Magical Girl Home Base Quest

All this worrying about affordability and pricing is hilariously off the mark. Our first construction, a level 1 wand, cost us 1 mundane resource and was paid for with 20 mundane resources. Or to put it another way, the supplies cost us about $500 in resources and was sold for $10,000. (A $9,500 profit!) And that's apparently a cheap price despite it being a shitty basic Tier 1 wand that won't even last long.

Even our level 1 items are worth enough in supplies that, for a fair price, we could bankrupt any one of our MGs. Meanwhile, the cost to upgrade from making a level 1 item to a level 3 item is only going from 1 resource to 3 resources. It's cheap as heck for us to build items. Not making too expensive items is worrywarting about a problem we don't really have, because by the very nature of our business we're undercharging massively for our services every. Single. Time. (And arguably that also includes the shitty hotel lodging, food, backstreet medical services, etc.)

Keeping our MGs alive as best we can is our business model. And our greatest limiting factor isn't resource income but time. We only get to make one item a week. One! Until that changes, we're not running the kind of complicated business that can bother with making a more affordable line of product. Later on, maybe we'll want to crank out cheap Tier 1 wands for those who can't afford better. But right now the market price of our products is whatever the heck we want it to be. (You can be sure no one's undercutting us on price, that's for sure.)

Yeah, I don't think we need to care about the price, they can pay in indentured labor if they run out.
The only girls who can't afford anything are those who already owe us labor.

The only thing we really need to worry about is Mundane, since that's consumed by upkeep on people in our motel and by upgrading the lab or the motel (I believe). We can swap resources, but that takes time and energy from our MC. Per the spreadsheet, it looks like Sofia's rent is just keeping pace with outflow right now, but we should definitely be on the lookout to score more Mundane if all other things are equal.

Important thing to remember also about selling our craft is that WE decide the price. There is no set price, the girls make their offers and we decide which one to take.

I don't see how that last one has anything to do with this quest.
Probably due to Harry working in both magical and mundane worlds. Can't say for certain, haven't read the books.
I see a few reasons why Dresden Files is referenced.

1. As @Icipall states Dresden deals in the mundane as well as magical.
2. Dresden Files' world is rather crapsack if you think about it... but through actions of Harry and others like him people do successfully stand against the darkness.
3. The Paranet. Something that Harry fostered the creation of, is a organizing and coordination/information distribution system which allowed minor talents to share information and warn of events to others. Making things much safer for those who don't have enough power to be considered Wizards and be a part of the White Council. Trying to coordinate and bring together magical girls is a big thing in this quest eventually.

Huh. The more you know.

[X] Keep her in a cleared-out room: she's not inherently a bad person, and the artifact shrapnel in her could lead to some interesting research possibilities.

Like it or not, Jocelyn is knowledgeable and we can use her to our advantage. Also, a little sums up what I think.

"Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer."

Isn't the swapping of resources for mundande automatic if we run out of mundane? The main cost that is that it's random if I remember right.

We had that argument a dozen pages or so ago.

The exchange has no mechanical cost. It does, however, narratively take a few days out of MCs time and some of his mental wellbeing to cart the stuff off to the flea market and spend hours selling chunks of it to people.

You ahouldn't think of this as a commerce, we don't take a price because it's valuable, we take a price because we need resources to keep the place going, to make more things and to upgrade things, all of which use up resources. So even if we can choose the offer to accept, our idea is to help those girls, and we must first think of this when making the choice. Thus, we must focus on who needs what, and if they can't pay right now, we can ask for some work, sometimes. If we accept work all the time, then eventually we will run out of resources, but every once in a while it is acceptable, and will allow us to keep the girls safe, our main concern.

Yes, I know. That's the whole point of this quest. We decide who gets the items in the end.

Eh, not a good roll on the crafting there but the rest all went alright.

Tyrfang seems to be overcompensating for all those curses by being remarkably blessed.

Just another reason to upgrade the workshop really, make low rolls not sting so much. Shame that'll have to wait a while, we've got girls to equip and rooms to setup.

Yes, it is a trend. Whenever we have some respite, no girls with leaks in their equips and no immediate fires to put out, we should upgrade. But it's already ALOT better than if this roll was made on a level1 wand without the upgraded workshop, so don't get too worried, things are steadily getting better ;)

Is that before or after the trinket that's still on the docket? And maybe a costume for Trompdoy, girl needs something to take a hit for her.
I'm convinced that Homer will complain if we hog all the magical experimenting for too long. He hasn't been able to use the Library 2 weeks in a row. I want to upgrade the building and then build a trinket or costume for Trompdoy the following turn.
