you can get on the train, after all.
On the ID, it says your name. Your name is…
Name:
[ ] Ren Akiyama
[ ] Akira Tori
[ ] Shintaro Ishimori
[ ] Hana Aoi
[ ] Mai Kurosawa
[ ] Naoto Takeyama
[ ] No, you're… (Write-in.)
You're outside of the house now. Just in time, you manage to get your ass out of the apartment, and down the stairs to the subway.
Tokyo Subway, Going To Shibuya City
You scan your pass just in time, before taking a seat in the crowded subway car. You're ready to doze off, until you hear somebody call out your name.
Oh hey, it's your friend, Arata!
Your work friend. He's a dumbass, but he's your dumbass.
He brushes a hand through his messy mop of black hair and waves to you. "Hey there, dude! I wasn't expecting you to make it on this train. Thought you'd be taking the 8:30 one like I usually do. What are you, some sort of super-speedster?"
You quietly laugh. "No, Arata, I'm just a regular person. I've just got the prudence to get my butt out of the house early, unlike you."
"Well, that's cool! Anyways, wanna hear about…"
You tune Arata out, as he starts going on about the new Gundam model he got. Eventually, you start thinking about where you come from. That's because you're just a:
Origin: For this section and until the end of the update, you will have 4 character generation points. Spend them all.
[ ] (0) Regular Human You're just an average Japanese person. Nobody more, no one less.
(No special effects.)
[ ] (2) Enhanced Human A few years back you managed to get out of "that life" and turn away from your past. The forces that be seem to want you to come back.
(Some mild starting stat upgrades and mild experience as a combatant from your past, which will be decided in the next update. This also comes prepackaged with trauma because of course it does.)
[ ] (2) Artificial/Magical Being You're not actually human at all! You're— (Great enhancements to all starting stats. Start with a few free traits. However, you have less opportunities to make friends and talk down the bad guys due to your lack of humanity.]
Locked due to world options.
A conductor Humagear walks through the car, advising everyone to take their seats. As the air glyphs start blasting from the other side of the train, acting as a turbine and engine, the train starts to speed up.
You whip out your phone to scroll through social media. While you look through your feed, some posts come up. They're related to what you like. That's to say they're related to:
Interests/Hobbies:
Pick as many as you like.
[ ] (2) Magic (It's the newest innovation. The new revolution that'll bring humanity into a new era! How could you not be interested in Magic?)
(Increased starting Magical stat. Gain starting item: Beginner's Rune Kit.)
[ ] (2) Engineering (You've been helped out by them ever since you were little. They can do something impossible for humans within a second. How could you not be interested in Humagears?)
(Increased starting Technical stat. Gain starting item: Beginner's Repair Kit.)
[ ] (2) Magical Girls and Kamen Riders.
(Yes, yes, I know the irony. But you couldn't help but gravitate towards these effervescent figures, who always fought for the good of all.)
(Better chances of meeting "interesting people" when exploring. You'll be able to get some info on any super's powers just based on their looks.)
[ ] (1) Martial Arts.
(Your mom signed you up when you were young. Then you just kept on going.)
(Increased Martial stat.)
[ ] (1) Trivia. (Japan's schooling system isn't the best in the world without reason.)
(Increased Mental stat.)
[ ] (1) Socializing and Celebrities. (You were a social butterfly in middle school. Then freshman year. And then…)
(Increased Social stat.)
And as you look at all those frivolous things on your phone, you still don't know what's in store for you.
Because little did you know, today was going to be the most important day of your life.
Today would be the day you became a hero fighting against the forces of evil, a:
Archetype: QM Note: THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF THIS UPDATE. It determines how and why you will be a hero. Choose wisely.
[ ] Kamen Rider
Your powers originate from the mysterious organization sending down monsters to the world. Essentially, whether you were experimented on by them or simply found some of their trinkets, you'll be fighting evil, with a power sourced from evil. Your Counterpart is a Magical Girl.
Fight for Justice, Rider. And remember, when you're in trouble, the correct option is to yell "Henshin!"
Some famous Riders are:
-LITERALLY EVERY MAIN CHARACTER KAMEN RIDER.
