[ ] Creative Sponsorships - A junior physicist has made the suggestion that by sponsoring the work of fiction authors (particularly science fiction), interest in space, science, and the IEC could be generated outside the bounds of colleges and classrooms. This sparked another suggestion from one of the Outreach department's people - broaden the sponsorship from simply authors to filmmakers and more traditional artists as well. This would help reach even more people than before, they thought. (10R per die, 0/400) (-5R per turn when done, provides additional variable passive PS income and can result in shuffled costs and requests at World Council meetings.)

I feel like this combined with launching our first proper satellite would have great synergy, and start to get the world excited about space and the IEC. Not sure if the timetable on both lines up though.

Lot of freedom this time, we're almost done with our promises!
I'm probably not going to make a plan this time, merely stir the pot, but I'd like to point out a few things:
  • We can launch 4 R-1s this turn, without doing any assembly actions. However, the R-1 no longer gains us scientific data, so it's probably not worth it to build more at present.
  • It'd be optimal to only put a single dice into the new matsci complex, that way we avoid over-paying if we roll above a ~40 or whatever.
  • Those 500-ton pads are probably good for a while, so they seem like a sound investment. Titan II GLV was 150 tons on the pad, and that's with all the compromises of being an ICBM first, launch vehicle second. However, it might be a good idea to conduct those studies on what makes for good infrastructure before we build new pads and find out they've got serious flaws that requrie remediation. Said studies are also really cheap, which is good, but it sounds like they'll require launching an R-3.
  • Fuck me, tracking stations are expensive. Do we need more than phase one complete before we put our first satellites up?
  • After all this is done, we should keep building those science complexes. They're relatively cheap, they provide a strong bonus, and they're in the public good.
  • Like the matsci complex, we shouldn't put more than two dice into any single engineering project to prevent excess.
  • Two dice on nuclear power studies would finish it off, but doing so would bring a -15 PS hit; it might be better to only put in one. Given how well we're doing on the orbital rocket, we don't need the +5 to PHYS that urgently, and it might be smart to wait until we see what the Council's objectives are for next year before we go too far on the nuclear front? If we really can't afford a -15 PS hit, then we can delay it, and if not, finishing it off would give us a nice stat boost. Exploratory propellant research could be fun, especially when it comes to getting cheap, effective solid boosters to help get us off the ground faster.
  • For politics, bothering councillors and creative sponsorships seem like good investments, especially when it comes time to convince the Council that our satellite programs are worth funding in three/fifteen months.

I think we should try to build R3s to help get ready for an orbital launch.

Does this work?

[] Plan: Rockets and Preparing for Orbital
-[] Construct an R-3 Snow - The Heavy Sounding Rocket, now known as the Snow, is ready for construction. It's a sizeable rocket, but thankfully you have a sizeable pad to launch it from. Unfortunately, it won't ever fit on a Stormchaser. (25R per dice, 0/80, costs 1 Build Capacity until complete) (5 dice)
--[] And launch it (free action for Sounding Rockets) (gains Scientific Data, launch experience, results to show the people funding you) (Unlocks Weather Observation Campaigns)
-- [] Also launch all of the R-1 Bedens.
-[ ] Build a Scientific Complex - 1 die (25R per die, 406/450, opens up new research possibilities, +1d5+5 bonus in the associated field, +1 Education for the region)
--[] Dnipro Aerospace Metallurgy Centre (MATSCI) [Korolev]
-[ ] Expand the Assembly Complex - 2 dice, 40R (20R per die, 0/350, changes 2 Build Capacity to 1 Program slot, enabling campaigns to be run 'in the background', passively gaining experience and science, +3 Build Capacity)
-[ ] Study Effects of Launches on Launch Infrastructure - 3 dice, 15R (5R per die, 0/200, improves future launch infrastructure)
- [ ] Conduct Design Studies (First Satellite) (Phase I) [PHYS, FUEL, COMP]
-[ ] Nuclear Power Studies [PHYS] - 3 dice, 45R (15R per die, 217/400) (-15PS on completion, +4 to PHYS) (Opens further nuclear research)
-[ ] Rocket Boxes (Phase 4) - 2 dice, 10R (5R per die, 64/450. Gives Rocket Boxes to every middle-school, high-school and university or equivalent in South America and the Pacific Islands. Encourages future scientists and engineers - some of whom will even come work with the IEC.)
-[ ] Engineering Job Fair - 1 die (56/150, 5R per dice, -5R per turn on completion. Gain +1 Engineering dice)

