Oh, that shouldn't be too hard. The only thing you really have to do is actually specify someone's orientation. I mean, unless you meant 'I should establish a whole Samurai system of gay love' in which case that'd be interesting. But yeah, it'd work on straight females and gay men. Which if you think about it, actually weakens it slightly at the same time it strengthens it. Because now gay women aren't affected by the +1k0. But that's realism for you.
If you really wanted to get a work out, you could rate all of your characters on the Kinsey Scale, from completely straight to completely gay. It's a six point scale, though I'm not sure how you'd use the middle numbers in terms of the temptation roll.

I do belive that is the wrong roll. We have Awarness 4 and Etiquette 3, giving us 7k4, not 6k3. We just got it (Awarness 4) last night. Or am I missing some reason why it is 6k3, or am I mistaken?

(Although on the other hand, even if we refuse, people will also wonder why the Scorpion stayed silent... Being a Scorpion is fun sometimes. Especially when you send people into epileptic trees.)
What we should be thinking about is 'what does our remaining silent, or volunteering, say about us to others' (and also stuff like 'what's the Lion's agenda here' and so on.)

Thinking about it, Ra said it would be a couple of days if we voluntear, so we could likely have time to pick up Kenjutsu 3, maybe even 4 if we need to. (we got 7XP saved). If the fight is not going to happen right now, and we are ready to spend 7XP geting our combat stats up to snuff, and we make it a kenjutsu duel, then I am ok with dueling her.

I can't see that personally. We have little reason to interfere when Mariko knew what she was doing when she insulted the Lions at the gift giving ceremony and that it would have consequences and prepared beforehand for it, and this Lion clearly knows what she is doing and it isn't an act of drunkenness or a moment of foolishness but a deliberate insult intended to to result in a duel. In short this is a Lion and Crane feud that they're both guilty parties too and that both engineered to happen. They are also both Samurai who feel that their clan has been insulted (which they have) and are more than capable of handling it themselves.
Frankly more bad things comes from us interfering as we can't defuse it given the insult, and to fight for one (when both have just cause) ties us to them even though both are in the fault. It also goes directly against what our superior said to do (lay low), and is entirely unnecessary when Mariko brought a champion for when this exact situation inevitably happened due to what she did.

If we are going to be buying advantages(and Disadvantages) I'd much rather pick up Strength of the Earth. For Bushi it is only 2XP.
Also, the disadvantage Black Sheep seems to fit in with what we have said of Soshi-es past.

Black Sheep is a serious disadvantage. Like, it outright exiles you from the Soshi family altogether, to the point where you are one step above a ronin. I was not reading Naoto's intended background as having been quite that bad - he was an undisciplined child without the temperment to be a magistrate, but that's not sufficient to be a Black Sheep.
Also, as before, advantages and disadvantages have to make sense within the context of the story. Naoto has nothing that would justify picking up Strength of the Earth.

I'm going to go against getting dangerous beauty. I like the whole warrior-scholar thing we're working towards here, and making Naoto incredibly beautiful kinda detracts from that image. Beauty is one of the first things people notice, and as such tends to be a defining feature for those that have it. I prefer him to be defined by his mind, rather than his physical appearance.