Perk:
[Those Who Change]
The origin of your powers keeps on shifting and moving. You can't pinpoint it, or how it'll develop. But you know that these powers aren't content with staying human, normal forever,
Maybe that's a good thing.
[Gain access to Form Changes (Ten in total, maybe more) over the course of this harrowing adventure. Form Changes will give you different Perks while transformed and temporary Stat Upgrades.]
Trait:
[Seeker Of Justice]
Once you've gone down this path, you'll be able to see the tracks that others have left.
[You will be able to ascertain someone's Alignment (eg. Neutral Good, Chaotic Neutral, Lawful Evil, etc) after fighting with them or socializing with them for enough time.]
Flaw:
[They're After You]
The people who you got your powers from wanted an expendable soldier. They instead got a pain in the butt: you. Now, they want their investment back. Dead or alive.
[The antagonists of this story know you PERSONALLY. And while for a while they'll just send their mooks, eventually you'll find yourself going against their head honchos.]
[ ] Magical Girl
Your powers originate from a mysterious creature that blessed you with the power to fight off the monsters that terrorize the people. Your Counterpart is a Kamen Rider.
Fight for Love, Magical Girl. And remember that even in the worst of times, there's still hope left for even villains.
Some famous Magical Girls are:
-Usagi Tsukino (Sailor Moon)
-Sakura Kinomoto (Cardcaptor Sakura)
-Any of the PreCures
Perk:
[And I Hoped For Love]
Your powers are powered by emotions. Your love, anger, sorrow, joy… all of them coalesce into your magic.
[Half your social stat can be added to your physical/martial stat when fighting. This can double your chances of both winning and making friends.]
Trait:
[Seeker Of Love]
You care for people. Always have, always will. Ever since gaining your powers, you've been able to sense and empathize with their emotions on an even deeper level.
[You will be able to ascertain someone's Sanity (on a scale of 1-100) after fighting with them or socializing with them for enough time.]
Flaw:
[Emotions On A Wire]
This magic, this power… it's still so connected, intimately, to your emotions. Try and harness it, but remember: the magic is only as sane as its user.
[Due to being fueled by your emotions, your combat powers and your Perk might fall out of use if you go through enough emotional or mental stress in your civilian life.]
[Basically, don't be a NEET!]
[ ] (1) Kaijin Rider/Psuedo-Rider
Your powers originate from a dark, dark place. It's twisted you down, and your heart can't take it anymore. You'll still try and fight for justice… but you'll be doing it your own way. Your Counterpart is a Dark Magical Girl.
Perk:
[Break Down]
Your powers are unstable. Unreliable.
But that just means they're much more powerful than some run of the mill hero.
[EXP gain x1.5. Form Change stat boost extended to a bit after the transformation.]
Trait:
[Monstrous Composition]
The experiments and events that were realized on you turned you into a monster, physically while transformed and mentally outside. Thankfully, you used to be a half decent person, so you just come off as very grumpy.
[No Secret Society will take you in, (yet…) but none of the baddies will try to jump you unless provoked. Gain advantage on all intimidation checks.]
Flaw:
[Those Who Cannot Change]
THEPOWERTHEPOWERITHURTSITHURTS—
[Write ins will be harder to find opportunities for, and write in combat plans will be interpreted through the lens of someone blood-drunk on combat.]
[ ] (1) Dark Magical Girl
Your powers originate from a contract with a being outside the scope of this world. A very, very unfair being, who's toying with you for sport. Your Counterpart is a Dark Kamen Rider.
You've got problems. Mental problems, social problems, and now that other Magical Girls hate you, you've got Magical problems. Good luck.
Ante up your life. That's what you've been taught to do. While this life has been ruthless, you've still got to try.
[Advantage (two dice rolled) on ALL combat rolls. 1.5x EXP]
Trait:
[Stranger]
You've always been an outsider. Ostracized. Maybe that's why you took that contract.
But even Outsiders are a group of their own.
[Gain Relationship Level 1/5 and a look into the Sanity of anybody with the (Outsider) trait.]
