1) They are confined to their campus. Haven't interacted with the outside world yet. The Cloning Tech is kept hidden away.

Understandable. I'd bring in some of the islands the world has and scatter them around. Bring in the Air Pirates for the possibility to recruit Tron Bonne (mechanical engineering genius) and her family. Probably have the systems that wants to wipe out the carbon (artificial humans) be a small faction and confused on how to advance given the end goal was to bring humanity back from extinction.
