Alright...since I am feeling VERY spiteful against ol' Robby right now, I'm gonna write a whole bunch of Omakes and cash them in at juuust the right Moment to utterly ruin that Bastards day!

Its one of those things that seems so weird prior to the revolution, but it was one of those things that was really important for the world in terms of rights to citizens.

Since the church no longer had authority over someone's ability to marry and divorce.
Same with the Civil registry, before the revolution, the control of the church was near-total on birth and death registry...... it made the non-Catholique a non-being in the french administration

Ok, everyone, army splitting is an option. I say we take the bulk of our forces back to France and settle our accounts with Rob, and the rest go to... uhm. Russia, or Egypt. And honestly, I'd vote for Egypt.
I'd vote for Rome.

Of course, we give them Orders to NOT sack the City, if they can. Just..."convince" the Pope that excommunicating an entire Army over such a trivial Matter while in reach of said Army is a dumb thing to do.

Hell, the revolution was a great thing for religious minorities in general, Saint-André, a former Protestant minister, became one of the most important folks in the republic when he was chosen as a member of the Committee of Public Safety. Let's also not forget what it did for the Jews as well, gave them equal rights rather early.

In fact, Revolutionary and later Napoleonic France was noted for it's very lenient and fair treatment of Jews in a time of rampant Antisemitism in Europe.

So general concensous is to return home.

My thinking is we settle accounts at home then split our army. One part follows us into Russia while the other pays a "Friendly visit" to Rome. If possible, we should have Brian lead it if only for our own piece of mind.

Depending on how the situation looks by then, we can lead a two pronged attack into Egypt with Russian aid.

Speaking of Nappy: He's cross the Republic off the list due to this event.

So so much for saving the Republic with Nappy at the Helm.

And here we see Robespierre killing the idea of the French Republic in his quest to "save" the French Republic. Robe is really letting that grudge of his against Napoleon and, to a lesser extent, Brian for couping him control him instead of thinking rationally, by hastily trying to coup Napoleon instead of taking a slower route and getting people to warm up more to the idea of Robespierre being in charge again and painting Nappy as not being that good of a ruler. Yes, Robby may have the advantage against Nappy (and perhaps Robe will still be favored by the dice), but the second Therese and her army returns, he will realize that he's going to be in for a hard time, and that any victory he may earn is going to be hard fought at best.

Silverlinings are All nice and good, but the problem is... what the hell are we going to charge him with?

Louis still is technically the King of France everywhere else in Europe, and despite his military record with us...means all of jack shit.

I was talking about charging Robespierre, not Louis.

And to say nothing about Alexander Dumas, one of our very competent hands in this whole affair of us being... well, everything.

Yeah, but he also fell in line that slavery was a good thing camp, which is a big no-no here.

Here's hoping we can convince him otherwise.

I mean people have done things way worse, for less noble reasons, for less cause then mere hatred of his political enemies.

Looking at you Cromwell.

And Petain.
Yes very much this. Davout sounds like the perfect guy for the job to "convince" the Pope and making a new Republic.
Lets just also make sure Chamans is on his best behavior.

The French army was noted to be one of the more anti-clerical institutions in the country, hell, a whole lot of the officers were atheists or at least anti-religious. So this might provoke some of that anti-religious feelings to come boiling out of the surface.

Which is one of the things that makes Brian and Therese odd.

They are good Catholics.

He apparently also later wrote that Slavery was a Barbarity after Haiti was lost to France in OTL. Take that as you will. The Man was complex, complicated and certainly controversial. However, I still believe he's the best Option for France, as long as we can help him take on a better path.

Really hope our army knows we are gonna deal with what the Pope did to them. Show them that we care. Davout our man do whatever it takes to "convince" the Pope while making the army happy.

Again, constitutional clergy?
Once again, its a possibility.

Well, he proboly did that because there was no place else for such a barbaric slave system could continue.

After all, Haiti was the sugar plantation of the French for decades.

And since Haiti is currently doing pretty well while still being loyal to France, he may not see it as necessary to reinstate Slavery for it to remain profitable for France. Who knows? That Issue may not even come up.

No, I meant, what they think of the constitutional clergy? Did they approve of the idea of priests swearing an oath to the country instead of the pope?
Oh they see that as an absolute win.

Though they are still a little off-put by the concept of the Pope not being the man in charge, but I think they see it as a win, and like it.