Flaw:
[And I Prayed For Hate]
You need to fight monsters and eat their souls to survive. That's it you said it. The bastard that you sold your soul to so that you could live says so. And you know damn well that you're not the only person that needs to do this.
[Other Dark Magical Girls now know your location, name, and family. Also, if you don't fight monsters regularly, you'll die. Good luck!]
But that's all for the future. For now, just focus on going where you need to go.
So take a nap. And dream of being a hero… Author's Note:
Pt 2 of the character generation. Next, you'll pick the perks and origin for your Archetype. That's where the fun stuff like elemental powers and super-speed (WE HAVE CLOCK UP AT HOME!) come in.
Not much to say here. Say hi to Arata! He might be a Kamen Rider, he might just be a dude working as Mission Control. Who knows?

Character Creation 0.3: THE STAR (REVERSED)
Carry the one… make sure she goes here, he goes there…
Oh! It seems you're back.
Hmph. Hit your head on that metal tube you were riding on? You shouldn't be sleeping so much, Rei.
How do I know your name? Just don't ask.
And as for what I'm doing? Oh, that's convenient. It's related to you.
You can watch. We both know you're going to forget the second you go outside, anyways.
Your Past:
Hey, you're an Enhanced Human, right? What made you the monster you are today?
[ ] Former Umbra Soldier
You joined because of the promises of a world where everybody could be free. You left after seeing what had to be left in chains.
[Increase all stats by 10 EXCEPT for Mental. You gain inside knowledge on Umbra, the organization pulling the strings of the world.]
[Umbra gets inside knowledge on you.]
[ ] Ex-Assassin
It's only been about 5 years since you escaped that life your parents sold you into. When you look in the mirror, you're unsure where the time that was supposed to be your childhood went.
[Increase all stats by 10 EXCEPT for Physical. Gain easy access to (Guns) and start with a silenced pistol, though you'll have to upgrade fast.]
[A certain faction will now ALSO be interested in you.]
[ ] Genetic Experiments
You're a monster. When you look in the mirror, check your mouth, or feel magnets stick to your skin, you can tell.
Is a killing cyborg like you even worthy of being called a "human" anymore?
[Increase all stats by 10 EXCEPT for Social.]
[Makes your Flaw [Those Who Cannot Change] worse.]
[ ] (Write in?) Must be suitably tragic for a Kamen/Kaijin Rider. Origin: Where did your powers come from? We all know Umbra had something to do with them, but Drivers don't grow on trees. How did you become a Rider?
(QM Note: This part of the vote's mostly narrative.)
[ ] Genetically Engineered Solutions (Weapons) The trinkets of power that you picked up were supposed to be for an Umbran Soldier. Of course, they dropped dead the second they tried to run away from the organization, so now they're yours.
[ ] Cyborg Auguments You should not have taken that offer to participate in "medical trials". But hey, at least you managed to escape the hypnosis stage. Now you're on the run, with a Driver in your backpack and a body better than anything you could have imagined.
(If Genetic Experiments was chosen, this MUST be picked)
[ ] Chosen By The Glyphs Because of Umbra's experiments, certain Glyphs occasionally go out of control and create monsters. You pushed your friend out of the way of one of these Glyph beams, but you managed to resist the power and channel it into yourself. Now, you're a Kamen Rider.
[ ] (Write-in?) Something else? Subject to QM veto. Theme: And of course, we can't forget what your powers look like. The riders of ages past have always had a "theme" that guided the aesthetic of their powers.
Most iconically, insects. A grasshopper, to be exact.
I wonder what shape your hatred will take?
(QM Note: Every theme will grant you a free trait, no points needed.)
Your powers manifest as Miniature Glyphs, magical glyph discs which you extract from people who were "corrupted by Glyph energy" (read: Umbra). You can use the four elements, and might get access to more as time goes on.
Gain Trait: [Glyph Absorption]
When you go into areas with Glyphs via [Explore] actions, you can absorb those Glyphs to reduce Umbra and their minions's power there. Also, you may absorb someone's Mana by touching them, which reduces any DCs against them and temporarily increases Magical.
Your powers manifest as Emotion Glyphs, a currently undiscovered type of Glyph. Those Glyphs seem to be contained best when they're grafted onto a lock.
