Maybe that's why he always wears his mask? Because he thinks like you. And he'll never take it off unless it's with someone he knows will judge him for him.

Like close friends, family, and maybe even...loved ones.

So is the real reason Naoto is a hero is because he keeps the mask on to let other people have a chance at capturing the affections of the women in his life?
 
I'm not trying to be a dick but considering the last few voters haven't shared their reasoning but why are you voting to help someone who intentionally caused this situation with an even greater insult considering it was to the daimyo, who prepared for it before hand with a champion, and when we've been specifically told by our superior to lay low? It just seems like the kind of thing the Scorpion clan in general cringes at, those who value their honor over practicality or the clans interest. I can't see it being in their interest to involve ourselves in someone else's battle so blatantly, and not with the write-in that is being bandwagoned.

To me it also gives the impression of being played by the Crane clan given their reputation. They start a fight, then when it happens they involve another clan who had nothing to do with it if Mariko accepts us as champion.

We are helping the crane to be more deeply involved with them to investigate them and solve the mystery and get the embassy.

Simple.

Well, if you read the rest of the Quest; you'd see that Matsu Ketsu's spymaster has engaged us to figure out what the deal is with the Crane delegation. There's major weirdness going down there.

The problem is that the Crane are almost as good at this whole sneakiness thing as we Scorpions, and finding out what's the deal with them is difficult. If we're going to make headway with that, we've got to get them to trust Naoto.

Putting his life on the line for Doji Mariko ought to win us some leverage, which we can then use to figure out what's up with the Crane delegation, and then we parlay that into a huge win for the Scorpion.

Betrayals work best when you're close to your target.

Admittedly if we don't have to I'd rather not as having more friends is (almost) never a bad thing, but I really want to find out what's going on with the Crane at the moment.

Well, not necessarily. We've stated that we're willing to stand as her champion. She might choose to have the Kakita stand for her instead (given that her life is on the line and he's an exceptionally talented duelist, not necessarily a bad idea). Bayushi Kimiko could decide that she's not okay with us risking our life on behalf of the Crane (something I'm sorry to not have worked into my write-in). Still, it's a possibility.
 
Can we try again next update? Because I'm pretty sure it'd win if we did it again, and that the 'less than half' was just because it wasn't an issue on the table when about half the votes were made.

Because I'm sure it can win, since after the reveal, it got 10/13ths of the votes.

Not sure what you are basing the pretty sure thing on. Unless Sirrocco embraces it, I doubt it will pass. The people who wanted to vote for it probably did. That said, we shall see what time will bring.

10/13ths of the people who voted after the reveal voted for it. Actually, I think Dangerous Beauty was undercounted. *goes to look*

Ten different people voted for it, but the tally only counts, like, six of them.

Vanguard_D, for instance, voted 'Sirroco and Dangerous Beauty' but only got counted for the former.

So did Broken25.

You know what, I'm going to go back by hand, because now I'm curious.

34 votes, 10 for Dangerous Beauty, 10/13 after the revelation that we can purchase Dangerous Beauty.

Heck, I could go for Dangerous Beauty. It's a roleplaying pick rather than an optimization pick. By the numbers, picking up another point in Temptation is strictly better, and "get Temptation to 2" hasn't shown up on anyone's buy list, but it is an interesting bit of characterization. Honestly, Naoto kind of feels like he *should* be a bishonen in some ways.

I am tempted not to go for it so we can pick up Kenjustu 4 over the next few days while we practice our asses off. Any thoughts?

Non-legal buy, as far as I can tell. Breaks the "don't invest in things that you have an obvious and immediate need for" rule... unless for whatever reason we don't wind up being in a duel after all, in which case it would be fine.

Also, I really wouldn't bother with kenjutsu 4. Kenjutsu 3 *might* be worthwhile, because it's only three points for an unkept die on hit and the mastery (an unkept die on damage). Kenjutsu 4 is 4 exp for an unkept die on hit. At that point, you're a lot better off on pretty much all fronts just saving up for Agility 4 at 12 - gets you a kept die rather than an unkept, and is useful for every other melee weapon there is, plus dancing and a few other things. Now, I personally don't think that we *should* be going for that (my logic on combat buys versus noncombat buys and shift in character focus from before) but if you're going to decide that what Naoto needs to do with his life is be a combat monster, you might as well do it right.

So what you are saying is we should go for Kenjutsu 3 to be reasonably adequate at the Bushi thing and then start stacking XP for Agility because not only does it make us good at combat, it also makes us better at being a courtier.
