...FUCK YOU, DICE!!! FUCK YOU AND YOUR BLATANT FAVORITISM FOR THIS MASS-MURDERING ASSHOLE!!!

At least the other Stuff went mostly well, but I'm too angry to write anything more right now.

Can we try again to dismante Robespierre's reputation some more at a later time?

I am going to ask you to calm down...

Mostly because it could be far far worse.
I don't see how. He looks dead-set to return any second as soon as we trip up even slightly. The Boni we put on the Rolls were utterly wasted too. This whole thing was pointless!

...Or did the +50 we put on the Rolls actually change anything? Like, would we have an active Pro-Robespierre Resistance against us building up and no clue at all on his possible whereabouts if we hadn't done that?

Also, can we try again on discrediting him at a later date?

Without those +50 roll bonuses, France would have gained one very bad, National Spirits.

The Corrupted Myth of the Revolution.

THat being, Robespierre and his ilk, not you, not Napoleon, not anyone else would be viewed as the true heroes of the Revolution, where everyone else was opportunistic power-mad people who used the revolution for your own gain. Even though he and his ilk caused most of the Chaos that France finds itself in currently.

That would have, every 4 turns, made the disaster roll have a whopping -20 to the disaster roll, which could, in turn, make France go from Chaotic Government to Failed State.

To Shattered Nation.

This is a gross oversimplification and that is if the Disaster Roll and Napoleon constantly failed for several turns... but that was a plan.

Well... there this bit of information from the Critical Rolls section of the Rules and Mechanics:
You can negate a Nat. Fail if a bonus is applied to the roll, just be reasonable in application of points (don't cheese).

Still, this is annoying... and something that could have been avoided had we not given Robespierre a trial when we first deposed him.

Oh Rob, why do the dice want you alive so bad and in power?
seriously, the dice keep putting him in power just to knock him down when he goes mad and somehow he keeps getting back in power

...Well, that changes it of course. Then I'm SO glad we did that.

Now the situation is still not ideal, but not catastrophic either. We can still salvage this.

...Aaaaand, I now have the absolutely GLORIOUS and hilarious Image of Robby as a Dr. Claw-esque Saturday Morning Cartoon-Villain in my head.

Robespierre (shaking his fist out the window of the carriage bringing him out of France: "I'll get you next time, Napoleon, Therese and Brian!! NEXT TIIIIME!!!"

Well, hey, that trial as it turns out was a blessing in disguise.

So much story potential that everyone wasn't looking at, but Cyber saw it and just ran with it.

Although I shall say this, @Cyberphilosipher was the one who was mapping out the whole "We can fix this shit" after everyone got pissed off at SzechuanSauce and us for putting that bonus on Robes trial.

Also, I really hate how some people insulted me and Cyber back then for saying our writing was an absolute ass and how we pissed them off.

Plus those comments on the writing quality being ass really got to me and almost made me quit the quest altogether, even though I want to see it through.

Never in all my years on SV has that filled me with a more sense of quitting then in that moment.

Now, I laugh for all that Salt gave me the energy to do one thing that bad writers (in theory) Can never do.

Turn a mistake (honest or intentional) into something that both work, makes narrative sense... and continues to be an active part of the story that is meaningful and fits the themes.

Plus, being a god damn better writer than seven months ago also helps.

And all the haters just don't comment anymore.

Just to make this clear, my initial Frustration here was aimed at the Dice ALONE, not you or Cyber. I think you're doing a great Job.

I was one of the voters who was against giving Robespierre a trial (mostly because I suspected that his statline was suited towards being able to walk away from it a free man, which is what happened, and because it wasn't worth leaving a disruptive element in play just to prove ourselves better than the overthrown regime). Despite the whole controversy regarding that vote, I did not blame the QM's for the situation and I did stick around to participate in the quest. And I do not blame you or Cyber for the way the dice rolled regarding Robespierre. I will admit that I'm heavily speculating on the fact that this situation might have been avoided had we jailed or executed Robespierre after his first deposing (maybe someone could had rescued him from his fate and we would have still been stuck with an escaped Robespierre, albeit one that would like hadn't been able to come to power a second time, or maybe we would have gotten ourselves rid of him but someone else would have started internal problems for us... we can never know). That said, I believe a reformulation for my comment is warranted, which I will write here:

Yes, Robespierre escaping and his reputation being mixed instead of negative is annoying, but in the end, this situation is merely a setback. We will bide our time, prove to the people that we are better than Robespierre ever was, and, once the people start seeing us in a better light and start doubting the Consul, if possible, we will have another attempt at revealing the truth behind the actions of the so-called Hero of the Revolution...

Sigh, this is why I wanted to wait on the Elizabeth action.

Btw, is that an America action I see there? Do we get to ask for advise for the constitution?

Well if he's still alive, that means he can fuck up and lose that rep.

THat's why sometimes, it's better to be a Mrytar than alive. It's hard for you to continue fucking up.

Well, now you have to wait till Louis is back in France for that to happen.

Also... WHAT the FUCK LOUIS!

Why do you continue being so badass! Are you trying to become one of the Youngest Generals in Human History?

To be perfectly honest, with how some of the rolls have been so absurdly in our favor recently, I had a slight worry that the dice were cooked somehow. Seeing the rolls this turn changes my opinion totally. And of course it's because of Robespierre.

The only times I've seen such shitty rolls about a topic is when there's hidden maluses, holy shit that man is like a cockroach.

Very good narrative potential, I agree there, but damn. Consistently seems like the true danger to our regime is not other countries but from within. And with robes free....

The action with that noble is unfortunate, but not a big deal, she has no real power, and with the exceptional roll for empress stuff, we don't need to compromise with people like her for success. I am very excited for the upcoming empress duties update.

We don't cook the Rolls.

to say that we do is very... very... angering to me.

Don't take this the wrong way, but sometimes, I want to fudge the rolls so you constantly fail instead of succeed, because I want to use some more... Negative health traits.

But Cyber tells me that it's a bad idea so I agree with him.

Well that and Britian.

But Britian is... Oh God Britian, what the Fuck!

Oh lets just say that Nappy actually keeps his promise when viewing us as an equal.

He's very happy and very willing to make you one of the highest military authorities in France.

That depends.

On the Naval front?

The Diplomatic Front...

Or on the conquering Front?
Preferably, they got utterly clapped on all three. But I HIGHLY doubt we're that lucky, especially with the Roll for the Royal Navy we saw earlier.

My Prediction - and Hope - is that while succeeding militarily, they utterly flubbed on Diplomacy. I say I hope that because Diplomacy is arguably their best Weapon against us.

The Diplomatic Front...

Or on the conquering Front?

My prediction:

Fail on the Naval Front, with regards to the French Navy. Success on any other Naval endeavour (that said, if they only undertook one naval endeavour, then I'm predicting full success).

Mixed\Success on the Conquering Front.

Mixed\Fail on the Diplomatic Front (specific prediction: Russia leaves the Coalition after Britain fails their negociation rolls for convincing Tsar Alexander to send more troops and better generals to the Coalition cause)

I will never understand why people voted to give Robespierre a trial at all, and for one moron to dump all their omake bonuses to make it so.

Shit like this happens, and at least ScheczuanSauce got assblasted to hell and back for their stupidity.

On another Note, I'm glad Nappy gave Lannes command of the Army while we recover. I was hoping it would be him. He was one of the best Marshals in OTL and since he's willing and able to work with our Sub-Commanders, I have confidence in him.