Gain Trait: [Friendship Powered Magic]
Spending time around and fighting with friends will extend Form Change buffs, and increase Martial and Physical. Making Runes of your own will also be much easier.
[ ] Steampunk Tech
GEAR SET!
L'aereo del sognatore.
~CLANKCLANKCLANK~
Your powers manifest as Dream Gears, which are gears that contain holographic blueprints for some of humanity's greatest inventions. (Think engines, lights, and boats.)
Gain Trait: [Tech Absorb]
When working against Tech using opponents, you may absorb their tech when close enough, which allows you to temporarily use a new special move and gain a temp Technical bonus.
If you gain the special item Empty Gear, this may even lead to you gaining a new form.
Your powers manifest as various DNArise Keys, which contain copies of one of 8 blueprints made by a mysterious inventor. The Blueprints were supposed to show one of 8 body parts, and how they could be enhanced with cyber implant tech.
These Keys, when inlaid into your Driver (transformation belt) will temporarily transform you into a cyborg and boost a certain part of your body.
Gain Trait: [Android Auguments]
x1.2 EXP gain. (CANCELED OUT BY OTHER PERK) When Form Change ends, you'll still be able to carry some of your stats into your human form for a while.
[ ] Magitech Combination
GEAR, GO!
GLYPH, SET!
TRUE MATCH!
Your powers manifest as a combination of the above mentioned Miniature Glyphs, and Dream Gears. You can combine these two powers in order to achieve your forms via your Fusion Driver.
Gain Trait: [Magitech Absorb]
If you've purchased or found any Magitech from your enemies, you may absorb it to create new weapons mid combat.
A Magitech vacuum becomes a tornado, a Magitech lighter becomes a flamethrower, and so on. These weapons have limited durability, but stay around after combat.
[ ] Write in Theme?
Of course, the four courses of action written up there are just some of the ways you could develop.
Realistically, almost anything or anyone can be a Kamen Rider or Kaijin Rider, as long as they adhere to a few certain rules.
A not even remotely comprehensive list includes:
Mythical Figures (Hercules, Gilgamesh)
Space (Voids)
Dinosaurs
Dragons
Insects
Monsters (Medusa, Dracula, etc.)
Birds
Duel Monsters
Alchemy
Video Games (yes, this has actually happened.)
…And almost anything else you can think of! Except for Magical Girls.
Please @ me when making a Theme write in, so I can make up a Trait to go with it. For this section, you will have Character Generation Points: 2
You can gain more points to take more Perks (good) by taking Flaws (bad). You may only take three Perks and Flaws each.
Perks: Every Rider has their strengths. Here, why don't you look at yours?
[ ] (1) Specialty In… (Social/Physical/Technical/Magical/Mental)
Now, we've already established how smart and strong you are. But you also have even more talents, such as…
(Cannot be combined with the flaw that debuffs the same stat.)
[+10 to chosen stat. More EXP gain when training that stat.]
[ ] (2) Sentient Powers
The gears, the keys, the Glyphs… whatever they are, your transformation trinkets? They're alive, and they want to help you in any way they can.
[Your powers are sentient, and will attempt to give advice at the end of each update on how they see the situation. At higher levels, they may even be able to fight as Kamen Riders of their own…]
[ ] (2) Insider To The Societies
I won't tell you who. But one of your friends, even if you don't know yet, is already a highly respected Kamen Rider and respected by the Rider Secret Society.
And the second that they realize you're a Rider, they'll offer you an invite of honor.
[Almost instant access to the Rider Secret Society (not the real name) once the prologue arc is over, no questline needed. This comes with a lot of benefits, such as money, and a free assist if any other Rider is in the area.]
[ ] (1) Extraordinary Synchronicity
Magical Girls, Kamen Riders… they're all equal heroes, in your eyes. And you'll get to know somebody that thinks the same.
[Guaranteed (Positive) relationship with your Counterpart. Aside from that, you'll be able to create special Combination Moves with any other Rider or Magical Girl you're fighting with.]
[Special Note: Since you're a Psuedo-Rider, you'll be getting the Combination Move part later.] Traits: Ah! I didn't notice that part of you the last time I saw you. Let me just give you a check up.
