Factions of the USA
Far West
For this, I'm going with what how the Bureau of Economic Analysis classifies the regions of United States. In this case, the Far West includes California, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, and Hawaii. Alaska is also under this, but due to it's unique geography and distance, I hope you understand why it was given it's own file.
The United States Department of Unified Protection (inFAMOUS: Second Son): More commonly known as D.U.P, this federal government agency is controversial for very good reasons. One of these reasons being it's director, Brooke Augustine, with her brutal methods to capture "bio-terrorists". With her most infamous (no pun intended) action being brutally interrogating the Akomish tribe by stabbing them full of bits of concrete, before leaving them behind to die a slow painful death.
Interestingly, the events of the game's good ending has happened, and Brooke should be behind bars with DUP shut down, but the merge changed things. Since the states needs more boots on the ground, D.U.P is refunded and Brooke is released, though reportedly on a tighter leash.
Augustine herself is in interesting character, being a conduit with power over concrete, yet propagandizing her kind in a negative light. In truth, she wishes to prevent mass death (the tribe doesn't count, apparently...) and believes imprisoning conduits is the only way to prevent that from happening.
D.U.P themselves are staffed by soldiers that, through artificial means, are capable of manipulating concrete similar to their director, though not to the extent she's able to, and are specialized in capturing "bio-terrorists". Their primary location is in Seattle, with the residents there not being too happy to see them wonder the streets again.
Still, they have been useful for keeping local zombie population in check (State of Decay), so the populous at least tolerates them for the moment.
Korean People's Army (Homefront): In one timeline, Kim Jong Un successfully led a peaceful reunification with South Korea leading to the birth of the Greater Korean Republic (GKR) a technological and economic global power that comprises the military strength of the North and the economic power of the South. After a series of events where the GKR becomes a superpower and the USA is on the decline, America is invaded after a nuclear weapon is detonated from orbit over North America, with the EMP killing electronics across 75% of the continent.
The Korean People's Army (or KPA), follows the rules of the mandated cliches of oppressive forces by executing people in front of their children, sending those who cannot be indoctrinated into the KPR to labor camps, brainwashes children into child soldiers, mass graves, the works. However, the Event seems to have hurt them even harder then the occupying forces in Alaska, with Korea divided once more, the North in shambles, and the South not even daring to entertain the idea of helping those attacking American soil.
However, they occupy a fair chunk of California, in particular San Francisco, and the biggest worry is not if they'll be removed, but how much damage they'll do before that happens.
Section 13 (Jackie Chan Adventures): A secret government organization and an extension of INTERPOL dedicated to dealing with hyper-criminal elements that the normal authorities are no match for. Led by Captain Black, Section 13 is based underground in San Francisco, California (specifically within North Beach), and stores various mystical artifacts in order to keep them hidden and safe from evil forces and some dangerous items contained.
As of now, they're currently the ones leading espionage against the KPA, and have even allied with the DedSec members in the state (Watch_Dogs 2) for their more tech-savvy endeavors.
New California Republic (Fallout): From a post-apocalyptic world, they're primarily located in southern California, with additional territorial holdings in northern California, Oregon, and Nevada. Considering itself an inheritor to pre-War values of democracy, personal liberty and rule of law, the NCR has developed a highly expansionist culture, undertaking colonization efforts and military expeditions into neighboring regions in order to "civilize" them. However these policies are not without controversy, with many within and outside the Republic have come to criticize it as hawkish and prone to corruption.
Now in a (slightly) less apocalyptic America, many wonder what current President Aaron Kimball will handle things. Kimball is an expansionist "war hawk", but it seems he at least sees the writing on the wall. While he's continuing to annex land, the common theory is that he's planning on having the Republic join the government proper, and bringing in more land doing this will give him more value in political scene. Perhaps to even be president of the fully formed USA.
The Sons of Anarchy Motorcycle Club (Sons of Anarchy): While Charters exist across the states and even overseas, California has the most, including it's Mother Chapter, Sons of Anarchy Motorcycle Club Redwood Original, or SAMCRO. An outlaw motorcycle club known for selling guns to various gangs, all the while protecting their town from other gangs, to big corporations, chain stores, and other corrupt aspects of upper-class suburbia. All in exchange for the authorities to look the other way.
Lately, they've been making bank and goodwill from arming resistances against the less popular players (namely the KPA), and are currently seen as a lesser evil to many.
The Free Economic Zone of New Vegas (Fallout: New Vegas): In a world heading for nuclear war, Robert Edwin House, known to most as Mr. House, used his wealth, connections, and intelligence to form a plan that would save city of Las Vegas and that he would live to see the world after the war. Placing his enhanced physical body within a life-support device, his brain was wired directly into his vast information network via an enormous supercomputer. However, the platinum chip, containing a vital OS upgrade for his Securitrons and the laser defense network, was lost due to a miscalculation of mere hours. Now forced to work with an inferior OS, House was only able to disable most of the nuclear warheads instead of all of them.
Despite this, House was able to use his inefficient systems to establish his rule by enlisting the help of raider tribes living in the ruins and rebuilt the city, establishing it as the Free Economic Zone of New Vegas and styling himself as its president, CEO and sole proprietor.
Since the Event, House has been a key player and powerhouse in the Mojave Wasteland. Now looking for ways to improve his systems with the new resources available to him, his goal seems to prevent annexation and keep at least some level of independence from the rest of the nation. There are also rumors of him gaining a presence in Cyberspace, though it's unknown to what extent.
Kingdom of Hawaii: This is a mess all in itself, but the short of it is that deities from Hawaiian Mythology, with assistance from the experiments from Lilo & Stitch and the Pokémon of Alola, have seceded from the United States. It's uncertain how the States will take to this once they get their act together, but since they've been making alliances with other islands (I'll go into more detail of this once I get around to Factions of Oceania), they may think taking it back will be more of a hassle then it's worth.
Weirdness Triangle (Gravity Falls): Likely our biggest issue on this side of the coast, this area of Oregon seems to be a magnet for "weirdness", cryptids, Wesen (Grimm), miscellaneous aliens, and other bizarre monsters like Slenderman (though oddly enough, he seems more interested in getting $20 then anything else).
Still, what makes things worrying is the "King of Weirdness", Bill Cipher. To put it simply, Bill has the powers of a higher-end god, and is only physically contained thanks to the Natural Law of Weirdness Magnetism. Even still, not only is Bill looking for a way to break it, but his influence isn't bound from the Dream Realm. Bill can visit dreams, either to mess with them, seek information, or make a deal. Bill can possess those who make a deal with him, and with the world's current state of affairs, he's in no shortage of volunteers.
(
DISCLOSURE: Bill has the ability to see through anything "made in his image", aka, triangles. With this in mind, please avoid using the shape in any way in areas you wish to be kept secret.)
Killjoy...