I really think we need to timing-out our satelite program and rocket reasonably close together. I'd like to see two dice on the satellite design and one on the R-4 launcher.

Ok! New Plan fresh from the Discord Bureau! Originally based on @blankmask 's plan until I realized how wildly over budget that one was. Ended up changing quite a lot.

[X] Plan: Big Rockets and Where to Launch Them
Operations (3/5 dice, +3 bonus)
-[X] Construct an R-3 Snow - 3 dice 75 R (25R per dice, 0/80, costs 1 Build Capacity until complete)
--[X] And launch it (free action for Sounding Rockets) (gains Scientific Data, launch experience, results to show the people funding you) (Unlocks Weather Observation Campaigns)
-- [X] Also launch all of the R-1 Bedens.
Facilities (5/6 dice, +10 bonus)
-[X] Tracking Station Construction (Phase I) - 1 dice 30 R (30R per die, 0/350, adds equatorial tracking for rocket launches)
-[X] Build a Scientific Complex
--[X] Dnipro Aerospace Metallurgy Centre (MATSCI) [Korolev]
-[X] Study Effects of Launches on Launch Infrastructure - 3 dice, 15R (5R per die, 0/200, improves future launch infrastructure)
Engineering (3/3 dice, +6 Bonus to All)
-[X] Conduct Design Studies (R-4 Dawn) (Phase III) [AERO, PHYS, FUEL] - 3 dice 45 R (15R per dice) (108/300)
Science (2/3 dice, +6 Bonus to All)
-[X] Nuclear Power Studies [PHYS] - 2 dice, 30R (15R per die, 217/400) (-15PS on completion, +4 to PHYS) (Opens further nuclear research)
Politics (3/3 dice, +10 bonus, reroll 1 failure per turn)
-[X] Rocket Boxes (Phase 4) - 1 dice, 10R (5R per die, 64/450)
-[X] Engineering Job Fair - 2 die 5 R(56/150, 5R per dice, -5R per turn on completion. Gain +1 Engineering dice)

Dice used: 16/20
R used: 235/235

Focus is on preparing us for the Big Rocket. I decided to focus on finishing the R4 design before we work on the Satellites, since for Satellites we probably need the tracking stations and those are going to take far longer than constructing an R4. So we'll want to do launches with non-Satellite payloads first.

We're also launching an R3, because we need to for the Launch Pad studies, evidently. And also cause it's cool.

The budget was pretty tight, but the only things I ended up needing to cut were the third nuke die and the last facilities die. On all other fronts we're firing on all cylinders!

@Strunkriidiisk btw your plan is also over budget 260/235. I think cause you miscounted costs in Facilities?

Just caught up on the quest! Seems like good fun, even if a not insignificant amount of the rocket stuff goes over my head.

MOGADISHU - New rail lines connecting Mogadishu to Cairo in the northwest and Cape Town in the southwest began work from both sides of the lines, with completion expected within the next year. The rail lines will double as electrical interconnections, as the trains used will be all-electric models, both passenger and cargo…
Eat shit Cecil Rhodes the cape-to-cairo railway will be a socialist project! Got a -- partisans in Africa too, nice.

Anyways, great to see this quest alive again, even if I unfortunately was and perhaps still am in a poor headspace for getting deep into it.