(QM Note: Traits are neither good nor bad, just little extras you can pick up. They cost 0 points, and you can only take 1. They're also optional.)
[ ] Walking Tech Bane
When it comes to your personal gadgets, you've always been fine. But whenever you hold or deal with any other tech, it always seems to break on you.
Becoming a Rider has not helped this problem.
[Every ally OR enemy that uses tech will have their equipment debuffed. This does not include you.]
[ ] Voidwoman
Apparently, some people just can't channel glyphs. Their presence absorbs mana just by being close to them.
You are one of those people.
[Every ally OR enemy that uses magic will have their stats debuffed. This does not include you.]
[ ] Known Reputation
Now, you aren't a Rider just yet. But in your looking around you met some… interesting… people.
[Increased Reputation with and decently easier to get into the Rider Secret Society. Flaw [They're After You] will get worse, and Umbra will already have a decent lock on you.] Flaws: As well, every Rider has their weaknesses.
[ ] (-1) Deficiency In (Social/Physical/Technical/Magical/Mental)
You like to think you're strong and multi-talented. But, well…
[-15 to chosen stat. Less EXP gain when training that stat.]
[ ] (-1) A Personal Debt
Back when you were just a high school student, you got in some trouble. You managed to get a favor from the Yakuza and some others to get out of jail, but that favor still needs to be repaid.
[Certain criminal factions, that may or may not be connected to Umbra, will be forcing you to do certain… unpleasant things in order to stay alive.]
[ ] (-1) Weak Armor
Whoever made your suit clearly missed a few details.
[Instead of detransforming when hitting 0, reaching 10 Health (Health scales to physical+Magic or Tech/2) will knock you out of your transformed state. This can be fixed, but will take some time.]
[ ] (-1) Phlebotinum Incontinence
The powers that be seem to have made it so that for you, these wonderful powers seem to come with a learning curve.
[Increased Crit Failure threshold. Gaining new forms will take longer.]
Rider Name: Oh! And one last thing…
What will others know you as?
[ ] STRIKER 002 - ROZE
[ ] Anomalous Mutant Zeke
[ ] Mashin Azalea
[ ] (Write-in here!) Authors Note:
I wrote this entire snippet while blasting all the Heisei Kamen Rider theme songs. I stand by my opinion that Switch On is still a banger theme song.
Anyways, I do have a game for you guys to pass the time: can you identify all the references to other Kamen Riders in the Theme Section? If you can, I'll give Rei 20 EXP to start.
This is the second to last part of character creation. Next, you'll be defining your Counterpart, a Magical Girl, and your relationship with them.

Character Creation 0.4: THE LOVERS (REVERSED)
Alright, ok… so that's what you are. Rei, just keep floating there while I grab my notebook.
…
So, you're still here. Geez, I'm glad that it looks like you'll be gone soon from how much you've faded, otherwise we'd be in big trouble,
Oh, don't ask why you need to get out of here soon. I've got some really bad bosses, and let's leave it at that.
Either way, wanna see this cool thing— person? Apparently, you're supposed to meet them soon. Isn't that interesting?
…
Ah. Though I've got some bad news. They've gotten into some bad situations, and might need your help. No, they don't need someone dead.
I'll explain as we go. Follow me, Noble.
Character Generation Points: 2
(Gain more by taking flaws!) Personality: As you can see, they're very…
[ ] …Curious and Inquisitive.
[ ] …Brave and Bold.

[ ] …Kind and Caring.

[ ] (write in) You know the drill: send a small description and a picture. Relationship: Now, one more question, do you know them? Don't worry, I won't erase your memories. That's my coworker's job.
[ ] (1) Old Friends Back in your past they were, well, not inseparable from you, but they were a good friend. For some reason or another, they drifted away from you, and you never thought you'd see them again,
Of course, that's going to change in your near future, considering you'll both be trying your best to be heroes.
[(Positive) Relationship with your counterpart, and relationship level 2 with them. This will serve to get through multiple obstacles in the early game.]
[ ] (0) Who? Erm… you don't know this person? Ok, let me just write down a few things…
[No special bonuses.]
