an stc of a better radio or a more resistant variety of kevlar that would make clothing last longer are awesome boons to sell without being absolute universe breaking items. we dont need robodog and power armour to have a nice quest reward.

Yeah, some more mundane finds would be nice, just some upgrades to existing tech.

on the otherhand, i want to make an observation about dice mechanics. to make a D&D analogy, rolling a 20 doesnt mean you can sleep with the dragon, if anything it just means that your character doesnt get incinerated from the attempt. you need repeated good checks for a prolonged period of time to make that happen. the crit gives you the opportunity not the reward itself. giving in to player demands all the time steals the challenge that makes the reward rewarding. make us earn the dragon sex , dont just gift it to us.

I have tried to get that to happen, actually. If you guys DIDN'T KEEP CRITING ON THE DECIPHER ROLLS you would have to decode the resulting data slowly by rolling a raw d100 every turn until you reach the target. As for what you get, I've put 7-8 things on a wheel and spun it. I'm honestly flabbergasted you lucky bastards keep hitting the top shelf items.

Edit: Except for the Obelisk, that was always going to give you the hound schematic. I just didn't think everything was going to explode so soon.

QM what is the Deciphering in the obelisk roll, like i know the +20 is our genius trait but what is the +10 in those rolls, because every single one enigmatic box does have +10 too ? it is because of the mechanicus forces that we have with us ?

i'm not really that worried with power spike because, yes we do have the blueprint but can we mass produce it (somewhat) without other enemies going hell over us to get this relics for their benefit hell no, like even if we have all this massive luck this still is 40k so if we get a for exemple a bad roll in a random event ''oh look at that it is a chaos invasion on this new planet, it is almost as if they know something really powerfull is there'' like the QM has so many opportunity to make us suffer before we have our foundation build that it is not even funny, shit with the mechanicus, the inquisition, chaos, eldar ,orks, damm nids like you guys are hyping to much our potential because right now we are a guy with too much luck and too little power to stop anything to fuck with us, we really are in the arms of the dices now

The +20 was not from your genius trait, as you aren't involved in the direct work on the artifacts (because the Mechanicus don't let the uninitiated mess with them) but instead from the
[X]Exert additional focus on the artifacts
Action you did. The +10 comes from the Large Forge Temple, as stated in the description

I just hope our contact can offer us some nice licenses especially after that Crit. We really need to get armor and vehicles for our security.

We also need to visit our friendly PDF and get soldiers. We would have lost our entire security at the elevator just from that assault, along with who knows how many workers.

Yeah your contact will have a catalog of items (basically the same as the Mechanicus Diplo turn). And don't forget about your PMC who has men available for hire

A New Reality
A New Reality

One body among many shuffled in the midst of the crowd as he finished his shift. He reminded himself of the Hard earned lessons his father had imparted upon him. "Pragmatism is born out of pessimism" he'd said " as every second spent hoping for an extra ration or a new set of clothes was a second not spent chipping away at his quota."" If lack of motivation was the problem then the foreman will be quick to provide" he'd say as he showed the numerous 'reminders' that scarred his back. Slowly as to not bring upon unwanted attention he brushed upon the reminders on his own body.

None of which were recent.

Changing employers had not been an easy decision. The chances of ending up in some sadistic hell were always greater than the ones ending up in someplace marginally better. Yet out of bravery or stupidity he had taken the plunge, the results of which were unexpected to say the least.

When he arrived a few weeks ago, he was relieved to find he was assigned quarters, having thankfully avoided the initiation period where newly employed workers were without quarters and relegated to sleeping on the factory floor as to quickly weed out the weakest among them. Moreover he was surprised to find that not only he was assigned a sleeping spot, the assignment only mentioned his name, no more hotbunking for him it would seem.

Still a pessimist at heart he would continue to watch and wait.

But only upon arrival did he start to disbelieve his luck when he reached a corridor that led to rooms, not barracks but rooms. All of which contained actual beds rather than cots.

His paranoia would only increase from there.

It was well known that upon transfer you should buy as much safety equipment as the commissary allowed by indebting yourself. Sure the first year would be dull without the soul soothing properties of amasec but his nine remaining digits could attest to the usefulness of good gloves. Pushing 40 and still being as whole as he was was no accident.

Queue his surprise when he was told how his work uniform would be provided to him for free, with only one person having worn it before him no less!

And so, as weeks trudged along he waited for the other shoe to drop.

Waiting for the day that the foreman realized that he was but a lowly laborer occupying the quarters of those more skilled than him. Waiting for the day that the clerical mistake that had allowed him untold luxury would be robbed from him.

And so the watcher held his watch.

Watching and waiting.

The telltale sound of whipping of his work gang companions notably absent, with occurrences being weekly rather than hourly.

And so he kept waiting.

Work stoppages due to grievous injuries were even rarer than the whippings.

So he waited and watched.

Yet the end of the quarter came and went with little fanfare, no obligatory overtime to cover some corrupt managers overambitious quotas, no bribe for the guards for protection against excessive beatings, no delays in his paycheck nor missing half of it due to a clerical mistake which would never be solved. But in its place a small bonus due to his productivity during the month.

And so the waiting finally came to a stop. After all, there is only so much a human mind can take.

Had he gone mad? had his mind dropped his grip on reality? Had he died only to reincarnate to continue his service to the emperor?

His prayers for the answers he so desperately needed went unanswered like so many had before them.

A dangerous feeling overcame him, with each shift chipping away at his deadened heart. A feeling which he had not felt since his youth spread across his chest like a flame. That poison which had driven so many before him to their early deaths.

Hope.

If this was madness, then he would embrace it wholeheartedly.

And so the ever waiting watchman stood down for the first time in his 30 years of service, put in his hours and rested , truly rested, for the first time since he could remember.

Meeting an Old Friend
You travel up the Hive, preparing yourself both for the negotiations ahead and the reunion with an old friend. After exiting the lift you and your bodyguard squad head towards your old haunt, a hole in the wall restaurant/café/library abomination which was apparently founded by some noble who hated being around the high nobility (not that you blame them of course) where your meeting with Sonia Kure-Qvund will take place. After arriving there you are led to a private booth and your bodyguards disperse throughout the area to both screen for hostiles and to give you privacy. After exchanging the usual pleasantries you spend some time reminiscing, trading gossip, and bemoaning your problems to each other both to fill each other in and to relax. Sonia tell you that she is hurt that you didn't come to her first with the Impaler STC but understands as it's obvious you extracted more from the Magos than she could have given you, but is overjoyed that you've come to her now as a couple different things have come together to increase the selection she has available for trade. She lays outs what she has to offer and you 2 get down to haggling

I think we should upgear our security forces to this standard, especially if we are preparing to colonize a planet at the end of this arc.

Or we could skip Flak Vest and go straight for Carapace Armour. Our security forces are still limited here, and a well armored security force I think makes it easier to justify a millita of skilled workers armed with more basic gear.
