In Thunder's Echo (Legend of the Five Rings Quest)

[X] Headbutt him in the face, bloodying his noise for third blood. Then bow politely.

Probably not a good idea. That's blunt, direct, un-Samurai and un-Scorpion both.

Similarly, killing him or severely injuring him at this point would be both against the spirit of the duel, and probably cause for censure. We are Scorpion, we are expected to misbehave, but we do not invite shame.

Also there's a Kakita Duelist lurking somewhere around here who we may end up facing; it would be an exceptionally bad idea to have violated the precepts of the duel and advance to the next round only to run into him. He might feel the need to make examples.

Don't make a cut on the face. Whilst it might feel viscerally satisfying leaving him with highly visible reminder of his failure just makes him more of an enemy, and we should endeavour not to leave enemies behind us (only corpses).

[X] Make a strike that draws the minimum amount of blood necessary concluding the duel with as much respect (for the court/process not the enemy) as possible.

We've embarrassed him before his lords twice and implied he had shamed his ancestors after he proved willing to deny our acceptance of his apology after a previous slight causing him to try and kill us before the entirety of the court. I don't think it's possible to make him more of an enemy at this point.

[X] Make a small cut on his main sword arm, then respectfully conclude the duel.

Sends a better message than the face. "I could have permanently maimed your fighting ability but I did not". They have different priorities after all, so play to that.

The only useful thing on him was the sword arm, not his face.

Matsui is also more pissed off at him. She undoubtedly knows of our spat in the training yard and gave this as a chance to redeem himself. The fact that he hasnt...well. We could kill him and part of me thinks that's what The daimyo wants seeing as we've kinda kicked his ass (also holy shit he got close on that roll), she may be thinking that he isn't worth it. Idk.

Let's put it this way. This leaves a chance to Ketsui to decide whether to ask his seppuku or not latter on. I wouldn't be surprised if she does.

Evil Scorpion Exact Words Mode Activate

[x] Ask him to concede loud enough to be overheard, as his injuries are grave and we do not wish to dishonor the tournament
-[x] If he refuses, attack him seriously and let the Fortunes sort it out. He told us that he was able to continue.

We're building an image as a reasonable warrior scholar, with respect for both battle and court. It's a worthy reputation to have, so I think this is the best course of action. It shows we respect the spirit of competition involved in court tournaments, but are not given to (outwardly, at least) petty vindictiveness. I figure we should be the soul of graciousness afterward, and if Matsu Ginwei wishes to continue being an ass then he'll be making more rope to hang himself with while we look good in the eyes of everyone else.

So basically, be our unique flavor of Scorpion.

People have thankfully walked away from those choices, but it's worth noting that headshots (and, presumably, neckshots) are actually illegal in this tournament. Wouldn't want to disqualify ourselves.

We're going to lose *so badly* in round 2. Ah, well.

Probably, but chances are that we will have Reflexes 3 by then.