[ ] (-1) Rivals on Sight You and them just don't mix, it seems. Just looking at you is like seeing oil and water shoved into a barrel together. Yikes.
[(Negative) Relationship with your counterpart. You'll be fighting your Counterpart. And if you're not fighting, they'll be trying to steal your kills for their own reasons.]
[ ] No, we're… (Write-In)
Make sure to @ the QM, so that I can decide the point cost and effects. Past: Ok. Now we get to the difficult part.
Whatever your relationship was with them, ignore it.
Because their past was… it was difficult.
[ ] Loner Have you heard of the NEET? They take all their stuff, and they get away from school. They hole up in their rooms, dive into their fantasy worlds, since the real one could never be kind to them. They live off of the scraps that their parents worked so hard for.
And eventually, they die. Alone, uncared for. Rotting.
Your counterpart is on the road to become one of these people. And if it wasn't for their destiny to be a hero… I have no doubt that they wanted to die on that road.
[HUGE debuff to social, and your counterpart will be distant from you for a good while no matter what relationship you pick.]
[ ] Fellow Weapon You met so many people as an assassin. So many good people, and bad. Of all of them, your Counterpart always seemed to stand out the most. Same age as you, same business as well.
You only saw them a few times. But whenever you saw their face, it felt like looking into a mirror.
[Gives your Counterpart the same training that you did, and also their own gun. They will also be chased by the same organization(s) you are. If they are Old Friends or similar, you two will connect easier. However, if you two are Rivals or worse, well…]
[ ] Always Left Behind Don't you know? The worst part about this world being filled with heroes is that normal people feel unwanted. Unremarkable. Those normal people want so hard to be like them, even if it's impossible.
People like them always want to chase that light of heroism. Not knowing it's just the fires of an incinerator…
[Your Counterpart will not be the most "street smart", and they will be trying to act like a regular Magical Girl/Boy. This is a mistake.]
[ ] (Write In) Subject to QM Veto.
(You might have noticed that there is no good option here.)
(There was no happiness in the past for either of you. The only way up is forward.) Wish So. That's bad. You were gritting your teeth while seeing that. I can tell, Rei. Their past was so bad that they saw fit to do something drastic.
They made a wish. Signed a contract. Signed a contract with something far, far beyond their power. Even mine. With the power of that contract, they wished for…
[ ] Their wish was… (Write-in. Subject to QM Veto, but this has very few limits. Must be something PERSONAL.) Perks: Alright, almost done. Their strengths are…
[ ] (2) Master of (Tech/Magic)
Even though they are outsiders in most places, there is one place where your counterpart shines as a rising prodigy. It is…
[Buffs to Technical/Magical. Narrative buffs as well, with them knowing people from the Tech/Magical community.]
[ ] (2) Aid From A Friend
Now, everything will be against you two. You've figured that out by now. But I can even the odds a bit. It'll cost me a bit personally, but I've already gotten used to that.
See, have you ever heard of this funny thing called Incarnation?
[Your narrator for the past few updates, Mr. REDACTED will be attempting to help out your counterpart. His powers and memories will be limited, and while he'll recognize you on sight, you won't.]
[He will still have decent knowledge of what's above and below you in the strength hierarchy, and he'll also give you deadlines and goals to work towards.]
[ ] (1) Specialty In… (Social/Physical/Mental)
Now, we've already established how fucked this person's life is. But they do have some good points, such as…
(Cannot be combined with the flaw that debuffs the same stat.)
[+10 to chosen stat. This will have narrative effects in your Counterpart]
[ ] (1) Hero Otaku
It seems that people will always seem to know way too much about the things they love. Thankfully, it's a good thing in this case.
[Your counterpart knows a lot about Magical Girl and Kamen Rider culture, and will help a lot with searching for either Society.] Flaws:
And last of all, here are their weaknesses.
[ ] (-1) Deficiency In (Social/Physical/Technical/Magical/Mental)
They are your partner, so they are strong, smart, brave… but as you know, people aren't perfect.
[-15 to chosen stat. This will have narrative effects in your Counterpart.]
