Daryl puts his phone away. "You're on the basketball team Jace?"
He nods, "Gonna be Captain this year. If we can get some good guys on the team, we could go to state."
"You think you'll go to state every year"
Jace sends an annoyed look at Chandra. "All we need are a couple of good players and we can make it." Turning back to Daryl, Jace starts his pitch. "Tryouts are on the third Monday after school starts back up, if your interested, we're always looking for good players"
Daryl nods, "Maybe I will. Anyway, what can you tell me about the mall?"
Jace blinks at the subject change, "It's not my favorite place, but it's pretty nice, got pretty much every kind of store there is. And if it isn't inside the mall, it's going to be somewhere close by. There's a couple of big sports stores I go to, can't find a good pair of basketball shoes anywhere else in town. The movie theaters out there, along with the big box stores, and what must be over a hundred restaurants and party places."
"Chandra, speaking of parties, what kind are there around here?"
Chandra smiles and leans against the SUV in the driveway. "There are lots of parties, of many kinds. This late in the summer, you've already missed them. Most won't start throwing parties again until the school year gets started though, where it's easier to organize. The rich kids are having a big back to school party in the Babylon Garden's boat house Saturday, but that's a gated community, invitation only. Lils invited me, but you'd have to find someone who lives there to invite you in."
Daryl shrugs his shoulders, "Unlikely for that to happen. So, what's Milden Park like?"
Jace answers this time. "Nothing particularly special, the basketball courts and other sports areas are pretty nice, and it's kept up, but it's a pretty standard city park. There are some good shops and restaurants around it though."
"It also has a great picnic area, with covered tables and grills, which we're going to use for the party."
Daryl looks to at the shadows, realizing that's it's already mid-afternoon. "I don't suppose either of you would like to help me explore the Neighborhood? Maybe later, when you're done gardening or whatever?"
Jace frowns at this, "We can't really get away, Chandra needs to get everything finished by tonight. Perhaps another time."
Chandra shrugs "He's right, I've really spent enough time on this break talking to you, enjoyable as it was. Though if you want, we could always use some more help, and we could keep talking while we work?"

Chandra pushes herself off the SUV. "I'll go get you some gloves, be right back."
As she heads back inside, Jace moves over and starts talking in a low voice. "Just so you know, I've lived across from her for pretty much my whole life. We're planning to go to college together, so don't go starting something with her, K?"
[] Daryl puts his hands up "Hey, it's cool, I'm not a home-wrecking kind of guy."
[] Daryl looks Jace in the eyes, "I think that's up to Chandra to say if she's available or not."
As Chandra comes back and hands you a pair of gloves, Jace glowers at you when she isn't looking. Soon the three of you are hard at work pulling weeds and distributing fresh wood chips in the flower beds.
"So," Daryl asks Chandra, "Who is this 'Lils' that invited you to the boat house party?"
Chandra dumps a handful of weeds into the bucket, Jace frowns as she replies. "Liliana has been my best friend since kindergarten, her Mom's an executive up at Boeing, she's in charge of selling a lot of stuff to the military, which is why they live in Babylon Gardens."
"I'm guessing Babylon Gardens is where the rich people live around here then?"
"Right, it's over by the river, with a decent size artificial lake. It's also gated, with actual security guards running the gate, along with patrolling the fence. There are parks, a golf course, plenty of sports places, even a few stores inside, almost like a little town."
Daryl thanks Chandra for telling him so much about the area, then decides to try and drag Jace back into the conversation. "Hey Jace, who long you been playing basketball?"
Jace looks over to you from where he was cleaning up. "Since 4th grade. Done pretty well, I'd say. Coach thinks I can get a basketball scholarship to pretty much anywhere decent. Would have had a State championship-" Chandra winces as Jace's voice grew in volume. "If someone had kept their big mouth shut about Steve smoking a joint at one of his parties that we were at."
Chandra catches Daryl's eye, shaking her head at you.

The promise doesn't take effect till school starts, so you don't have to do it until the next Weekdays turn, which will be the first week of school. And it's X actions = X experience. So one action of magical research will give 1 XP, two actions of it will give 2 XP, etc. And for Jace, you've got 9 months or so before you graduate, so there's plenty of time for you to steer him into some character development. Or magic. Or you can ignore him. All are equally valid paths.

That seems a little low for xp per action. That makes the bonus xp from votes generally more effective that putting actions towards it.

Hmm, on the one hand I really don't like how possessive Jace is being of Chandra. Just because you've been friends with a girl for a long time, spend a lot of time being nice to her, does not mean you have some sort of right to her. The girl gets to make her own choices.
On the other hand, I do not want to start something with one of the first people we met. We don't even know Chandra all that much at this point.
I think I'm favoring the non answer. He will bring it up again later, but he wont have enough evidence to start shit-talking about us behind our backs yet. We need to get a decent social base before we piss him off proper.

This plan has a bit of everything we need. We finish getting the lay of the land around our house, we meet new people/make friends at Chandra's party, we work on our car a bit (@Gear is there a point where working on the car no longer costs XP due to having the needed spells already?), and it gets us another XP in case we need to learn a basic level 1 spell to deal with an immediate problem.

You have mind magic, you have rituals, and you have enchantments. I'm sure you guys can figure out a way to get more XP out of an action.
Yeah, that's kind of leftover, and a just in case. The basic spells you have are perfectly fine for fixing the frame, and most of the other options, up another level.

0.4 Picnic Party in the Park
It was rather late when Daryl, Chandra, and Jace finished cleaning up her yard, and so he left exploring the Neighborhood to another day, though his time with Chandra and Jace ended on a rather strained note. Perhaps he'll find out more at the party, when he can ask some of their other friends.
Daryl spent some time working with his magic and doing some work on the car's frame, smoothing it out, making sure that it was properly aligned and such. Mostly detail work, after he's finished, it doesn't look half bad. Although all those places where it was bent would remain weak points on the frame till he could get some more advanced magic to deal with it. (Frame now at 'Not so bad', needs better magic to improve anymore)
On Tuesday evening, Chandra texted him that the Party would be Thursday afternoon. And that everyone had to bring at least one non-store bought food item.

Wednesday was spent finishing that walk around the Neighborhood, and he didn't see Chandra or Jace over at their houses, he did discover a stripmall and gas station within walking distance of his house. Wasn't much to it, a pizza place, convenience store, optometrist, a dyalisis clinic, drug store, and a small chain clothing store Daryl had never heard of.
The next day, after Nicole dropped Daryl off at the park with his [FOOD CHOICE] and some chips and two liters, which were quickly deposit on the picnic tables loaded down with food from everyone else.
Chandra's fiery hair was rather easy to spot. She was talking to another girl in a sort of goth style purple dress with black hair. Daryl could see Jace on one of the basketball courts, playing with some other teens, the basketball team he supposes.
He could also see a rather striking tall dark haired boy talking to a group over by one of the tables, a short haired blonde with an eye patch sitting next to a brown haired man wearing a Reboot t-shirt of all things, a woman with blue hair over by the plastic wading pool someone had brought, and a tall, severe, and rather well dressed dark haired girl, surrounded by a group of similarly dressed girls.

Because she invited us, and we want her to introduce us to people.
If we want to use any magic, we want it to be before we start talking to people, because who knows what they'll pick up on if we do it next to them. I don't think it will be necessary, though.