[ ] (-1) A Personal Debt
Back when they were just a high school student, they got in some trouble. They managed to get a favor from the Yakuza and some others to get out of jail, but that favor still needs to be repaid.
[Certain criminal factions, that may or may not be connected to Umbra, will be forcing your Counterpart to do certain… unpleasant things in order to stay alive.]
[ ] (-1) Unending Grief
Sometime in your past, they lost someone near and dear to their heart. That grief has never truly left their soul. It is etched into their mind, acceptance just a bit out of reach.
[Minor debuff to Social. Becomes a major debuff when attempting actions that involve getting over grief or going against resulting unhealthy habits.]
[Changes to ??? (Derealization) if a certain Wish is taken.]
[ ] (-1) Phlebotinum Incontinence
For some reason, their patron has made it so that for them, their powers came with a learning curve. I won't blame them, your counterpart— it's that bastard's fault.
[Increased Crit Failure threshold. Gaining new powers will take longer.]
I see. That's the person who you're connected to.
…
Very well then.
Wake up Rei. It's about time for you to be a hero.
Good luck out there to the both of you.

Omake: New, Confusing Things
Your relationship with Trista has always been a ride. Her idea of coming out of the closet to you had been to ask you to prom after what had been, up to that point, everything but a years-long blood feud. Her shifting gears from wanting to be a veterinarian to being a forensic accountant? Shocking. Her responding to being broken up with (by you) by seducing your divorced mother inside of a week? Diabolical. You still haven't let that one go exactly, that's a level of pettiness and malice it's hard to find outside of Literally Skeletor, Overlord of Evil. So when the narrator here is telling you that this next thing that's about to happen is the most confusing and bewildering shit she's ever said to you, there's your watermark.
The Incident(tm), as you will come to think of it for many years after this, happens aboard SS Far Horizons, a passenger ship on its way to Japan. You can't fly on airplanes. No, really, you can't. You tried once, after you drowned, and even thinking about being that far from the water makes you wanna die (again). Being sufficiently inland would probably do the same thing, but thankfully almost everywhere in the Great Lakes region is literally a swamp, so it hasn't come up in your life yet, and Japan is, of course, several islands. You're three days into a week-long journey, cuddling up with pleasant bruises, fully aware that Hans and Karl in the next cabin A. heard everything and B. are slowly dying inside, as is just and righteous. Motherfucker should have listened when you told him not to walk into that bathroom. If all is right with the world, Karl is following up on whatever the fuck the "dark web" actually is, trying to put a name to the shell companies and fictitious legal entities that Trista has been ruthlessly uncovering when she's not railing you like you're both teenagers again.
And you ask the question you will come to regret: "You're not like, ditching a girlfriend or something, right? I know it's a bit fucking late for me to suddenly be worried but..."
She laughs that evil little laugh that makes your heart flutter, and ruffles your hair from behind. "No, nothing like that. My last semi-serious fling got scouted to star in some auteur's masterpiece, whatshisname, the dude who refuses to use big name actors?"
"Oh, that guy. Fuck that guy."
"Fuck that guy," Trista agrees sagely. "What about you?"
"I'm cheating on my right hand with you, I ain't ever dated anyone else," you say, offhandedly, which makes Trista bolt upright. You turn around and blink owlishly at her. "What?"
"Nobody else?" Trista presses, and when you shake your head she goes in further with, "Tell me you've at least been sleeping around." You shake your head, again, and Trista drags her hands down her face. "I cannot fucking believe you, Rachael. We're getting you laid in Japan."
"What?"
"You! Heard! Me! I cannot believe I fell for the rizz of someone who's literally fucking maidenless! We are getting you laid."
The heat rises to your cheeks as you defend yourself without thinking: "It's supposed to be all romantic and shit, okay, I broke my own heart when I left you and I shouldn't have -"
"Sounds like copium for having no bitches, Rachael, we're getting you fucking -"
There is a knock at the cabin door. You and Trista glare daggers at each other, then play a fast and silent round of rock-paper-scissors, which you lose. So you pad naked over to the door and wrench it open 'cause you're mad enough for that kinda power move.
Speaking of Skeletor, Overlord of Evil, there's several thugs in skull masks who are now pointedly looking anywhere but at you. One of them says something in, fuck, is that Japanese?
From the bed, Trista calls out: "He's asking if Rachael Miller is here and apologizing in advance if this is the wrong room."
"Well it's the right fucking room," you shoot back, before you glare at the lead thug. "Alright lich-weeb, ask 'em what they want."
Trista translates, and the first answer is so mumbled and awkward that she's got to, presumably, ask him to speak up. You tap your bare foot against the steel of the deck, avoiding the urge to fold your arms across your chest in irritation because the entire point is to make these guys feel awkward and bad. Lead Thug, Patent Pending, repeats himself haltingly at a higher volume.
"Huh," Trista says. "He says you've interfered in their business, your doom is at hand, the destroyer is manifest, etc, and is also asking if you could please get dressed."
"He here to kill me?"
Another awkward exchange of words, then Tristra's translation: "Yeah, pretty much."
"Well fuck him then, he can kill me with my tits out or not at all. Actually, wait, Trista, can you ask him if I can pray to my god real quick before he goes for it?"
Now Trista looks confused, which is a win in your books, but she translates. The Lead Thug(tm) nods his assent, and you hold your hands up and back up towards where your wallet sits on the bedroom floor (you fell out of the habit of purses when you started sailing). You open it up with no sudden movements, pull out a single dollar bill, and kneel in reverence, holding it up above your head as if it is descending from Heaven.
"Translate for me," you tell Trista, whose confusion is warring with equal parts concern and pure, unadulterated wrath, but as you start speaking slowly she falls naturally into the role of translator.
"Almighty Dollar," you call out, "I face a greater trial than I ever have in my short life." You pause so Trista can do her thing. "Wicked men come to claim my life far from my homeland, where my body will be fed to the sea rather than turned into hamburgers as is our way. O great and powerful Dollar, I ask for the strength to do one last thing before I die."
There it is. Trista's slipping into an easy, automatic rhythm, broken up just enough by her trying not to laugh that she's going to drop your next line before she thinks better of it.
"Great and powerful Dollar," you cry out, "grant me the strength to fuck these men's fathers and give them children worth loving!"
Trista translates. The thugs start choking in outrage and disgust, and Trista soon follows as she realizes what she just said. Which is all the distraction you need; you leap up directly at the Lead Thug(tm) and cry out, "In the name of the voiceless!" The crashing, freezing waves of the initial transformation swats aside his two closest confederates before your Voiceless Harpoon impales him through the gut, along with the man behind him, and the man behind him, filling the air with the iron tang of blood and the sickly sweet scent of ruptured intestines.
"Drown with me," you growl, and the Lake comes flooding in.
It is always dark, and cold, and lonely, in your Lake. There is no up; there is no down. The sun is a distant memory, and the only signs of life are tatters of weeds and the ever-swarming schools of sturgeon. The pressure is immense for any living human, and as you watch impassively blood leaks out from beneath the skull masks, clouding the waters further while they clutch at their necks or fumble for guns that will never penetrate the water to reach you.
The Lead Thug is trying to reach you, and you don't move at all.
You sing, quietly, while nine men die at your hands.
"The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down
Of the big lake they call Gitche Gumee
The lake, it is said, never gives up her dead
When the skies of November turn gloomy
With a load of iron ore twenty-six thousand tons more
Than the Edmund Fitzgerald weighed empty
That good ship and true was a bone to be chewed
When the gales of November came early..."
Eventually, they stop moving. A little bit after that, the hulking iron form of Edmund Fitzgerald glides through your Lake, and picks up your latest sailors. You don't swim out of your Lake, or banish it, or anything like that; one moment you are in lightless depths that are not, have never been, and never will be the domain of Man, and the next you are in a waterlogged ship's corridor, with a thin layer of freezing fog everywhere.
"Get dressed," you murmur to Trista. "This won't be the last of them."
"How do you know?" Trista whispers, but she's dressing with great haste. As if to answer her, something slams into the side of the ship, sending the cabin rocking almost forty-five degrees.
You sigh. "Because bitches only act tough when they think they have backup, love."
